All of the negative reviews of this company are spot-on. The communication is non-existent unless you initiate it and the company will only respond via text and not pickup the phone. The information they will call you and schedule via UHaul is a complete farce -- they will not call you. On the day of my move, the company sent one person to move me out of my third floor unit despite the owners assertion that "they" were on their way. The movers were late and the combination of showing up late and a single crew member meant I ended up pitching in and moving a large amount of my own stuff to make sure the job was done before my flight -- times that I had gone over with the company several times, including the day before. Finally, I sent Keith a note that I was unhappy and he hasn't responded for a week, so it's time to pursue action via reviews and UHaul to make the situation right. The company did load the boxes and did it cheaply, but did it in a manner so unprofessional it's not worth the cost and I am fearful for the condition my items will be in when we unload cross country. read more

I selected this company through Uhaul. I contacted them and scheduled time well in advance for a 0930 2 hour load and an additional 2 hour unload in the afternoon. 14 hours before the move, i get a text stating that they cant show for the load until the afternoon. Because of weather prediction and our schedule, 3 hours late is not acceptable. This guy left us in a lurch, stressing and scrambling to find someone else. I will never use this company again. I was asked to be flexible, but to me 3 hours late is a no show. I would have been ok with flexing an hour. But still think a 24 hour notice should have happened. Not Trusty at all!! The movers themselves were very polite and efficient. That's where the positives end for my experience unfortunately. There were major issues with communication when it came to scheduling, which is a big part of providing a service like this, and it was unapologetically neglected. The moving company didn't contact me until the night before my move out date to schedule, and told me they don't go by the time on the u-haul booking. "We make our own timing" is the exact text message I received - so that's unprofessional and inconsiderate of my time right off the bat if I'm finding out on such short notice. I wasn't told until 9pm the night before the move out date what time they would arrive, so be aware that's how little notice they feel they need to provide, without any advance warning. Then for my later move-in date, they again waited until late the night before to schedule their arrival time. Then on the scheduled move-in day, minutes after the arrival time we agreed on, they told me they were running late. After multiple inaccurate ETA updates , they finally arrived over 2 hours later than what we scheduled, and that wasn't even the worst part. They had the wrong u-haul u-box container, so they had to leave and go get the correct one. This seems to have been a mistake made by u-haul, and I addressed that issue with u-haul directly after, but it still seems to boil down to poor communication all-around. How is there not a system in place to confirm the correct barcode? Even if this wasn't at all the moving company's fault, they still were unabashedly disrespectful of my time for the rest of the day when it came to rescheduling. I literally sat around twiddling my thumbs for HOURS (with none of my furniture) at the new place waiting for them to arrive, and I had to keep asking them myself to get any updates because they sure weren't being at all proactive in keeping me in the loop. The move was postponed over and over again, and they told me that my move would be done last because it was U-Haul's mistake. Fine, that part may be out of the moving company's control, but scheduling is not, and the right thing to do would have been to guarantee a specific time to reschedule rather than having me wait around indefinitely on a day I took off from work, which ended up being for no reason because at the end of the day, they asked to schedule for early the next morning, which I reluctantly agreed to because I was exhausted by the time this was asked. No partial refund or even the slightest apology was offered at any point for any of this - just excuses and an apathetic, defensive tone in the text messages much like the responses you see from them on the other negative reviews here. I didn't bother to directly let them know how frustrated I was at the time, assuming that would risk them retaliating with even worse scheduling - who knows with this level of unprofessionalism? Again, I acknowledge that a lot of this resulted from a mistake that was made by u-haul. But a lot of this was also still avoidable despite that, and a more considerate attitude alone would've gone a long way, but there was none of that. So again, the movers were good at moving things and that's it. That part I do appreciate, but it's definitely not sufficient to recommend this business when other moving companies I've used have good movers too, and are also much better at managing the rest of the customer experience - scheduling, planning for potential issues, and taking accountability rather than giving the customer excuses about being busy during what is very foreseeable as a busy season and when I'm already paying a premium rate because of that. read more

I booked trusty dad through the u-haul u-box website. I was told they would reach out to me to confirm my selected date. I waited a few weeks and never heard from them so then I reached out to them. I tried calling but they didn't answer. I sent a text and they didn't respond. I tried calling the next day and they didn't answer so I followed up with a text instead of a voicemail (like their message recommended). My move was coming up in 3 weeks so I just wanted a confirmation in case I needed to find another mover. I'm including a screenshot of my texts with them. Acknowledging extenuating circumstances - including extreme heat and the assigned UHaul location - the pre-moving experience was frustrating. Communication was very poor by the individual in charge of the service, and I had to initiate all discussions for scheduling and timing. This is probably because the dispatcher/boss had to serve as a relay point between his team (though I believe that it was a set of subcontractors) and myself. Windows provided on the intended moving day (June 18) were not met. The plan of arrival of 11 am - 2 pm was delayed to 2-4 pm. Then 4-6 pm. Then nothing. Hours would go by without updates while I awaited their arrival, again compounded by Trusty Dad's point of contact being unable to reach the team. As noted by others, all information is relayed by text message. At 1130 pm, the movers themselves finally called me to meet and 20 mins later called to delay my move until June 19. Fortunately, I booked my move to occur one day before my official move out. However, on the moving day, the team was cordial, helpful, and kind. They were thorough and efficient as well. It's clear that they had to rush between jobs, with delays in each move then putting them further behind, compounded by Boston traffic. Unfortunately, even on the arrival day they were nearly an hour later than scheduled. I was very disappointed by the difficulty in getting the team on site, which I would have accepted with clear communication. Their reliance on sub-contractors was opaque, and their logistics issues truly diminished the experience. There were some factors out of their control, but the ones they could were not done well. A perfunctory apology was offered by their point of contact, which felt more like a platitude. Therefore, I can't recommend their service. read more

This company came highly recommended but the evening before we were due to move they changed the schedule, that had been agreed a week earlier, on us and insisted it had to be a time that didn't work for our schedule - we were embarking on a 15 hour drive. They wouldn't discuss it on the phone and became very rude when I tried to explain why the change wouldn't work for us. Worked with them to pack all of my possessions for a long-haul move. They insisted that large wooden items did not need to be wrapped or covered with any protective blankets, even though they were available. In the end, the way they packed the moving truck resulted in severe damage to $4500 worth of wooden furniture and refused to compensate me for any of the damage. These guys not only were amazing at packing my uhaul pods, they saved our ass (not joking). I had hired these guys through uhaul to bring our uhaul pods to our place, packed them and then returned them back to uhaul. Keith was extremely quick to respond throughout the whole process and finished packing on time. Hours after they left, I noticed that uhaul had canceled my order. They just canceled the whole order and when I called them to ask about it, their system showed as me never coming to get the pods and they were STUNNED that they had our stuff. We were dumb to not have recorded the pod numbers our stuff was in and this is where Keith saved our ass. I texted Keith late Saturday night explaining the situation and asked if he by chance had written down our pod numbers. He did (thank you Keith) and then offered to call his contact at the local uhaul for me and said he would get it worked out. While I was bounced around uhaul customer support because no one knew what to do, Keith's contact had figured out who canceled our order and had it back up and resolved before I could even convince customer support what had happened. That contact, Mike, continued to work with me to get my stuff shipped out on time. This was the best moving experience we've had! We had stored our belongings in a U-box for 10 months and needed it delivered and unpacked to our home. Trusty Dads did this seamlessly- they were on time with good communication and pricing, and SO nice and friendly during the delivery of our items. Trusty Dad did not wrap any of our furniture, so 9 of pieces of our furniture were badly damaged or ruined. Further, we had requested four U-Boxes to accommodate all of our stuff. Keith and our movers assured us we would not need all four, but they would add them if necessary. However, toward the end of our third box, they told us we were out of space and they were out of time at our apartment. Rather than adding the box we asked for, they told us to throw away or ship our items. We threw away hundreds of dollars of items and spent more than $600 shipping furniture, art and clothing. I contacted Keith and informed him that his movers had severely damaged all of our furniture and that his poor planning resulted more than a thousand dollars of additional losses. He apologized and asked me what fair price was to make it right. When I asked that he refund the move and the shipping cost (and noted that I was not seeking damages for the furniture), he stopped communicating with me altogether. read more

I moved into my apartment last July and used Trusty Dad Moving. Three movers came to unload my uhaul pod. After unlocking and opening the pod, they asked my mom to show them inside where things go (I was out getting us coffee at the time they showed up). All 3 of them went inside with her, leaving the opened uhaul unattended on Mass Ave. A pickup truck had pulled up directly behind the uhaul when they first arrived and my mom thought they were part of the moving crew. When she and the movers came back out, the pickup truck was gone and 5/6 of my boxes were stolen. These contained all of my personal belongings (clothes, photos, jewelry, bags, shoes, etc - some very sentimental things) and none of it has been recovered. We filed a police report and worked with a detective, who thought it may have even been an inside job. We also came to find out that the company was not even legally authorized to work in the state of Massachusetts by Boston Business Bureau (even though online they advertise themselves as "boston moving labor") and are out of NH. They refused to file an insurance claim and said we were lying and that they moved everything in my apartment (even though we have front door camera footage showing these boxes were never moved in my apartment). They were extremely harsh, disrespectful, and uncooperative. Moving to a completely new city and having all of my belongings stolen was extremely traumatic for me, as you can imagine. I contracted Trusty Dad to move my U-Box. While backing up the U-Box, Keith backed the U-Box into my car causing significant damage. Keith was very nonchalant about it and says it happens to him at least once a month. This happened on a sidestreet in Natick on a clear day - the only reason he hit my car was out of carelessness. After having a terrible start to our move with a nightmare moving company that seemed to be scam artist, we decided to use a Ubox last minute to transport our things from San Francisco to Boston. We contracted with Trusty Dad Moving to pick up the box and delivery it to our apartment and take it back. We decided later to add on the unloading option, which they only charged an extra $75 even though they were taking our entire box up several sets of stairs. Not only were they very flexible with having to change the dates a few times, but they were very responsive when contacted. The men unloading our box were punctual, pleasant and SO FAST. I can't say enough about Keith. My experience was one of the best I have ever had with a mover. Alone, he's like hercules (lol). Keith has moved me twice and each time he has been fast, careful and professional. They were recommended to me through U-Haul box to help me unpack my storage units. I couldn't be happier. I live in the top floor of a converted mill so moving anything in or out is quite inconvenient since it's a long, winding route through multiple buildings. They were quick, polite, and so efficient. They brought the storage boxrs, unpacked them, and moved everything into my apartment (including a king sized bed) in about an hour. I highly recommend them. Last spring I needed to move a bunch of stuff to our new apartment. I promised Trusty Dad (Keith) that I would spread the word about his moving skills, aaaaaaaaand I didn't. Till now. Here's what I had: Queen bed + mattress Couch & loveseat Chairs (2 rocking, 1 lounge, 2 computer) 2 or 3 small shelves A couple of other miscellaneous bits of furniture A few boxes (maybe 6 to 8) I sent Keith an email on Wednesday, asking if he could do the move that Sunday. He responded very quickly with an affirmative and a very nice rate. The initial quote was for a one-man job, but he was able to bring a second set of hands for an extra fee, which I happily paid since I'm an extremely scrawny guy, and I was pretty much the only person on my side who would be able to help. Sunday rolled around and Keith showed up with his pickup and buddy. I expected that we'd need two trips to move this stuff in a pickup, but it turned out that Keith had expert Tetris skills and was able to fit everything in and safely tie it down (fair note for people trying to gauge how much stuff can be fit in one trip: the Tetrissing did not really include my IKEA bedframe, which they dis-assembled for the trip and re-assembled once we got to the apartment, but it was pretty cool nevertheless). The move included ~3 minutes of highway driving and ~20 minutes of non-higway driving, but I'm confident that they would have been able to transport the same load safely for a much longer trek if needed. I don't actually remember how long the whole process took, but it was a) faster than I expected, and b) waaaaaaaay faster and less stressful than I could ever have managed. You can use this service with confidence, but do make sure to ask questions so you don't get blindsided the way John C evidently did.
