This was the final stop of my Arizona trip, and I am glad it was. It was chill and slow pace when I came around 5:30 pm New Year's Day. There were some handsome men and some Pup's hanging around. I was only here for an hour, but I very much felt that the vibe was close enough to my favorite bar at home in Los Angeles. I have been told that this bar is the leather and kink bar of the city. I didn't realize that this place had a cute little patio until I was just about ready to leave. The bartender was nice too. He would periodically come over and check to see if we needed refills. I wish I was able to see this bar on a weekend night. Parking could be a little hard if you come during a time when a lot of patrons might be visiting. Wasn't busy when I went as it was a scorching hot weeknight in Phoenix. But I appreciated the cheap drinks and friendly crowd. Met and chatted with some cool people. Also cool that they allow guys to "play" in certain areas, like old school gay bars. read more

Parking is limited, and the bar appears to have a lousy relationship with CVS and Dominos, resulting in the towing of patrons' vehicles. Service is slow at the bar and inconsistent. Over the years, this bar has deteriorated, along with its service. Other bars are more LGBTQ-oriented, so choose wisely when you go here. read more

I thought this place was accepting of everybody turns out they hate women. My friend group of 4 women came in for Karaoke night. When we walked in we were the ONLY women in the bar. We've been to Anvil before for Karaoke and have always had a great time. This last time we went we were discriminated against due to being women. Apparently cheering on other fellow karaoke goers is against the rules and you will be scolded. We were yelled at by the bar tender stating we were too loud and "everybody" was complaining. When we went to the bar tender to rectify the situation as we had no malice intended, we were scolded even more. This came to a surprise to us as we had had so many other Anvil goers come up to us and advise they appreciated our support. We will NEVER be coming back to Anvil as clearly it is a sexist misogynistic cult. read more

Anvil is our favorite gay bar in Phoenix, maybe even overall? We don't go out a lot, and at first glance, you might not think this would be the bar we would feel at home in. But we do, and that's what we love. It may be the "Denim and Leather" bar here in Phoenix and typically draw patrons amongst or around the leather, pup/handler, kink and fetish communities (which we really are not apart of) but Anvil is welcome to all and certainly doesn't make you feel like you aren't welcome. It's a smaller bar, which we love, and you always see and meet and chat with a variety of people here. And the bartenders are just the sweetest, nicest guys - I love em! I'd call it a neighborhood bar that leans toward leather. I really don't go to bars too often, but this is usually my first choice. Partly because it's close enough that I could crawl home if I had to, but mainly because the bartenders are friendly and most of the patrons are too if you don't scare them first. ;-) I especially like "undie Mondays", but Otherdays are good too. Finally am going to visit the Anvil bar within next few weeks. Been waiting for 6 months and will pass thru town and stop for a beer. Probably a weekday. I leave the night time for the younger crowd. Have been to leather bars (no bad experiences) many many years ago but have been off the grid for awhile Am a senior submissive type so am cautious. A little bit shy initially, nervous and anxious. An just looking to socialize and friendship to start with. May seem a little bit naive and gullible. Some say I am easily persuadable on my best intersts. What an awesome place! Bartenders extremely friendly, fast and reliable service. Very clean inside and out. Regular patrons are friendly to newbies like myself and there are far less attitudes than most places. Sunday is beer bust with $3 pitchers. Karaoke every Thursday night starting at 9. Great crowd! What a very interesting gay bar! Not too noticeable from the street but they do have a private parking lots that is well lit. Just look for the short building underneath the giant billboard. Inside is a little bit tight but also as open as can be. Place also seem to clean and was ready for a night of fun with monitors displaying fun things that cater to the crowd there. They also had a stage as well as a cage in the back! I would like to see what happens if that place on some nights ;-) I would try it again and hopefully be able to have a more interesting experience next time. read more

Friendly dumpy leather/Levi watering hole. Music is really good and they have the delectable daddy strippers on the weekends. Staff is friendly however one of the things I noticed was that they charged my friend and I different prices for the same drink with same liquor. I found that odd. Mind you I was charged the cheaper price so I'm assuming someone wanted to ring my bell, but gladly left after about a couple hours. Also drinks are small and seem watered down. The men who come here are without attitude so that's a big plus. Otherwise nothing stands out. read more

My partner and myself decided to check out the Anvil this Friday night, after waiting in line for 15 minutes to get a drink with my partner the bartender immediately accused me of cutting in line. my partner told him that I was with him but he still insisted that I cut in line. He did service but there was nothing friendly about this bartender, I didn't recognize this bartender but it was very disappointing because I have had good experiences other times I have been at the Anvil. read more

OK, aso after a full year of being off due to COVID this place has done nothing to improve itself - and there are MAJOR things that were needed. Their most recent event - "Gear Night" - illustrates this perfectly. Upon entering the building, I had to stop immediately. There was nowhere to go. Why, you ask? Because they STILL only have two bartenders on their party nights and no definitive lines for people to wait. Every time I would gain a step some idiot would go the people in front of me and just act like they had been there the whole time. The bartenders are the slowest people ever to be allowed outside, let alone employed. It took 90 minutes to get a drink. People sit bare-butt on the stools and walk around with their junk exposed. They allow public sex anywhere in the bar. I am pretty sure that is unsanitary - even without COVID. It is so gross there. I will never return to this place ever again. They need a completely new staff, new management, more than two bartenders on club nights and for God's sake move the lines away from the front doors! It is not only inconvenient but it is a fire hazard! read more

I was here yesterday and this place is a dump. The bathroom is disgusting and the lock is broken on one of the stalls. So if you were to ever have a #2 emergency you would have to hold the door shut yourself...to put it lightly. I ordered a drink from the bartender and he was not very friendly. The other bartenders seemed very aloof as well. They don't make conversation with anyone new. I didn't feel welcome like I do at places like Stacy's or Nu-Towne. Music was not bad, I'll give them that. Parking was not bad. The clientele here is um.....not that great either. NO attractive men whatsoever. I spent all my time there watching and wishing that at least ONE guy would look like the big butch men that were being shown on the left TV monitor. I thought this place would be full of hunky bears and muscle dudes but it's anything but. So one star for the music and one for the hot dudes being shown on TV. That's it.
