Writing a late review a year later... but Creative Cakes made an absolutely delicious and stunning custom barbie-doll cake for a special birthday. Everyone loved it so much that a year later people are still talking about it and asking for references to the bakery! For even extra bonus points, they were incredibly responsive and accommodating and went the extra mile (literally) to deliver the cake to our location at the time we needed (an unusually early time in the day). Would absolutely order from Creative cakes again!! read more

Celebrated my husband's 90th birthday at a private party this past Saturday. The venue was FOGO de CHAO in No. Bethesda, MD. Every detail was tended to perfectly. And then there was the Cake! I had worked with Creative Cakes previously and they have never disappointed. This time, it was extra, extra, extraordinary! My husband spent his career with NASA...a rocket science kinda guy. I worked with Carmen on the design and she was as extraordinary as the cake itself. She listened and understood what i wanted and then the spectacular cake was created. One look at the attached photo and you will, no doubt agree. Honestly, people were asking me if the rocket would actually , "BLAST OFF." LOL. Thank you creatives cakes. This is now the 4TH amazing cake you have created for various events in my life and, with some luck, there will at least be one more...or more? One thing is certain, for me and all of my family and friends who have experienced the creativity and deliciousness of your cakes, YOU RULE!!! P.S. a big thank you to Randy (the owner) for her time working with me. Much appreciated. read more

We were all delighted with the cake Creative Cakes made for my granddaughter's Bat Mitzvah party. It was delicious, and the design was wonderful. I had spoken with people from a few different cake companies about what they could do for the theme of an enchanted fairy garden. They wanted to rely on photos from me of what I had in mind. Randy from Creative Cakes looked at photos I had found on the web and proceded to tell me that most of the decorations were plastic add-ons which her company would not use. Then she told me the design elements she could incorporate, all edible. As I listened to her ideas, I felt comfortable that if I gave her free rein, shed produce the design I wanted, and she did. The enchanted fairy garden design was lovely, and the cake was delicious! read more

I was looking for a cake for an executive birthday on short notice. I had a co-worker recommend Creative Cakes, so I looked them up and so glad I used them. I did a classic chocolate birthday cake which delivered everything you'd hope for in a celebratory dessert. The cake was rich and moist with a deep cocoa flavor that isn't overly sweet. I did vanilla butter cream frosting that gave it the classic elegant look I was hoping for. I served it at a dinner which featured other desserts, but the cake is what they ate the most which was a sure sign the cake was a hit! I will absolutely use Creative Cakes again. read more

I've been getting my cakes here for over 3 years each time has been a wonderful and tasty experience.

I love Creative Cakes!!! For years now, they have been the go-to cake place for our family. Their professionalism is always top-notch; Randi and her team really want to make sure that they get your cake just right! The cakes always taste fantastic, and I'm always impressed by their artistry and creativity. I'm attaching a variety of cakes they've done for our family over the years. Our cakes have always been ready on time, and Creative Cakes has been great at working with us when deliveries are needed. Three of my favorite cakes from them have probably been a Hungry Caterpillar-themed cake, a Mario Kart cake, and a cake showing all of my daughter's favorite stuffed animals. We look forward to continuing to work with them in the years to come! read more

This is a fantastic shop. They are one of the few that give you the option of using imported Swiss icing. Her cakes are gorgeous. She made me a fantastic cake of a Baltimore Oriole bird pooping on the Yankee logo. Her team can create anything you can imagine. read more

This cakeshop turned out to be a first-class surprise in our own neighborhood, one I discovered in 2024 after 9 years of searching. Beautiful confections that taste even better than they look. I have not found white/yellow cake--birthday cake, celebration cakes that match this quality--in the whole of the DMV, and I may be able to safely extend that claim through the mid-Atlantic. The buttercream is the old-fashioned, less slippery type--the frosting roses and ornate decorations of my childhood in New York City. The almond cake is exquisite (vanilla and strawberry the two others we have sampled, also very good). This shop competes with those beloved New England bakeries of the second half of the twentieth century--now impossibly rare--relying on skills and art carried over from European beginnings. These traditions are all but lost as we reach the second quarter of the 21st century. Every cake we have ordered from Creative Cakes for landmark birthdays, a memorial meal, and Bloomsday (the anniversary of the publication of James Joyce's great novel Ulysses) , exceeded expectations. One cake was "Lambeth Style" (photo of the turquoise cake with lavender festoons and rosettes) --these cakes were popular in the Victorian era, and astonishingly, Creative Cakes is able to recreate them! Although a portion of these cakes may safely be frozen for later consumption, we never manage to save more than a slice or two, and that preserving often involves a fierce battle of wills. I have heard of people who buy a tub of the frosting from Creative Cakes to cheer themselves up when they are blue--I am sure that would offer comfort in the form of a massive sugar rush--but I am too much a fan of the design process with the bakers themselves--of matching the image in one's mind with the cake these ladies can make for you. I recommend starting out with a trial by cupcake (the cupcakes are only $4 each, mini-versions of the full-size cakes), and calling on this bakery for special occasions. In our experience it has been worth paying that little bit extra for customizing as the bakers will take extreme care in meeting your tastes, vision, and aesthetic. If you live in Silver Spring, with this bakery on your back doorstep, you are seriously lucky!!! read more

ABSOLUTELY PERFECT CAKE DESIGN and TASTE! I compared several different bakeries and received several varying quotes for a custom designed Chanel themed cake for my daughter's birthday. This shop was one of the bakery finalists based on convo and price, so we visited Creative Cakes in person to confirm the design details and perform a cake tasting. My 12 turning 13yr old daughter was pleased with the sample cake designs in the shop and loved the taste of the cookies and cream, vanilla with buttercream, and red velvet tastings we were provided. We made the decision to go with their bakery and they did not disappoint. I was floored and completely impressed with the design, attention to detail, and the taste of the cake. They designed it exactly as we described and envisioned it, and I HIGHLY RECOMMEND this shop for custom cake designs. They will not disappoint! Get your next bday cake from there immediately. When I began to look a bakery to create a special design for my son's groom cake, I scoured companies around DC. Then, I found Creative Cakes, and began a dialogue with Lauren who, after an initial conversation, took my concept and ran with it. Entitled "Harry's Game of Life," Lauren and Creative Cakes detailed my son's life in the form of a colorful board game that featured a center chocolate mold of his cat wearing his alma mater's sweatshirt. I did not see the cake until it was delivered to the welcome party venue, but when every member of the kitchen staff has gathered around just to marvel at a cake, you know it is a winner. Not only was it exquisitely decorated, it was delicious. My son is 'basic' in his taste so it was simply "plain cake and plain icing," but it was melt-in-your-mouth-get-a-second-slice-good! Having said all that, the most important element of the cake was the surprise and delight that my son and his soon-to-be-wife had when it was revealed. They were so excited, as were all our guests who took many, many photos. Creative Cakes was a dream to work with and their responsiveness was impressive. I could not be happier with the cake they created for our most special evening. read more

The cakes were truly magnificent. they were the talk of the party and worth every cent !

Partnering with the Creative Cakes team was a wonderful experience! From my first inquiry asking if they were able to *create* a strawberry looking cake for a particular 3 year old, the team was informative, knowledgeable and kind. Placing the order was easy, they created exactly what we wanted and to top it all off - it was DELICIOUS. This strawberry cake was our first celebration cake from Creative Cakes but certainly not our last (though it may not be a strawberry next time!) read more

One of the worst cakes I've had in a while. I got a coconut cake and the cake tasted nothing like what I expected. It tasted no different than a regular cake made at Safeway. The cake went stale quickly too (in less than 2 weeks). I had high expectations and was seriously disappointed. Giving 3 stars for the decor only. read more

Creatives Cakes is by far the best custom bakery in the DC, Maryland, and Virginia area. Of all the ones I've visited they have been the nicest and most helpful. From the start of the conversation to trying to help me design a cake...to the end when I go to pick up the cake itself by far is the best experience I've ever had. Everyone there is so helpful and so opinionated. They really give each client a personal touch to make sure you get exactly what you want. I ordered 3 cakes from them, and each cake has been better than the last. I highly recommend them for your next occasion. read more
