My mom has been a longtime fan of this bakery, so naturally, I've tried a lot of the breads and cakes from here. On the one hand, the bread is packaged neatly and is always fresh. On the other hand, there isn't a wide variety of options, as many of the breads are very similar and have only subtle flavor differences. I never get excited about any of the breads and will only eat them if I'm really hungry and one happens to be within arm's reach. That being said, if I had to pick favorites, I would choose the cream cheese bread ($1.65) over the rest of them. The cakes are not overly heavy or sweet, especially when compared to some typical American cakes. I just recently had the fruit topped cake for a friend's birthday - the "icing" is just loads of light whipped cream, and there's not much fruit on top. There were also some slices of cantaloupe in the fruit topping, which was really odd and did not taste good at all. Overall, it's a decent cake priced similarly to other bakeries (about $29 for a cake that serves 8), but a pretty boring cake as well. Lovely selection of Asian pastries and breads! Bread Corner is located on the right side of the building with the Popeyes. It's a small space, kinda like a wide hallway, with all the single-package pastries lined up on one wall, and the refrigerated pastries & cashier counter on the other. Everything is clearly labelled and sorted, and organized in a way so that you can grab a small basket, fill it up with the desired pastries, and shuffle your way to the front of the queue. With that said, it can get really crowded and cramped during the weekends, but not a big deal since the lines are fast and everyone takes their pastries to-go (there are only 2 tables right next to the door, since the space is so limited). You can find a various assortment of pastries - egg tarts, sweet custard, pineapple, pork sung, sausage/hot dog, etc. They also sell bubble tea and various other cakes near the counter (so pretty! *u*). Prices are reasonable - ~$1.50 per pastry. Love their dan-ta (egg tarts) - both the regular and the Portuguese. Crust is always flaky and buttery, and the filling is soft and creamy and delicious! One of the better Chinese bakeries, fresh tasting and offers bubble tea for a reasonable price. I like how they offer to sweeten your drink lightly. The pearls/bubble in the tea I've had here were slightly under cooked but I usually avoid bubbles and go for none or jellies since most shops don't take the time to cook them right. They also have cakes with the fresh cream/fruit or mocha cake style. This place gets crowded, so be prepared to wait in line for a little while - although they do move along pretty quickly. Mixed reviews for the pastries. The NY-style cheesecake is very good, and you all know how tough I am about cheesecake reviews! This one is dry (in a good way), crumbly, with a nice tang to it. Excellent flavor and consistency. Loved, loved, loved the coconut egg tarts. They were warm out of the oven when I got them and they were fantastic. Not too sweet, good coconut flavor, and just flat-out yummy. The so-called "light" (aka single-serve jiggly) cheesecake was the only let down for me. Wasn't jiggly at all, and was dry (in a bad way) rather than moist and fluffy. A certain other bakery just a stones-throw away does these a lot better. I really like that you can purchase multiple style of cake/baked goods here and will definitely be back to sample more. Your search for pineapple bun with custard ends here. I finally found a pineapple bun with competence here for a friend with discerning, Cantonese tastebuds. There is a layer of flaky coating on top too. The portuguese egg tart is made with flaky, phyllo-like layered dough and is not overly sweet. This is from a person who doesn't like sweets. Bought Lao Po Bing (came in a pack of two) for another friend and she said it was really well done. This is from someone who's been in Philly and NYC Chinatowns for buns. I also ordered the iced red tea (bing zhen hong cha) and it came with a lemon. It seemed like a mix of tea and sour plum or something--whatever it was, it really hit the spot on a hot day. They mixed it too with ice beforehand, similar to bubble tea, to chill it, and did NOT pack it with ice in the cup. I love their breads! They have a good variety too and most of them come individually wrapped so I can take one for breakfast and go. It is a cute quaint little shop right behind Popeyes so it can be easily overlooked but make a little reminder to stop by when you head to the store (it is also right by giant too). Bread Corner, I used to like you. And I did until today. I went for a few treats along with a free cheese tart for "checking in" via Yelp! The boss lady clicked on my phone for checking in, but didn't remove the cheese tart from my bill. It's my fault for not checking the receipt for being too trusting. And also on the back of my mind, I knew there is a free dessert waiting for me at Bread Corner, it expires today. Normally the other cashiers will read the screen and tell me if there are freebies for me. But this time maybe because it's the boss lady, she didn't mention anything. I didn't find out that my free dessert hasn't expired yet until a few hours later. Bread Corner, you really don't want to charge for things that you are willing to give for free. I tried a variety of breads here, (taro, custard cream, roast pork, milk powder, amongst a few others) plus the egg tarts at Bread Corner and was pretty happy with the quality and service. The breads were puffy fresh with great texture and fluffiness. The breads here were on the big side and there was a good amount of filling in each one I tried. The egg tarts here are done in the Portuguese style, hence why they have extra caramelization spots on top. Will totally be back! I prefer Bread Corner over Maria's and the bakery section in the new Chinese grocery store across the st. Hopefully, my future experiences will be just as positive. This is a Taiwanese bakery shop which reminds me of Japan due to similar style of baking method. Fresh breads daily with excellent choices. Very delicious breads no matter which one you chooses. The price is a little high, but the quality is excellent. My favorites is coconut bread which is very popular in this shop. The best time to come in is in the morning. My friends raved about Bread Corner so I made sure to stop by. Maybe coming in at 730pm wasn't the best time to stop by- most of the pastries I took interest in were all gone. Thankfully they still had their famous Portuguese egg tarts in stock so I made sure to get a handful of those. They are delicious, but I lost interest quick! And those things aren't even that big! I loved the crust more than anything. The filling was a bit bland? Regular egg tarts weren't that good. Maybe my expectations were too high. The mango mousse cake was yummy! They use actual mangoes as toppings for the cake. The mangoes weren't ripe and bit crunchy for my taste but the cake itself makes up for it. You can taste the mango well in the mousse but it doesn't overpower by all means! The service was alright. It could be the fact that she didn't speak English very well, but she seemed to glaze over or ignore questions I had about some of their pastries/cake. She kept saying something to me when i was paying but I didn't understand her so I asked her to repeat it couple times. In the end she just let out a big sigh, repeated my order and just moved on. My husband and I went in the other day and were very pleased with the measures they have taken to address the pandemic. Only two customers can be allowed in at any time. Masks are a must, of course. We felt very safe. It seems that the business is doing well. It was only 1pm when we were there and many bread rolls including some of my favorites were sold out already! The staff was on the phone getting an order and was grabbing so many bread rolls for the customer on the phone! I am really happy that folks are supporting the business. First time here today and the LAST time here ever! I hate to give bad ratings, but these are honest and I feel everyone should know. I was craving simple egg tarts and pineapple custard filled buns today and only went here because the nearby Asian Bakery Cafe was closed. Sadly, I found that all of their custard filled buns were sold out and there was only one egg custard tart behind the glass and it looked like it was burned around the edges so I did not get those either. I ended up leaving with three individually wrapped baggies of buns filled with red beans ($1.90 each), I figured those would be a safe bet since I did not want to leave empty handed. Boy was I wrong! First, I didn't know that there is an $8 minimum in order to use a credit card, so when the lady told me that, I told her "then I'm not going to get them" just as quickly, she promptly replied, "just go ahead." Right then and there, I should have known better, and left, but I didn't. I was very sorely disappointed with the red bean buns that I just bought as I have never had one that I didn't like. Here, the red bean paste inside was not fresh at all. It was very dried, crumbly and cakey and looked like dog food. It was not moist or sweet but then again, I was afraid to taste the paste part of the bun itself because it just looked so scary and brown. We ordered a mini lava fudge cake. It unfortunately had little jellies and fruits inside, which caused us to believe that the food was inedible. We won't be returning to this bakery for anything else other than bread. So if you like bread, come to this bakery. My mom regularly buys bread from here, so I've had a lot of their products over the years. The price is fair for the size, approx $2/each. The custard bun and (steamed) cup cake are my favorites, so I bought a few this past weekend to take with me for my trip back to New York. The custard bun was great as always, but the cup cake wasn't steamed all the way and had a disgusting smell and taste. Here's to hoping it won't give me an upset stomach! The best time to visit bread corner is in the morning when all the breads are freshly baked and being packaged. There are a few selected ones I really enjoyed - Ham and cheese, coconut flakes with cream, and sometimes the occasional egg tart. If you come later in the evening I wish you the best of luck cause sometimes it becomes rather sparse. Very disappointed with the bread quality in the past 6 months. I have purchased their bread from the store itself, also at H Mart in Gaithersburg. The bread quality is definitely not as good as it used to be. The coconut raisin breads have been over baked and too hard 90% of the time. The pineapple top buns were also too hard most of the time. The cream cheese bread did not taste as good. The bread portion still tasted fine, but the cream cheese tasted different, not as sweet and not as creamy. The red bean paste in the red bean bread was hit or miss. Sometimes the red bean paste was good. Other time, the red bean paste did not have the right consistency. The taro mochi bread remains to be my favorite. Their bubble tea was not very good for a few times I tried. If I have not had their bread until recently, I think I would have been fine with the current bread quality. However, as you can see in my previous review, I had thought their bread was comparable to the ones in Taiwan. This recent change in their bread quality is very disappointing. read more

First off let me just say I love this place and it is definitely my go to place for fresh Portuguese egg tarts! They're wonderfully baked with a little roast on top (which I love). The egg tarts are so soft and fluffy in the inside when eaten right away. Can't say anything about holding them for later since I always eat it right when I go home! I'm so glad they've opened back up! The service was wonderful as always. The girl on register was very patient with my friend and I as we were deciding on what to get. I came here because I saw they had Portuguese egg tarts. I bought a few and was pretty satisfied. I also bought a coconut tart, the pineapple bread with custard, and a green tea bubble tea. I enjoyed the bread a lot, I liked the coconut tart but it got a little dry at the end, and the green tea bubble tea was just alright. I like that it wasn't too sweet, but I didn't enjoy the milky tea as much as at jumbo jumbo. Next time I come for bread I'll try the regular milk tea. All in all a good find, and I'll be back. My friend loved their egg tarts and my prefer the Portuguese style ones, but both were delicious! Came here on a whim after jumbojumbo on the recommendation of my friend who had found this spot by accident before - and i was quite happy we came by! I was fiending for an egg tart and he brought me here - the egg tarts are fluffy, not too sweet and perfectly textured. On the other hand, the coconut tart was only average, but that's mostly because it's just so thick. The breads/buns are really light and airy - very fresh! I tried custard filling ones, coconut ones, pineapple custard buns and they were all very satisfying. Hands down my favourite Chinese-style bakery in Rockville. They also have bubble tea, pastries, egg tarts, swiss roll cakes, cookies and even some sandwiches. The bread is freshly made every day, and I don't think they resell yesterday's pastries at regular price but instead put them in the Buy One Free One pile. I could be wrong about this, but if I'm not, it is definitely a great business practice and scores big with me. I haven't had any trouble with the service at all. They always greet you from the counter when you come in, and are willing to help when you ask them for something specific. They usually switch from speaking Chinese to English when they realise that my Chinese is appalling. Perhaps because I took the effort to speak in Chinese first? I've even received advice from one of them on how to keep the breads fresh for longer. Oh and the thing that keeps me coming back is their ham and cheese buns. I've eaten them when they were literally fresh out of the oven and that just sent waves of happiness through my veins. So worth it going out my way for them. As for other items, go with the buns with fillings like red bean, lotus paste, sweet cream cheese, pork sung and hot dog. I guess the only downside is that certain items are a little pricey for just a bun/pastry and not a lot of toppings. I'm talking mainly about items like a bun with scallion and bits of bacon toppings. Then again, it's one of those buns that most Chinese bakeries have that I don't really care for. And I don't agree with some others that the egg tarts are that great. It's too heavy - good ones have light, fluffy custard and crispy pastry. The most mind blowingly delicious croissant is baked in Rockville, MD, at Bread Corner, an asian bakery, which is tucked away in the small shopping center next to the Giant. The egg tarts are also extremely delicious - they have the perfect crust. You can't go wrong with anything here, really. Check out the apple crisps, apple tarts, fruit tart, custard bun.
