Our move in September 2024 was a 1 star experience and this is why: 1. Only the foreman spoke English so I could not communicate with the other 2 men. 2. Our carpeted stairs or wood floors were not protected at all as boxes were moved out. 3. They had NO idea how to move antiques. NONE. 4. They damaged an armoire and told us numerous times that it would not survive the move. 5. In our new place, I had to ASK the men to put blankets down to protect the floors and they did it reluctantly and poorly. 5. All my boxes were labeled and signs were posted in English and Spanish and boxes and boxes were still put in the wrong areas. Think before you hire this company. Tony and his team were a joy to work with during our move. They were extremely prompt, giving us a call 5 minutes before our scheduled move to let us know they were here. They were professional, making sure they knew where we wanted our boxes to end up in our new space. The team took extra care to make sure our TV was well wrapped--they brought their own moving blankets and extra packing tape to reinforce some of our items. They charged us $185/hr for moving (3 hr minimum) + $185/hr for travel time (1 hr minimum). They have several discount options on their website that you can take advantage of, definitely call their number to see what deals they have available. I hired Five Star Movers based on their great reviews and assurances of professionalism, but my experience was far from what I expected. My scheduled move was supposed to start between 1-3 PM, but the movers did not arrive until 5 PM. This major delay caused us to lose access to the freight elevator, leading to unnecessary stress with my building's management, an added move in fee to move in and continue our elevator reservation, and a significantly longer, more difficult move. Despite numerous emails and calls requesting a resolution, I have been waiting over four months for a manager to contact me, as was promised multiple times. Instead, I was offered only $100 of the $262.50 I requested, which does not fully reflect the inconvenience, added moving time, and extra costs caused by their delay. More frustratingly, Five Star Movers continues to ignore my repeated requests for an actual conversation with management to resolve this fairly. At this point, I am beyond disappointed with the lack of accountability and customer service. I wanted to avoid posting a public complaint, but after being ignored for months, I feel like this is the only way to get a response. If I could give this company 0 stars I would. We used Five Star Movers to move from Cape Cod to Salt Lake City. After paying an arm and a leg, our furniture took 3.5 weeks to get there (which was within the limits of their contract, but still crazy). For 3.5 weeks, we had no communication of where our belongings were. Then, on Mother's Day, I got a call in the morning that the movers were an hour away (with no advance notice). I had to leave a Mother's Day brunch to go complete my move because the movers had to be in California the next day. The movers also left to smoke marijuana in the middle of the move...very professional! Then, once I actually received my belongings, there was THOUSANDS of dollars worth of damage. My couch and 2 TVs appeared to have sat in water and were completed ruined (probably worth about $3,500 total), my peloton was broken ($2,800 alone), multiple desks / nightstands / dressers were banged up, and so on. I filed an insurance claim (which I will admit I did not purchase additional insurance because I'd believed I was using reputable movers who were responsible and reliable) and received an offer to settle for less than $300. I've called Five Star Movers multiple times and have been promised a call back from the manager, which I've never received. I've asked to be transferred to the manager and he's always conveniently in a "meeting". This company is fraudulent, dishonest and negligent. DO NOT USE THEM FOR ANY MOVE. My husband and I are both attorneys and will be filing a claim with the BBB, the American Moving & Storage Association and seeking legal recourse in hopes that other people do not have to go through pain and suffering (and financial loss) that we have gone through. read more

Absolutely terrible experience. If I could give it a negative rating I would. When they fist packed up my apartment in Boston they tried to add charges after everything was already packed up. Only when I said "ok bring everything back up then" did they meet me on the middle with a fair resolution. I put my stuff in storage until I had an address in my new location and once I had a delivery address I tried for a few months to get on a truck but communication was poor. The last email I received after that said "I'm working on it I think I will load up over the weekend I will let you know as soon as finish loading up the semi." The next thing I heard was that the truck was 5 miles from the new city WITH MY FURNITURE ON IT! I had NO warning and was told that if I couldn't accept delivery I would be charged for holding the truck up. I pointed out that I wasn't even in the city and that it was 2pm on the Friday of a holiday weekend and I had no warning at all. I ended up having to scramble to get a storage unit in about 1 hour, have a friend take $3300 out of a bank to pay them on site because they refused to unload unless I had the cash. In addition, I had to pay $800 for an additional shuttle truck because I didn't have time find a place that could fit the big truck. As I communicated this all I got was defensive attitude and no accountability. Even as I was trying to work this out with them they simply stopped responding to my emails. I believe they have predatory pricing. They low ball quotes but will to all they can do add additional charges when they have the customer over a barrel. I will NEVER use this company again and hope no-one else does. It's sad that a company can stay in business with an attitude and communication like this. I kept getting reminders from this company to leave a review on their internal system, no thanks! tldr: RUN FAR FAR AWAY!!!! Wish we used Yelp. We were in a very busy time last summer (2022) as all sudden moves can be, and the broker combined with 5 Star movers made a fortune off us, probably over $10K profits for an approx $20K cross country move. That's not including tons of damage (stripped fasteners/threads) and lazy packing- they even wrapped up folding chairs without folding them!! And there's more: they ran out of room in the truck and we had a lot more goods, spending sleepless nights transporting valuable furniture and equipment to donation centers, in the short days before leaving. My guess is they use a strategy of bidding low, and when they arrive they immediately do a "pre-packing walkthrough" and carefully find some valuable things not explicitly part of the estimate, then announce that the estimate missed some key items, "do we want to pack everything or only what's on the estimate- different price by cubic feet for packing everything." I hired five star movers for a long distance move. The booking process was good and very professional. Beyond that my experience was terrible. All of my items were neatly packed in plastic crates. It was evident that many of them were rummaged through or spilled as there was dirt on my clothes and some things were missing.Many of the plastic crates were damaged badly. Beware, you get what you pay for with this terrible company. If you want all of your furniture completely ruined and the worst customer service I've ever experienced, then hire this company. Just look at my pictures to see how my furniture -- most of which was less than a year old -- arrived completed bashed and damaged. In addition to the furniture being damaged and every box (including those clearly marked "FRAGILE") being crushed, our shipment arrived WEEKS late. We lived in an empty house for almost a month. I was told that it would take 5-7 days to make the trip from point A to point B. After the the truck left, that number changed from 7-10 days, but it did not arrive for another 8 days after the "latest" delivery date. We were very clear about the date by which we needed the furniture and indicated what day would be the very last possible day we could accept the truck and were assured over and over again that this would be no problem. Turns out, they will say whatever they need to in order to get you to give a deposit and then completely disregard anything they told you prior. In addition to our furniture not being wrapped or protected in any fashion (the bed frame pieces were duct taped together without any blankets, foam, or any other protective materials, they LOST a slat, a foot, and two screws from my bed frame. When they took it out of the truck, they put it on the street directly on the asphalt, even further scratching and damaging my items. We also have VERY clear instructions that our $3,000 Tempurpedic mattress need to be transported laying flat otherwise our warranty would be void, yet it was still transported standing. My rugs and rug pads were WET. Don't ask me how something gets wet inside the truck, but I had to throw away one because it was so musty. When the truck finally arrived, the driver called and asked if his truck would fit on the street. I said, I am not a truck driver so I don't know if the truck can make the turn or not. Erika, the receptionist, told me that she checked google maps and determined it would fit. I told the driver this. He had some colorful things to say about her (clearly there is animosity between the employees and this is obvious in a very unprofessional way" and told me she is across the country and doesn't know. So it somehow became my problem to figure out whether the truck would fit on my street after they already took my money and drove my belongings across the country. He told me if the truck did not fit, he would have to continue on with his other deliveries and he would be back in "a few weeks". Then the driver told me he needed 7 car lengths to park even though when I booked I asked Erika about parking for the truck and she said "you only need parking permits in Boston, you don't need one". I live in one of the biggest cities in the country and it is impossible to get 7 parking spaces together with 13 hours notice. I had to tell the driver that the spaces were there (which they obviously were not) in order to get him to agree to come deliver. When they were all done they said they couldn't bring the cardboard with them that my mattress was in, so they left a giant pile of trash in my yard. They also damaged several plants in my yard while delivering. Completely unprofessional. Out of all of the moves I have done in my life, this company made it the most stressful move I've ever made. Once they have your contract and furniture they ignore you, never return a phone call. They knew I was hopeful my furniture would arrive in the stated 3-5 days but NOPE it took 10 days. Five Star Moving is holding our stuff hostage currently. The company picked up our things in a 14-foot truck, then attempted delivery after transferring our property into a semi, which cannot legally drive down our street. The company was made aware of this but sent a semi anyway. Then the driver attempted to add on a fee for bringing the goods into the house from where the truck was parked. When we asked about this (just asked, calm tone) he started yelling about a semi being in the contract. It was not. He then told his guys to "pack it up!" and left with all our stuff. I would highly recommended against using these movers. I was promised an exact pick-up date weeks in advance, and despite multiple calls, I received less than a 12 hour notice for pick up. The movers didn't show up until 8pm (2-3 hours later than expected), took 4 1/2 hours to move less than a studio apartment (there were no stairs or long distances), and left garbage all over my apartment. I called several times to get a delivery date, and did not receive any information until the last day my items were contractually supposed to be delivered, and at this point, they notified me that they would be arriving two days late. This company is the epitome of lack of communication. The sales person that calls you to set up the move tells you completely different things than the movers that pick up as well as delivery your items. No one knew who worked for the company. Although they have a five star email address, they are apparently agents only. After the 48hr window you have to change or cancel your move, good luck catching your rep or anyone in the office. They completely ghost you.This was extremely frustrating when trying to get the correct process/cost nailed down that constantly changed ON moving day. Don't believe their discounted rates given to you to get you to sign the contract. Even after being explicit of what will moved, location, or flight of steps, this company will find a way to jack up the price. And if you don't pay the extra amount or ask for more details, your met with hostility and threats to hold your items. At that point you're at their mercy and they know it. I would say get things in writing, but even that doesn't matter with Five Star Movers. They should consider changing their name. There is nothing five star about their service. I have hired Five stars Movers for my move from Boston to Atlanta. My experience was nightmare with this company. From the day They have picked up my house hold stuff, I have been trying to reach out to them at least to get to know when I will get my stuff. It has been more than two weeks and I have no idea. Worst customer experience ever. I have reached out to the guy who sold me the service and he says that he has no idea and told to call the operations team who never picks up the phone. Five Stars Movers earned their five stars from me. We used them to pack and move from one apartment to another in Boston. We had a lot of stuff, stairs, a very long hallway, and a broken elevator on move day, and they still stuck to the schedule within a matter of minutes. Everything was placed exactly as I asked. The most impressive move of the day was when they got our very heavy piano down the stairs with fairly tight turns without hurting it or the walls. I, unfortunately, had a terrible experience with Five Star Movers as they facilitated a cross-country move for me from June - July 2020. I understand there is a global pandemic that is making it difficult to operate any business or organization, but I would have assumed this crisis would have made Five Star even more responsive to meet its customers' needs. This was not the case. After picking up my furniture and boxes in early June, I never heard from Five Star about the move unless I reached out to them. In fact, each time I called the long-distance dispatch number (which was at least 3 times), no one picked up the phone or responded to my voicemails. They did not deliver my materials within the 21-business day delivery window and provided no update unless I reached out to their central office. I do not know when I would have received my materials had I not reached out - it honestly felt like when Five Star picked up my materials in early June and was paid, they proceeded to do the bare minimum the rest of the way. When I was able to make contact with a company representative, I did not receive my materials until a week and a half after the articulated date. Five Star, rather than trying to facilitate the delivery themselves and rectify the delay, gave me the contact information for the driver and told me to reach out myself. It was not until the driver arrived that I realized Five Star had sub-contracted the delivery of my items - it was not a Five Star truck or representative. Five Star never alerted me to the fact that a third-party would be delivering my furniture, which caught me completely off-guard. When the driver finally arrived, he was extremely rude and unprofessional. Instead of explaining to us the payment process, he uttered profanities to me and my family and threatened to drive away with my stuff and leave it in storage. It was only until I requested that he call his supervisor that he called Five Star Movers and we were able to get it straightened out. Furthermore, the driver had hired someone from Craigslist to assist with the delivery of my materials, another aspect I was not aware of until that moment. The driver was also not thorough at all - he took 2 or 3 boxes off the truck that were not mine, and if I had not alerted him to this fact, I would have been in possession of someone else's materials. When I finally began unpacking my clothes, I found, to my dismay, a few suits and robes that had gotten wet and developed a significant amount of mold. It was clear that a few boxes had gotten damaged during transit, as evident by the tape that was on a few of them. Again, I was never made aware of this until I saw the damage with my own eyes. Unfortunately, Five Star Movers never called and checked in to even see how the move went. We moved from a second floor apartment to a single family house. These guys showed up early, and moved all of the boxes so fast that my husband was still getting dressed when they started on the furniture (we moved on a Saturday morning). They wrapped all of our furniture very carefully with moving blankets and even disassembled/reassembled some of the bigger pieces. I didn't even know that our desk could be taken apart, but they did it! Furniture arrived at the new house without a scratch. They finished ahead of schedule, which included reassembling everything. Can't say anything about fragile items, because we moved the ultra fragile stuff in our car. Didn't want to risk it, since we're talking about hand-blown glass, so I would have chosen to move that stuff myself regardless of which moving company we hired. read more

Great movers that have gone down hill. I've used Five Star Movers three times over five years, including an interstate move. My first experience was back in 2010. It was quick, efficient, timely, and low-cost. Everything you want in a move. These guys moved so well, I learned a thing or two about how a professional mover operates. Used them again in 2012 around town. Short, simple move. Everything came from storage, so there wasn't much to it. By all accounts, it was the same service as before. Then I moved one more time, and something changed. My bill was rounded way too high, way over the initial estimate. I was told that I had one day to make sure everything was undamaged; any longer and I wouldn't be allowed to make a claim. Who the hell packs, moves, unpacks and verifies all of their belongings in a 24 hour period? Maybe when I was 18 with nothing more than a bag of clothes and a radio, but as working professional of 14 years? I got stuff. Nuff said. I had assumed that my loyalty to their brand over the years would warrant some kind of premium care. I wrote them to air my grievances. I was allowed to take longer for my claim (umm, thanks doing the expected), but no credit or discount was issued for the blatant over charge. When I say blatant, I mean that my move was literally rounded up on time, an extra 45 minutes. They said they would talk to the mover. But nom? Didn't you have to sign off on the move when all was said and done? Yes, I did. And when I had mentioned it to the chief mover that he had rounded up, he tried to explain to me, very simply, that yes, this is how it's done. I was going to consider this there tip, but then they charged another hour for moving time, and they took a 30 minute break during my move. Point is, I sung their praises 4 years ago. Today? Avoid at all costs. There are now younger, more hungry movers in town who will give you great service for a good price. As low as Five Stars Movers? Not on paper, no. But you get what you pay for. Great price for cross country move. Both Erika and Tony were very friendly and helpful. Just one thing I want to mention so that you won't make the same mistake I made: When they say your items will arrive within 21 days, this does NOT include weekends so you have to count 21 days excluding Saturday and Sunday. And expect that you need to be flexible with the delivery time. In my case, the driver changed the delivery date once then texted me again at 2:00 in the morning that he can't make it on time. I called in sick so that I can receive the stuff and give the driver the balance, but ended up sitting at home waiting for them. read more

I was moving from New Hampshire to California. So I went with this company because of the good (mostly) reviews and quite frankly because of the great price (quite unbeatable, I compared with 10 different vendors). Anyways, Tony and Erica were pleasant to speak to. They answered all of my questions and concerns when I called, and I called a lot. They were also flexible with all the arrangements because at the time I was still trying to find a place in California. The movers came on time and were very fast and great at getting everything to the truck. Then that's where things went south. I am not sure if they went through another vendor or what happened but communication was not as good. They didn't seem to have a lot of knowledge as to where my stuff is and what is happening. Anyways, the day I was supposed to receive my things, I received an email from Tony saying that they should be there at 12-2 PM. 3 PM rolled by and nothing showed up, so I called the movers and they told me 5:30 - 6 PMish. They weren't there till 8-8:30 PM. I am normally a pretty patient person so the lateness didnt really bother me as long as the items came that day and came in one piece. So the items didnt come in one piece... I had 7 bookcases/organizers and only 2 made it unscathed from the move. The rest had some damages to it (some more than others). Besides the bookcases/ organizers I also had other items totally destroyed or partially damaged. If you are looking for a cheap company than I would recommend it. But if you are looking for high quality service I would definitely reconsider. I personally would not recommend this company. Moving is such a big important process that looking back I should have invested more money on a company that actually would have taken better care of my belongings. My experience was OK, but it definitely could have been better. Moving from one side of the country to the other is very stressful so to know that I now have to go through the claims process which can take up to 110 days is now making the process even more tiring. She worked directly with HR at my new job to do the billing directly so I did not owe them anything. Again, the movers showed up right on time and worked very efficiently, these guys are super fast so you'd better be ready on moving day. They were very helpful in packing fragile and larger items and they did not break anything. Once the truck pulled away I drove to Alabama and they kept my stuff in storage for 2 months. Again, I did not see it but no complains. All boxes seem to be dry and well taken care off. Once the time to deliver my goods came, again Erica was extremely helpful in coordinating a date that was convenient for me, and eventhough these guys were coming from Boston they arrived in the exact window when they said they would. They were super efficient in the unloading and careful as well. I can not speak more highly of this company. I would not use anyone else in the Boston area. read more

I was super nervous about this move because I had A LOT of stuff, going from a 3rd floor apartment in one town to a 3rd floor apartment in another town, but they were pros and put my mind at ease. They dismantled my larger furniture and reassembled it at the new place all with time to spare. They were efficient, conscientious, courteous, and professional! I highly recommend them! They were flexible when a car blocked the space where the moving truck was initially supposed to park at my old apartment, but they made it work! Also, they were very patient because we had to wait at the new place for the realtor to let us in since the keys I was given were only for my unit, not the main door. In spite of the hurdles, these guys maintained a positive attitude the entire time! I really appreciated it and it made the move so much less stressful! We moved last week from a house to an apartment and from start to finish, Five Stars Movers was 10 stars in my eyes! They showed up, got started right away, moved quickly and professionally throughout our house to get everything on the truck in 2 hours! They moved it just as quickly into our apartment and never let us lift a single box! They were polite and did everything we asked for and more. Nothing was damaged or scratched moving from one place to the other. I can't tell you how happy we are with Five Stars movers. Hat's off to Kevin and his team of strong, young men. We first used Five Stars this time last year and it was the best experience I've had with a move. Erika was fantastic to work with, and the guys couldn't have been better or nicer. We're moving again this summer so I called them, and they were quickly able to pull a quote together based on our previous move, and even without much notice they were able to make our date work. I have to tell everyone on YELP here how AWESOME these guys are! We ordered moving service from Unpakt.com and our original mover ALL PURPOSE MOVING out of Lowell, MA stood us up and were so rude and bad that UNPAKT Barred them. Unpakt sent these guys out the same day to save the day! They arrived and quickly got to work. Really fast and flexible service. These guys did not waste any time and they were VERY POLITE and PROFESSIONAL. VERY DEPENDABLE. They return calls as well. We will consider using them again for our next move within the next year. Only one item was broken, but this was probably our fault for not wrapping it better. No big deal. A+ read more
