UPDATE: Mark is likely misogynistic, homophobic, and racist. As an openly queer woman of color the interactions I had with him make a lot more sense now. I did a little bit of research on our "friend" Mark. He is definitely an anti-vaxxer and enjoys posting mocking cariacatures of successful Black women. I would not expect anything less from a pretentious and unprofessional white man in tech. update 2: Mark keeps trying to take the screenshots I took of his public hate down. I will keep reposting them so long as I still have the screenshots. ;) ______________________________________________________ I was debating writing a review but decided to after all so I can hopefully save someone the trouble. I was referred to Brainwave (on the down low from an employee) from apple after having battery problems with my macbook pro. My laptop worked fine when plugged into a power source, but the battery was draining quickly when it was not plugged in. Not a huge problem, but annoying. At first Mark seemed to be great and professional, a bit pricy but he assured timeliness and a full fix, which I was willing to pay a bit more for because I am a graduate student and use my laptop for literally everything. Though Mark did replace the battery, he also happened to damage a small piece within the device called a MOSFET. The MOSFET is responsible for controlling the fan speed. With this piece broken my laptop was super loud all the time. My roommate once thought it was our dishwasher making the sound, if that gives you any context to how loud it was. I wanted to be patient with Mark but he took weeks just to determine what part of my computer he had accidentally (who knows it could have been purposefully) damaged, all while not taking responsibility for the fact that he had damaged it. I would have been less irritated had he owned up to what he did and offered me a reduced price for my battery change, considering that he introduced a new problem to my device that wasn't pre-existing. However when I advocated for myself and asked him, he refused saying that he can't partially refund a "successful fix". A successful fix? I walked in with a simple battery issue and now my laptop had started sounded like a dishwasher!? After a full month of practically calling him everyday to get a status update, he "fixed" the fan problem and returned my laptop back to me. At this point, I was just glad to have it back but of course, it wasn't truly fixed. My macbook worked like normal for approximately 1.5 days before having issues again. This time there is a problem where the device keeps crashing, and the screen goes black each time. When I try to reboot it the same crashing issue keeps happening. However, after one month of back and forth interaction and little care for customer satisfaction from Mark, I decided not to deal with him. I am instead taking to yelp and warning anyone I know not to go to him. He single-handedly ruined my macbook pro that previously only had a minor battery issue. It is now unusable. I ended up buying a completely new device and will be taking other action regarding this situation with Mark and Brainwave. Keep in mind that as a student, buying a new macbook this year was not great for my pocket, but I needed a new device. Please do not come to this shop and make the same mistake I did!!! read more

It's unfortunate seeing negative reviews bring down the reputation of a small business such as Brainwave's, especially when said reviews have hardly anything to do with the actual service. I've been taking my PC to this shop ever since I moved to Beaverton (3 years now) and I really do appreciate the effort the staff puts into resolving any issues I encounter. They're very understanding of my needs. Always offer alternative solutions and provide follow up calls. I had a recent issue with my GPU causing my PC to crash and I just couldn't figure it out. They even sent in my GPU for a new replacement with NVIDIA and took care of that entire process for me. Are they perfect? No. I wouldn't expect anyone to be perfect. This day and age you got a lot of entitled Karen's giving these smaller shops a tough time for the smallest inconveniences. Personally, I think these type of shops are going extinct and it's no surprise why. Would you rather go through Geek Squad? Hell no! Not me. We need these shops, especially for us tech enthusiasts, & gamers who understand the complexities and demand required to maintain A well kept Pc. These guys are so cool they even let me purchase one of their first (POC) custom built mechanical keyboards - looking forward to seeing more of this inventory in the near future. Again, nobody is perfect, I sure ain't. But they definitely made an effort to work with me and earn my business. Fired me after 4 days with no reason. Ever since I had my initial 'interview' with Eric. It was very apparent he didn't know much about computers. Eric is a professional bullshitter and will blatantly lie to you if it means he's going to make a sale. I watched them charge a poor older lady $550 to transfer her data and setup her email. It's baffling to me that they would let Eric work in the storefront when he just doesn't understand what customers are talking about or how to fix their issues. Wish I had read the reviews of this place before applying. Even another worker there states that there is a high turnover rate and that Eric is to blame for that. He must have felt threatened by me or something because I hurt his ego. Told me we were fine and had no issues then followed me out at the end of my shift and fired me. He couldn't even say "you're fired" just kept saying "we're good". They must be hemorrhaging money via unemployment claims. I wouldn't come here unless you don't mind spending an arm and a leg to get a simple fix and don't mind them holding onto your computer for a week minimum while it sits unworked on for days next to the other tickets. After a power outage, my computer refused to let me on certain internet websites. Try as I might, I could not figure out how to disable the Opendns that prevented my access. I brought my computer into Brainwave to pay for service. Within minutes, we connected to their internet and my problem went away. As I assumed that the problem was with my wireless router at home, I decided to decline service and go home and try once again to figure out the problem at that end. Marc graciously understood, but fiddled around with a few settings. Disconnecting my internet, he encouraged me to log in when I got home. His hint did the trick! Although I had rebooted many times at home, I had never logged completely out of the wireless system on my computer. Service doesn't get better than this. When I offered to pay him for the short time he did spend on my computer, he refused saying that he wants his customers to be satisfied.Well, he sure satisfied this customer! Great service, Marc. It couldn't be true, but it was. My i-phone notified me that a new OS upgrade was available, so I downloaded it. It appeared to load alright, but it displayed a high contrast color image making it impossible to use the LIFT App. My Phone and I drove to BrainWave , Scholls Ferry Road in Beaverton in a panic arriving just as the store opened. The staffer, listened to my story, indicated that he knew what was happening and in three minutes it was running properly. I got LIFT reservations just in time and had a great day. This is the fourth time I have gone to BrainWave for service. Each time I was acknowledged and met with a "can do" attitude. Each time the work was done quickly, at a competitive price. I am sorry to say other vendors have not performed as well. BrainWave has two offices and work on both computers and phones. I highly recommend you try them out for small or big issues. I spilled a full glass of water right on my expensive Lenovo laptop and was pretty devastated when the whole thing shut down. After taking the laptop to Bestbuy (where that particular rep was not very knowledgeable or helpful), I was pointed to BrainWave Computers. Now, I was very uncomfortable, because I've never used a computer repair shop. I didn't know how expensive this was going to be or how to find a trustworthy location. I could tell right away that Sean was a trustworthy guy. He didn't speak down to me and took time to explain how things work. I got my laptop back the very next day for under $100! I wish I could bold that last part because I was seriously doing a happy dance. I was prepared for $200-$500 and was just hoping it was closer to the former. The vibe is low key (not super shiny and Apple-esque). They have a Star Wars theme going on that seemed cute to me. Glad to know I have a local go-to computer shop now. read more

I am writing to express my dissatisfaction with the service I just received at your shop. I expressed my discomfort with providing my password from the start, and you gladly agreed. It was a sign of trust, a digital handshake if you will. However, after billing me for a service that was promised but not given, you had the audacity to request my password, claiming you could run the diagnostics without it. This, sir, is more than a plot twist; it's a plan betrayal! It's similar like paying for dinner and then being expected to do the dishes. I would appreciate a full refund for the services I did not receive, as well as an apology for the breach of trust. This guy Mark is AWESOME! I have never in my life met a computer guy like this. He knows everything about pcs and macs and hes is very friendly and down to earth. There is definitely no "geek"ness involved at Brainwave PC. Who needs geeks when you have Brainwave PC!? If you check out the store, they have a ton of used macs sitting out along with a bunch of laptops, netbooks, towers, cables, and components. I came here to get a hard to find cable adapter that 4 other stores couldn't even order or find, and Mark found it in under 3 minutes. IMPRESSED I MUST SAY! Today I took my computer to BrainWave Computers and was greeted by Mark Gibbs, President of BrainWave Computers. Mark was very welcoming and very helpful from beginning to end. I had a minor issue with my laptop not connecting to another monitor and Mark immediately thought of a couple of different options to fix the issue. Mark was pretty certain he knew what the issue was and fixed the computer problem very quickly. Can't say anything negative about these guys. I had a complete wipe and reinstall down which was done the next day, open pickup they went over everything with me in detail. I had a problem with it a few days later, had seem the hard drive went out. Took it back and they offered to take a look at it and let me know what was wrong. Discussed the idea of a new hard drive and even told them to replace it if needed. I got it back the next day (was ready same day) since they were able to fix the issue and at no cost to me. Not only is the shop amazing (huge fish aquariums and lounge recliners) but the owner knows his stuff backwards and forwards; and he's in the store most days.
