Cafe table with coffee cups, a breakfast burrito, a muffin, and a plate with baked goods, in a setting with large windows and natural light.

It's about time that I reviewed Boston Bean House bc it's awesome! Maria and Lorraine (and the other amazing ladies and ppl in the back) were spot on with the quality of the breakfast quality and service. We arrived early on Easter morning before traveling, and I'm so glad that we did as it was freshly made and filled us up for a long car ride. We got the hungry man plate, Mexican burrito, blueberry muffin and beverages. I always order cappuccinos and they made it just right, strong with the right amount of foam. Delicious! we will be back very soon! Also, the price was not bad at all for this amazing breakfast for three.

A much needed community bright spot in what remains of downtown Maynard. I think the coffee is pretty average, but I love the open, airy space and the friendly staff. It is a perfect place to meet up with friends or work remotely.

We had the meatballs, a salad, short rib, the gumbo and the crispy chicken dish. Drinks were a banana drink for dessert and Sazerac, which were excellent. The service was attentive, but not intrusive. I can't blame them for this, but the only downside was a group of 10 cackling hens next-door although obviously the drinks were well enjoyed by them. Highly recommend. The jazz guitarist was a nice touch as well.

We expressed disappointment, but they then checked with the Kitchen staff and said sure if you order right away we would be happy to serve you. We were thrilled! We ordered drinks and had food, and it was all wonderful. We loved the speakeasy, vibe, the custom cocktails, and the impressive and carefully curated alcohol options at the bar. The service was wonderful and friendly. We thought, oh great, this is going to be our go to place in town, we'll be here frequently! Our next visit was completely different. I called ahead of time to check on availability, mention that we prefer to sit at the bar, and confirm that they do not take reservations at the bar, but that there were tables available. So we had it in. When we arrived, we clearly saw at least four open seats at the bar. But we were informed that those seats were reserved. I mentioned that I had just called to confirm that there were seats available and confirmed that bar seats could not be reserved. Well, that was perplexing. And there was no genuine apology, no mention that they might be sorry about the confusion, let us see what we can do... Ultimately, the hostess, did checked with some folks and found that there was a table that we could have. So we sat down for our meal. The service this night was decidedly different, and we couldn't help feeling like we'd forced our way into a private club that we really weren't welcomed at. That was a few months ago, and we haven't been back since.

The place itself was clean, neat, and not very large. We ordered the regular eggs Benedict (around $21) and the chicken and waffle eggs Benedict (around $30). Between the two, I definitely preferred the chicken and waffle Benedict. It was more savory, whereas the regular eggs Benedict also savory but came with a red sauce that was surprisingly sweet when I was expecting something more traditional and savory. Overall, I would come here for a special occasion, as the price point feels a bit high for what you get. You can definitely find a similar eggs Benedict elsewhere for cheaper. That said, I do recommend trying the green hot sauce they have. I thought it paired really well and tasted better with the dish.

From the moment you walk in, the vibe is equal parts cozy and enchanting -- dim lighting, chic décor, and just enough buzz to feel alive without being overwhelming. We kicked things off with a Witches Brew that was downright spellbinding -- a drink that could charm even the most skeptical Muggle. The Espresso Martini was pure wizardry: smooth, bold, and guaranteed to keep you wide-eyed through the night. A mixed drink rounded out the trio, each cocktail crafted with flair and a touch of mischief. The food was a playful parade of indulgence: * Tater tots that were crispy little golden spells. * Meatballs that packed a savory punch. * Sliders that were small but mighty, disappearing faster than you can say "Accio burger." * Goat cheese that was creamy, tangy, and downright addictive. * Raviolis that felt like little pockets of happiness. * caramel cheese cake was outstanding The staff? Absolute charmers. Attentive without hovering, quick with drinks, and genuinely welcoming. You get the sense they love being part of the magic here. The interior is still very similar as far as the layout, but obviously a whole new coat of paint and decor instead. It almost reminds me a bit of a seafaring restaurant, but still not that different from how the 99 was with the size, walls, booths, hallways, etc. But there are other 99s and this new restaurant is pretty great overall, especially for a wonderfully flavorful, hearty burger and fries. I also had some of a companion's order, this interesting sesame chicken dish with seaweed salad and a half avocado filled with sauce, which was different and I'm not really sure why it was there, much as I like avocado. The chicken tasted great and was the highlight of that dish. The menu is nice and varied, so I'd be curious to try some of their other dishes, like the pizza. TIME TO MOVE ON I GUESS I've been to Woods Hill Table about…read morea dozen times over the years. Breakfast service when new, and many dinners since. The ambiance is polished and cozy like a posh UK country gastropub, but tables are a bit crowded. *** THE GOOD *** Our first dinner at Woods Hill was brilliant. Charming and skilled service.. smoothly timed delivery. I inquired on the steak tartar and was told the owner had a plate every night. SOLD... and it did not disappoint. Fine uniform prep I seldom see, quail egg, NOT drowning in cornichons, served chilled.... impeccable. A wild boar ragu pappardelle for entre was decent, but boar was more broken down (pulled?) than I prefer and so there weren't umami pops of flavor from chunks of boar... this is perhaps a preference difference. We had found a great spot. Woods Hill Table was a gem. *** THE BAD *** Fast forward through time and the last four meals have been a disappointment. For example, I brought a 15yr chef friend for steak tartar and frites and a cab franc... the plated dishes looked lovely but were pretty much room temperature, which makes the texture a challenge rather than a treat. Unknown if this is a heat lamp issue or room temp beef used in prep, either way the dishes were warm. Still better than the mayo puck served by a certain Boston Bovine eatery, but I was a bit embarrassed at having talked up the dish and made the arrangements. Decided it was an off night and would try again in the future: A few months later the tartar still looked lovely (a bit coarse) and WAS nicely chilled, but was tough chewing and imbalanced flavors. Still a lovely restaurant, but time to move on from the tartar I guess. *** THE UGLY *** Recently returned for a rare night out (kids do that) and the place is still packed with a charming but busy atmosphere. A charming, if busy atmosphere. Won't knock attentiveness to the table as a busy night is always tough. THE FOOD - very inconsistent I should have taken a salad as they looked elegant and ethereally fresh and light.. as if floating on the plates. On a cold winter night, I had a craving though, and was surprised that the fries were scraps... very salty... and oddly chewy and without crunch or crispness. Junk ENTREE - Icelandic Cod a la Plancha - a mess. - While the sauce was fantastic... light and sweetly complex, I wish the serving as a smaller/deeper dish with more sauce ... it was a highlight but chilled almost immediately in the unwarmed broad pasta bowl. - The blue roasted potatoes were not my thing, and I wish they instead had been little islands of puree that I would scoop with other bites or sauce. - "Jumbo lump crab" is flat out lie... forget visions of "jumbo lump crab" elegantly arrayed on that lovely sauce. You'll get a sweaty little shredded wad, tucked under the fish. - The fish... that poor Cod... was wildly overcooked and mushy. The seared crust was very thick and difficult to cut through and the mushy fish (overcooked or thawed too fast?) would squirt out from underneath. There were a couple of good bites farthest from the seared crust that faintly whispered of how delicate and flaky the filet should have been. TAKEAWAY: Don't order seafood at Woods Hill. Why so worked up about bad fish in boston (hardly rare)? With a cautious eye, the staff almost immediately asked after my first bite if the food was ok. Much like a sommelier sniffing the cork and imperceptibly wincing, but serving the wine and carefully looking to see if customers would notice that it's off. I replied the food was "OK" and continued to pick at the plate. We don't often get out for dinner these days and I didn't want my disappointment to spoil the experience for others. We had no time for the kitchen to remake it anyhow, and I no longer send food back; I cut my losses and find better spots. I hope things turn around. This could be a great spot again someday.
