The decor is cool, with spacious outdoor patio seating surrounded by many tall plants so you don't feel exposed to the street( it is located on a corner). I believe it's a bar/coffee/food joint. Looks to be a great place to catch up with a group of friends! I got friendly service and the staff give of a nice, cool, down to earth vibe. Love coming to this cute and cozy cafe! Café Brazil has a great menu to offer. The tamales are delicious! If you're up for trying them, I suggest the pork or the chicken. They are so flavorful, and have an authentic taste to them. The grilled chicken sandwich is also a great option, I always order mine with their ciabatta bread. So good! The portions, are small but filling. The coffee is great, and they have a good variety of beers as well. The staff is always friendly, and the place has a very relaxed feel to it. Cute cafe with two separate patios (one covered, one uncovered). I love their chai tea latte, and enjoy the duck salad, all the tamales and pizzas. This is more a place for people to congregate and chat with their coffees or work on their laptop quietly during the week rather than a full blown dinner, but it's a great place for weekend brunch--but be careful, it gets super crowded and the wait for your food can take a painful amount of time to get. That being said, going during the week is a much safer bet. The back patio plays movies on the weekends too apparently, but I haven't enjoyed this feature, though I've been coming here since the early 2000s. read more

The fact that this place has only 3 stars is a sign you're better off at a strip mall Starbucks. The food is mediocre and the manager's antics are embarrassing. I've come here twice--once for lunch and once for coffee. I certainly plan to return again! When my friends and I came for lunch, I ordered an arugula goat cheese salad, which was well seasoned with just the right amount of dressing. My only disappointment was with the beets, which did not taste/appear to be roasted as stated on the menu. One of my friends ordered the pear and walnut salad, and was very happy with their use of fresh rather than canned pears. We all left very full and happy, though we wished we had room to try one of the pastries. The next time I came with a friend for coffee, we decided to share a triple chocolate cake--which was dense, rich and sweet as expected. Maybe a little too sweet for me--but still good nonetheless. The cake was giant, and perfect for splitting among two or even three people. As for the ambiance--I definitely love the feel of Brasil! HEALTH CODE PROBLEMS! I am so sad to write this review because Brasil has been one of my favorite - perhaps my all time favorite - restaurant in Houston. They have a great menu. INDIAN SPICED CAULIFLOWER- mango chutney, raita, crispy leeks, buttered naan, cashews, and pepper oil I like the spice in this dish. This place used to be stomping grounds for some friends and I in college. I used to have dinner here before heading to Poison Girl down the street and the food is really good and that hasn't changed really, but the owner is pushy if you've finished your meal and drinks and are trying to hang out with friends. It's really rude to dismiss your patrons if they are talking over drinks after they've ordered and eaten their food. I understand if it's super busy and they need to turn tables so they don't lose out on incoming patrons, but it's blunt and assholian. It's a cafe that started off as a place for people to meet, drink, have coffee, and grab a bite but it's starting to change. And not for the better. I can't give my money to this creepy owner. I'll just echo the other numerous reviews describing how pushy the owner is even when the patio is mostly empty and the indoor area is completely empty. About half an hour after finishing my almond croissant, an older gentleman who I later find out is the owner offers to bus my mostly empty cup of coffee and for another coffee. Thinking that he is just offering me my free refill, I say "no thank you, please leave the cup" which has some coffee left. He then goes on to accuse me of "lying" about whether I will finish the cup of coffee. I'm very confused at this point and ask him why I would lie about this. He was just very aggressive and very flustered. Initially I thought he was a waiter who had very poor social skills (especially since he also complained to a family about their children). Unless you want to be verbally harassed by the trashy and narcissistic owner for not continuously ordering mediocre food after you've finished eating, do not give this establishment your time or money. Awesome experience as always. Whenever I can't think of a restaurant to go to with friends my go to is Brasil. And ill add I've never once been disappointed. First time coming for brunch as it's my favorite meal (check out my Houston brunch collection). I'm meat free and avoid dairy so Brasil is always very conscientious when it comes to people's dietary preferences. The brunch I had with a friend in town from London she absolutely loved. The guy at the cash register was very friendly. Now that I think of it all the people who have ever brought my food or rang up my check have been lovely. I just finished up here about an hour or so ago. I had the french toast which was pretty good, but not amazing, and it is served with bacon which is nice. For $10, not a bad price, but it's not fancy (i.e. no fruit on your plate, though there is both a little container of syrup and one of fruit sauce of some sort). The texture was nice but the flavor was simple, without the syrup I couldn't have eaten it. The place is counter service, so you have to get up to get more water or what not, which isn't horrible but inconvenient given the price points. The food is a little healthier than places like Denny's (or so other reviews suggest) but you pay more for it. The ambiance is nicer than those types of places, so come here for the experience and decently good food at fair prices... not to be wowed by food or deals. I felt like we were being chased out a bit, the manager/owner type guy seemed to give us an evil eye, came back to take our chair, then a third time to ask if I was waiting on food (I'd actually already finished and since we didn't have a number still on our table... clearly that should have been obvious that I wasn't waiting on food). When I left I was debating between and 3 and 4... perhaps the service issues were just in my head. However, an hour later I've decided that it's a solid 2. Why solid 2? Well forgive the imagery but it's because an hour later my stomach felt funny and what came out of me for the next 10 minutes wasn't very solid at all. Was it Brasil's fault? I'm not sure... but I don't know what else it could have been. I've been coming to Brasil since it was a coffee shop. The food has always been pretty good, but Brasil was a place you went to for atmosphere. They had live local music, outdoor movies, and local art on the walls. The live music seems long gone, but some of that vibe was still there until recently. Now, the atmosphere has gone toxic with the rest of hipster culture. I went in with my son at 8:30 pm last night. There were around 6 tables in the restaurant, and two of us had children under 10. The lights were so low that I though the place was closed when we walked up, and the LOUD music was this kind of jazzy rap where someone mumbles racial slurs and graphic, x-rated fantasies at 120db. They turned off the music, but the attitude was still there. This is a place for "cultural revolutionaries" now. If you're not open minded enough to sit down with your kids and listen to 10 racial slurs a minute, go somewhere else. Giving it two stars because the food is still pretty good. read more

However, the star of the show must have been the Gochujang jang Chicken Sandwich. The only thing I would remove is the pickles. I think it definitely needs an acid to cut the creaminess of the sauce, but maybe some pickled cabbage would do the trick....? Just a suggestion. The pickles were simply too much in one place. Don't burden the costumer with petty comments, rather put in the work to change your establishment so there is no confusion. Original review: This establishment had great potential but you can find the same, if not better, in a friendlier Montrose establishment. After sitting down for about 20 minutes, barely finishing our food and still working on our coffee, a man in a cowboy hat (who I presume is the owner) came up and made a comment that we need "get out" after two hours. This comment was accompanied by aggressive hand motions to the door. Not seconds later did he make his way to another table and made no comment to them about getting out. While I understand time limitations there is a polite way to deliver that message, which he did not do. This was a very off putting experience and we left immediately. We did not feel welcomed anymore and will take our business elsewhere. Such a bummer because this was a place that we highly recommended in the past but will do so no longer. I have been meaning to write this review for a while. This place was just such a disappointment. The lettuce in my caesar salad tasted like it had gone bad and if you can taste the lettuce over the dressing in a caesar you know you have a problem. We also got the cheese board to start and I don't even know where to start with this. I had never gotten a cheese board with just blue cheese crumbles tossed on there. There was not a single edible cheese on that board. I wish I had thought to take photos but I would for sure pass on this place. He asked me to move to a smaller table TWICE during 1 hour when I was there and he wanted room for the "lunch crowd" - the crowd never came.
