I was looking forward to coming to this place, even though they didn't have a lot of reviews the reviews were very positive. However, me and my wife came here for lunch on a Monday and we're seated very quickly and had our order taken with in a very reasonable time, however, after waiting for 40 minutes for a Panini and French toast, I had to flag down the waiter and tell him to cancel the order as things were taking too long. Please note no one came to inform us or apologize why the order was taking so long, etc. very disappointed as I heard the people by the window talking about how good their food was.... But I'm sorry 40 minutes to wait for those two items is way too long. read more

I eat at Maria's whenever I can get a chance and have been going there since they opened. I love the quaintness of the place, and the food is always great (never burned as the one reviewer mentioned). I can't say enough good things about the cafe. If you haven't checked it out, definitely go, it's worth it! read more

Please don't waste your money. I highly recommend going to the point Cafe. This place is gross. Everything is burnt. It's disgusting. I don't care how many coupons you have on GrubHub or instacart. Please don't waste your money. read more

If you're looking for coffee, do not come here. I was served the worst latte I have ever had in my life. I ordered a caramel iced latte, and what I received had three ice cubes and was so pale it looked whiter than Casper. It tasted absolutely terrible. I used to work at a coffee shop, so I know exactly how a latte should look and taste--this wasn't even close. On top of that, the location itself was dirty. The floor was sticky, and the place had a bad odor. That alone should've been my first warning. I had planned to order food as well, but after seeing (and tasting) that so-called latte, I got up and paid for what was essentially a cup of milk. You would think that if someone returned a full drink, the staff would at least ask what was wrong--but no, she didn't. I told her to please throw it out, and she didn't even ask why I was tossing a full cup of "latte." She did offer to make a new one, but after seeing the first attempt, absolutely not. Worst five dollars I've spent. Do not come here for coffee. Horrible. read more

Ordered catering for 12 people. First time, and it won't be the last! Grilled chicken and veggies was a big hit! Eggplant parmesan was well prepared and tasty, as was the baked penne. Also ordered a mixed green salad that was very fresh. Lots of items to choose from for my next order. read more

Takeout and delivery have come in clutch while we've been staying mostly sequestered for the past year, and though I love my local favorites oh-so-much it was such a delight to stumble upon this new-to-me spot for a week day lunch delivery via Uber Eats. I went with the Rustic Chicken Panini, which was just my style - grilled chicken, artichokes, olive tapenade, and provolone. When choosing fry style, hand cut are not a fave - but THESE hand cut fries were different. The right crispness and perfect salty/fried balance. Would order again. And again. And again. Good thing they are served with all the lunch sammies...the deliciousness of this lunch has me wanting to try other sandwiches stat! This Rustic Chicken was super-delicious, perfectly portioned and well-priced at only $8.95. Speaking of a great price and being super-tasty, the $3 Chocolate Chip Bar addition was the right choice. It was large and rich, a great mid-afternoon snack that also became an after dinner treat split for two - the thickness and richness of the treat makes it rank high on the 'only need a little bit to be satisfied' scale. The meal arrived well packaged [with encouraging recycling messaging on the liner of the cardboard to go box] and was the right temperature for immediate enjoyment. Maria's Café & Catering has a website where you can find other info about special menus and offerings. I was especially interested to learn of the weekly/monthly lunch plans and to go/catering options, like take-and-bake pot pie and that tasty homemade olive tapenade. I hope that I can visit for an in-person meal once things are at bay, too. Maria's seems like a nice downtown lunch or treat spot, maybe a replacement location for my usual trips to [already-missing-it] Puzzles Bakery and Café. I will definitely be ordering from Maria's again, and have my eyes on brunch next! [followed with Lemon Curd Fried Dough - served with blueberries and fresh whipped cream, please and thank you.] read more

I am never disappointed when I order from here. The food is fresh! If you like fresh cut fries, this is the place to go to ! They have the perfect crunch and never greasy. I have ordered multiple sandwiches and have never been disappointed. I'm a little obsessed with their fried dough with banana and peanut butter, don't knock it until you try it. read more

Tonight I ordered the Honey BBQ Chicken Tender sub and was blown away. This is actually my 4th time ordering from Maria's Cafe and she hasn't let me down yet. The sub was fresh with all well made indigents. The bun was toasted, the chicken was sweet and had a crunchy breaded crust. In all honesty, the phrase "chicken tenders" may be an attractive draw, but this level of quality is well beyond the packaged food of the same name. Even the side of fries was beautifully made with real cut potatoes. The previous week I picked up Maria's Meatloaf dinner for four. Again, the ingredients were fresh and delicious, the meatloaf was one of the best we've ever tried -- moist and flavorful, and it came with creamy mashed potatoes, fresh sauteed green beans, and four side salads, for about $30 after taxes. IMPRESSED!!! read more

Had breakfast here today. Would give it 5 stars but we prefer table service. You order at counter. The food was very good and served hot. I had an egg white omelet with spinach and mushrooms. Delicious. The Grits were good and the bacon was crisp. Husband had a wrap which he liked. The home fries were excellent. Negative for those eating in: Coffee was served in take out Paper cups --$3.25 for a large, $2.50 for a regular size. Husband asked for a refill which was given. Many people came into the Cafe for take out orders. There were 6 others eating in at 9:30 am. I overheard someone ask for lunch items, and they were cheerfully accepted. The photos show the eclectic, cool touches to the place. read more

We've ordered take out from here a few times on Friday nights, which is the only day they're open late. The food is really good - it seems fresh and is tasty. My favorite item so far has been the blackened cajun sandwich. It is a little spicy though, although I am a bit of a baby when it comes to spice. The fries are really good, too. I think they're fresh cut, but don't quote me on that. My husband loves the poutine. We also love the mac and cheese and the size/price is very fair/generous. However, I must admit, it's really rich so it can be pretty heavy. You'd definitely want to share it with someone if you get it. We did have an issue once because of GrubHub one night with our delivery. That was definitely on them and the cafe's response was appropriate and appreciated, so it doesn't change how I feel about the cafe or ordering from them. It's just something to keep in mind, should something go wrong, that Maria's will resolve the issue and to not hold it against them. read more

Took over an hour to get breakfast food. Literally eggs, home fries type of food. Was OK food- not much flavor. Small portions. No one was in the establishment when we arrived. Never coming back. read more

We ordered from Maria's for Mother's Day, and had a lovely dinner for a family of 12, including Chicken Marsala, Eggplant Parmesan and Penne ala Vodka, roasted potatoes, grilled asparagus, as well as two salads, a mixed green salad and a Caesar salad. It was all well prepared, fresh and delicious! I highly recommend Maria's Catering! Karen C. read more

Writing this review with ambivalence because I would love to keep it all to myself! I first came across Maria's at the Schenectady Green Market on Sunday's and was pleasantly surprised when I found out they now have a brick and mortar right on Union St. I've been there over a dozen times since they opened, and have treated many of my friends and colleagues to breakfast and lunch there. Everyone loves it! Each meal has the taste of a homemade dish made from scratch, and if you follow them on facebook you'll get to see their daily specials, which often draws me in. Meatball subs, fresh salads, and their mac n cheese are some of my favorites. On one of my most recent stops I enjoyed a delicious double cheeseburger which was cooked to perfection and served with delicious homemade french fries. Wash it down with an infused water and it was the perfect lunch. I will note, they do offer take home dinners if you want to skip out on that responsibility one night! read more

I only just discovered this place even though I live right down the road. I have yet to actually visit the establishment because once my husband and I figured out they deliver breakfast we can't stop ordering delivery. We have not been disappointed; the food is fantastic and you can tell that it is made with sincerity. The menu isn't that big however the items on the menu are very detailed. I will say the baked macaroni and cheese is very delicious and again the breakfast foods are a delight. The delivery time is a little bit longer than average but that just means they're cooking everything from scratch which I can totally appreciate. And here I am; as I'm writing this review I am ordering food as well read more

Need new silverware, take a trip to restaurant depot then throw yours out. The filet sliders are a good idea but the dominating grill flavor completely ruined them. Mac & cheese was delicious. The fried dough has a terrible oil taste. No other food can be cooked in that oil. But I love that you offer it. I would just be a worried to order it again. Friendly service read more

My fiancé and I ordered through GrubHub yesterday because we were super hung over after my sister's wedding on Saturday. Everything was prompt, hot, and correct. This is always the first good sign. We got 2 orders of poutine (for those that don't know, poutine is French fries topped with gravy and cheese) and it is easily the best poutine either of us have had outside of Canada. The gravy was seasoned perfectly - nice and peppery. The fries were crispy yet soft - we could tell they weren't frozen and had been hand cut. Amazing. Since my fiancé is, for all intents and purposes, a human garbage disposal that eats everything (love ya babe!), he also ordered French toast. THAT was perfect. They make their French toast with challah bread and spread a cinnamon sugar butter on it. I admit I made him give me a bite...you know, for Yelping purposes. This is how French toast should be made. We can't wait to try something else from the extensive menu. read more

Don't miss this quaint, unassuming place on Union Street! You can park right on Yates St. and enjoy some AMAZING food here. I enjoyed the poached eggs with avocado toast which consisted of 2 perfectly poached eggs nested on top of thinly sliced avocado with a base of jalapeño toast. The toast is sourced from a local farmers market and added a nice little zing to the egg and avocado topping. The dish also included home-fries which were large, perfectly cooked chunks of potato topped with a light sprinkling of sea salt. Give this place a try, you won't be disappointed! read more

great job with my post wedding brunch. everything was amazing.

Had Maria's cater a celebration of life party for us on Labor Day. We got full trays of: chicken parm, grilled chicken and veggies, pulled pork and baked mac & cheese... WOW!!! Every single one was absolutely delicious. People could not stop raving about the food. Words cannot express how thankful we were on such an emotionally exhausting day. The food was delivered hot and fresh and right on time... the they do not skimp on the portion size either. We had a TON of food left over. What a hidden gem we found! I know they just gained a ton of business from everyone who was there. If you need catering and they are available, don't think twice. It was INCREDIBLE! Thank you Maria's Cafe read more

Ordered from them, grubhub brought wrong order, had me go thru grubhub which I did, reordered via phone. Went to pick it up and waited 30 minutes. Did people who walked in orders. Salads were terrible, weren't what the menu describes, and were missing key ingredients like grilled chicken. Won't order from them again. read more

Awesome service , great food. Mac and cheese from this place is the Bomb Diggity. Had some charred problems on my burger one time and on my chicken the next time... but the flavor was there. Hit my tongue like a boxer unleashing on a bag! Must say... had it not been for the slightly burnt taste once in a while would have been perfect. But the Mac and cheese never disappoints! For dessert make sure you try their fried dough. Flavorful and soft. Make sure you ask for that extra love of butter and sugar no matter what! read more

I had their veggie pie and I can't explain how good it was! I was pleasantly surprised to say the least. My sister is a vegan and her husband bought it for her. I think it comes frozen and you cook it. My sister offered me a piece and I was blown away. The crust is amazing, not too heavy but light and perfect for this pie and veggies inside were so good. I didn't know about this place until eating this pie, but you can bet I will be there eating there sometime soon. Christine Rotterdam, NY read more
