They do also sell a variety of drinks, teas, and even greeting cards. Here is how everything was: The Chocolate mousse shooters with whipped cream (2 oz) was definitely decadent, but grainy tasting as well. It was tough to get over the texture of something so rich that was meant to be smooth and wasn't. I liked the Salted Caramel Cheesecake Shooters (2 oz) a bit more because of the different flavors (the cheesecake layer being my favorite). The Chocolate Covered Strawberries were nice, but the strawberries were tart (which is definitely tough to gauge). Lastly, the buttercream on the Mini Cupcake was overly sweet and the cupcake was not as moist as I would have anticipated. There is limited parking (outdoor) outside the shop, but it is free.

This review is long overdue but it's a must do!. Four years ago and a week prior to my birthday, I emailed Lala regarding a last minute order for a birthday cake. To my surprise, Lala's response was prompt, she was extremely accommodating and delightful to work with. My cake was absolutely GORGEOUS, DELICIOUS and I could not have been happier with my choice. Fast forward to a week ago. I was tasked with providing the cake for my aunt's 75th birthday celebration and again, only a week to get it done. I reached out to Lala and she came through for me in a major way!. Pick-up is this Saturday 12/9 and I have no doubt that my aunt's cake will be just as GORGEOUS and DELICIOUS as mine. Thank you Lala!!. You are simply the best!!!. read more

It was beautifully decorated - everything from the fresh flowers, to the macarons, the awesome cake topper, and of course the cake and frosting itself really speaks to Lala's incredible attention to detail, crafts(wo)manship, and delivering exactly what her clients want and more! I truly think that Cakes by Lala are one of the best cakes in the DMV. Not only did it look like perfection but the taste was divine. I was a little nervous about having an all gold cake but I think it was possibly the best cake I ever had. I ordered vanilla with buttercream. It had a lemony after taste from the gold (which I found really complimented that cake as a whole). read more

I try to support small businesses all the time and it's amazing to have peace of mind when a cafe like this offers everything gluten-free. However, it was a bit frustrating. I ordered the chickpea blondie which was very sandy. The egg, bacon, and cheese sandwich on a bagel which was the best thing of all the things I ordered. I ordered a cinnamon roll with regular frosting, and the cinnamon roll was still frozen. Since it was frosted, I couldn't heat it up at home and that was very disappointing. I would've hoped that they would've at minimum heated up the cinnamon roll before frosting while I was there. When I received the cheddar thyme biscuit, it was also part frozen. Once it defrosted, it was also quite sandy. I'm going to see if it tastes differently once I throw it in the oven. Overall I really appreciate the extensive menu, I just wished that some of the items would taste better, and that others weren't served frozen or half frozen. I did order my things to-go but had hoped to eat it in the car and couldn't because it was still so solid.

Additionally their whole shop is gluten free: it is truly a paradise for those with dietary restrictions. The shop has a very cozy environment. I could see someone easily getting lost in their book for hours at a table. What I loved the most was how many customers the owner greeted and knew personally! This bakery really gives off a vibe of being a beloved neighborhood gem. I ordered a chickpea scramble sandwich as well as a box of desserts. If you purchase 5 baked goods the 6th one is free! My chickpea scramble sandwich was delicious! I could not believe there were actually whole chickpeas in the scramble! I was expecting it to be just chickpea flour and it was clear a lot of work went into the scramble. The scramble was seasoned with curry powder which was a unique taste for a breakfast sandwich. The gluten free bread did fall apart, however, I was given reusable silverware with my meal that helped pick the pieces up. The only thing that would have made this sandwich better would be some sauce. It was a little dry for my preference and some hot sauce or vegan aioli would have made it perfect. I took home hamantaschen, a cinnamon roll, and a chickpea blondie. I loved all my treats! The hamantaschen taste just like the cookies I enjoyed as a kid. You would never know they are gluten free. The chickpea blondie reminded me of a pancake with a maple flavor coming through. I thought this treat was the perfect level of sweetness and was marked as sugar-free. The cinnamon roll is the best cinnamon roll I have ever enjoyed in Maryland! It warmed up perfectly at home and the flavors were decadent instead of sickly sugary. I should have purchased way more of them! I am so happy I finally visited this local bakery. I am certain I will become a regular as I attempt to try all of their vegan options.
