My 1st impression is that it's a lovely place (star #1), the young woman at the register was absolutely friendly and helpful (star #2) and star #3 my irish coffee was yummy with the exception of sprinkles (?), what ever they were. Don't ask for decaffeinated ( over the top bitter-tasted my partner's / decaf ugh) or skimmed milk (they didn't have any) and I'm ok with servers telling me about how many certs the barista has because he seems very competent. I didn't know the country Brazil (Brasil?) was known for blueberry pancakes, but the one I had here was spectacular. Mine was super fluffy and just perfect in every other way. Large portion too. I would even compare it to the one I had in San Fransisco at a popular place called Mama's on Washington. If you've been there before, then yes, it's that good. The menu calls the pancake a "stack" though, which didn't make sense because it only came with one, but whatever! I came here with a bunch of friends for brunch. Little did I know it was so close to Common Bond bakery (literally pancake throwing distance). We ordered so much food that the plates filled up our entire table space. I had the Tamale Breakfast, which consisted of scrambled eggs, two chicken tamales, black beans, salsa and guajillo sauce. Not sure what kind of sauce guajillo is, but the overall dish was good! It's somewhat filling and has protein - what more to ask? Maybe a little more food for my infinite volume stomach? Nah - for $9, that's not bad! I read that there were bad experiences with service here so that made me weary before coming. We sat outside and didn't have any issues with service. Food came on time and the staff was just normal. They offer plenty of tables and have both indoor and outdoor seating. On a nice day, I recommend trying to snatch a table outside, but good luck with that! It was a little crowded when we went. One of our friends had to stay and guard the table while we took turns ordering. Parking isn't so fun around here. You'll end up needing to park in the back neighborhood along the street. First of all - nothing about this place is Brazilian. Second - I really don't appreciate a place that pretty much is asking you to leave before you even sit down. Some guy in glasses and a hat was patrolling me the entire hour and 20 mins I stayed ~ not sure if it's because I'm actually Brazilian or ?? I just needed a well-lit place to work for about 2 hours and some food. I ordered glass of wine and dinner and before I even sat down (in a completely empty room) this guy was like "Is it just one of you? If so would you mind sitting in that (dark) corner?" I rolled my eyes and sat in the dark corner. SO dark. I ordered another glass of wine and the guy comes up again and asked how long I planned on "working" so that he could "see where everyone was at." This place was not full AT ALL. I had an open tab and would have liked to stay for another glass of wine and dessert but caught the guy monitoring me several times and finally felt SO uncomfortable that I decided to leave. Went here for lunch with some coworkers. There is street parking and good luck with that. Luckily, we were in a tiny car so we found a spot fairly easily. It's a walk up order and they bring to your number place. I got the burger with fries and a cookie. I wasn't too impressed by either. My friend likes this place for the salad. The burger wasn't anything special to me, and the fries were less special than the burger. The burger was a $15 burger after adding the $2 bacon (which was not crispy as requested) and the $1 for cheese. The cookie wasn't soft. The employees the last time I was there also gave me a very hard time about trying to use my refillable water bottle at their open tap water serving area. I've always known it was there (even with its lack of a sign) but never felt like I was 'hip' enough to go there. I was under a false impression that it was just a tiny coffee shop. I was wrong! I was a little worried after reading a few of the reviews on here, that our service would be below par, but this wasn't my experience. The people behind the counter were friendly and professional. We ordered and our food came quickly. The french toast was excellent (and I am definitely picky about breakfast food). The blueberry coffee cake was delicious! There was yummy fresh squeezed OJ, yummy bacon, a delicious yogurt parfait, a waffle covered in fruit, and a great eggs Benedict. Everyone at the table really enjoyed their food, there wasn't a bad item in the bunch! We loved the atmosphere in the place. The outdoor patio looked great but hot on a day that reached 100 degrees! What surprised me most was the mix of different people there. There was everything from young hip looking Montrose people to older couples. I saw at least one kid while I was there. This place is so great ever since the remodel. As a young'n I used to come here for granitas and concerts at night with friends. For lunch or dinner I am in loooove with the beet-goat cheese sandwich. I did recreate it at home. In a busy intersection there is an unassuming little cafe that emerges you into an entirely different city! I had never been to Brasil before and I must admit it felt weird to have to order food at the bar as if it were a counter service restaurant. This was in the inside corner dining room. There was even 3 of us studying. 3rd time) We ate on the back patio, then moved inside to study. The manager walked all the way inside to confirm that we were going to study(?). He was nice about it, but I can somewhat relate to the other posts that he could be taken a bit aggressive or unwelcoming. I understand that he wants to make money, but each time I have dined in it has never been near full capacity. I would guess 30-40% maybe... I guess my suggestion is to study inside and not on the patio/outside seating as they are more popular dining areas. I can't speak about any racial discrimination, but there are many ethnicities that I've seen here and employed here. Lastly, food has always been great every time. The extensive food menu, creative daily specials, and cozy layout, stretches visits with friends to hours, often lasting until midnight when the staff starts shooing us out. There's also plenty of furry surprises. Parking is a challenge as there is not a designated lot, and there's plenty going on in the area. Parallel parking is one of your few options, and there are plenty of residential areas behind this establishment to do just that. Open entrance, your daily specials are scribbled on the chalkboard, and this is where my attention is usually drawn.. The daily specials are often time seasonal goodies, and many times creative sounding combinations, so don't forget to take a look. As for the regular entrees, you can order one off the laminated copies of the mainly Greek-inspired menu, offering sandwiches, salads, and pastas, the usual cafe fare, but with incredibly delicious outcomes. I usually order one of their fresh brewed coffees. An assortment of their displayed cakes and pastries are a great supplement to any drink. The tira misu is a melty dream in your mouth! The goat cheese and sausage pizza is incredibly delicious, and it's perfect for sharing. After ordering, you take your number and have a seat. There's also a decent selection of specialty wine and beers, but be ready for the hefty mark-up. Indoors provides adequate space and low lights, perfect for the company of one more. A larger room towards the back is accented with stuffed teddy bears decorating the walls. Huh? Yeah, just pay no attention to their staring eyes... On nice weather days, the two patios offer a more open setting, which I prefer over the roaring chatter or occasional musicians they have performing on the weekends. The front patio offers a more scenic, intimate setting, while the back patio offers well... cockroaches on the walls and skittering across the floor, rats and possums bouncing around the rooftops and fence. While I enjoyed the food and atmosphere this visit, I most certainly did not enjoy the treatment me and my guest received. I came in ordered breakfast and a drink went to the patio area to get some work done while i waited for my guest. When they arrived we moved inside and not even 10 mins later we were asked "what were we doing here, were we ordering more or finishing". I felt rushed and it happened a second time same question. At that point me and my guest left. So sad me and my guest will not be back and we will certainly let our friends and family know about the experience we had. Their Wi-Fi (free with purchase) is hit or miss and is usually a miss on days I come. Look for the password on your receipt and try to locate the "brasil" network, not the "brasil-2" network, and cross your fingers to hope it's working. Their service and quality has gone downhill over the years and it's been a long time since they were the hot new place on the block to see and be seen. But it's still a clean modern environment to kill some time, go on a date, or just grab a snack. My mother in law, husband and infant were waiting for me to arrive while enjoying their coffee and brunch and were badgered repeatedly by the owner/manager as to when I was coming. Mind you the restaurant was empty! That was surprising to me the first time we went since every other place in the area had long lines, but now I know why. The service is terrible. I understand if they were busy and gave customers a heads up as to the allotted time they had at the table, but to constantly pester paying customers as to when they were leaving is completely unprofessional. As I walked in, I was greeted by the lovely aroma of tulips. Gorgeous tulips on the counter! The place has a really cool vibe to it. I asked the person taking orders what they recommended since I hadn't been there before and I got exactly what he suggested and it was super delicious. Pork tamales with their green sauce, chocolate mousse for dessert and coffee of course. All great. PLUS my boyfriend and I discovered Harry Sheppard on Monday nights! I've had very mixed experiences at Brasil, depending on what I'm doing. The food and eating with friends - 4 stars: The breakfast is pretty good, but way overpriced. They do have a combo deal with a coffee, OJ, and scone that I like, but other things on the menu aren't worth it. I had a chia pudding-like meal one time, and something in it made my stomach react weirdly so not again. The tamales are delicious though! Probably the only thing I will ever get from Brasil for it's price to flavor ratio. Doing work: Every time I've been there to study, I do take a table for myself - but it's never been full and I've never spent more than a couple of hours there. But every time, I've always been pestered to keep my tab going or keep ordering more food, even to the point that other patrons will ask how long I've been there and are surprised when I respond with barely an hour or two. It's annoying and neither the food nor the location is enough to make the experience worth it. Brasil is close to a high school, which may be why the staff/manager/whoever doesn't like people coming to do work, but that's still not a reason to be so pushy. My sister and I have been going to Brasil for years and have always loved the food and tolerated the service. We know that going to Brasil will give us full stomachs and mean looks and eye rolls most of the time. The last time we went, however, my sister (who is the sweetest girl in the world and would never say anything) ordered her breakfast sandwich without tomatoes. To be clear, my sister is very allergic to tomatoes. The waiter brought us her sandwich and it had tomatoes on it, she politely asked them to send it back and was given attitude.
