Alright, so I worked here for a few months about a year ago, so all of my opinions will be ridiculously biased is some way or another. Now that I've got that out, I would never eat at Bounitful Bread if I didn't get free food from working there. I mean, upwards of 8 bucks for a tiny sandwich? Really? Go to an Italian deli and get a sub that will be twice as filling and cost two bucks less. Same goes for their overpriced salads and soups. Nevertheless, I always enjoyed the food here and never complained about eating it on a daily basis. The bread is baked fresh every night and the staff (bakers, cooks, servers, dishwashers, certain managers) all work real hard to keep this place running. The inside is nice and cozy, but is constantly filled with the yuppies that come out of the Albany woodwork to shop at Stuyvesant Plaza. read more

I like Bountiful Bread. They have a lot of different options-salads, soups, sandwiches, and wraps as well as baked goodies. It can get really crowded around lunch time, so seating can be a pain and sometimes they don't clean them fast enough which means a dirty table. My favorite sandwich is the Vermont sandwich with the turkey, stuffing, cranberry mayo. It's so good. It is pretty large too. They don't skimp on the toppings which is good. I have ordered salads and more than once they have forgotten items which I paid for which is annoying. The set up is a little confusing and can be really messy. When I have gone back up to the counter for forgotten items, it's a hassle. It's confusing. It's also expensive for what you get. Yes, everything is good, but it's truly a bit too expensive. What's worse is that for a side you merely get a few chips that clearly came out of a lays bag. That's a fail to me. For a fast and tasty lunch, Bountiful Bread does the trick, but I just wish it was a little less expensive. read more

On paper, this is a local version of Panera. In execution, Bountiful gets it right, while Panera is at the McDonalds level of fast food falsehood. The bread is fresh and varied (only slightly lower quality than a dedicated bakery and head and shoulders above other sandwich shops), the sandwiches delicious, the specials interesting, the soups unique and wholesome, service greatly improved since they redesigned the line, comfortable if sterile seating area. The sweets are decadent if not super adventurous. Pretty much the whole menu is good, but my top favorites are the Panzanella, the crab cake stack and the Vermont turkey (with sage stuffing and cranberry mayo, pure comfort food). My wife digs the smoked turkey. Wednesdays is the Beef on Weck special which I personally prefer over the Buffalonian version (it's the crusty version of the Kummelweck roll I like). Prices are very fair for what you get. Oh and if you're passing by some evening, looking for a boost for your family dinner, a quart of soup and a loaf of bread is only $11. I certainly can't make soup from scratch that cheap. read more

I'm always satisfied with a quick lunch of soup or salad at Bountiful Bread, so their Thanksgiving take-out special of "Everything but the Turkey for Two" was very appealing. Now, on Friday morning, I'm having pie for breakfast, left over from the generous, delicious feast we enjoyed yesterday. (We could choose pumpkin or apple. The pumpkin is perfectly spiced.). I used to stop by Bountiful Bread on a regular basis for one of their BIG salads. But, over the course of the past 8-9 months (or perhaps more) I've continued to be increasingly dissapointed with their big salads. The amount of lettuce has shrunk as well as the toppings on the salad. Also, who ever thought of croutons that are just hunks of bread thrown on top of your salad with no extra toasting / flavoring to them. I've resigned myself to just go to the supermarket and pick up salad fixings when I want big salad. Also, Daniel B. is right to point out that the ordering situation is not pleasant. You order, they give you a recipt, you wait, you walk with your reciept to the cashier. Too many steps for me... and no directions for this are provided for those who have never been there before. I'd never gone here before because, well, I'm allergic to bread. As a result, I usually avoid places with bread in the name. But...I was at Stuyvesant Plaza the other day with my brother and mother and we wanted to get lunch. My mother and I were both craving something smallish like soup or salad. So despite my initial reservations, we went here. It was MLK day and the place was swarming with people, which overwhelmed me. I would probably prefer going here at a less crowded time. The ordering situation was a little confusing because the various parts of our order all came out at different times from different areas. The counterperson I dealt with was a little rude, but the food wasn't bad. My salad was packed with portobello mushrooms and was huge for the $7.95 price tag. There was a little too much goat cheese for my tastes, but I just picked some of it off. And bonus points for the free water (you wouldn't think that would be such an anomaly these days...) One more thing: I had a stray piece of bacon in my salad. I love bacon, so I wasn't annoyed but I can imagine a vegetarian would be. read more

Really, really Over price, i had a cuban sandwich, worst cuban in history of human kind, i dont know if that was the Americanize version of it or what, also it comes with a side but you dont get to choose what its they just give you this macaroni salad with olives and never even tell you thats a side. I'm allergic to olives. Got a cuban to go when i get home i could not eat it because they put the side in the same container... Make sure that you ask to put your side in a separate container if you dont like your food to touch each other or if like me you have allergies. read more

When I used to work in Albany, I came to Bountiful Bread almost every working day. The atmosphere here is casual but nice and you stand on line to order, and find yourself a table. There is quite a variety of salads, sandwiches, and wraps...and also dessert items. The breads can also be purchased in loaves, which is nice. I loved their portabello mushroom salad. So good. And their Tomato Pesto soup is to die for...yum! The vegetable mufaletta is delicious also. Staff is friendly, a lot of them have been there for years. Whenever I'm in town, I try to stop in and grab food from here. Nice place to stop in for a quick lunch while shopping at Stuyvesant Plaza. read more

It's one of those places where you can say you get what you pay for. Everything is a dollar or two more expensive but they make up for it by giving you better portions and the quality is better then Panera. It's basically Panera but better and just a little more expensive. Huge salads and huge sandwiches. Service is good as well. We ordered a 200 dollar order for my office and they got everything right (which never happens when the office orders). Everything was labeled and everything was ready even earlier then they said and was in and out of there in 5 minutes. And that's saying something because they were swarmed when I walked in there. read more

Just an update to say their muffaletta sandwich is delish and the service I experienced there last week was awesome. Interesting little shop. The staff struck me as kind of weird. Kind of snarky. I got the classic club sandwich served hot. It was pretty good. They had some samples of cookies etc that were good too. Nothing too crazy. I read a couple of the things hanging up on the walls. Sounds like they do some serious business. I was looking forward to this place after a co-worker suggested it since I'm not familiar with the area. Came here around lunch time and this place was PACKED!!! The line for ordering moved relatively fast., however the pick up wasn't so quick. I ordered a Chicken Pesto grilled panini and couldn't wait to sink my teeth into it...that was until I saw someone grabbing a paper wrapped sandwich, cut it in 1/2 & stuck it on a panini press. Disappointment washed over me like a tidal wave...this place doesn't make their sandwiches?!!! It was PRE-MADE & stored in a refrigerator???!!!! Are they about to serve me airplane food???!!! Someone shut the front door & hand me a paper bag!!! The deceit, the betrayal!!! They tricked me with their delicious looking display of GIANT cookies, desserts and bread. To top off with the insult of learning your food isn't made/assembled right there in front of you, they got my order wrong. At this point the lunch crowd swelled and the girl behind the counter rushed my order (she even rolled her eyes at me when I told her I didn't order a sandwich but rather a panini). I ended up with a panini that was still cold in the middle, maybe I should've just taken that sandwich. Girl behind the counter 1 : Me 0...well played... There should be some kind of disclaimer on their menu and website that state your sandwich is pre-made & refrigerated NOT freshly made. If you want a salad, they do make it right there onsite. Horrible service ... .yeah the bread is pretty good but all the kids do behind the counter is screw around and the management doesn't seem to care...today one guy was acting lame on purpose so the 2 gals could flirt with him - while NOBODY'S food got done. I watched the woman in front of me chat with one salad maker for 5 minutes before it occurred to me that the one talking to her wasn't making the salad but just talking!! I then came up to the counter and she started making the salad. Then the one next to her stopped working whenever the guy opened his idiotic mouth. This was after the lunch rush. I've only been to Bountiful Bread a couple of times, but on each occasion, I've enjoyed my food and my experience. Today I visited with my mom for lunch. She got the Vermont sandwich (turkey, sage stuffing, lettuce, cranberry mayo) and I got one of the specials, the Chicken Waldorf wrap (chicken, mayo, cranberries, Granny Smith apple slices, lettuce and walnuts on a honey wheat wrap). Both of us scarfed down our sandwiches- they were so tasty! There were actual chunks of fresh meat in them and the rest of the ingredients tasted fresh as well. The sandwiches came with a small side of pasta salad (a tubular pasta with some sort of italian or vinigrette dressing and some veggies like broccoli) and a pickle. I've also had some of the baked goods. My mom, my aunt and I have split some things like a mini pie, lemon square and a cookie. They were all really tasty. The place itself was clean and there were lots of seating options- bigger tables for big groups, small tables for 2 or 4, window counter seating and comfy couches by the fireplace. Your order is called out when it's ready and when you're done, you bus your own table. Real plates, but plastic silverware. They've got a great sandwich selection as well as salads and a whole breakfast menu. They also make soups fresh every day. Well worth a visit to Stuyvesant Plaza if you're looking for a tasty, quick affordable lunch! read more

They have a setup like Panera Bread. It took a good 10 minutes before we were called up to get our food, started to seem like people after us were getting their orders before us. Drinks in the cooler seemed a lot $2.75 (Nantucket) $2.99 (Bai) I got the Milano Chicken, toasted. It was served on Artisan bread (which destroyed the roof of my mouth, mostly because it was toasted.) I wasn't fond of their pesto mayo at all. The spinach however was amazing, I just wish they put more on it. All in all the sandwich was OKAY. They used fresh mozzarella and crispy prosciutto. I don't think it was worth $9 however, at least it was served with a pickle and chips. I also took a taste of my boyfriends Tomato soup, very thick and creamy, with good spices. The lines are long, but the food is worth the wait. I applaud their efforts to use biodegradable disposables, but I feel like their packaging is still very wasteful. But the food is *really* tasty. I ordered the Ham and Brie (without the ham). It is brie and apples and a cranberry mayonnaise on whole grain bread. Sold! I make a similar sandwich at home, but this far surpasses what I can make happen (I think it's their mayo). Their coffee is simple, but well-brewed and tasty and their menu has something for pretty much everyone (at least anyone who's not gluten free, who shouldn't even walk into a place with "bread" in the name!). The biggest problem I have with them is that the wait time is always excessive, no matter what day of the week or what time of the day I go. If it didn't taste so damn good, I'd dock them a star for it. read more

I placed an order and paid for it last week in advance of needing it on Sunday. When my husband went to pick it up, they lost the order and charged him again. When I called the restaurant to intervene, I spoke with the manager and asked what was the point of placing and order and paying for it if you lose the order. He said if I didn't like the way they did business, he would BAN ME FROM THERE. Nice way to threaten a customer who already paid for their order. Neve once did he apologize for their error. They should change their name to "Bountiful Disappointment". It is a Panera Bread gone bad. I ordered the special of the day, which was a soup and a salad. The soup, tomato bisque, was awful. It was frothy and tasted as if they had mixed it in a blender and then heated it in the microwave. The acidity of the soup was off as well, tasting more like the back of your mouth when you know you are on the brink of upchucking. Furthermore, they offer no bread or crackers with the soup... seriously, you want to over charge for soup and then make me fork over an extra $2 for a piece of bread? Incredible. The salad was fresh but it was miniature... baby size miniture. The dressing that came with the salad was good but looked like something that came out of a baby's butt. I tried Bountiful Bread again despite previous mediocre experiences. I ordered a grilled sandwich special which included a cup of soup and a cookie. The cost was $18. I waited almost 20 minutes for my order. The sandwich was okay although I'm not sure it had avocado on it as promised. The soup was good. The cookie was not terribly fresh. It was very busy and very loud. For the money, you can do much better and even get your food quicker! read more

The tables were all dirty, and the bus boy wiped off a table with his bare hand, no cloth or cleaner. One of the cooks who also ran the register was seen counting a stack of cash with seemed to likely be his tips, didn't look sanitary to me. $30 for 2 sandwiches and one drink, and the chips were lays ripple chips, was expecting maybe some good homemade chips. read more

Bountiful Bread has some good lunch options but there prices are a bit high. They have an organized system for order taking, payment, and delivery but it gets bogged down during peak hours. A great sandwich option is their Wednesday special Beef on Weck($10). A good portion of roast beef on a true KemmelWeck roll. Beacuse of the high salt content on the Weck roll this is not advisable for those requireing a low sodium diet - but for everyone else it is a nice sandwich. They prepare this by dunking the beef in the Au jus (rather thean the bread itself) which I find preferable. I'd advise eating the sandwich as soon as possible before the juice completely soaks into the bread making it difficut to eat. I am not from Buffalo, so I can't make a strong judgement on the authenticity of their version, but it sure seems true to the style to me. read more

I have been here several times and have had something disappoint me each time. Whether it's forgotten salad dressing in my salad I take to go with me, or weird rubbery chicken that turns my stomach and I throw out, to lettuce that has clearly seen better days. I find myself having to take month long breaks from this place and hope they improve on my next visit. It's just so conveniently located that I keep coming back. I must be a gluten for punishment. However Lately when I call in my pick up order it takes at LEAST 25 minutes to make two salads. Yes their prices are a little high, but the service is usually pretty fast and I have always been happy with my salad. I've been here a million times. Everything is usually delicious. My girlfriend is obsessed with tomato pesto soup. Our food was good however, after we ordered the guy making te sandwich asked what type of bread my girlfriend wanted for her grilled cheese. After she told him wheat he then asked what type of cheese. When it finally came out the bread was wrong and there was no bacon. Not a huge deal, the guy was cool about it. He knew how to win me over. He remade the sandwich and gave us a couple mammoth cookies. read more
