What I ended up doing this past Wednesday night, me and my work colleagues took steps to unwind. Alcohol in moderation is always key! $5 beer specials on tap! Spectrum Medical was also on site offering free testing, prevention kits and free swag! My eye was on a new water bottle! No cover charge on weekdays, there's always a cover on weekends. But who cares, it's Charlie's! You don't have to dress in Cowboy Western Attire because it's super casual. Less is more! And you never know who will be performing, so bring your dollar bills, enjoy, and be happy!

Line dancing at Charlie's Phoenix on Thursdays and Saturdays has quickly become the highlight of my week. The energy, fun, and sense of community keep me coming back every time. When I first started, I had zero line dancing experience and was pretty nervous, but the free lessons are incredibly helpful. The instructors make everything feel approachable and fun. After just a few months, I'm now able to jump in and dance to many of the songs, which feels like such a win. What really makes Charlie's special, though, is the people. The veteran line dancers are welcoming, encouraging, and genuinely happy to help newcomers feel included. It never feels intimidating, just supportive and fun. I'm grateful that Charlie's has introduced me to an amazing new group of friends, and the venue itself couldn't be better for it. I also want to add that the drinks are reasonably priced and some nights theres also tacos. read more

Probably the funnest and most popular gay bar in Phoenix. Really great crowd, good music and several dancers. They have plenty of seating and indoor and outdoor dance floors, although these get really hot in the summer months. There is a $10 cover charge for women, but they except cards and the drinks are cheap and strong! read more

I've been here twice while visiting the area. Huge place with multiple bars and a lot of entertainment. The drag shows are really good and last a long time. The drinks were really good and they have a lot of events going on every day of the week. The taco stand onsite is really good! I will definitely be back when I'm in town again. read more

Do not visit this place if you are a woman. I was wrongfully kicked out last night by two bouncers inside the club. I had only been in Charlie's for about 30 minutes and was waiting to use the women's restroom. While waiting, I met another woman, and we decided to share a stall. A bouncer was yelling at people in the restroom, urging them to hurry up. He was standing with one foot inside the women's restroom and one foot outside. One woman inside the restroom yelled back, explaining that we were using the facilities. The bouncer felt threatened by this and decided to kick us both out. I didn't say a word during the whole incident and was completely confused when I stepped out of the stall, only to find him trying to remove me from the club. I am upset because I paid to get inside, and then I was wrongfully kicked out because a bouncer felt verbally threatened by women in the restroom. read more

Approaching 2am and my windows are still shaking from the noise level at this place. My neighborhood isn't even the closest one to them. Absolutely disrespectful. They don't follow Phoenix ordinances. They're a bar yet open until 4am? Alcohol is cut off at 2am so what is going on with this place? They need to be investigated. read more

Need new strippers. The old ones are getting boring. Need a couple of strippers 21-25. Pride weekend was boring and not worth the $20 to get in. The drink prices were outlandish. I would have had cocktail servers out and about. Bartenders/ Drag Queens unfriendly from other Charlie's, they brought in. The food was amazing, but needed more options in trucks. As advertised. read more

The bouncer squeezed my crotch so hard it was sore the rest of the night. Then a security twink came and grabbed me by my neck all rough and told me I had to leave bc I had not bought a drink yet. I was only there about 20 minutes I usually dance then drink but they said there was a line outside and hurried me through the door. This was on 08/30/25 at about 1am Saturday night. I had only heard good things about this place but I'm never coming back. Awful experience. Now that I'm looking at the other reviews it's clear this place is for gay men and STRAIGHT COUPLES ONLY. DO NOT COME HERE ALONE YOU WILL BE SEXUALLY ASSAULTED BY THE STAFF THEN FORCED TO LEAVE. awful awful place way to be every awful stereotype about gay men. i hope alienating and sexually assaulting people feels good. read more

Food is top notch and authentic. Everything is made fresh for you and also open late. Service is superb, but if you're and there and you Don't meet Jesse then you weren't there. He works so hard I thought he was the owner. Being from the east this spot gives me beach vibes with no beach. All walks of life are welcome... just I told you so. read more

Disappointing Experience After High Expectations We visited this business after it was recommended by one of their employees, so we were genuinely excited to check it out. As soon as we arrived, our group went straight to the restroom. One person in our party had a beer in hand--not realizing it was an issue, since we're from Louisiana where open containers are allowed in many places. Instead of politely letting us know their policy or even pointing out a trash can, the bartender immediately told him to "get out." No explanation, no warning--just kicked him out. When I came out of the restroom and asked what was going on, I was told, "He had an open container. We're not serving him." I asked if anyone had explained the rules--because again, we're from out of state and didn't know--and was met with a shrug. That's when I said, "Now it makes sense why the bar is completely empty." We totally understand policies, but there's a respectful way to handle things. First impressions matter, and in this case, it felt more like a punishment than a welcome. I hope the owners or management address how guests--especially out-of-towners--are treated. One bad encounter can turn away a lot of good people. read more

it's just to be fun, now I feel discriminated just for being a girl, I got charged $10.00 on Sunday afternoon, I asked if there is anything going on?? and the guy at the bar, said this is a Man's bar, I found out only Females got charged on weekends, even if there is nothing going on .. for now on my friend and I we can go to a please everyone is welcome ‍, like I said .. it's just to be fun, now just a few ppl on sundays. read more

Absolute horrible time there as a female, like obviously the owner has mommy or women issues because their mentality towards wombman are uncalled for, you know you come from a wombmans womb right?? Disrespectful place with good tacos from the food truck outside, the atmosphere is for gay men only. No real accommodations for women, and a guy came out the bar and told me I should off myself because I parked in a handicap parking spot being 7.5 months pregnant. Such a cute and fun spot! I loved all the cowboy hats the workers had! Such good dance music! And the outside area is attached to a Mexican place so u can order food from the bar area! Really good and cheap drinks and large variety! There were workers walking around with trays of $1 Jell-O shots too! Full of beautiful and friendly people! read more

This bar is so fun. Me and my friends love to dance. We came here for the first time and had a freaking blast. The energy was high. Everyone was dancing and just enjoying themselves having a good time. The crowd was friendly. Everyone was one on the same page just there to dance and have fun. Phoenix doesn't have an amazing club scene so to find this place was a score. I'll be back for sure. read more

This place kicked me and my friend in a wheelchair out due to being "too drunk" when we'd only been there for an hour with 2 drinks each on pride weekend. I could easily point to 10-20 others getting severely more intoxicated than us. They clearly just needed some extra leg room around the bar. This was my first ever experience here at Charlie's and I will NEVER be coming back again after dealing with such an ableist and inconsiderate environment. read more

This has to be the most lively spot I visited while I was in Phoenix. During my two visits in Arizona, I saw a couple of drag performances and more people dancing in this venue compared to others. I also enjoy that they sell food here for all the drunk people who might need some carbs. During my 2nd time here, there was a tall bartender who was really rude to me. I am unsure why, but it just seemed odd to me. I liked the music here. There were also some gogo dancers, but I can tell that half of the gogo's were gay baiters. I'd prefer to give my tips and money to persons who are actually queer that are working in a queer establishment. Either way, I enjoyed my time here. read more

I've been going to Charlies for awhile now and I love it, but my last two experiences there got me a little upset. We were there a few weeks ago and a friend of ours ended up tripping and stumbling. He was a little drunk yes, but bro is also just clumsy. Well one of the staff saw this and immediatelly kicked our whole group of 8 people out. This was embarassing since we recommended this place for it's good and welcoming vibes. It was heartbreaking but we understood and left. Now last night we go right. And mind you it's 100 degrees out. We give the dudes our ID's and they clear us to go in. One of the girls grabbed a water from a literal bucket of waters at the entrace, because again, ITS 100 DEGREES OUT, and she goes inside. The girls pay the entry fee and then the staff member asks where we got the water. The girl is honest and says she just grabbed it from the bucket and the staff member then refuses to let her in. Just would not budge because she grabbed a water. We even tried to give it back and it wasnt even opened and the guy just kept saying "it's a firm no". We talked with the ID guy and he was like wtf that's stupid but there was nothing he could do about it. So they basically took our money and then wouldnt let us in. Again I love Charlies, I'm a big advocate of treating the staff there kindly and with respect, but these last 2 experiences were extremely disheartening. It's really frustrating paying for ubers and all that just to get kicked out. Hope you guys can do better in the future. Edit: I've read some of the other reviews now, seems like a major employee issue going on. I understand the need to be safe and that's stressful, but it seems like everytime there's a situation they just resort to just kicking people out instead of just telling people to calm down or whatever. Most people are understanding if you just talk to them. You're just gonna keep getting frustrated customers at this rate. Please stop escalating issues. Take some deescalation classes or something. read more

Recently moved from LA to AZ wanted to check out a gay bar so decided to visit Charlie's unfortunately this was not it to the outdated music and to the treating females differently apparently if u are a female they charge 10$ well men get in for free which is wild to me because u are a lgbtq community bar make it make sense and the service at the bar was horrible u don't get no service or noticed unless u are male definitely won't be back. But gotta say it's a big bar and the concept is cool with the whole cowboy theme but they gotta do better for being a lgbtq bar . read more

The food, service and ambiance was TOP TIER @ Charlie's! I went for my birthday in July!!!! Y'all this place was everything lol the bartenders were the bomb, the music gave me nonstop vibes and the people (patrons and employees) were just a vibe! This is the only photo I took from that night... one thing I can say is: My super queer self and all my gay and straight friends had an absolute blast at Charlie's!! Thanks y'all ! This establishment has NO sense of being neighborly! On the weekends the owners and management allow this overly crowded bar to blast their PA system and exceptionally loud music to the point that it is just loud, obnoxious, electronic noise four city blocks away. They pump up their crowds to the point that you hear high pitched screaming from them at the same distance. I do not have a problem with people having a great time at a night club but that does not give you the right to disrupt the tranquillity of the four surrounding neighborhoods. Wonder if the cretans who own and run it will begin to respect their neighbors, the women, children, and men who are trying to live comfortably in their own homes and even try to get their children to sleep in a decent hour without having to put up with all that noise or is it going to take getting petitioned in the four neighborhoods to get the City of Phoenix to shut down one of the few nightclubs that caters to the particular group of people that go there. I went here for the drag show and I wasn't disappointed! This club is huge and has two areas to party in. There's bartenders scattered throughout the place for convenience to get a drink. The bar tenders were super friendly and when they ran out of cider at the station I went to, they were able to make some great alternative recommendations! They weren't super expensive either which is a plus. The club was super chill and relaxing. They have a huge parking lot which isn't big enough unfortunately so the parking spills into the other businesses next door but I will say they have a night attendant out in the parking lot that walks the area to make sure things are good and taken care of! For men there's no cover and for women there's a $7 cover fee. Music was great and the DJs really knew how to keep the crowd going. My only complaint is the small and limited amount of bathrooms for women. Three stalls for a super busy night made for long lines! However I wouldn't let that stop me from coming back here to have fun and party! read more

Both bingo hostesses made my 1st ever lgbtq bingo night so much fun! Piper had it goin on & she was on top, big time!! ;) I loooooved their jazzed up bingo twist! Super creative & fun!! U gotta go here & experience it for yourself! Just show up on a bingo night, grab some bingo cards & pens at the stage area, and play on playa!! The music was bangin as well! And, they had a 2 for 1 special on drinks this Tuesday. I played with like 10 bingo cards each round & they even gave everyone extra rounds with the same bingo cards & I still couldn't come up with a single win! I guess bingo's just not my thing...dang...I still had a great time; thanks to the awesome hostesses & Dj! Keep rockin' it y'all!! read more

I moved acroos the street from here recently, I went in for a HH drink and to check the place out. I had visited here once back in the 90's I believe. Routy place back then with the boys dancing on the tables and all. It doesn't seem to have changed much but it looks clean and the doorman and bartender were very polite. PS, pretty sure the table dancers still dance there...according to the posters anyway. Have fun!!! read more

Wow! This place knows how to throw a party. The entire staff is professional and fun to be around. I absolutely LOVE the food trucks which are a real treat after a night of partying. I was super impressed with how much care they put into decorating and prepping for events. Performances are TOP notch and exciting. Bartenders are polite and put effort into their drinks which means a lot. Completely blown away by the hospitality and cleanliness, how do they do it?! Getting there: Located on camelback rd closer to 7th. They have a big parking lot, but it fills up fast. Experience: I was in town visiting a friend and his friends wanted to come here. This is one of the few gay bars that requires ladies to pay a cover. The cover is small, I think like $7. The vibes here were fun. The music was good. The inside is really dark whether its daytime or night. The outdoor patio in the back is pretty big and spacious, but can get crowded and hot outside. The drinks were relatively cheap. read more

Hello my Fellow Yelp Followers and awesome SUMMER TRAVELERS. Phoenix is a great city!!!!! If you take Yelp reviews seriously like we all do, then read the dozens of "1 STAR" reviews that former Phoenix Charlie's customers have written about this place. If you value your time and money, listen and go to other establishments for your GLBT dollars. Before I posted this review, I was at Charlies Phoenix last night, and I agree completely with all the reviews below: "i have not been a huge fan of charlies for a while....for some reason it always smells like vomit....about 8 months ago my car was broken into they stole a purse out of the front floor board, the funny thing is they had police walking the parking lot...then 1 had another car broken into this time they stole a caboodle which had make up in it and a rhinestoned mask...when we went inside and asked them to call the police, they said they couldn't and gave us the number to do it ourselves. great customer service...i think not!!! then we were out side and the bar manager came out and said they have video of the whole parking lot and we can get a copy of it great!!! oh but but we have to wait till thursday...now i hate the bar" ROBERT M - PHOENIX "Went there last night since I have MLK day off. I asked about beer specials that they normally have on Sunday nights.Bartender said there were not any that night. Wow, what a slap in the face.They took advantage of the long weekend and decided they would make more money if they did not have their usual specials. This is bad KARMA! Thursday Nights at Charlie's are known for their 2-4-1 drink specials, with this being said it gets very packed/busy. There was no security, bouncer, police, nothing. They only do this on the weekend. MY SAFETY WAS IN DANGER AT THIS BAR MULTIPLE TIMES THROUGHOUT THE NIGHT . I was first approached by a man who was telling me how beautiful I am, and he was being very sweet. I assumed he was gay, so I was taking all his compliments. By the way, I was waiting in line with my friends at the bathroom when he randomly approached us. Suddenly all of the compliments turned dark, and creepy. He told me that he bets "I'm good in bed" and to stick out my tongue. I immediately told him I felt uncomfortable and walked away. This man kept trying to yell and get my attention all night, but I saw him approach a different group of women doing the same thing, trying to get them to dance and take them home. My friend that is in drag has just told me after this happened, that active human traffickers come to this bar and that I need to be careful. So I was already on edge all night . (This is a gay bar owned by men, where mostly gay men go, so why is this man even approaching random women and trying to pull the same scheme with them all?) THIS ISNT EVEN THE WORST PART!!! My friends and I were celebrating my birthday, so we had multiple drinks. I was trying to enjoy myself, but already felt like I was being watched by the first man. I recently visited Charlie's and unfortunately had a disappointing experience that I feel compelled to share. As a tourist, I was excited to enjoy the atmosphere, but upon arrival, I was denied entry simply because I did not have my passport on me. Instead, I presented my National ID, which is a government-issued form of identification, but the staff refused to accept it. It's disheartening to see such a lack of understanding regarding identification requirements, especially in a place that welcomes international visitors. The staff seemed uneducated about the importance of different forms of government-issued ID and insisted that only American IDs or passports were acceptable. This is not only unreasonable but also discriminatory, as it alienates tourists who may not carry their passports at all times, particularly when they are out for an evening. To make matters worse, there were even discussions with the police present, and the response remained the same - a rigid adherence to their misguided rules. This left me feeling unwelcome and frustrated, as it was clear that the staff lacked knowledge about international identification standards and the realities that come with being a traveler in a foreign country. I believe the owner of Charlie's needs to take action to educate their staff on these matters. It's crucial for any establishment in the hospitality industry to be more accommodating and informed, particularly when it comes to recognizing the diverse backgrounds of their clientele. Overall, my experience was disappointing, and I felt a strong sense of discrimination rather than the acceptance and celebration of diversity that such venues should embody. Misogynistic AND Transphobic. Women, lesbians, bi,trans, intersexed, pan, etc don't spend your money with a misogynistic business. Women get charged even if you identify as lesbian, bisexual, pansexual, omnisexual, etc, etc. If you are a woman you have better odds hooking up with a gay man. They will completely IGNORE YOU and serve men first even if you have been waiting for over 30min. ALLy female friends that used to go there hate the place. As a transwoman, I got treated sooo poorly that I wanted cry because of how mad they made me feel. I work at a bar, and if I were to treat my customers like that, I get fired on the spot. No, I was not drunk. I stopped drinking but I wanted to be with my gay roommates. Time and time again, their constant moto is misogyny. For claiming to be an LGBTQ+ bar THEY SURELY ARE "G" ONLY and screw the rest. I'd rather go to bunkhouse, boycott, bar1, the Rock, Sazerac, or C7th than going to thar place ever again. Ok, I don't even know where to begin. I have been to Charlie's MULTIPLE times now and am completely baffled by their blatant discriminatory policies. And, I do believe they are "policies" because I've witnessed them implemented on several occasions by multiple white male employees. Not only do they ONLY charge a cover for women to get in, it's also discretionary. So, it seems that whomever is collecting the door fee is just letting any dude who presents as male in the door, but if he decides that you don't look male enough for him he'll charge you. Wtf???? What year is this? What city??? Transphobic, racist, sexist....this place has a lawsuit just waiting happen. Oh, also, weak asf drinks unless you're a hot white guy. The draw is really just being queer and having a limited amount of places to go and dance at, but with the amount of straight people also frequenting this place, it's so not worth supporting such a bigoted business. Horrrrible!!!!! Last night I was at Charlies and I was assaulted by a male customer we both bumped into eachother by accident he then grabbed my arm and wrist and twisted it!! My wrist is swallon. Used to be a gay bar but now it is a straight bar for young gay Latin men and all their girlfriends to come there's more girls there than there ever is men and if you're totally into young Latin boys then go but if you're not then this place isn't for you. It's a bunch of Millennials acting inappropriately because they weren't raised properly too drunk screaming fighting it's a total cluster fuk. I've been in New York La San Francisco Chicago and this is the worst bar I've ever been to that's been classified as a gay bar awful awful awful there's no diversity just a bunch of drunken messes who don't know how to behave , totally gross boo Charlie's for not being a part of the gay community at all anymore! I parked in the back one time to get some tacos, not even going to this club but as we go to the car we heard some weird assss noises. Told my husband there's probably a drunk guy taking a piss or something. We turned on our truck and the lights came up and there was 3 guys having a freaking orgy. One sucking and jacking someone off. It has to be one of the grossest things i have ever seen on my life. The taco place is a place where people also take their kids to get food. You would think there would be security all around this place making sure shit like this doesn't happen! These dudes gave no fucks that the lights came on either. They proceeded to do their thing. WHAT A DISAPPOINTMENT Haven't been to Charlie's for about 2 years, decided to take friends visiting from out of town. What the hell happened? It was a very sketchy looking crowd, we actually felt unsafe. Maybe it has to do with the area the bar is located in ? The bathrooms have been vandalized, it's lost it's magic it used to have. They should be stripped of the name Charlie's A country western bar. They are anything but it. Maybe just call yourselves Karamba's 2. Where do I begin! The staff seriously needs to be trained on proper Customer Service Skills because they are all way to into themselves. If your not a regular good luck on getting a drink or even the right drink at that. Its like an under aged house party with some newly out queen as the hostess. This place gets worse every time I go. I went last Saturday and lo and behold what do I see in the parking lot? I see used condoms strewn all over. I smell marijuana everywhere. Trash everywhere. I see hoodrats and thugs hanging around. The parking there is horrible. If you do manage to find a space good luck because your car might be hit or vandalized. I normally see police there but this last time there were none. Then I go inside and it's gross. The people are totally unfriendly. Bartenders are rude. I left after 10 minutes. I have been coming to Charlie's for years and today I have experience racism from pussy pussy lahoot . It was our friends birthday and we were drinking in a corner and she told us to get out of her way and we didn't belong at Charlies. She looked every intoxicated so we thought we would leave it alone. Than again before her show she came by again. And told us to leave . Before its transformation to accommodate the light rail, Charlie's used to be a dingy den of dominate men, cowboys, crazy drag queens and drunks falling over themselves. It's nice to see so little has changed, with the newer layout. So, one has to take Charlie's at face value. The drinks are cheap, the patrons range from the "I'm too drunk to care what we do tonight just buy me another drink and take me back to your place" to the "I'm too vain to acknowledge you but you can still buy me a drink just don't expect me to go home with you." Nr. 1 If you want strong drinks and a non judgmental crowd this is the place to go...if you are expecting some high end swanky club....wrong place to go. Nr. 2 If you want to have fun no matter which side your boat floats on... great place to go, if you are trying to be a stick in the mud... wrong place to go. and last the best taco's and carniasada in the world is served at the little taco stand out front! hmmm. I go for the pitchers. They don't serve pitchers on certain special days (afraid of fights I am told). Country music, that is what they are... a gay country bar. Dancing, OMG Get over the line dancing! It's fun to watch maybe at a wedding or barmitzva! Dark and seedy is ok for a gay bar, being rude to women is not. I see it a lot! A buck is a buck. Charlies may think they will be around for a while. Not ... Oh yes CHARLIES is a franchise, there is one in Las Vegas. Micki dees of gay bars. But don't take my word for it. Go in and see. read more
