I was prepared to give Mass Bay Movers/Restoration Movers a glowing review until I discovered that their moving crew had damaged a framed artwork. They didn't report the damage and tried to cover it up by putting brown packing tape over the cracked frame. I contacted the manager who deferred me to the claims department. That was over a week ago and I'm still waiting for some kind of response from anyone. I would have recommended this company except for this event and failed cover up and lack of response. I cannot recommend this company enough. I received quotes from many different companies and Mass Bay came in as by far the cheapest (I am located in Salem, MA). At the last minute, they were able to accommodate me for a next day move. Dan, the salesman told me everything I would need to know during our phone call. Manuel, the Forman, shower up on time with two others. They were fast, efficient, and took great care of all of my items. Before I moved I told a friend that I was curious to see how much over what I was quoted I would be charged. Amazingly Mass Bay finished my move in record time and the total came in under the quote. They were also kind enough to help my girlfriend move stuff out of her car and into our new place when she did not even contract with them. zero stars for these absolute clowns. i didn't hire them but they were moving someone out of my building and had the entire entrance blocked and drove there truck up on to the side walk. I couldn't be more happy with Mass Bay. I recently moved the contents of my entire home, patio, and outbuilding. Although it was a long day (two trucks and six movers), everything went incredibly smoothly. The crew was fantastic and kept checking in to make sure everything was where it was supposed to be. given that the crew was on their game, the move actually took a little less time than initially quoted so the final bill came out less than the original estimate. When you look on the website, MBM has very high reviews. I don't have any experience with other company for comparison. The moving was OK, mostly because we took extra care to protect the objects that could have been damaged. What I found really tricky, was their deceiving charges. I initially asked for an estimate to move part of my household to complete part of insurance work related to water damage. The estimate did not mention at all that it was referring to one way, moving out portion. After the insurance approved the estimate and the move happened, I was informed that this was just for one way and additional charges will be applied for return. Needless to say that the insurance did not pay the difference and we were stuck with a bill of over 4000$. I WOULD NEVER WORK WITH THIS COMPANY AGAIN BECAUSE OF DECEIVING BILLING. read more

Following a house fire we had furniture moved and stored by MassBay Movers. When those items were returned we found extensive damage, so we filed a claim. In an e-mail, MassBay offered a monetary settlement of $860. We tried to discuss the claim further, but they would not answer our emails. After the third or fourth try, they simply wrote back: We have sent you our offer of $850.00 [sic]. This is our final offer." We called to discuss the claim as well as their bad customer service, and they did call us back, but would not negotiate on any part of the claim. Being worn out by the process, we emailed saying we would accept the offer. When they sent a release form, it included an "anti-disparagement clause" that basically said neither we nor any of our family or friends could make disparaging remarks about the company on social media or anywhere else, or they'd have the right to go after the settlement money. We now understand why there seem to be only glowing reviews online! This clause violates the Federal Consumer Review Fairness Act of 2016 by stopping us from reviewing their services or conduct online or in any other way; and by imposing penalties or fees (in this case, claiming the right to a refund of the settlement amount) if we do post a review of their services or conduct. Customers beware. The moving team we had was careful. The experience at the warehouse was another thing entirely. Furniture did need to be brought onto the floor for insurance inspection. Somewhere in the process, antique furniture was wrapped in packing tape without any blankets. There are white paint streaks on the edges of many pieces. We expected some damage, but not as extensive as was found. But even worse, our experience with MassBay Movers is that the company is unprofessional in its treatment of its clients and continues to break the law with its anti-disparagement clause. We believe we should be able to receive payment for damages AND write an honest review without penalty. read more

They helped advise on what should/should not go in the pod and did a very thorough and careful job wrapping everything. They worked quickly and got the job done in 30 mins less than the estimate. Very disappointing. We used them last August (2021), and everything went very smoothly, just like many other reviewers here describe: they arrived on time, were very fast and efficient (there were four of them), and finished earlier than quoted time. This time, however... They arrived at 8:45 AM and played some fighting game on the street for some time; they did not start actually moving anything until 9:15 AM (but charged us from 8:45 AM, of course). There were five of them, and they were very, very slow. One of the movers was wearing sunglasses the whole time, moved slowly, and his speech also was slow and deliberate. After they arrived at the destination, the unloading process took a very long time--they would pick up an item, get into the house, and then emerge after 2 or 3 minutes. The foreman, Rich, in the meantime was in the truck (he spent there most of the time) carefully folding blankets they used to cover our furniture. The August'21 team if four took moved more stuff in 5 hours than this team of five did in 7.5. And after they left--a little cherry on top of the cake--we discovered that they put our long (and heavy) TV stand the wrong way (drawers facing the fall), so we had to move it ourselves in a room full of furniture. All in all, it seems like working with this company is a bit of a crapshoot: you can get a team that is awesome, or a team that it really lackluster. read more

We found Mass Bay from searching online for the best movers in our area. We weren't looking for the cheapest movers, just the BEST. Well we not only found the best but they were also the least expensive by a long shot. Our furniture was extremely heavy and awkward including an almost 400lb piece of gym equipment. The guys moved it all with ease without damaging anything and got the entire job wrapped, loaded, driven about 30 minutes, unwrapped and unloaded in five hours total - they came under the quote by two hours and were about half the price of the other quotes we got. This company doesn't charge for materials like tape and wrap and blankets like some do and they were very careful not to damage not only the furniture but the home as well. I hope I never have to move again but if I do I would use Mass Bay and would HIGHLY RECOMMEND them. read more
