Hard to miss this place as it sits above route 28 like a watchful entity. Big, accommodating and plenty of parking, there really isn't a reason to not stop here. Went to this spot because I had gone once before and I loved it last time I came, but this time it was a completely different story. We were first greeted by a snarky employee glaring at us and then when we were ordering our food (which most was sub par except for the avocado toast) she was short tempered. Then when one of our drinks was ready she scolded one of my family members for collecting our drink as if we were grabbing someone else's food. The ambiance was nice though. I would not recommend this spot unless you would like to be scolded when collecting your food or interact with rude employees. After this visit I am never coming back. read more

Bread Alone was such a nice surprise during my Catskills trip. There bakery items, coffee, and sandwiches were all delicious, but what really blew me away, was the pizza. I don't typically think of the Catskills when I think of good pizza, but now I will! The pizza was cooked so well and had a perfect crunch! I know the next time I'm at the Catskills I'll be going back to Bread Alone for breakfast, lunch, and dinner (if they're open that late)!! read more

For a bread place, the bread kind of sucked. The bagel in the beet sandwich was stale and worse than a Thomas bagel. The spicy egg sandwich was okay, not spicy at all, and I left a chunk of the bread uneaten. There was no air conditioning and there were flies everywhere. read more

As a sustainable freak, we were super excited to visit this earth friendly location. So charming and rustic - tons of indoor and outdoor seating. Family and pet friendly. Great if you're passing through or want to spend a bit at a cafe. Got the tempeh Reuben, Turkey Reuben (such unique combos), and beef sandwich. Oof. BA seems to be benefitting from the nearby Phoenicia Diner overflow, but they are not prepared for it. We placed our order & the beeper went off within minutes: great. Not great, it only meant it was broken and they swapped it out without taking any steps to assign our order to the new one- same scenario for the two parties waiting next to us. What ensued was an hour and a half of waiting as they continued to take more orders without organizing or fulfilling the orders that had come before when the issue with the beepers began. An hour later, there was a literal crowd of hungry and impatient diners assembled around the fulfillment counter yelling out their orders to staff who seemed to be hearing it for the first time. To make matters worse, coffee drinks were terrible, as was my bagel. Avocado toast and vegan chocolate poundcake received higher marks from the group. read more

I've seen their stalks at a few farmers markets in the city so I was really excited to stop by their actual location. The exterior and interior were so aesthetic - rusty modern is how I'd describe it. I got a few things to try here and everything was delicious. Came in on a Saturday for lunch - gives upscale panera vibes, but way smaller menu and fresher food. Staff is very nice, and the location has lots of seating indoors and outdoors. The tomato bisque was superb. Soups are $8.50 for a large cup and comes with a thick slice of wonderful bread. I also got a slice of chocolate pound cake - it was cold from refrigeration. Nice breakfast stop with a lot of bread and baked good options. The ricotta toast was amazing and we got a few pastries including the lemon poppy pound cake which was very good! The Woodstock location seems to be a very busy spot but they got us right through the line and we did not wait long for our food. Being the first carbon neutral bakery in the USA is quite the impressive feat! I've been wanting to eat at a Bread Alone cafe for a while and recently was able to visit their redone Earth-friendly Boiceville location. Bread Alone has been around since 1983, and their loaves can even be found in NYC groceries and greenmarkets.  The brownie ($4.50), a collaboration with nearby Fruition Chocolate, was incredible. A gooey rich marvel, in a desirable state between a solid and a liquid. After savoring the last morsel, I immediately considered purchasing another one.  I ordered the roasted pork sandwich ($14) which was also impressive. Besides the pork, there's Hawthorne Valley curtido (Googling informs me that it's a fermented veggie slaw from El Salvador), pimenton aioli, cheddar, and arugula, all inserted into ciabatta. It's just the sandwich size was a little light for the price tag. Or if there were a small side or something, that would've been nice. Free seltzer was available--yes!  There were a billion dogs here. At times, I wasn't sure if I were at a bakery or a dog park. Yappy dogs inside the hard surface-filled cafe do not a good combo make. Also, even if we're outside, please do not walk your dog near me while I'm eating, thanks. read more

Loving everything about the newly redesigned Bread Alone. The inside is gorgeous, the expanded menu seems to have everything you can imagine and more. I could live on the pastries alone :) The staff is always friendly, knowledgeable and offers great service with a smile. We visited Bread Alone on our second visit to the Catskills. We had come to the region just after the pandemic to experience Rail Explorers (see my review) and said we must return to the area. After getting a beautiful Airbnb in Boiceville, we were back! Bread Alone was a five-minute drive from where we were staying and it's certainly a must-see! We visited this location twice during our stay. Our first visit wasn't as good as our second. During our first visit we felt rushed though by the attendant, even though we were the only ones in line. There's so many things to consider, being rushed takes away from the experience. We ordered a canele, an almond croissant, and a morning bun. Things were packed messily. Everything was delicious, especially the canele. Our second visit was much smoother. Our attendant was friendly and patient. She packed our items delicately and showed a lot of care. We got a berry tart, a pecan sticky bun, an eclair and some egg sandwiches. Everything was absolutely delicious. We wish we had a Bread Alone where we live! read more

Food - Ordered the Salmon Works bagel sandwich and it was packed full of flavor! Bagel was fresh and delicious. Spicy Egg sandwich was small but mighty - super tasty but not a honking portion. Coffee delicious and tasted wonderful, definitely not watered down junk. Service - Wonderful! We ordered ahead online which save time waiting in line. One of the items we ordered online wasn't available so they easily took off the item from our bill, refunded us, and had everything set before we arrived. Highly recommend ordering ahead online! Website is super easy to use and very convenient. Ambiance - beautiful! Inside was nice and cool with plenty of seating. Nice music. Everything super clean and maintained. Beautiful aesthetic. I really enjoyed two meals here. First was a bacon, egg, and cheese on a croissant. You can tell the ingredients were fresh, and showcased their baked good, the croissant perfectly. It was butter and delicious. The next day I had the chicken tarragon sandwich, which also had some amazing bread (a ciabatta). The only complaint was the amount of chicken and other ingredients, leaving only a small layer of the insides, as seen in the picture. It was adequate, but a bit small for my taste. I took home a spelt and whole wheat loaf of bread. The server recommended this one because of the unique flavor of the grain combination. I enjoyed bread and butter for a week, amazing bread, with Irish butter (there is not better way to enjoy high-quality break, in my opinion). This place is a truly exceptional bakery, and worth the visit! read more

I really enjoy this location of Bread Alone. It's large, with lots of opportunities for outdoor seating. Menus should be made available before you wait on line, so you can think about what you want to order before reaching the register. Some servers are cranky, some are friendly. The food is good. Our standing order is a bacon egg and cheese sandwich on fresh baked brioche and the breakfast burrito. Yum! Last time we were there, an employee brought my dog a bowl of water which he greatly appreciated. read more

Before we drove up to Boiceville for the weekend I knew I would be coming here multiple times for breakfast and oh boy you all were a treat. Amazing, fresh bread, ingredients, creative sandwiches, perfect hot cup O joes, and did I mention yummy bread? We came both Saturday and Sunday morning hungry and caffeine parched. There was a community chicken around! If you are not familiar with Bread Alone think a Panera bread on a wholesome non-corporate level. If you are familiar with Bread alone then you are probably aware they closed the location in the Kingston area when this location opened up. The biggest problem with the old location was parking. Well nothing has changed. This parking lot is just as horrific. There is street parking but that gets filled up as well. They are very proud to be one of the first carbon neutral bakeries in the country. Unfortunately I don't think they took into account the 3-4 cars at all times (even more on weekends) idling waiting for a parking spot. But hey Carbon neutral blah blah blah Billy Idol says don't idle in your Audi/BMW/Porsche/Land Rover and of course Subaru. Tesla's get a pass for obvious reasons. But as for the actual place. It's Bread Alone with a good amount of indoor and outdoor seating. You either love it or hate it. Bonus points for when the pizza stand is open. One bite score....8.1 read more

What a disappointment. This place has increasingly become a disappointment. First started going to this location years ago, they had a good selection of pastries, good coffee, and pretty good quality products. After this location was fully renovated (old building torn down and now it's a brand new building) Bread Alone became a huge let down. The pastries are now just down to some muffins and eclairs... whereas years past they had a good amount of different bread types and would slice it one the spot and a lot of different pastries. Now it's barely anything there and last time I was there, there was no bread. Second, they have these bottled "organic" juices that are nothing more than different Minute Maid types of drinks made from concentrate which are all disgusting and tbh overpriced. Been fans of Bread Alone Cafe since the 90's. Stopping to grab a sandwich is the most anticipated part of any trip to or from our country residence nearby. The new facility is probably the most ambitious retail project on the 28 corridor in years. Very impressive indeed. Seems like management may need time however to get their act entirely together. Both my wife and my sandwich was not as described in their menu online and was a departure in preparation from what we've had in the past (ie; my everything bagel and lox was served on a plain bagel). The operation there was always run really well and probably will iron out minor kinks like we encountered. read more

Latte versus Cappuccino. Training issue. The lattes are made like cappuccinos, unfortunately. Lattes are about two-thirds steamed milk, with the other third split between espresso and foam. Instead, from Bread Alone, when I order a latte, it comes with about a third of the cup being just foam, which is essentially a cappuccino. A cappuccino has equal parts of espresso, milk, and foam. A third, a third, and a third. It's what I get but not what I ordered. There should be no need to request little foam when ordering a latte because, by definition, a latte always has little foam. Please ensure the staff reviews the standard recipes for lattes and cappuccinos. read more

This Boiceville location seems to be working for us and probably has about the same variety of breads and pastries, as their sister location on Tinker Street in Woodstock. Except- this location- doesn't get as much foot traffic as Woodstock and their Baguettes don't seem to run out as fast either- so I'm content with that. From hearty country loaves (or Baguettes when I get that weakness for) to very rich pastries, Alone doesn't have a shortage of anything. I really can't tell you what's the best item here. But I can assure you, the last 2 times, our light noshes faired very good, Pastries were buttery and Baguette was pretty decent for these neck of the woods: that well-known crunchy shell and the light inside, which isn't overly doughy but you do see those typical air pockets in Baguettes. Winner!!! Prices? Nothing too outrageous and if they are... can't complain much as there isn't a bakery of this type for miles. Young girls tend the counter and have been pleasant. If we're on Rt 28, this has been our starting point to pick up a couple bites to take with us or something to satisfy my Sweet tooth. read more

I've been coming to Bread Alone for a couple of decades , first in Woodstock and more frequently now on Route 28 in Boiceville. Great food and the spacious Boiceville location, newly expanded, usually has a place to sit an enjoy. Here's my issue. I order online to take away orders, sometimes several orders for my friends and family in tow. Over the past year, we have had to return our order due to an incomplete or missing order. This can be very frustrating particularly when you've left the premises. Staff is always apologetic but the consistency of these order mishaps can be avoided. The lesson is, check your bag before departure. Minor criticism for sure and this shouldn't prevent you from visiting although as everywhere these days, smaller servings for a bit more money. read more

Bread Alone in Boiceville you have disappointed me way too many times and it would go against my belief as a business owner to continue to support you ..... The food is okay most times fresh and or edible, there's been times over the past 20 years of support you at your locations or supermarkets bread/bagels/crossiants/coffee have been stale/burnt. Not sure if it's the bad vibe and attitude that your employees are projecting to the consumer come from ownership/management?? It's rude, disrespectful and outright wrong! Rule of thumb if the food is okay and customer service is fantastic I will always come back. If the the customer service is terrible and consistently terrible I keep giving the business a try..... no more! During covid I understand why indoors policy's were enforced, when the building was/is under construction it seems as if your staff was more focused on telling customers to wear a mask (outside) before taking their order. This has over the past 1.5years from what I see causes tension all around. I was ignored last year cause and was told by your employee to wear a mask or I couldn't be served? I said okay, didn't know however you could have said it right away instead of making me wait until I got impatient and stepped up. Unfortunately today the customer service was horrible, they were more focused on telling customers you need to put on a mask (outside) before I can take your order, instead of greeting you....waiting more than 15mins for a simple egg sandwich and received stale pastries and over cooked bread. read more

I used to love Bread Alone, but their service has gone badly downhill. Have been to this location several times, and each time the servers screwed up almost everything in our order. They didn't even know what some basic coffee or tea drinks were, and my friend (who used to be a barista) had to explain it to them. It's a shame, we really wanted to support Bread Alone, and especially this carbon neutral location. But it's too irritating to deal with the incompetent staff. read more
