I had high hopes as the Other reviews for this business were great. I filled out the online form on yelp with all the pertinent information for my move . I clearly stated it was going to be a two stop move. ( moving a large tall dresser to location a few streets away from the destination location) The plan was to hire a mover for roughly two rooms of furnit with approximately 25 boxs( we had already moved the other two room's worth of furniture and several boxs ourselves) Steve texted me immediately . He stated he charges per job and not hourly so we scheduled an appointment for later in the week for an on site estimate. At no No time during our brief phone conversation to schedule did he state he was shorthanded or had an employee quit the week before. He came out gave a visual estimate of the job and then abruptly left stating he would get back to me with an estimate. I thought it strange he left So abruptly without actually scheduling the move date before he left He then texted me a few hours later stating he was going to pass on the job because he was shorthanded we had more items than he had expected. Mind you his business slogan is "no job too small " so apparently a two and half room apartment with normal amount of boxs job is too big!! Was moving my daughter from our residence to a townhouse, no furniture but a lot of boxes and large kids toys. Received two quotes each around $1000 which I thought was a little high as I estimated 2 guys, 1 1/2 hours to load the truck, 10 mile drive, unload in 1 1/2 hours. Saw Steve's internet ad of specializing in small moves so called him. Came right over and looked over items to be moved and gave a fixed price quote of $450. I hired him on the spot but then had to change the move date twice, first new ordered furniture was delayed 3 days and then because of the weather. Steve was very accommodating with no fuss on both changes. Then, my daughter ended up adding quite a number of new items to the move, a TV on the stand, bikes, 2 bookshelves, etc. so I called Steve and let him know to please fee free to increase the price. He sure did, he charged us $20 more so I gave him $50. You do not find many people like Steve doing business like this, he is a rare find indeed and will be using him again when needed. I have used Bay State movers several times over the years for small moving jobs as well as large one. They just did one for me today which is what reminded me to come and give them a shout-out here. Steve and his crew could not be more amazing. Even this week, with a really last minute small moving job, Steve really went the extra mile to fit me in and meet my deadline. Couldn't say more about Bay State Movers! Steve was top notch, very professional and so accommodating. His attention to detail made the process very relaxing, and took notes beforehand on everything that needed to be done. I had received a few quotes before talking with Steve, and I found their system much more convenient. They stop by to give an all-in-one quote, as opposed to the per-hour+fee from other companies that made it difficult to know what the end cost would be. They showed up promptly, took care of our belongings and rolled with all the chaos that comes with moving. Horrible service, rude, and undependable. I had an appointment to use them last month (5/2011) , but due to severe family illness I had to cancel. Steve B assured me that it would be no problem to move me this month (6/2011). Now, just days ahead of move, after numerous calls, he refuses to honor commitment. They stood us up completely. We had an 8:00 appointment, and 8 came and went with no word. By the end of the day, we had called several times with no answer or return call, written emails that were also unanswered, and spent the entire day moving by ourselves. I hired Bay State Movers to unload my truck after I moved up from DC. Scheduling via email/phone was very easy. While I was skeptical when they showed up at 11:05am for an 8:30am appointment, Sean and his crew (3 others) unloaded my truck and carried everything to the 3rd floor in 45 minutes on a hot summer day. I was impressed with their attitudes, friendliness, and professionalism once they arrived on the job and it only cost $105. I tipped them almost 100% because I expected to pay more for movers to unload my truck and make it to the dreaded top floor with stair-only access. I would definitely hire them again, but ask for a realistic arrival time. I wasn't in a hurry so it didn't affect my day other than being a little frustrated that I got up early to drive down from NH to be on time just to sit around and wait for 2.5 hours until they showed up. We needed a moving company on short notice and needed to move on a Sunday. Lots to ask, I know. I called three companies. One never returned my call, one quoted a crazy number over the phone. And then there was Steve from Bay State Movers. Over the phone he asked all the appropriate questions about what needed to be moved, types of furniture, how many boxes, etc. Sunday was no problem. Quoted a reasonable price for the total move, not per hour. I had to know what the cost was up front. I feel like it's open checkbook time when it's billed per hour. He came to see what being moved and confirmed the quote. He and 2 men showed up right on time. Took bed and futon apart and put back together at new place. Very efficient, polite and careful. Blanket wrapped items in the truck, etc. A door needed to be removed at the new place to get some pieces in, no issue for them. Before they left Steve made absolutely certain all items were exactly where we wanted them. No damage to homes or furnishings, nothing missing. Relieved sooo much stress for me! This company deserves your business. They know what great customer service is all about. Make them your first call. read more

Steve and his crew were wonderful. The pricing was very reasonable and fair. They were scheduled for 9 am and arrived at 8:45 which was perfect I was ready and waiting. The day was very warm but that did not stop these 3 guys from working hard. I would highly recommend Bay State Movers our experience was nothing but positive on what could have been a stressful day. If you are looking for a great company who is very professional, with employees who work hard you have found them! WOW, I don't even know where to begin. Steve and his team were absolutely amazing! First class all the way!! Steve came over to the house, did a walk through, took notes then gave me a quote; his rates are based on the job not by the hour which was really important to me especially since Andover has major construction right now due to the recent gas explosions and it can take a half hour to go two blocks. They showed up on time, wrapped every item and once at my new home put everything away EXACTLY how I wanted it down to the very last detail. I had moved a lot of boxes a couple days before they were scheduled and because of that Steve reduced his quoted price to reflect that; you never hear of someone lowering their pricing! FABULOUS!! I have had some horrible experiences in the past, Steve gave me my faith back that there are still people out there who take pride in their work. I gave a money order for more than I owed (It was all I had at the time) the ower took it and promised to bring back the change once it cleared. Since then I was told he'd come on one day and he never showed and now I call and he does not answer his phone. I think if someone is in business they have a responsibility to be honest and I would not trust a person who steals from a single mother with my personel belongings. I fully intend on reporting this to the better business bureau if he does not make honest of his debt. ALso some furniture was damaged in the move. read more

After reading the reviews for Bay State Movers, I decided to give them a call. I explained to Steve what my situation was, and he gave me an estimate right then. I agreed to have Steve come and take a look at what I had, and after seeing everything, he gave me a price which was almost exactly what he had quoted over the phone. I had received two other quotes previously, and decided to go with Bay State because, unlike the other companies I had contacted, Steve's price is based on the move; he doesn't charge an hourly fee. My move took place five days before Christmas, a very busy time. Steve and his men were very careful and professional. They placed everything for me in my condo according to my wishes; nothing was left out of place. Steve made sure things were just as I wanted before leaving.
