My girlfriend and I have made it our mission to support the last remaining lesbian spaces & so of course we had to check out Boycott Bar while we were in Phoenix for the weekend. The place was lively and the music was great. So many of our favorite throwbacks and some newer Top 40 was played on Saturday night. The owner of the bar was walking around, making sure everyone was okay & having a nice night. We were able to talk to her for a minute and express our gratitude for keeping lesbian spaces open. People of all ages were in the bar and everyone seemed to be having a great time. It did not feel cliquey like some other gay and lesbian bars sometimes seem to feel. We were at Melrose street fair and our grandkids saw the jump house outside Boycott and by the time we got there it was being deflated-the person in charge saw how disappointed the kids were and yelled to fire it up-they didn't need to do that, but how nice. I honestly can't remember having more fun (I'm a straight male, fwiw) than i had here last night for drinks and karaoke. The owner is one of the coolest, most authentic people I've ever met -- and i know a lot of cool effing people! -- and everyone I met there was on that same level. Not to mention that there were at least 5 people singing karaoke who were legitimately better vocalists than Taylor Swift! Came in from out of town and was googling places to go out. Decided to go to Boycott and it ended up being one of the highlights of our trip! The DJ at Starmarz was great. He brought an extremely great energy to what seemed like a lifeless bar. The bad : The drinks were not great....I spent 100$ on water downed drinks Not a single buzz. My tequila didn't taste like tequila lol... also hold the water why so much water in my drink... One bartender was nice I asked her for a strong drink and she gave me a strong drink. I don't remember her name but she had a cute referee getup ..I probably won't comeback for the drinks but I will come back when I want to do something low key with my friends. The bar/club was empty for a Friday night, probably due to rain.... I counted 23 people. But There is a Very diverse group of people. Which is nice. And they loved to dance! The staff was friendly too. Bathrooms were clean. There is ample seating. Drinks are about 7-8 bucks a piece depending on what you're getting ..cover was free. Nice place to kick back with friends. This bar is killing it! Exceptional service, great atmosphere, great neighborhood bar! Highly recommended! The employees are very helpful, attentive and caring. I resisted going for a while because I heard negative things, I moved into the area and it's walking distance so I checked it out. At first, my friend and I thought we were going to R Lounge. We're from Chicago, so we didn't know that it was rebranded. We went to Boycott bar on Friday around midnight. There was only like 3 people at the bar. No cover. They were only accepting cash since their credit card machine wasn't working. They did have an ATM machine in the back that you can use. Music was okay. We decided to give it one more try the next day on Saturday. The place had more than 20 people which I thought was a good sign that Saturday is probably their busy night. No cover. We saw online that the music was top 40 latin music. When we came in they were playing cupid shuffle, 2000s hip/hop, etc. I had to ask the DJ to play cumbia. The credit card machine was still broken at bar registers which was disappointing. read more

Moved in the area when all bars were closed due to covid. They have a great, friendly, and diverse staff. This was the first bar I went to when restrictions where eased. They have done a great job to meet CDC guidelines; and Arizona Heath guidelines. Staff are always wearing masks when working and they enforce guest to do so when leaving there seat (to use the bathroom or walk outside to smoke). read more

I should have posted this review awhile ago... I happened upon my drink receipt in a to do folder (yes...I'm a chronic procrastinator...). Back in 2017 I was visiting Phoenix. I decided to explore Phoenix LGBTQ bars using mass transit and happened upon the Boycott Bar. It was an off night. It was just me, Audrey, the bartender and one other client. Audrey and I had a great conversation, though we were interrupted occasionally by the other patron, who had clearly downed a few too many alcoholic beverages... Audrey caringly dealt with client #2, making sure he had a taxi safely transport him home. I mentioned the next bar I was headed towards, and Audrey kindly offered to drive me there rather than endure another stint on light rail! Such gracious hospitality! I will surely be back when I'm next in Phoenix! read more

I just wanted to sincerely thank you for the way you and your staff are handling the current CDC protocol/restrictions. Your bar and Chris Bianco's restaurants are the only place in Phoenix I feel comfortable enough to sit down inside. I recently came to the end of my limit with the quarantine/crisis/pandemic and have started getting out a bit. I am in no way paranoid but also understand that with awareness, diligence and consistency the risk can be managed. Your crew is firing on all cylinders. I was really disappointed by this bar tonight. I'm visiting from out of town and was very excited to check out this bar as a queer person of color. The vibe was not friendly. It was the end of the night and we were hoping to join in a couple songs and sing some karaoke before they closed. They let us in, but went through my purse and removed my water. They also didn't have the song we wanted after saying they "pretty much have everything." (But that's understandable, it happens). But then the kicker was they came to us and asked if we wanted to get a drink. Seeing as though they were about to close and we'd had some drinks at other bars earlier, we opted not to. We were then told, "We don't charge a cover but one of our rules is you're required to buy a drink." So we left. That sounded like a load of crap. And if it hadn't been the end of the night, we would've been more comfortable purchasing one. I had heard so many good things about this bar and I'm sad my experience was not positive. read more
