Some friends invited us here for lunch, and I assumed it would be like a Panera Bread. In a way, it was. It was a quaint restaurant that had a long approach aisle with nice menus to review before ordering. They sell their bread by the loaves, and you walked past them (and some other goodies) to order. Certainly, a wise sales tactic! I ordered a chicken pesto sandwich and my wife ordered a chopped antipasti salad. Our friends had ordered a couple minutes before us, and we sat at our table waiting for our food. I waited, and waited. Our friends got their food first, and they shared some of the bread loaf with us. It was cranberry nut and pretty fantastic. After about ten minutes I walked up to the counter where you picked up your food to check on our order. All four panini grills were down (in use) and a chopped salad sat on the counter, so I assumed we would be next. Another five minutes went by and I went back up, but still no food. After 20 minutes, I showed them my order and they said they hadn't received it. They took my receipt and made our food. At 26 minutes in, we finally could eat. For what it is worth, they call your name when it is ready but they don't shout it out and it is impossible to hear if you are in the farther portions of the eating area. My grilled panini was slightly brown/warm on the outside and cold on the inside. They had rushed it and it hadn't cooked properly. My wife's salad had 2 artichoke pieces, 3 olives, and despite being specifically ordered without balsamic dressing it was drizzled with balsamic glaze (a cup of vinaigrette dressing was on the side). They said they assumed my wife's request for no balsamic dressing didn't apply to the balsamic glaze, so instead of asking us they added it anyway. She received a roll (which was listed on the receipt) but had requested a breadstick. At 26 minutes in, she didn't care enough to make a fuss. I would like to go back and try it again, as I doubt losing our order, making us wait a long time, and preparing our food wrong will all happen again. If I do, I will update my review. read more

I come here regularly because I work nearby. Otherwise, I probably wouldn't go out of my way for it. It's good, sure. It's sort of Panera-esque, only with chaotic service and higher prices. You wait in line to order and pay, and then huddle in a congested herd of hungry patrons waiting for them to call your name when the food is ready. I'd say they should invest in pagers, but that would only increase prices. $7.75 for a bowl of soup and a bottle of water -- Really?? It's tasty soup, but not $7 worth of tasty. Sandwiches, wraps and salads are in the $8-$10 range, which I suppose isn't so bad, but maybe a tad steep for counter service. Quick tip: if you order soup, they *should* ask if you want a dinner roll or bread stick with it. Emphasis on *should* because they only ask about 25% of the time. If not, they give you the default dinner roll, which I would advise against. They are almost always stale. The bread sticks, however, are divine. read more

Bountiful Bread has a large selection of home made soups, sandwiches, wraps, and bakery goods. Today I had the Bacon Clam Chowder. This is definitely the best soup I've ever tried from this place. It's a must try. Bountiful Breads home made soups don't stick around very long. They make new soups and change up the menu frequently so if you want to come in and try the bacon clam chowder I would come in some time soon to give it a taste if I were you. With customizable salads and sandwiches, Bountiful Bread offers a diverse selection of lunch/dinner items that will please your preferences. Also, the soups are never oily and always tasty. To add to the bountiful tastes offered, they add daily specialty sandwiches/salads/entrees that are all worth cycling through. My favorite specialty is their roast beef on weck. However, it doesn't end there...tasty treats displayed along the counter will entice you to try them. Their linzer cookies are fantastic, but then again, you can't go wrong with any of the choices. I've been coming here for years and can't help but notice how poor the service has become. Not only are the wait times increasingly long, but the staff are no longer the friendly ones I had gotten used to. Last Thursday I was in around 7:00 pm, ordered my usual salad but asked for balsamic vinaigrette instead of the maple herb. When I got it, the dressing didn't look like the usual balsamic. thinking they simply made a mistake I went back to the counter to switch it out and was handed another cup of it. We've always had good experiences at this restaurant. It's not a traditional restaurant, but it's easy enough to figure out the process. During the pandemic we found them easy to deal with for takeout orders and made them a regular spot for dining. Every time I come here, the service and the food get worse. Poorly trained staff both front and back of the house. Food orders consistently wrong- generally it's forgetting a key item in a sandwich or order. I love this place. I go here so consistently in the winter for dinners before curling that going for a breakfast was an unusual endeavor for me. I got a small coffee and a scone which cost $0.50 less than another local coffee shop that was close for a small coffee and a biscotti. We had a very bad experience at this bakery cafe this past Saturday. We were on our way to an appointment when my very fussy and currently grumpy grandchild announced she was hungry. We were passing by Stuyvesant Plaza and she asked to stop at Bountiful Bread because she had enjoyed a very good grilled ham & cheese there before. We also love their Challah bread, so I went in to order. It was busy, but there was only 1 person ahead of me; although we were a bit crunched for time, I felt confident I could get in and out in 30 minutes. I ordered a grilled ham and cheese and a cinnamon roll for my grandchild and an omelet with rye toast for me - to go. I was nervous because the person behind the counter was clearly new and "in-training" and kept asking me the same questions repeatedly. I told him my grandchild was really fussy and it's important to get it right and he said he understood. My order was #47 and came with a $25 price tag. I watched as orders were filled, including the person in front of me, and then I watched people who came in after me get their orders filled. After 15 minutes of this, I approached the staff at pick-up counter and showed them my receipt - they said they "did not receive the order!" I told them I had to leave in 10 minutes in order to get to an appointment on-time. They started the order and after 15 minutes - still waiting - I said just give me the grilled cheese because I had to leave. They said the omelet is almost done - 5 minutes later I'm handed the order and told "go get yourself a couple of free cookies on your way out" - which was a ridiculous suggestion considering we were in a such a hurry!! In the car, speeding to our appointment, we discovered there was no ham on the sandwich, there was no rye toast with my omelet and the cinnamon roll was so dry it was inedible. We were late to our appointment and showed-up with a miserable kid, thanks to the awful service at Bountiful Bread. Service that Kills Your Appetite A few weeks ago I went with a work colleague here for lunch as he imagined I'd like the restaurant. The physical ambiance, and that it is a bakery/restaurant was appealing. However, I was stunned by the severe rudeness of the woman who took my order, who was curt, barked out responses, and seemed severely inconvenienced that I was placing an order, though I wasn't asking questions. The server who announced my food and shoved it over to me wasn't much better. I chalked it up to lunch rush stress. Today I gave it another try as I was shopping in the plaza and gave it another shot: 3 pm in the afternoon/no one behind me/2 other customers seated. The young woman who took my order was more abrupt, brusque and impatient than my last experience. My please and thank yous rolled off her as she made it clear she was impatient. The person who announced my sandwich was ready was barely civil. The food is good; the restaurant lay out is modern and hip. The service destroys your mood and your appetite. Went here for lunch. They don't have a ton of sandwiches listed that appealed to me but you can make your own creation if you can't find something you want. Most are kinda floofy and healthy sounding. I just got a classic club half sandwich and New England clam chowder deal. The soup was large and tasted pretty good and the sandwich was decent as well. So on my way home from a trip trying to appease 10 people with a lunch choice we came to bountiful bread. I have to say the food was pretty banging. Now to give you an idea of what this place is like, think panera but better. I had the ham and bre sandwich, it had apples in it as well as a cranberry mayonnaise, that was amazing. I'm salivating writing this. But that's not where it ends, my eye may have been bigger then my stomach in this instance. Because I also ordered a bread bowl full of there Jamaican sweet potato chowder, another Home run. Pair it with some friendly service for someone who had a tone of questions about the menu and this place is a grand slam. Two things, first if your coming for lunch, they really got busy around 12:30. It went from a line of 1 or 2 people to a line of about 20 people. I hate leaving bad reviews but I ordered a salad and paid extra for fresh mozzarella and avocado - my dad picked it up for me and there were about 4 dime sized pieces of avocado and 4 little mozzarellas. I actually really like this place. However, I don't feel like the pricing and value correlate well at all. I've been a regular (couple times a week) for the last few months and usually purchase their salads. I like bountiful because they offer kale which most places don't. However as of late, the amount of food provided has been underwhelming and quite unimpressive. My salad comes to about 12-15 dollars and I'm not able to receive a container with a decent amount of kale. Mind you, my complaint isn't about quality or lack of toppings. I'm literally asking for more kale which can't be that expensive. Upon making mention of this in the past I was curtly informed that "that was just the portion". Bountiful bread is right near my office, yet I rarely eat here. I had it again yesterday and was reminded about how delicious the food is. I got the tomato pesto soup and panzanella sandwhich. The soup was so good, I highly recommend trying it. It was really salty, but I tend to like things heavier on the salt. The reason for the 4 stars rather than 5 is just that it is high cost for a lunch spot. A soup/half sandwich combo was 15 dollars which seems steep to me. I highly recommend their salads, they're huge and made with high quality ingredients. It is typically very loud in here during busy hours if that is something that bothers you. I also find myself wishing that they had more soups (3ish specials a day). Overall, their food has always been great for me. read more

Tried to order a cake today for an anniversary party in 6 days~ was told " our only baker going on a honeymoon, sorry". Bountiful Bread is an very overrated restaurant in the Capital Region. I ordered a turkey club and a chicken noodle soup. The turkey club was average at best. The turkey was dry and the bacon was overcooked. They hardly put any mayonnaise on the bread which made it even more dry. The bread was toasted, but no long enough. The soup was generic chicken noodle soup, that probably came straight from a can. Also the soup was a little cold which didn't help. The price is expensive and not worth it for the quality. Hmm, I'm really surprised at some of the 2* reviews of this place. Yes, it is a bit overpriced, but so is pretty much every other lunch option in Stuyvesant plaza. Lots of variety here--sandwiches, soups, salads and dessert. So many different kinds of cupcakes everyday! Very pleasing just to even look at, makes your mouth water. I go here at least 2-3 times a week, especially if I don't want to drive outside of the Plaza for food. They have sandwich specials everyday, and my favorite is the Black & Blue--steak and blue cheese. Yum! But no matter what, I go here for the Tomato Pesto soup. Even if everything else on the menu changes everyday, one thing stays the same--the PESTO soup. It is their signature dish and rightfully so. Sooo creamy! Came here a couple weeks ago, after not going for a couple years. Soup was as good as I remember it. Actually my chicken tortilla soup was delicious, my kiddo's chicken noodle was good. Unlike a recent reviewer, I did not get charged for the bread that came with our soups. I chose the bread stick, which is pretzel dough with I believe asiago cheese on top, it was really good! One thing that left me disappointed was that they had had no bread loaves for sale. I guess they were waiting on a new oven, but come'on now. They can make bread sticks but not some loaves of bread? We've been customers since Bountiful Bread first opened in Stuyvesant Plaza. I remember the story about them bringing in special ovens to make the French baguettes. Well, the seeded semolina bread we bought this week was flavorless and disappointing. The lemon bars didn't even taste lemony, quite a contrast from the lively, tart bars you can find elsewhere.
