I love bread and butter, whenever I wake up early enough I take the trek out of town just to sit in the little area with the couches and crochet with my coffee which is always always always exceptional, the last time it was so good I had to go back and tell the barista that she made my day. It's always nice and quiet which is nice but it's not going to be out of place if you came in for a date. Stopped in here to get a small lunch and we were so happy we did! The staff here was super nice and friendly and the food was great! Me and my boyfriend boy got the green thumb sandwich which has hummus, spinach and carrots on a warm Asiago bagel and it was so delicious! Love Bread & Butter! This was my favorite coffee shop for a few years until I moved out of the country. When I moved back to the area and visited, I still loved it but did have a few negative things to say. The good for sure outweighs the bad, but I do wish they would go back to how the shop originally was. Their coffee is amazing (I even had my family ship some to Europe). I love their iced white chocolate lattes. They have tons of food options. You can go there for lunch (I recommend their pimento cheese croissants) or just to grab a sweet treat (their macarons are as good as the ones I'd buy in France tbh). They also have local beers, wines, and more, including vampire diary-themed "blood bags." I actually haven't tried the blood bags (I think it is hibiscus teas) but if you are a fan of TVD, it definitely adds to the Covington aka "Mystic Falls" experience. My negative comments would only be that they are doing too much. They have so much to offer but sometimes it is overwhelming. They have shelves where you can purchase things, but I think there are too many. It is starting to crowd the space. Selling coffee, mugs, or even bakery-related items or local jams and syrups makes sense, but selling baby clothes and home decor is over the top in my opinion. When they first opened, they did not have all of that and I liked it a lot better. It was less crowded and they had more seating. I also think that the employees were much nicer in the beginning. I have had a few poorly pulled shots that tasted very bitter in my lattes lately. If I tell them, they do make it right, but I feel like the service and quality of the drinks were better before. 10/10 times my drink was made right when they first opened. Now I would say it is more like 8/10 times and the staff is not the most friendly. Overall, I still really love their coffee, I just usually spend less time in the store. They have opened a drive-through-only location down the street and I have been going there. So far, I have had only perfectly made drinks there and the drive-through is really convenient. Still a huge fan, but I am hoping they stop trying to do too much and focus on the coffee and atmosphere again. I think the staff is less friendly because they seem undertrained and overwhelmed. If it is your first visit, I still think you'd be very pleased, but as someone that has been going since opening, it was sad to see a change. I still wouldn't give them any less than 5 stars though! read more

If I lived here I would be at this place all the time! It's so cute! There are a few sitting areas inside and out and an area that can be used as a work space. They have baked goods, coffee, beer, wine and a small selection of other goods. The staff was friendly and the barista making my coffee even wrote happy birthday on it when she found out it was my birthday! Everything looked fresh and delicious! Conveniently located right on the square in Covington. They like a lot of places in Covington have some Vampire Diaries related themed items which as a fan of the show I thought was cute and cool. Loved this place! Was passing through Covington on my way from TX to NC. Loved the hotel and town so extended another day so my toddler could have a decompression day in a nice town. Stopped in here on a whim and was very impressed. The staff is adorably sweet, has a great ambience, great seating options and good food. What a charming place! I was in the area while working and did a quick yelp search for breakfast. They're located in charming downtown Covington amongst other cute shops. They had a large selection of baked goods, desserts and even sandwiches. I ended up ordering a mini blueberry cheesecake and a spinach pastry. While the cheesecake was good, the spinach pasty was excellent! The flavors of cheese and spinach were well balanced and didn't overpower the light, flaky pastry shell. It was so delicious! There's toaster ovens and microwaves to warm your goodies up if you prefer. I'm not a coffee drinker, but they offer a variety of cappuccinos. Wish they weren't so far from my home, but I'll definitely be back when I'm nearby. read more

I fell in love with this bakery on my trip and ended up getting coffee here every morning I could. The Nutella latte (I got it iced) is deeeelicious! The staff is nice. My one gripe is that the service is very slow. I waited for my coffee a good 10 min each time. However, it was worth it to me and you won't be disappointed. The coffee blows most places out of the water (and I am an avid coffee drinker). The jalapeño bagel is yummy too, as are their sandwiches. They have a bunch of shelves with retail merchandise ranging from toys for kids to food items (like pickles, marshmallows, soup kits, nuts, etc) to little knickknacks for the house. I didn't try any of the cookies or cakes so I can't comment on those, but they looked really yummy and I'll definitely try them on my next trip. Ian's star is right outside their store and they have a perfect view of the clock tower if you sit outside at a table. Inside they have couches and other seating areas. Cute place, cute vibe. Tip for the latte - if you're like me and you like it sweet or with a lot of flavor, taste it first and you can ask them to add more. The first time I got the latte it was PERFECT. I have tried this place since it opened many times. I keep hoping that things will improve but they don't. The last visit will be my last. I hope the owner sees this and trains its employees. I saw an employee take a sugar dispenser out of a customer's hand and put the whole thing into a bin of sugar to fill it. I was so disgusted. All those hands touching that dispenser went right into the large bin of sugar. She got our drinks completely wrong, then couldn't tell the person taking over for her which one was decaffeinated. My friend can't have caffeine, as it affects her heart. The bathrooms didn't have toilet paper, there is almost never anyone who is over 18 there so you can't buy wine. The beer dispensers have been out of order for two years now. The place smells like old mop water, like they never clean the mops. The only good thing I can say for them is that their baked goods are good. If you want great coffee, go to Lily and Sparrow down the street from there. read more

Came to Bread and Butter Bakery after eating at a local restaurant that rhymes with "cystic mill." We were all full from dinner, but wanted something to drink before we continued our trip to Charleston, SC. Tell-tale "sweet smells" wafted throughout the store and out of the door. If you're hungry for sweets or baked goods, it may be hard to resist not buying anything here. I didn't want anything, but the other three decided to order an iced vanilla cafe, and a couple of ice teas. I was looking around, and I saw self serve taps to the side towards the back of the store that included beers, hard cider, hard seltzer and Kombucha. I knew one of the other three liked Kombucha, and she had expressed a liking for peach flavor. I noticed a sign that stated that there was peach and ginger Kombucha on tap, so I told her about that. In order to get any of these drinks, customers use a card, sold to them by an employee, and insert it into the card reader near the taps. The price per ounce is posted near the taps. The customer self pours into their cup whatever amount of beverage they want from the tap. The tap shows how many ounces have been poured and the cost of the pour. The customer may continue to pour until the total amount of money put onto the card is reached, then the tap stops working. After the customer is done pouring, they return the card to an employee. G poured a cup of the peach and ginger Kombucha. She said that the peach flavor was weak, so it was meh. This store has many types of baked items. I saw many types of sweets and desserts in the glass display case. They also sell many types of drinks. Had we not been full, I'm pretty sure that we would've bought multiple treats for the drive down to Charleston. All customers go to the bakery counter to order. If it's something that's readily accessible, like cupcakes, cakes, anything in the display case or on the counter, they give the customer the item(s) after they pay. Otherwise, after paying, the customer will have to listen for their name to be called at the drink counter, which is a separate counter. Kind of confusing, but it makes some business sense. Customers can take their items to go, or they can eat/drink in the store at the various tables and lounge chairs inside or at the tables outside. This store also sells many types of gift-y items, some practical, others whimsical. The employees were very knowledgeable, and quickly, efficiently and cheerfully assisted customers. read more

I found this place open on Christmas Eve during a cross-country trip, already a bit fortunate as many of my other options had already taken their leave for the holidays. It was a large place inside. I was more impressed with their sweets and their drink selection than I was with the bagels, so I ended up with a spinach and feta pastry, a fudge bar, and a London Fog, in increasing order of tastiness. The peppermint fudge bar was nice, but the London Fog lasted me all day with a few water refills, and delivered a complex, sweet yet bitter flavor mix.
