I went in for a screen replacement since I bought the kit on Amazon but didn't want to tackle it on my own. It's a good thing I didn't. Turns out the kit screen is smaller than the actual phone frame, which meant I also needed to order a frame. I had the frame shipped to Airlink and Minh handled it all seamlessly. I went to this store because my elderly friend bought a cell from them and rather than transferring her old number to the new phone, they gave different phone number. The problem is that she got locked out of her email and the recovery number was the old cell number which no longer works. I was hoping to find a solution to my friend's problem but when I tried to explain, I was cut off mid sentence. As someone already pointed out, pay no attention to the racist reviews (seriously Portland?). Minh speaks excellent English and has an accent, which I've noticed for some folks in Portland equals "hard to understand." Jesus H. Christ. Anyway, so a few weeks ago, I injured my charge port on my Galaxy Nexus while in LA and when I got home, searched for a place to get it fixed. I found Airlink gave me the best estimate and was closest to me. So, Minh says he can fix my phone for $50, which is much better than the $100+ everywhere else wants to charge me. He also tries to expedite the process since I'm currently only able to communicate through Facebook until I can find my old, old phone and get it reactivated. However, I somehow fried my phone. Two weeks and three charge ports later (Minh never asked me to come in until he was absolutely sure he tried everything and checked everything) to see why my phone wasn't working. He ordered three of the same charge port (on my last visit, he took out each charge port, which was the exact same kind for my phone), tried four different charges, and tried my own battery, a new one which I just bought and my roommate's (who has the same phone). My roommate, also a tech person, was there for the explanation and could confirm, that yep, I fried my phone while trying to fix it on my own. However, Minh is knowledgeable, courteous and skilled. He knew what to do and how to do it. In the end, he even said "Since I couldn't fix it, I'm not going to charge you, so don't worry about that." Throughout all of this, with the two or so weeks of work and ordering parts, he had told me he wasn't going to charge me more than original $50 anyway. From my experience, no one will ever put that much work into something and not charge you, even if they aren't successful. Shattered the glass of my Google Nexus 4. It was clearly still alive, but there was no talking to it; the touch screen was dead. The guy at the T-Mobile store said it was definitely repairable; the Gorilla Glass just needed replacing. I had used Airlink once before to unlock a phone, and was happy with that service. So I took my broken Nexus there, and, 19 days and $140 later, got it back repaired. It works fine, looks fine. I'm thrilled to have it back. Needed a phone repair, found this place after searching the web and seeing some good reviews. They fixed my wife's broken Android so cleanly (broken glass) that Verizon didn't blink and argue about voided warranties from being opened when we ended up having to return it. Price was reasonable, too. Since then, we have gone back several times. You see, today's "upgrades" from Verizon for basic phones are limited, crappy, and have built-in ads (they want you to go to smartphones). So we came back to Airlink to look at their used phones. Fairly good selection across all carriers, settled on a refurb'd LG enV marked $90. Sold it to us for $50. Got it home and activated it, found the earpiece didn't work. Took it back, and they swapped it immediately with sincere apologies, no silly "punishment" waiting, no paperwork, they just wanted us to be happy. Works great, no complaints, and yes, we were happy. My sister's phone was going down the tubes, so I took here there for the same reason (to avoid Verizon crap upgrades). She went with the same phone (LG enV), and in exchange for her dying phone to use for parts, they threw in an extra home charger and a car charger, again $50 for all. Works great. Most recently we took my wife's latest phone, a Samsung Galaxy with a damaged mini USB port that wouldn't charge, to them for repair. Three days and $40 later, it's back and works great. Can you imagine trying to get this kind of service at this kind of cost from a Verizon outlet? BAHAHAHAHAAAA! Whatever! Let me also point out that they are a one-stop resource. If they cannot fix the problem or don't have the right stuff, they will call around to similar shops in the area (technically competitors) on your behalf to find your solution. I've seen him do this for another customer two times amongst our visits. This is excellent customer service, because they are showing you that one way or another if you start with them first, your problems will be solved. Don't let first impressions about their somewhat sketchy location or the owner's Asian accent put you off, this place is exactly what customer service and shopping local is all about. If Mark B (the lone bad review) really had a bad experience there, I suspect his own judgmental behavior probably played a role. Speaking with an accent or being rude don't even fall under the definition of a "buffoon", anyway.... I don't think that word means what you think it means, lol. I had bought an imported phone that is not common in the US, so imagine my dismay when I had only had the phone for a few months, and accidentally dropped the phone and shattered the touch screen. My friend had nearly the exact same experience with his iPhone, and recommended Minh's work here at Airlink. Despite the rarity of my phone's model in the US, Minh was able to locate the part and for quite a reasonable charge, was able to replace the touch screen digitizer to working order, with a 30 day limited warranty. A couple months later, my phone started having some issues with dust between the LCD and the replaced digitizer, in addition to dropping signal issues. I took the phone back, and though he was quite backed up(which meant the work took a while), and it was well after the 30 day limited warranty, Minh was willing and able to clean the dust out, and this also fixed the issues the phone was having with dropping signal. I had very bad experience with this shop. I asked to change my battery and he broke the cover when he changed the battery. It's been for a week but I don't hear from him about my phome. He said he would fix it but I don't know when. I complained about it calling him, but he just said he was busy. The shop is bad for service. I don't know about his tech skill, but he even doesn't call me back or anything until I called him. I am so upset due to his bad service. Don't go to this shop or you have bad experience. I called him again about my phone asking when he can fix it. He hanged up the phone when I was talking to him and he even asked me to pay for the part he broke. I rarely leave negative reviews, but my experience with Airlink has left me so burned that I do have to say something. I brought in my phone for a screen glass repair, and was quoted $70. The Airlink folks messed up the repair and ruined the screen. They told me that I would have to pay $100 for a new screen, even though they were the ones who messed it up. I grumbled a bit but I paid the $100. Fast forward one and a half months. The new screen they put in has stopped working. The phone's screen won't turn on at all. I brought it in to Airlink and they refuse to do anything about it. They claim I must have dropped the phone, which I did not do. It's just their way of getting out of doing anything about it. Apparently a repair that lasts only six weeks is ok by them. I wanted to like these guys, but not long after doing business with them I'm out all the money I paid them and I have a dead phone. I don't know how I can feel anything but ripped off. read more

Well? I've been doing business with this company for the past six or seven years and they've always taken care of my phone-related needs. They're efficient, affordable and technically adept. You can't go wrong doing business with these people. The reason that I'm giving five stars has less to do with the technical/ commerce part of doing business, though. It has to do with HEART and character. Minh (( the omnipresent person behind the counter. The owner? I hope? )) is just an amazing jewel of a human being. He's sweet natured and kind and he treats me like an old friend. I feel like I owe it to myself (( and to the world around me, really )) to support local businesses that I value and respect. I was sent here after another iPhone repair shop said they were unable to fix my iPhone X. They said my phone was not worth repairing and they recommended I get a new phone. I figured I'd buy an unlocked phone from Airlink. I am so glad I went here. Airlink was able to fix my phone saving me several hundred dollars. The repair cost was very reasonable. I was told they replaced the screen and battery on my iPhone X and if my phone still malfunctioned they'd refund the cost of screen replacement which I thought was very generous and considerate. I took my Nexus 5 for a repair to fix the digitizer (touch screen), and was told that they'd need to also replace my outer screen to facilitate the repair. I agreed. But a whopping two weeks after the repair was completed, the new screen began to show cracks. That was strange to me because I rarely drop my phone and had no cracks on my previous screen. A few days after the cracks appeared, though, my digitizer broke again! I'm not sure if my replacement screen/digitizer were poorly sourced, installed, or if I'm suddenly predisposed to accidentally destroying my phone, but the quick failure of the repair has left me skeptical of the work here. read more

2 great experiences with Airlink's fantastic, friendly service. I had dropped my Galaxy a few months ago, shattering the screen. Tommy was extremely helpful in helping me get my important photos and files off of my inoperable phone and onto a flashdrive for only $40. I don't think about backing up until too late, clearly. Today I woke up, and for some reason the screen on my Galaxy 2 was just not working. I went to my carrier's store, they told me that they couldn't save anything and the best I could do was get a new phone thru my insurance and pay my $130 deductible, but I needed my files! (I know... back up.) I went to the cell phone repair place in the mall since I was already there and he said he couldn't help me without purchasing a new screen for over $200. I drove up to Airlink, and even though Andrew and Minh were busy, they chatted with me and poked around with my phone right then. Andrew even flattered me by saying he had heard about my business :) They gave me a diagnosis on a potential fix that would cost just $30 (!!!). Minh opened it up and did some magic, and the screen appeared to come back to life. The phone started acting up again though, and Andrew decided that the solution was to bring in an HDMI cable and adapter from home to get my files out for me tomorrow. My phone started magically working just fine a couple hours ago, I'm sure Minh's fiddling helped. They didn't charge me anything today, so I'm bringing them some gift certificates tomorrow. They could have very easily just taken the phone, made a work order, gotten to it when they could, and charged me at minimum a diagnosis fee. Instead they took the time seeing the distress I was in over needing the files, to do what they knew might just be a 2-minute, no-cost fix, and that may have been what saved my phone, It certainly saved me $130! Love this place! I went all around trying to get my cell phone fixed at the regular stores, to no avail, when someone searched the back of their brain and came up with their name. For a reasonable fee they fixed my Blackberry cell phone. I hate to throw out something that is perfectly fine and just needs a simple fix, which is what regular cell phone companies seem to want you to do. A couple of months later, when I was having problems again, and it was after their 30 day warranty on their service, they kindly fixed it again for free! Even though he couldn't fix it(phone is older so no parts could be ordered for it)he didn't charge me for the work he did. If he can't fix it he won't charge how Amazing is that! Minh was great and friendly to work with. My Lumina 1020 fell off my bicycle and skidded 40 feet down the road. I thought it would need just glass replacement. Last time Gadget Fix did if for $200, but for some reason the back lighting didn't align and the touch screen never worked as well after. Anyhow, Minh recommended replacing glass, touch screen, and backlighting for $150. Not only did it cost less, but more was replaced and I got a loaner while he waited for parts to arrive. Dug up a lost/old yelp account to post my only/first review: I replaced my LG G3's cracked screen on my own but I couldn't get it to turn back on after, and I couldn't figure out why. Unfortunately, neither could Minh, but he spent several hours of his time exploring potential fixes-- trying new components, a new screen, everything-- and didn't charge me a dime when he eventually threw in the towel.
