The coffee here is very good, as is the atmosphere. I find the food to be so-so but passable. However my main complaint are the prices. I am literally shocked every time I get a bill and I always wind up double checking it in disbelief to make sure there wasn't an unintentional error. read more

5 Stars! This is the Cheers Bar of Maynard. It's where the locals bring their friends for excellent coffee, a great sandwich selection, and simply to hang out and meet new people. The breakfast sandwiches are excellent. They have free WiFi and lots of space. The bathrooms are really clean, and the staff is genuine and friendly. When my clients come to the area looking for a place to grab a nice lunch and some coffee, "The Bean" is always my first choice of places to send them. I see that someone complained about the staff eating while prepping. I have NEVER seen that. I only wish that it were open later and on Sundays. read more

Dear Boston Bean House, If you were open on Sundays, you would get my unabashed five-star love. Yes, you're a bit pricy, but your breakfast sandwiches and chai are delectable. Your lunch sandwiches are also quite scrumptious, your staff friendly, and your tables spacious and easy to come by. Parking, like anywhere in Maynard, is an experience of hassle-free ease that people who visit Waltham Center on a Friday evening can only dream of. BUT. Your hours, YOUR HOURS. Good breakfast sandwiches and coffee drinks. Nice atmosphere and a good place to relax, read or work on your computer. The only downside is the service can be slow! They need more employees during peak hours. I hate waiting in line and you can wait 5+ minutes to place an order and then another ten for someone to cook your breakfast sandwich. An update to my first review... Great coffee, breakfast & lunch - with WiFi. The Bean actually got WiFi about 2y ago... I never updated the review. Bad reviewer! And, yes, I do, in fact, find myself there when working from home. Ample space. Couple of tables nestled away just enough, in close proximity to power for those long working lunches. The soups and quiche are wonderful - on top of the yummy sandwiches. On Saturday Mornings - the Maynard Running Club uses the Bean as a launching point for our "Saturday Morning Bean Runs" at 7am. Run around the town, then grab a great cup of coffee! The Bean continues to be a wonderful place to go where you always see somebody you know. read more

Been here several times and it has always been good. The coffee is stronger than your commercial brands and very good. Breakfast sandwiches are very good and service is always pretty quick. Muffins always look good, but I've never had one. It will be a must try next time. Prices are a little higher than most places, but you get what you pay for. Free Wi-Fi is always good! read more

I wish I could give five stars to this awesome coffee house, and I would if they hired more staff to cover the rush so wait times weren't excessive! Other than a longer than average wait for lunch, I love this place! The coffee is fresh and strong, the food is delicious, and the staff and the owners are awesome! And it opens early in the morning making breakfast on the way to work a pleasure. I do wish it were open past 3 pm, but I guess you can't have everything. read more

Good sandwiches for both breakfast and lunch. Great muffins. Good coffee too. Most of the staff is very friendly, and they play the Grateful Dead sometimes, which is a huge plus! I can honostly say that I've never had a bad meal at The Boston Bean House. I love the fact that everything is made to order so there's tons of choices. You can also build your own sandwich. I think it's totally cool that it's a family owned and operated business. It's a mother, father, their son and their sons girlfriend(fiance...wife..?). The new location is convenient because I work in the mill. Not to mention that they always know my latte order in the mornings =] Oh, did I mention that they're open at 6 O'CLOCK IN THE MORNING! LOVED IT!!!! I absolutely love this coffee shop! I am such a picky eater but they make the food right then and there and it is always fresh. I am not really a big fan of coffee but I had two cups all week! It was great. Fresh food, very clean, and great coffee. I had a chicken panini with pesto and a fresh chicken salad and it was fantastic! I also like that it is family owned. Finally, a place where I can get a decent Americano without having to pay for "extra" shots of espresso that should already be in it! Can get something for nothing as it seems previous post expect. This place is as good as some places in Cambridge. I feel right at home in the Bean as I come from the Cambridge/Boston area. The quality and portions of the food are worth the money. The people are friendly and helpful. The whole thing about the $5 minimum...give it a rest folks....the CC companies are the cause. Also if they gave in to every ones whim...serving breakfast later or allowing cash under the minimum we'd all do it.....give them credit for being professional and respect the lines they need to draw. read more

What a lousy breakfast experience my wife and I had at this establishment. We both ordered egg sandwiches. My Mexican wrap was served ice cold and looked like it was prepared hours before. While the flavor was decent, the ingredients didn't meld together into a unified sandwich. My wife ordered a basic egg and cheese sandwich. It's obvious that they aren't even using real eggs, looked more like some kind of egg-based restaurant product that was nuked beyond recognition. Very sad that they wouldn't even take out the time to make fresh scrambled eggs to serve in their breakfast sandwiches. I would stay away from this place. It is over-priced and offers very poor quality. Based on a previous mediocre lunch experience, the owners are never there and clearly haven't trained the staff in how to prepare quality food. I went there today and the kid that took my order looked like he just learned of a death in his family. Took 40 minutes to get a half sandwich and a drink. The food is not bad but pricey and the service stinks. Go to McDonalds down the street...at least the girl working there has a personality and you are served in a timely manner. read more

I've been there twice, and my experience has been the same. First, of all it is very expensive: $6+ for half of a small sandwich. No chips, apple, or soup included. Other things on the menu were equally expensive. Poor service: no hellos, thank you, etc. Slow service: The other customers had their food and no one entered after us, yet it took 20 minutes to prepare two half sandwiches! This is a really nice local coffee shop. Now and again I stop here for an afternoon snack. I can't speak for their sandwiches but their muffins and coffee are rock solid and the service has always been stellar. For prices you're looking at about what'd you'd pay at Starbucks. In my exploration around Boston for the best bean, I stumbled upon this hidden gem while back in my home town. I love new coffee shops and this met all my expectations and then some. Iced Chi Tea Latter was delicious as well as the breakfast wrap that I got. If you live locally I highly recommend visiting Boston Bean House for your next morning beverage. read more

The company I work for orders lunch from these guys all the time. I can call with very short notice and it's never an issue. I love their lemony chicken and rice soup and the tomato, mozzarella and pesto sandwich on focaccia. Their croissants are made in house and if you get there at the right time in the morning, they're still warm and buttery from the oven. So,so good. read more

I started coming here after Starbucks in Acton renovated and removed all of their comfortable/group-friendly seating, and I have been sticking with the Bean House ever since. While food usually fresh and good, staff is unfriendly, slow, and inattentive - everything trickles downward and since owners rude and defensive, so is the staff. Frequent mistakes. I rec'd the wrong soup and one I am allergic to - when I went back and told the male owner, he sarcastically said, "Well, what do you want me to do? Fire her?" He didn't even apologize or seem to grasp a customer could have died from their inattention to a food allergy. My first time back after not eating here for more than a year, I called order in to save time on lunchbreak and requested bread toasted - Again, male owner - no apology and defensive they made a mistake. Food is average for sandwich place. Service and pricing is a train wreck. They have one main business on main street. A few people I work with went there and waited almost 20 minutes after we ordered just to get three sandwiches. They recently opened up in the clock tower building and if you can believe it it's even worse there. Even though I was the only customer I waited almost 5 minutes to order. And then they wanted to charge me $9.10 for just a chicken salad wrap. No thanks. I was there with a coworker for an early lunch 2/6/15. Before we even entered the restaurant we had to maneuver the ice laden walkway and stairs. Inside the girl behind the counter clearly had no desire to wait on us. We ordered a wrap to share and 2 cups of soup and coffee. Now I think in fairness the girl had a cold....she kept sniffling and rubbing her nose. She then gave me my coffee....handling it by the rim not the handle with the same hand with which she had been rubbing her nose. We sat down to wait for our meal (early lunch, only 1 other already seated before we arrived). We were deep in conversation when she said loudly order number 75! Really? We were the only ones waiting. ..talk about a lack of customer service. She never even told us we needed to listen for a number....it would have taken little effort for her to walk the 10 steps and put the tray on our table. Then we discovered one soup missing. She said "oh, I only charged you for one"...of course we had to go up and pick that up to...no apology. The food was good....the service wasn't. We won't go there again..... $24 for 2 cups of soup 1 wrap and 1 cup of coffee (handled by the rim) no service what so ever. ..not even a gracious smile, a welcome or a thank you! I have been to this place a few times, and I can say with certainty, I will not go back. The food is okay, nothing special, but the service is the main reason why I dislike Boston Bean so much. I ordered a coworker a modified version of a pannini on their menu to resistance and disapproval from the woman taking my order. She scolded me because she didn't know how to ring it in correctly, until I suggested a similar alternative to her. She made me feel like she was doing me a favor just by taking my order. There is no need to ever make a paying customer feel like they are an inconvenience. I felt horrible after leaving, but then had to return a few days later to pick up an order. I had the beverage practically thrown at me over the counter, with out so much as a thank you, or even a look up from what the employee was doing. I know a few people do not like them due to the fact that they are skimpy on what they put in to your sandwich, but continue to raise their prices. Until the people that work there change their attitude and demeanor towards their customers, they are off the list for lunch options at my office. read more
