I decided to try using crates instead of boxes for my last move and I don't think I will ever go back to boxes again. The crates provided were sturdy and clean. The communication with Doran was seamless and professional. They even delivered the crates earlier so I could start packing. The pick up was also smooth. I had got done unpacking faster than expected and they picked it up a whole week earlier. I had gotten the 35 crate package(1 bedroom package). I was about 10 crates short just because of the amount of stuff I had. So if you think you need crates, always get 10 more. It just helps. This is the best thing to ever happen to moving in the history of moving in Boston ever ever ever. Say goodbye to tracking down boxes from packies or grocery stores...or having to buy them from moving truck companies...and say HELLO to crate boxes....because it will seriously make your moving lives easier. We rented 50 boxes and that was plenty for our @ BR apartment. With boxes, you also get labels and packing paper. The Box Save experience was user friendly from the get go-- from ordering boxes, to receiving them, to getting them picked up, communicating with Doran and Paul...no complaints, just compliments-- all wonderful. For us, they ended up not being able to pick up the boxes on the original pick up date but were clear we would not be charged extra for the extra days. In our case, the extra days was so much better because we were getting scared about not being done unpacking on time... Working with BoxSave was absolutely the right choice for our move! They were so friendly and communicative. And moving with reusable crates made our move far more efficient, faster, probably cheaper (given the ridiculous cost of moving boxes), and more environmentally conscious. One thing I loved: They don't mind if you leave the crates outdoors when you are done with them, so we were able to keep our newly-emptied crates on our backporch so they were out of the way as we finished unpacking. The only improvement I'd want was more of the labels! We found that having boxes labeled on 2-3 sides made it much easier for the movers, but they only gave us enough labels for one label per box. read more

It seems that with every move I undertake, I discover a new "moving hack" that will stay with me for every subsequent move. This time, it was using Box Save. It turns out that cardboard boxes are expensive... and wasteful... and unstable... and a pain in the neck to open back up when you realize that you didn't mean to pack something yet. I think that my Box Save package ended up costing about as much as buying an equivalent package of cardboard boxes from UPS, but with a laundry list of extra benefits. This doesn't even consider the cost savings if you hire movers that you're paying by the hour: because the boxes are so easy to manage, it took them much less time to move them to their truck than it would have if we had used cardboard. Delivery and pick-up are included and spaced 3 weeks apart by default. 3 weeks ended up being just the right amount of time to pack, move in, and unpack. Doran was kind enough to give us one extra day when we needed it to fully unpack too. As an aside, I am positive that if we had used cardboard boxes, most of the boxes would still be unopened and several would stay that way until the next time we move. The boxes are not too big or too small and stack sturdily on each other in your home and on moving trucks. It was easy to open boxes back up as needed. Since we weren't moving too far, we ended up doing a few trips back and forth with the same boxes to move the last few items that didn't fit originally. For reference, we were moving from an 800 square foot apartment and went with the 35 box package, but turns out we were bigger pack rats than we realized and should have gone with 50. I'm a "Box Save Evangelist" now and will be telling anyone who will listen about how great they are for moving. read more

My wife and I have moved twice in two years, first across country, and then again in town. After the first move we were amazed at the cost of cardboard boxes, and the waste. We gave them away, but I doubt they'd get more than one more use. So we tried out box save the second time around, and were really pleased. First of all, the delivery was extremely easy, and the fellow who delivered them was super nice. Packing them up and moving them around the apartment with the dolly was easy. Packing them was really easy. They boxes are robust so we could rest assured that they would offer our stuff inside some protection. They're big so they hold a lot of light stuff, or a good mix of light and heave stuff. We didn't feel like we had to stuff them with paper to just make them hold their shape when stacked. It did make us slightly less efficient packers, but that made the packing go quicker. Our movers liked them, I think, because they didn't have to worry about them breaking, and neither did we. Just remember, don't pack them too heavy. Finally, getting them picked up once we were done unpacking was super easy. These things are easy all the way around, and maybe even a little better for the environment. We're definitely going to use them again. read more

Top notch service and definitely made moving less of a headache! Definitely would go this route again in the future instead of buying or scavenging cardboard boxes. Scheduling box delivery and pickup online was quick and easy, and included evening and weekend times, which made my life easier since I didn't have to take time off of work to wait on delivery. Moved out of a 800 sq 2 bedroom and we used every single one of the 50 crates in the 2/3 bedroom package. Forced us to unpack our stuff before the crate pickup date, which was a plus for us (all my friends kept saying how impressed they were that we unpacked so quickly- you have up to three weeks to keep the crates, but I opted for less time). Email and phone communication from Box Save was great, and they arrived on time for delivery and pickup within the timeframe I chose. Also, the owners have integrity; my husband tried tip one of them (not realizing the man delivering the boxes was one of the co-owners) and he turned the cash down. This was easy. Paul drops off 65 boxes (good for 80 to 90 percent of a four bedroom house) with labels and carts. The boxes are clean and easy to pack. The uniform shape makes it easy to load them into a POD or a van. No wasted space and your mover is delighted. No need for cardboard boxes, tape and markers. Nothing gets broken because the Box Save crates do not break or burst open. Once you get to the destination, they are easy to unload and distribute around the house. Doran was picking up the boxes so we were on a schedule. The crates got unloaded over the course of a long weekend. No time for procrastination... although you can extend for a small fee if you need some extra time. Great guys. Great service. Great idea. The boxes are super sturdy retail shipping crates, and they do an excellent job of protecting your stuff. Not only that, but their customer service is beyond compare. I was supposed to close on a house back in October of last year, and knew I wanted to use BoxSave again as I loved the experience the first time. Long story short due to circumstances out of our control, closing did not happen on schedule, and here we are in February and I am still sitting on these boxes. You won't regret using BoxSave. I just used them for my move (July 2019) from a 4th floor walk-up in the North End to an apartment in JP and the service was so convenient. From the start, the folks at BoxSave were in communication with me to confirm what day and time they would drop off the boxes, what supplies I would need, and when they'd pick up the boxes. I had the boxes dropped off about a week before my move and picked up a couple weeks later at my new apartment. As you can see from the pictures, the boxes are ultra heavy duty (you can fill them as heavy as you want but try to be nice to your movers and space out heavy items). The boxes fit together when empty and stack together nicely when full. They provide you with box labels and dollies for moving the boxes around. The only thing I recommend is buying a pack of zip ties to provide extra security for the interlocking lids of the boxes (not necessary, but it's helpful). Moving is stressful. Do yourself a favor and get these boxes (and honestly it's cheaper than buying a bunch of wasteful packing supplies and disposable cardboard boxes). I won't move again without using this service. read more

Absolutely Recommend! Doran and Paul were very responsive and thorough in communication. We got boxes at the end of Jan (slower season) so they were able to drop boxes off on only a couple of days notice. The drop off was efficient. The movers were very happy to see moving crates, which by the way, arrived so clean! Again, since we reserved the boxes in the slow season we had additional time to use the boxes if needed. I scheduled this full time to allow ourselves to unpack at our own speed. However, we unpacked rather quickly and were ready to return the boxes after about 10 days. No problem! I emailed Paul and since he was in the area the next morning he picked them up. Again, easy peasy and with a smile. We will absolutely use Box Save if we move again within the area. A genius concept, almost flawlessly executed. I had never realized how frustrating it was when you find a mini-stapler that *should* go in the box with the desk supplies, but that box has already been taped up. Do you open it and restick the tape? Locate the roll of packing tape and tape it with new tape? Do you throw the stapler in another box, never to be reunited with the scissors and markers? UGH. This issue usually comes up repeatedly when packing--not so when you use the green boxes from Boxsave! My partner and I rented 35 boxes for our small 2 BR apartment (plus we had a handful of traditional boxes), and we were very pleased with our experience. I loved the label system. I loved that I didn't need to recycle or give away a ton of cardboard boxes right after moving. I loved that I was forced to unpack. I loved that I wasn't putting more junk out into the universe. I loved how timely and professional all communication with the company was. One concern I had prior to renting was the cleanliness of the boxes. The boxes were clean, though one box had a stale odor of cigarette smoke; we only noticed this when the box had been sitting in our car (neither of us smokes and we are both sensitive to the smell). Our belongings were not harmed (did not smell like smoke), and this issue did not seem to affect all of the boxes. Highly recommend using Box Save for anyone with an upcoming move. Life savers for sure! I heard about this company from a coworker who had recently moved and said how insanely easy they make city-living moves. We don't have a car in the city and thought previously about what a pain it would be to get a ride over to a home depot, buy all the cardboard boxes and then have to stealthily depose of them at a new neighbors who happens to have a construction size dumpster (knowing this would make us really popular). Ordering with Paul and Doran was stupid easy. You have the boxes typically for a 3 week period. We opted to have them dropped off 2 weeks prior to our move and picked up 1 week after. Communication around delivery and flexibility for times was fantastic and very punctual. Also, if you do want to extend your time frame or get more boxes (yup, ends up we have more stuff than we thought) it was no issue at all. Having the boxes picked up a week after moving also forced us to unpack and it's been very nice to feel settled in much faster than expected. The boxes are recycled plastic as well, so you can feel better about not killing however many trees you would have with those cardboard ones. Our movers also loved Box Save and the dollies they came with were greatly appreciated. We would gladly use Box Save again and would recommend to anyone moving! read more

I moved mid-Feb and had a great experience with Box Save. The team is super responsive, flexible, professional, and their rates are very competitive (I shopped around). Door-to-door drop-off and pick-up was a breeze. My only regret is that I didn't think of using rental crates for my previous household moves! I will never buy disposable cardboard boxes for moving again. I had a small 1 bed apartment and used the 20 crate package (I could've have probably gotten 30 - note to always overestimate!), and there is no way I could have bought 20 boxes/moving supplies for the same cost. Moving this way is so much easier, cheaper, cleaner, better for the environment, and super convenient (nothing to break-down/throw away or store). Nothing to assemble or tape. Doesn't matter how heavy they get. You just fill up the generously-sized durable crates, stack and push them on the provided wheeled dolly. The boxes themselves were large and durable, and my movers were very impressed at how much easier it made things for them. All of my belongings arrived at their new home safe and sound. I'd initially told Doran I didn't need them, since the movers would be bringing their own, but he suggested I might want them anyway to move the boxes around the apartment during packing and unpacking and he was right on. Everyone I've told about renting boxes from Box Save agrees - genius idea! My boyfriend and I rented 50 boxes for our move from one 2 bedroom apartment to the other (We did end up need some cardboard boxes but that's because we are book lovers and didn't want to overload the plastic bins). The entire ordering process on their website was a breeze. Doran contacted me a few days before the scheduled drop-off to confirm, and had all the boxes in our apartment (navigating some very narrow stairs) very quickly. We had the boxes and dollies for the standard three weeks and it made packing a breeze. As other reviewers mentioned, if you forget anything it's easy to simply open the box up and put the item inside, no cutting boxes open and re-taping. The labels were great and easy to use too. We did end up using zip ties on a few boxes with more fragile items just in case, but for the most part did not feel it was necessary. However, the thing I liked most was that it forced us to unpack. We've been in our new apartment for a week and a half and the only thing we have left to do is hang things on the walls - everything else is done! Pick up was also simple, Doran contacted me to make sure the time I had requested still worked and he moved the boxes back into their truck in no time. I can't stress enough how much better these boxes made our move. Saving the time going to get boxes and stuff them in the car then put them together and tape them was awesome. The fact that they stack perfectly was a huge space saver, both in the house and in the truck, and we threw everything that was odd shaped inside from plants to small lamps. Having less odds and ends was just easier, neater and the whole move was faster because of it plus no need to play Tetris while filing the truck and cars. The boxes are sturdy so there was no breaking, bending or tearing. The customer service was great and when I needed to change the time for pickup they accommodated me no problem. I have never moved with anything other than cardboard boxes so I had no idea what to expect. I reached out to boxsave via their website and their online system is pretty great. I was able to get a reciept / confirmation within a few minutes and I was off to the races. On the day of boxsave dropping off the crates I rented; I was surprised to recieve a phonecall. Yes, a live human. We chatted about the logistics and in-fact he was able to deliver them a few hours early. Once I recieved the crates, they were stacked on top of movable doilies with locks on the wheels. This made moving them around the house and into various rooms for packing a breeze! We received plenty of labels with our order as well. Overall the experience was extremely smooth, professional, and prompt. These guys have the winning combination down. After we moved our own crates to the new place, I called boxsave and spoke with Dorian to tell him we were unpacked. I was pleasantly surprised and grateful to see that he could come get the boxes that day, and about 1 hour later they were all gone! Overall, I would use boxsave again, and even recommended it to a few friends who helped me move. They were also grateful that these crates were stackable, easy to transport in a cargo van, durable and rugged. Best of all, I don't have to spend time breaking down cardboard boxes and cutting tape in the aftermath, all that mess is just...gone.
