My daughter birthday was fantastic only because cakes in style made her the most amazing cake. Whatever I say maybe not enough but the owners are so friendly and helpful, professional and when they recommend something trust their taste and expertise. The work they have done on the cake was phenomenal, my daughter and all the attendees of her birthday were amazed by its design and attention to details as well as the delicious taste. Cakes in style you rock I wish you more success and will definitely be ordering more and more cakes.

Wow! Love this place!! I sent a photo of the cake I wanted for my 5year old boy and they replicated it perfectly! Also tasted great!! Thank you, I will def order my next cake from here!

They are AMAZING! Cute little shop off of 355 in Rockville. I wish I knew about them sooner. Ordering cake was done mostly through email and they were so responsive!! Lucia and Robert came through on creating what my kids wanted but EVEN BETTER than what I ever imagined. You can tell these folks not only have the skill set but they love what they do.

Cakes in Styles make the the most beautiful cake pops. Absolutely order these in advance because they are delicious and ever so beautiful. Lucia and Rob are the fabulous owners of Cakes In Style. Delicious, stylish and 100% fabulous.

Absolutely awesome! In 2010 I decided to have a "Double Sweet Sixteen" birthday party since I was unable to travel out of town for my yearly birthday trip. I found Cakes in Style by chance and headed over there with 3 other folks to do a cake tasting and see what all the hoopla was about when it comes to custom cakes. I met with Lucia who gave us at least 4 different flavors to sample then she sat and drew out the design and shoe I wanted for my cake. The cake was delivered BEFORE I even arrived to my party (and I'm usually a pretty timely person) and when I finally cut into it, the cake tasted exactly like my favorite treat - HOSTESS ORANGE CUPCAKES (may Hostess rest in peace...). Even the fondant was pretty tasty and I usually dislike fondant. I liked Lucia's work so much that my fiancee and I are contemplating checking her out again for our wedding cake/mini cakes. All in all very pleasant experience and I hope she can make this cake as, or even MORE, memorable as the last one.

I contacted Cakes in Style as I saw they on their gallery, some Korean first birthday (dol) cakes. I ordered a cake topper and at the party, it was a hit! (see pictures) and the details to the toppers was excellent. The cupcakes were very good and not too sweet. I recommend this place for anyone looking to get custom cakes.

Ordered a cake and cake pops for my daughters 5th birthday, unicorn theme, and I couldn't of chosen a better place, the cake was beautiful and the cake pops were even tastier than the cake!

Amazing. We needed Easter-themed cupcakes for our son's first birthday party. They nailed my vision. Sophisticated, cute and oh so yummy. Highly recommend them. Thank you!!!

Had an amazing experience working with Lucia and Rob! They were very attentive and responsive for the cake I surprised my boyfriend with for his marathon. Cake tasted great, I didn't love the fondant flavor as it tasted like bubble gum which was a funny combination with a carrot cake, but I would still order it again!

I called a week before my event and they were able to accept my order. Cake looked just like the photo I sent and tasted delicious! Buttercream is rich and cake isn't overly sweet.

Look how adorable those elephants are for a baby boy shower!

Rob and Lucia did an awesome job! Not only were these cupcakes the cutest things ever and matched our Baby shower theme exactly, they were sooooo yummy! We really appreciate all the hard work and love put into them and definitely recommend Cakes in Style for any event.

Lucia is an amazing pâtissière!! She can literally create any cake or sweet your creative mind desires. She is precise and can put together the most amazing flavours. I would absolutely recommend Cakes in Style over anyone in the DC area.

We requested that Lucia add the monkey and the outfit on the cake boy was an exact match to what our son was wearing. So happy!!!!
    Griffin K.

My fiancé and I worked with Lucia for our son's Doljanchi (Korean first birthday). From the start, she was awesome. We showed her a picture of what we wanted and she asked all the right questions. We changed the animal on top and the colors. She took the time to match the outfit on the cake boy to the traditional Korean outfit our son was wearing... to a "T!" When I saw the cake, I almost cried. It was perfect... and delicious! You will be so pleased that you used Cakes in Style!

There was every kind of croissant you can imagine. I bought my favorite almond croissant. There were fruit and cream filled pastries. I bought a fruit and cream filled pastry too. There were a lot of chocolate delicacies. I am going to buy some on my next trip. The ambiance is lovely. There are tables and chairs to sit and enjoy your sweets. There are cases filled with pastries. Service was great. I was waited on right away and they packed my box in a bag with a handle, to make it easier to carry. Au revoir, for now! There's seating inside, but the seating area is pretty small and some people were at tables looking like they weren't going anywhere anytime soon. It was a nice morning, so we were able to grab an outside picnic table. The service was decent. One disappointment was when the counter person asked me if I wanted room for cream in my coffee, I said yes and asked if they had nondairy products. She said they had almond and soy. I asked for soy and she returned with my drink. When I went to pay, I saw they charged 79 cents for almond, soy and oatmilk. Ok. Here's the thing. I assume it's on the board and I should have looked, but she also could have mentioned it. Also, charging for these items when they put a little in your coffee leaves me feeling like I'm being abused for not being a dairy person. I get it - it's a pastry shop and the items are buttery and rich from cream. But please - 79 cents for a little soy milk? (I know this isn't uncommon for coffee shops, but it doesn't make it right.). And the coffee ($4.25) was decent - not great. I expected better (richer, more flavorful) coffee from a nice pastry shop like this. Anyway, it's a nice neighborhood place and there's a lot of treats there.

I especially liked the sandwich bread, it reminded me of the breakfast sandwiches I would get in Taiwan. Last Sunday, I wanted to happily buy a cake for Mother's Day but after I already paid as price tag was shown. The owner suddenly came over and said there was an extra charge because it was a "Mother's Day Special" . Apparently "Special" means rising the price by surprising their customers. Honestly, if there's a holiday surcharge, I would truly understand! But it should be clearly stated before payment -- not after. Very disappointing experience. I only bought it because my mom loves mango cake, but I definitely won't be coming back again I am pretty certain that you're not allowed to raise the price on an item already paid for. It's not the money. It's the principle. This is unethical.

3.5 stars for me. Items are decent but not amazing…read more We ordered the fruit sponge cake for a party and stopped by in the morning to pick out some additional pastries. We came around 9am and they had a decent selection of buns. We got a mix of baked pork buns, pineapple buns, custard buns, and the lotus wrapped sticky rice. Items were individually wrapped. Egg tarts weren't ready yet. I was pleasantly surprised to find the white sugar rice cake. At approximately $3-$6 per item (give or take), it came to ~$50. The pork bun was dry and skimpy on filling. Since we came right at opening, I'm not sure if it was yesterday's pastries since some shelves were still empty. The white sugar rice cake was good, but not the best I've had. I don't come across this dessert as often as I like, so finding it at Asian Bakery Cafe was a treat. They also have moon cakes, roll cakes, and a small freezer for take-home dim sum. The Asian sponge fruit cake, which was our primary reason for stopping by, was adequate. Again, it wasn't the worst I've had, but it also wasn't the best I've had. The sponge cake was light and not too sweet (an Asian dessert standard), but it wasn't life-changing or anything to write home about. The cake had nice presentation from the packaging of the box (tied with a ribbon bow) to the icing and fruit on top. Fruit toppings included cantaloupe, honeydew, strawberries, kiwi, and peach. Fruit distribution in the filling was uneven and sparse. The cake met our needs but I wouldn't necessarily choose this bakery over another. I do want to highlight their service. When we picked up the cake, the worker kindly carried the cake for us and put it in our car. Five stars for service!

They do also sell a variety of drinks, teas, and even greeting cards. Here is how everything was: The Chocolate mousse shooters with whipped cream (2 oz) was definitely decadent, but grainy tasting as well. It was tough to get over the texture of something so rich that was meant to be smooth and wasn't. I liked the Salted Caramel Cheesecake Shooters (2 oz) a bit more because of the different flavors (the cheesecake layer being my favorite). The Chocolate Covered Strawberries were nice, but the strawberries were tart (which is definitely tough to gauge). Lastly, the buttercream on the Mini Cupcake was overly sweet and the cupcake was not as moist as I would have anticipated. There is limited parking (outdoor) outside the shop, but it is free.

The new owner was a good dude. He provided great service, was very friendly & personable, and has lots of goals & innovations that he wants to accomplish for the business. I had a couple of items I wanted to try, but some of them weren't available. On my first trip, I got the carrot cupcake $3.95 and the Oreo cupcake $3.95. On my second trip, I came back to get my birthday gift they gave me which was $10 store credit, and got both of the cupcakes and a cinnamon crunch scone. Also, the near $4 price tag for the size of these cupcakes isn't something I'm too fond of, but oh well. - The carrot cake cupcake was good: the icing and cake complemented each other very well. - The Oreo cupcake was alright, but I wasn't impressed with it. - The cinnamon crunch scone was an easy miss for me, didn't do anything for my taste buds. Overall, it's a decent spot with a relatively limited amount of pastries but I fully expect in the coming months for the business to take a huge shift and really blossom.
