What can I say? You know you've found a great local bar when you walk in a few times and suddenly you're a regular--and not long after that, you're basically family. The people are what make this place special. The staff, the regulars, the whole atmosphere... everyone genuinely makes you feel welcome. You can walk in by yourself and somehow end up feeling like you've known everyone for years. Then there's the food. I'm still trying to work my way through the entire menu (a challenge I'm happily accepting ), and so far, I haven't found anything I don't like. Everything I've tried has been great, the drinks are always good, and there's always a reason to stick around for one more. Karaoke, open mic nights, game nights... there's usually something going on, and even when there isn't, it's just a great place to hang out. Good food, good drinks, good laughs, and even better people. Isn't that exactly what you want from your local bar? MPB's bruschetta is delish! I call it BROschetta! Their thin crispy fries are also worth a try! They're one of the few places in Maynard that stay open late and offer events like open mic night, Karaoke, etc. Great location to enjoy a cocktail or mocktail after a movie at the Fine Arts Theatre! read more

let me just say - AMAZING?!! this place is literally so so good i didn't expect it at all. the pizza looked good but it tasted even better and their pina colada mocktail was great as well. i tried the guava pizza which was so unique and delicious. aside from the great food, i loved the vibe of this place. the staff is so great and the service is quick, they are very close knit and well informed. and the place itself is SO cute and quirky we just loved it. would definitely make the hour + drive again just to try more items on the menu. read more

We were going to The Sanctuary in Maynard for a 5:30 gig featuring the soulful, singular Michelle Willson and her awesome backup guitar player, Mike Debarry, and bass player, Mike Newsom. Although we could have ordered from our table there we ordered pizza ahead to pick up at 5:15: A 10" Veggie Supreme with a couple extras. The ordering process, although on line, was easy providing room for personal needs or requests and the communication was thorough. Arriving in a snow storm we were relieved to find the Maynard Pizza & Bar directly across the street from The Sanctuary. The pizza was ready and still hot on time but the piece-de-resistance was when we raised the lid on the heavy duty pizza box. Our eyes popped at the mountain of ingredients. The sweet smells and rich flavors attested to the freshness of all the ingredients. We were glad we hadn't ordered the 16". Just don't forget the forks and napkins next time. Combined with the free performance at the Sanctuary, the under $20 pizza, and a beer at the Sanctuary, it was a perfect, fulFILLing and gratifyingly inexpensive evening out. Rare these days. I've had an excellent Margherita pizza here before, so I was unpleasantly surprised the other night when I ordered delivery and A) the small cheese and pep was not sliced (!), and more troublesome, B) the small buff chix pizza was barely edible. Doughy, no kick to the sauce, rubbery chicken. Yikes. You'd be excommunicated from New Haven for sending this out into the world. Do better, please! What a great, local place! Intimate inside with only a bit of seating but try to grab one of the places at the bar. Locals crowd around and share conversations over pizza and drinks. The pizza was delicious. Far far better than generic pizza places, the crust and interesting topping combination made my mouth water. Another added bonus is the drinks! If you're willing to venture from beer/wine, I highly suggest the Caipirinha. A Brazilian cocktail, the sharp lime and sugar flavor is a refreshing choice. This place is just plain s$&#y. Maynard has very few choices for subs/pizza, all are at best just ok. So we have eaten here probably once every other month out of necessity not need/want. Prices are far from cheap and we have never said wow that was good. Tonight's visit however was our last. $21.00 for a small salad, Italian sub and what would barely be considered a short small fry. Cheap frozen fake fries, salad just OK, sandwich just plain awful. I have never seen so little meat/ contents in a sandwich. I hate Subway and would take it over this junk any day. Words can't describe the lack of toppings in my sub. So look at pictures. Don't go here. They should not be in the food service industry. read more

Ordered an Italian sub and a BBQ chicken sub recently and results were mixed. The Italian was okay but not amazing, and the chicken was dry in the other sub. They didn't ask if we wanted them toasted and admittedly I forgot to ask, so bread was cold (albeit fresh). Pizza is good, subs leave something to be desired. Stick with the pizza if you aren't sure what to get. read more

Fresh ingredients. That's what you get at this restaurant (take out or delivery only). Hand-tossed pizza crust, real mozzarella, fresh vegetables, just as it should be. We also go the spaghetti and meatballs. Very good sauce. Meatballs excellent. I recommend this place. read more

So I've traveled all over for work and pleasure... I've eaten at a lot of pizza shops all over the US. I've been to Maynard House about 10 times before it was sold. I've only been there once since it was. This is that time... and it will be the last time. I ordered a steak and cheese (lettuce, pickles, mayo)... pretty easy, You would think it would be kinda hard to screw it up... and yet... it was. Not that it didn't have all of the things it should, because it was all there, however if I wanted dry steak, cold cheese laid on the heavy on the mayo untoasted bread I know where to go. Except I didn't want that... Generally speaking, the steak should be seasoned, the cheese should be melted into the steak, the roll should be slightly toasted, with a proper amount of mayo, the lettuce should be shredded (similar to taco shredded lettuce), pickles should be slices (not cubes), they should line the bottom or top of the steak. Then once its all ready slightly toast the sandwich to keep it all heated and warm. This is what I wanted... I didn't get it.. Its get a second star because the employee was pleasant and nice. :) read more

This discussion really needs to start again. A month ago maybe I saw a new sign above the place. I never cared for the old place. The name is the same but the pizza is now Italian style not Greek although I love both. I just got a quick delivery of Pepperoni and Mushroom and say it is as good as the best pizza I've ever had. Good luck to the new owners. Update early June 2013. They just keep getting better. My favorite is the Ferrara pizza. I get a cheap lunch or dinner there by picking up a small pepperoni pizza and it is about $5.30 usually they have to cram it into the take out box. They have added online ordering and while it has a few bugs it is nice. Kudos to Vanessa the young lady that works there, she is always nice and friendly. No I'm not related to this business at all. Well, I will go back. It has a special place in my heart. We ordered pizza delivered, and they dropped off the wrong order. Of course, we didn't know this until the delivery guy was gone. We were hungry and the order was eerily similar to our order, so we dug in. The guy came back ten minutes later, apologized profusely, and dropped off our real order at no charge. **4.5** Part of moving to a new area is finding your go-to place for pizza. I think I've tried just about every pizza joint in Maynard, Concord, and Acton. And this is it. This is the one. Maynard Pizza House doesn't look like much on the outside, but these guys know what they're doing. I've tried a few different pizzas from them. The most recent was a spinach, feta, and garlic creation. But you can't even go wrong with just a plain cheese. Delicious. Ingredients always taste super fresh. Customer service is good and friendly, and definitely earns props for putting up with my attempt at small talk whenever I walk in. So why do I say 4.5 stars? They do thin crusts, and every once and awhile the crust blurs the edge between crispy and burnt. That being said, it's never been to the extent that I haven't enjoyed my pizza. Oh. Wow. Keep in mind, this review has nothing to do with the pizza. I haven't had it yet and I'm not sure I ever will. I ordered online, easy enough. An hour and a half later, after fending off attacks by my wife and two kids about when we will eat, I finally agreed to call. It went straight to voicemail, over and over and over again. Having no idea if they were even open, I was forced to drive there and see for myself. Amazingly, they were, and the phone had been out the whole time. "No wonder it's been slow", not a joke. The pizza is in the oven now and I was comped (the only reason I didn't leave), but this place is absolutely filled with smoke to where I almost can't sit here any longer. How the smoke detectors aren't going off, I have no idea. Avoid like the plague. read more

The pizza at Maynard Pizza House, Maynard House of Pizza, or as we call it, 'May Ho' is adequate, befitting the standard New England *.House of Pizza name (sorry, that would be UNIX command-line humor. run away.). The buffalo chicken pizza is decent. The meat-heavy one seems like a good idea until it doesn't. You'll get a better-tasting meatball sub at Subway (which is not a huge insult-Subway's are quite tasty, if chintzy and limp), and you'll wait a while for it. Call ahead. They have those bizarrely comfortable contoured pressboard booths, but it's not really a place one eats in. Maynard Pizza House is good in that generally i am never paying for food from there, it's always the office (or better still, a vendor!) paying for it. I want to like and support this local restaurant and when they actually get the order right, the pizza is pretty good. The problem is, when we order anything more complicated than a basic cheese or pepperoni pizza, we will not get what we ordered. Quick delivery and good quality ingredients, tortellini as good as can be expected from a pizza place- but surprisingly not overcooked, with great red sauce. I also had their version of a Caprese salad, but was surprised as it's advertised as "caesar salad with fresh mozzarella, tomatoes and basil," and while the ingredients are fresh, it's literally lettuce with a few balls of mozzarella and tomato wedges, plus caesar dressing, which is a good combo but definitely not a Caprese (however, it's true to the description, if their Caesar is just lettuce with dressing). Side note- the delivery driver seemed a bit confused, as he tried to leave without being paid and seemed surprised that I hadn't paid. Pretty good pizza. Great prices. It was light on sauce, which I like. The cheese was high quality. Their dough was really delicious - even the crust was yummy. The garlic bread with cheese was also tasty. I went to the store to pick it up. My only complaint is that the store seemed a little dirty - really just dust (which is probably mostly flour and does accumulate very fast) on various surfaces. This is our go-to pizza place, we order from them quite a bit for delivery. The crust and sauce are pretty great, however they are sometimes a little soggy in the center. If you order one of their specialty pizzas, they really load them up. The only reason I don't get the specialty pizzas to often is the combinations are really weird. So we end up going the route of a cheese pizza and paying for each additional topping, which they can be somewhat stingy on from time to time. We have also gotten a cheese and topped it ourselves and put in the oven for a bit, and the extra baking time is often needed to rectify the soggy center. It sounds strange to recommend the salad at a pizza place but GET A SALAD added to your order. Especially the mediterranean salad! It's not the iceberg lettuce crap you might tend to get at a pizza joint -- spring mix greens with lots of great toppings: feta, olives, tomato, roasted peppers, banana peppers, onions, etc. Very good with their house balsamic. The person at the desk is always very courteous. I think she might be the owner, and she's always there. Eat in atmosphere isn't that great for ambiance, but it's clean. read more
