Great food European slow service understaffed mess too bad detracts from an otherwise nice experience

Want a good arm workout? Order the entrecôte with bone marrow. I requested my steak medium and it was full of gristle and I could barely cut through it. As my smartass boyfriend would say, the steak "still had the stripes from where the jockey was beating it". I sawed away at the steak and I thought I was going to break my finger! I looked at another table's steaks and they too were sawing away and chewing the steak like a cow chews cud. Afterwards, our waiter asked us how the food was and we both told him "tough". He didn't look surprised. They have good ravioli though. Don't listen to the bozos who rated this place five stars! I've had better steaks at Texas Roadhouse. read more

I really had high hope for this place cuz a friend recommended it to us. I got the rib steak, bone marrow and mashed potato (26 euro). The bone marrow was mostly just fat but has good flavor. The rib steak was way to tough. My arms and jaw are getting a workout from cutting/ chewing it. The flavor is good and the steak is juicy but way too tough. The mashed potato is pretty standard. Other guest seems to enjoy their meals. So maybe I just didn't order right. Based on other reviews I read, the waiters seem to know that the rib steak is very tough so I wish he would have mentioned it to us. Service is ok. They have English menu. We were the only Asian guest and they seem to be more attentive to Caucasian guests. He didn't even ask us if we like what we ordered which he had asked everyone else. read more

Boucherie Roulière is perfect at what it does - beef. We started with a gazpacho that was herby and fresh, more complex than many I had in the last month in Spain and Portugal. We followed that with a shared portion of the ricotta ravioli in a brown truffle demiglace. We then turned to the specialty of the house. Two of us had tartare du boeuf, which was as it is meant to be. A fine example of the craft. Finely chopped, cornichon and the right amount of seasoning and Dijon. Small mesculen salad on the side. I had the entrecôte cooked á pointe, which was just right, with the best marrow I've ever had. The marrow was flavorful and not just the "beef jelly" I've had before and dismissed as not interesting. The pomme purée was also nice, smooth, and velvety. All went perfectly with a nice St Estephe. Finished with a chocolate lava cake and a smile. The waitress was friendly and sweet, smiling a lot with us and the others in the restaurant at closing. The owner/manager was active and hands on. Overall, a great beef/steak option in the 6th. I live in the neighborhood, and every time friends or family come to visit I try to take them here for a côte du boeuf if we can squeeze it in. (Note: the côte du boeuf is not always listed on the menu, but it IS always available, you just have to ask.) The portion is ridiculously hearty - for my friends and I it is enough to serve three, with the side of sautéed mushrooms and frites. They have a glass of St Estephe by the glass that is one of the better by-the-glass pours you will find. Service is fine, they know me so they tend to smile, and some of the servers have a quirky sense of humour which I think some diners misinterpret - oh well. Atmosphere is warm and casual, if you come before 8pm you will not need a reservation, but after that it does tend to fill up, especially if you are more than just two people. They do fish well, and the bone marrow is popular but I find the preparation rather greasy (and again, the portion is enormous - almost American!). They do have some lighter salads and broiled fish, but in general I would come here for the heartier fare - if you're looking for something light for dinner, this would not be the best choice in the neighborhood. But anything meat-related is going to come out perfectly, served with coarse sea salt and choice of three mustards to taste. Bon appétit! read more

My dinner here was the culinary highlight of my trip to Paris. I'd given up on having a stellar piece of meat like I can get in The States, Canada, Australia, New Zealand or Argentina. It just never happened in Europe. Located in the charming neighborhood of St. Germain, you are in for a great piece of meat, delicious fresh greens, yummy vegetables and of course great wine. be prepared to rub elbows with the locals (literally-this place is tiny and they pack 'em in!!!!) I had an outstanding piece or sirloin perfectly grilled, tender and full of flavor. Accompanied with a medium bodied cabernet, c'est magnifique! This place is not ultra fancy or chique, but it is downhome good food masterfully prepared in a casual but lively atmosphere. DO NOT PASS UP WHEN YOU ARE IN PARIS!!!!!! read more

I'm going all out with a 5 star on this place for so many reasons! It was one of our favorite meals the whole trip! 1. I love places who look so unassuming from the outside and then turn out to be so fantastic and inviting on the inside 2. Staff very friendly and stayed on top of what was an insanely busy restaurant at 10pm with more people coming in from outside. They managed it all and kept smiling (and wine flowing!) 3. THE FOOD of course! As the name suggests they specialize in carnivorous delights (they are known for their marrow), but they also had a couple vegetarian options that were great too. 4. PACKED with locals which was refreshing. Paris has great food, but it also like every city has plenty of not so good food. It's usually a fairly good sign when locals love a place. Our amazing hotel one block over highly recommended this place and their enthusiasm convinced us to give it a try. So glad we did - thanks to Esprit Saint Germain for the rec! 5. It is not, to my knowledge, michelin star or even all that super fancy, but they do delivery amazing food, great ambience, great experience, and all for a reasonable price especially for Paris. read more

This is an excellent French restaurant emphasizing beef dishes, though there are many other options. They tolerated our bad French pretty nicely and served up incredible food. The beef tartare was incredible and all eight of us had big smiles afterward. The place is in a nice district of restaurants--and there is delicious gelato a few doors down at Amorino. We were just walking around the St. Sulpice area and wanted a bite to eat after all the walking and shopping. We were debating which place to go to, Boucherie Rouliere or the Italian place next door. Well, I think we picked the right place. We ordered: Ravioli with light cream sauce Steak frites Clearly I am not an expert in brasseries in Paris, but Boucherie Rouliere had the best steak frites we had tried all week. Tender steak, really good frites, and fresh bread. The raviolis tasted like they were homemade and the light cream sauce was silky smooth. I wish I knew French and ordered the steak frites with the bone marrow on the side. A few tables down from us, that's what they ordered and it looked fantastic. This place clearly knows its beef since there were quite a few pictures inside of cattle! I wish we had found this place earlier in our trip, we probably would have gone back again for a different dish. read more

For our meals we had the filet which was phenomenal... the pork which was tender with great flavor... the truffle ravioli which was delicious with outstanding flavor and finally the Prime Rib for two... this was OUT OF THIS WORLD!! We had a wonderful dinner here last night. The waitress was friendly- very nice :0) they had English menus. We split a salad with blue cheese ,spinach, and pine nuts. We had lamb chops and swordfish. Yum! My husband thought he was ordering beef but got swordfish :0). She said she would bring a steak if he would rather have that, but we kept it and it was moist and delish! It was served with an eggplant/veggie side that he lived. I really enjoyed the delicious haricot vert that came with the lamb. We had a chocolate lava cake with almond ice cream for dessert. Enjoyed a very rich and delicious lunch on a rainy afternoon. Started with onion soup and escargot followed by the steak and bone marrow combination and moules frites. Ordered steak rare to medium based on reviews of it being tough. It's definitely a bit fatty, but I like a very marbled meat. Marrow was Yummy and decadent. Didn't have room for the creme brûlée which was disappointing. Very reasonable priced - though we didn't have any wine. read more

Worst fucking place for streak ever!!!! Do not come here. Like other reviews have mentions, rib steak with bone marrow have a tons of gristle and I can barely cut through it and let alone chew it. When I finally managed to cut one piece off it, the meat tasted like nothing special. The bone marrow was just fat. Only reason I ate most of it is because I didn't want to starve later or waste 26 euros. After reading all the one star review, I cannot resonate with them more. The waiter clearly knew that we ordered the worst dish so he didn't dare the ask how was our food - not even once. Be was joking and asking other customer so frequently, leaving us just sawing away at our goddamn steak. Terrible food and service. This place has the best French onion soup by far! The staff are bilingual and ask if you would like an english or French menu. The staff are also helpful and have a place for your coat. Snagged a last minute reservation here on a tuesday night and we were so glad we did! With the overwhelming amount of restauants in every neighborhood in Paris it can be very tricky to find authentic food. Well, this place absolutely does to trick. No frills decor, with typical parisian tables that have about 2 inches between them. The place specializes in meat which was obvious by the quality of my steak. Their food is simply prepared and the let the ingredients speak for themselves. Quality is outstanding, service is great. A bustling resturant that is a great find. Highly recommended! read more

Quite small place, with friendly stuff, only one was speaking English tho...but great food, nice wine.

Went at 9 on a Sunday night without reservations and were seated immediately. tables are not too close. We got to meet our neighbors to the right, from Michigan, who recommended the ravioli in cream sauce as a starter. We did and it was also delightful, tiny, tiny raviolis in a decadent cream sauce. Marianne ordered the house white wine(not on the menu) by the 500cl carafe, it paired well with the meal and so we had another. We went with the specials and Filet and house fries. The filet was wonderfully tender and the fries had a nice spice. This choice was also the recc. of our table neighbors who also ordered the steak frites with bone marrow, he said that steak was tough and chewy. i had the duck breast with mushroom and wine sauce which was perfect. Julie had the risotto with squid which was not, squid chewy and risotto was soggy not creamy. Marianne had the fish atop a bed of leeks with red pepper which was stellar. Our waiter was informative and attentive, the English menus were very handy, the ambiance very neighborhood like. Recommend. We forsook dessert to have glace on the walk back, so no input there. read more

I thought this place was excellent! We got there right as it opened, but it began to fill up quickly. The service was excellent and the waiter was attentive and helpful. I had the ravioli with chives and they had a ton of flavor and were delicious! They have a wide variety of food choices, including some more vegetarian options. We had the lime cheesecake and the crème brûlée for dessert. If I ever went back to Paris, I would definitely include this on my list. 10/10 would recommend! read more

We stumbled onto this place while strolling through St Germain. It has a great atmosphere, casual with a nice mix of local and tourist. Awesome restaurant ! The meat is grilled on fire and tastes so good ! All French beef and the potatoes are really well baked, the whole thing being a great experience. The waiter was of great help when it came down to choosing the wine. After dinner we went to a bar called Le pousse au crime just 20 meters away which too had a great atmosphere. The whole neighborhood is called the "rugby district" and is very enjoyable, especially on a game's night. read more

We had dinner at this little bistro a few nights ago, having dined there several times before on previous trips. This time, the food had become mediocre -- appetizers stale, steaks overcooked, desserts flavorless. The clincher, though was the wine scam: we ordered a 29 Euro Côtes du Rhône by pointing at it on the bottom of the wine list. We were served a Côtes du Rhône all right but then, when we got the bill, discovered they had substituted a 89 Euro version, from the top of the list. They were adamant that we had pointed at that one. If you're willing to accept their mediocre cuisine, go there but still be prepared for this sleazy trick! read more

The wine suggestion was excellent but the quality of the meat is hideous. Judging by the clientele, this place is for mostly senior citizens whose taste buds have obviously dulled, or those who enjoy chewing. My steak looked like donkey meat. For 50 Euros it should've come as ordered -- cooked rare. But you can't serve gristle cooked rare, I guess. This is my first time here, but 4th time in Paris. I was with a fashion designer friend from Barcelona (where the quality of produce is so much better) who couldn't choke down his steak and we sent it back. The maitre d' then proceeded to lecture me on the difference between French steaks and those in N America and everyone including journalists and visitors love the restaurant. What a sham -- I work with chefs from around the world and regularly attend degustations and my experience of this place was pure bullshit. I'd stick to Chez Dumonet - Josephine or Gerard Depardieu's resto next door to it, Le Bien Decide. The rest of the appetizers were just OK. I've eaten much better for half the price, even in Paris. read more

I'm from NYC so I am extremely picky and judgmental when it comes to food... easily one of the best meals I've had in Paris to date. Legitimate French cuisine. Outstanding bone marrow, escargot, duck, steak tartar, and creme brûlée. And the wait staff will not roll their eyes at you if you speak English. Our family of four arrived at 8:30 without a reservation and were lucky to be seated. The service was friendly, and very good. For openers, we had a spinach salad with Roquefort and a chevre salad--both very good. For mains, we had filet, and the special duck-- again both were very good. Desserts were again very good. The house red was serviceable. The atmosphere is a little cramped, but very nice. We would recommend this place. read more
