Bread corner is a fantastic place, but oops sorry, the cashier has a terrible attitude with her customers. While I was going to pay for my bread. It was my fault for not knowing there was a customer in front of me. I did say sorry but her attitude was rolling her eyes and everything. She grabbed the plate and placed it down heavily! Wow I was very surprised by her attitude. Her attitude was unacceptable. After I paid for my bread, I didn't tip her because of her terrible behavior, there was someone sitting there trying having a conversation with her while taking my money. As I walked out, her friend laughed, and of course her eyes were rolling. What kind of service is that? I love this place! The bread and pastries have always been fresh when I visited, even had to wait a few times for them to come out of the oven. I don't mind but it was late morning and most bakeries are done baking by then. Kudos on the huge selection and I haven't eaten anything I didn't like. Its buy 5 get 1 free during the week:). There are still a few things I want to try which I haven't been able to get due to its popularity. I was told they could save items if its called in ahead of time. If I'm in Rockville, there's two places I always stop at. This would be one of them. As far as I've experienced), Bread Corner is by and far the BEST place to go for Chinese/Taiwanese bakery items since Maxim in Takoma Park tragically became LA Mart. It doesn't quite fill the void (Hong Kong style bakeries needed), but I think it's the best we've got. Among my favorite items to get here are the croissants (plain, seaweed & cheese, chocolate), pineapple bun with custard, custard bun, and assorted ones with pork "floss" (sung). Sweeter buns seem to be their strength and the croissants are definitely the best thing they bake. On their best days, BC's croissants are some of the best I've had stateside. Of the (limited) experience I've had with their fancier counter fare and drinks, everything I've tried has been pretty solid. Tasty boba drinks, a respectable iced coffee, and some fancier bakery items ordered have all gone over well. They are on the pricey side though, so don't go too crazy with those tongs. read more

I've heard so many good things about this bakery so I was so excited when I got a chance to stop by! Their pineapple buns are THE BEST. I prefer the kind that comes with nothing inside, but you can also get buns stuffed with red bean paste or coconut cream. All of them have that glossy, crunchy exterior and soft interior that I've grown to know and love. Pineapple buns aside, I also especially recommend their paper-lined sponge cakes. They've got just the right sponge-y texture and are not too sweet. Perfect for breakfast or snacking. They're super flaky and best when warm and fresh. I had one today that was in the fridge for a while and it was still quite scrumptious! I think this bakery is the place where most Taiwanese families get their breads, especially the pineapple bread ("bolo bao"). They have a huge variety of breads, but you really need to try different breads to know which ones you like. On the plus side, their quality is consistently good. Know that if you come to the bakery in the evening, most of the breads will be sold out..so come early and get them fresh! A random thing about this place: they serve bubble tea, and you can specify sweetness and ice. I actually prefer their bubble tea to the other places in the area. The breads are delicious. The bread has a nice type of sticky consistency I had the mochi bread and I really enjoyed it. I also bought green tea cookies and they were okay nothing special I did like the consistency of the cookies though. I also ordered a portugués egg custard and that was pretty good. I really like the contrast of textures between the egg custard and the crust around it. The coffee with black tea was very good. The pastries and breads are excellent. Very clean shop. Friendly. I ordered a birthday cake for my boyfriend and it was amazing! It was beautiful, for starters. But the inside was delicious! The cake was fluffy and tasty, and the filling was so good. The presentation was just as amazing. The box was sturdy and had a handle. I didn't realize it until I got home, but they also had included a cake cutter/lifter (one of those triangle-shaped utensiles), and candles!! Who does that?! I was so thrilled! Bought a fruit cake, and ate the next day. The fruit inside the cake had very strong alcohol taste. My son thought the fruit was spoiled. When I took a close look at fruit on the top of cake. Strong producer of the typical range of Chinese baked goods. The one thing that makes them stand out for me is the availability of pineapple cakes/feng li shu. I've never seen these at a bakery outside of Taiwan and they taste too fresh to be shipped over from there, so I have the guess that they're actually making them in the store. The cakes are individually wrapped in a basket and relatively pricey at $1.50 or so each, but are very good. Only downside is the store is very small and only has a few places to sit. read more

I actually got introduced to Bread Corner by my mom, who stops by every now and then to buy their hot dogs for my sister's school lunches. Bread Corner is an asian-style bakery, which means their breads are more sugary and pastry-like than sliced bread or table bread you would find in Giant or Safeway. Please keep this in mind if you don't have a sweet tooth, and avoid the rounder buns with egg wash glazes. That said, their "Pineapple" style bread is probably my favorite breakfast pastry. It keeps for a couple of days and tastes great with coffee. Because the breads are baked fresh and in-house they might not be as stale as bakeries that ship their selection in from New York. Bread Corner has a table out front with day-old bread if you don't mind those and want to save a few bucks. I haven't tried them out but might look at them before checkout. read more

This is a Chinese pastry store which means a lot of meat fillings in their pastries. They have a good selection of pastries but definitely nothing much if you're into creme and sweeter fillings. I bought their cake roll once and it was so dry, I had to throw it out. Their bubble tea is Okay. Since this is in Rockville, because rockville has so many great bubble tea places that it's definitely not worth getting their bubble tea here except their coffee flavored bubble tea, that one was pretty good. I've had their taro and their mango, both of them were super sweet and sugary. My biggest complaint is that they don't restock their pastries consistently. There was a time I came in one afternoon, and everything was pretty much cleared out. Customer service is also sub par- the older ladies are rude to non Chinese asians but the younger workers are friendly and welcoming to everyone. read more

I am rarely impressed by fancy asian bakeries. Most of them just dont hold up the quality of their baked goods. My coworker gave me a taro tart today for dessert she bought from Bread Corner. I just loved the perfect execution of the pastry it was flakey and soft with an in-house made taro filling that was not overly sweet like those terrible bakeries that substituted ingredient with sugar. It was the perfect pastry I thought I was at a dim sum restaurant. I was so impressed I decided to drop by the store to get some pastries for a dinner party. There were various types of fillings: red bean paste, green bean paste, lotus paste and pineapple paste with a duck egg yolk stuffed in the fluffy pastry. There were also all kinds of buns stuffed with cheeses, ham or peanut cream. The egg tarts were terrific too! On the rack by the kitchen were cheese cakes freshly out of the oven. It was so awesome!! My mom calls me while I'm at Bread Corner, to ask where I was, because she was at Mama Wok's (next door) and could totally hear me, but she couldn't find me. We were meeting my parents next door at Mama Wok's, but surprisingly, for once, we arrived well before my parents did. As we had dinner plans with friends the next day, I thought that it would be a great idea to head over to Bread Corner to pick up some desserts. While the selection of Asian baked goods did look quite mouth watering, it was a little aggravating that not all the buns and cakes and rolls were labeled correctly. So we would pick up something that we *thought* was a taro bun, but it looked suspiciously like a pineapple bun. Hmmm. We decided to bypass the buns and go for the cute little cakes and perhaps a cake roll. We stand by the counter and wait. And wait. And wait. On the other side of the counter, were 4 employees, folding boxes and gossiping away. As far as I can tell, a guy dumped one of the girls a few weeks ago, but called her to see if she wanted to get coffee the other day. What could this mean?! Does he want to get back together with her? Or no, he did say that he was hoping that they could remain friends and this is just an olive branch. But perhaps he realized that he made a mistake and wants her back? But if that was the case, he should have made it dinner and sent flowers too. Or perhaps he just misses her? After all, he will never find anyone who is as caring and supportive as she. But wait, she shouldn't go back to him, because if he can break her heart once, he can do it again. Unless he's grown up in the past few weeks. But no, guys like him never grow up. She could do *SO* much better. While I admit this was quite riveting, we stood there for quite a while without any of the 4 ladies even looking our way. Which is why I had to raise my voice - to get their attention...and of course, my parents decide to show up at Mama Wok's at that moment...which is why my mother could totally hear my voice, yet couldn't find me. So actually, I blame this on Bread Corner. As to the cakes themselves - they were a little disappointing. The strawberry napoleon-esque cake was remarkably free of any strawberry flavors...and the coffee cake roll was rather bland. Eh. Perhaps I will try their buns next, as this is the "Bread Corner", and not the "Cake Corner", but only if I just happen to be meeting my parents at Mama Wok's. And only if I get there early. The red bean mochi bun was rather bland tasting, and the two different buns I tried both with pork shred stuffing (I have no idea what its proper name is in English) had not only an overwhelmingly amount of the pork shreds stuffed to one corner, but tasted unusually too sweet. It's a very small establishment in a shopping center on the side of Giant with plenty of parking. I forgot to take pictures but I had pineapple bun with egg yolk Portuguese tart Egg tart Coconut tart Overall everything is pretty good. I just find it somewhat not very sanitized because the trays with not clean and the tongs were hanging right next to the entrance with no covers for everyone and anyone use and then just put it right back. A while ago, I would have given this place 5 stars but I went recently and I ate half my bread before I got to a small pocket of filling. This is really a rating for 3.5 stars. There was probably a bite or two of filling in there and then back to bread. The price is the same if not a little higher but it looks like they're skimping on the filling now. It used to be filled with a good amount of filling...one bite in and you were in the filling which I loved. Good balance between good bread and good filling... now it's just good bread and minimal filling. I used to recommend this place to friend but now I'm really hesitant. I love my filings but if you're getting bread it's probably more worth it to get the no filling ones because you won't get that much more. Same goes for their big cakes. I bought one for a birthday and then felt bad because the fruit layering was seriously lacking fruit. The cake part was really light and fluffy but hello...cake is also about its frosting (delicious and not too heavy) and fillings (seriously lacking). Also, one of the few places that will let you change the sweetness of bubble tea. I love bubble tea but I often find it too sweet. In MoCo, this is the only place I know of that will let you alter the sweetness, so I always order it less sweet. I like ordering the peach black tea or passion fruit!
