If you need a fish taco, you need BO's Fish Wagon. Absolutely phenomenal. My wife and I make sure to stop in every visit to Key West.

This is a MUST VISIT every time I'm in Key West. We used to live here, so I know that this is the BEST place to get cracked conch. (I've never eaten anything else here so cannot help you beyond beverage, soda, and cracked conch) "Conch fritters" that you get other places are simply hush puppies with a wee bit of conch - if you want true actual conch you want "cracked conch". And this is by far the best place to get it. Conch is, by nature, tough. They do SUCH a good job of tenderizing it. Then they fry it up and it is oh-so-good! I don't bother with a conch sandwich, I don't need the added calories and don't want the bread to out power the flavor of the conch. I don't even use the sauce cups they provide, I squeeze the citrus onto the fried conch and enjoy it as is. THAT is how good it is here! If you want to try conch while on the island, this is the place to do it! Don't let the looks of the place scare you away, sure it's a bit (uhhh) rustic. But it's the best cracked conch you'll get. I have had dreams about returning to Bo's since the last time I was in key west around two years ago. On my vacation last week I was finally able to go back! Finally!!!! I boasted to all of my friends that this was the best fried fish in key west. They reluctantly followed me across the island until we got here on a beautiful breezy Sunday afternoon. It's outside and it's a shack, chickens and roosters walking around while you eat. There's writing all over the walls and tables. This is my favorite spot in the keys! The service is always super friendly and laid back. This time around the catch of the day was Mahi, so we all got the fried Mahi platter! It still stands as the best fried fish in key west alright. This is a great touristy restaurant. It looks rustic and dirty in a good way! However, it's a one timer. This is our 5th time in the Keys and this wouldn't be somewhere we would come again. I got the fried Mahi Mahi sandwich because they were out of the famous grouper! I also got and order of onion rings. $21.00 (not including drink) Everyone else ordered similarly with the exception of some fries as a side. Our total was $92.00. However, I suggest everyone get their main dish and share an order of onion rings and an order of large fries. That would be enough for 4 people. read more

The fish wagon appears exactly the way you would expect. It is a shack serving some darn good food! We ordered a fish sandwich and onion rings. They were both delicious. Know that it is a cash only institution, there are some places with ATMs nearby, but there is not one within the facility. The seating is a bit unique, mostly plastic tables and chairs. The decor is certainly not flashy. The biggest complaint I had was the chickens that roam the restaurant's dining area. It was a bit unnerving to have a hen and rooster staring at me, the way a dog begs for food throughout my meal. I think if I were to eat here again, I would probably take my food to go and sit near the water, which is located close by. read more

I am always amazed by how good the food is at some "hole in the wall" places...B O's is one such place, only that it is not a hole in the wall...it looks like a hut that has been hit hard by hurricanes. No pretension, no hype, just plain damn good food....you order food at the counter, they bring your food in paper containers to the table, you eat with plastic utensils, and wipe your face with a roll of paper towels. Reminded me of Barking Crab restaurant in Boston. We ordered the conch fritters, fish & chips, and soft shell crab sandwich. The sandwich was pretty much the best I've ever had...so were the conch fritters. I have eaten conch fritters at many places and these stand out on top. The fish & chips were excellent...the grouper was perfectly fried and the fries were great. It is fun to sit at the beat up tables and watch people walk by. There is no "indoor" seating...this is Key West, after all. You just sit under the roof and enjoy food while watching people walk by. They serve beer and a couple of wines but no hard liquor. P.S. Cash only and they close very early (6:00pm)...better to go for lunch if you don't want to eat before 6pm. read more

My "Guide to Key West" in the house I was renting suggested that the best fish sandwich on the island resided at BO's. After cross-referencing with my trusted Yelp! we decided to give it i a shot. This place reminds me of Le Tub or Jimbo's in the fact that it is truly a dive of a shack. I am actually unsure how this place is still standing despite the many hurricanes that have hit Key West. We ordered some conch fritters and were informed that they were out. Then we ordered the soft shell crab sandwich and were told that they were out of this as well. TIP FOR BO"s - The menu is on a chalk board for a reason. If you are out of something ERASE IT FROM THE MENU. At least they were not out of beer.... Anyway we ended up with the famous grouper sandwich and a fried shrimp sandwich. I can say that both were not bad, but if you have ever had the fish sandwich from the Fish Box/La Camaronera, BO's doesn't cut it. What a fun little spot that's hidden away from the touristy area as it was around the bend on Caroline's near the wharfs. A lot of locals seemed to frequent this restaurant. On our first impression, we were kind of thrown off by the rough and eclectic appearance that my husband nearly did not want to order anything. But after coaxing him to at least try one thing with me, he gave in and we shared the grilled mahi mahi platter that came with rice and black beans, and also a side of fries. His eyes lit up and said it was actually way better than he thought. Since this is basically an open air restaurant built around a permanent food truck, you will find hens with her baby chicks scampering around the floors searching for dropped scraps and occasionally jump on tables picking off what the previous customers left behind before an employee comes over to wipe down the remnants and trash. So many positive reviews I had to try it. Loved the decor. Friendly people. Meh...not so great food. The conch fritters were just bad. A very dense ball of dough that lacked seasoning with specks of hard conch. If these are "the best" then maybe conch fritters aren't my thing. "Famous" Grouper Sandwich was flavorless. Large piece of grouper, lightly battered and fried, one tomato slice, shreds of lettuce, and a slather of mayo. Not sure why its so famous, perhaps due to the size of the grouper... Yellow Snapper was the special, we got it grilled. It came well seasoned with grilled onions ontop. It was good. Best thing we had was Limeaid. It was light and very refreshing. A staple in the streets of Old Town, no trip to KW is complete without a visit to B O's Fish Wagon. It's busy most of the time so just accept it, get in line and pop a squat. On our latest visit, DW went with the soft shell crab snagwich (their signature item) and I went with the fried shrimp. We shared a fries (hand cut) and a lime aid. All the food is cooked fresh so if it takes a few minutes for your food to arrive, just sit back and relax, your in Key West after all. They'll call your name, bring your food to your table and you'll be munching in no time. They only take cash, learned this the hard way on my last visit. The Yelp reviews and the hotel room channel convinced me that I should go. We ended up eating there for our last dinner here. I of course, wanted the Grouper sandwich but they were out for the day so I ended up getting their fish of the day, Cajun style. The lady got the Chicken sandwich and she ordered the Scuzzy B.O.-which is chili cheese fries but it was worth it to hear the woman say 'Scuzzy B.O.' I thought my fish was cooked pretty well. I was a little worried about the Cajun style but I was told that if I didn't like it I could get something else. I didn't want anything else, and the the Scuzzy BO was pretty good-super heavy but good. I also got the Key Limeade and it was sweet, tart and cool. I think this place has forever ruined fried fish for me. And I mean that in the best way possible. While I wouldn't generally find the letters "B.O." very appetizing, the place came highly-recommended from a person I trust more than any other: my wife. As soon as we set foot in Key West, she made finding the Wagon a top priority. She'd been there once upon a time, and was hankering for another visit. I would, she assured me, be quite pleased. Walking through town, we asked a few locals, "Where's B.O.'s Fish Wagon?". Invariably, upon giving us directions, the locals would look all starry-eyed and wistful, no doubt dreaming of conch fritters and fried fish. A barely-detectable hint of jealousy tinged their words: "Mm...that place is good....Enjoy." And indeed we did. The vibe is perfect Key West casual. The folks are exceedingly friendly and the service is as prompt as can be, considering their making everything to order. We each had the seafood combo, a collection of delicious conch fritters, fried fish (good GOLLY is that stuff good. I couldn't even believe it. Each and every bite had me gushing with incredulous praise), and homemade french fries. And while these guys could surely rest of their seafood laurels, they even manage to serve the Best Cocktail Sauce Ever, and some pretty mean tartar sauce, too. Definitely a must-visit! B.O's is a must go when you visit Key West. Eating from a shack with drapes and ropes and the most random hobo decorations hanging over you is an experience that you probably don't get to experience in most cities. The conch fritters seemed popular, but we didn't that they were the ultimate amazing, so I would just start by getting 3 of them, and if you like it, you can always order more. The fish was excellent and fresh. We had a grilled grouper with side salad and grilled onions, and a fried fish of the day sandwich. You must eat the fish with the Louisiana hot sauce. The quantity wasn't that much, so we were still a little hungry afterwards. But that's ok because then we went to get Kermits key lime pie for desert. My wife got a "salad". We learned that this was not a salad place. My Cracked Conch sandwich was very good. It was large and filled with Conch. I reccomend this sandwich. read more

Saw Bo on the local KEY TV channel and decided to hunt down our lunch at his famous fish wagon. We were not disappointed!!! First of all, they have key limeade which is out of this world delicious!!! Even though I'm born and raised in Florida I had never heard of this but I'm now learning to make it myself. We also had the world famous grouper sandwich and conch fritters. Someone recommended this place to us in a shop on Duval. He wasn't kidding around. It was right by our B&B and we ended up coming here twice (or maybe three times? Super delicious and fresh. Like many places in Key West seating is open air but covered with a mish mosh of chairs and tables. You order at a window and they bring you your food. Prices are really good and the fish is delicious. We had the grilled hogfish sandwich - crazy fresh, juicy and delicious, it is served on a soft piece of Cuban bread. We also had the fried grouper sandwich - fantastic!!! Two very big pieces of fried grouper also on Cuban bread . We tried the grilled shrimp tacos and the conch fritters. The tacos were phenomenal - no tiny shrimp here. Large shrimp grilled perfectly with tomato, lettuce, salsa, sour cream and guacamole and served with a side of rice and beans. Kitschy, dive shack in the heart of the tourist zone. I've traveled a bit and lived in some pretty dicey 3rd world countries - and this place would fit right in. We had to weave around some tables and walk through an area that felt like we were passing through an old kitchen junkyard to get to the ordering counter Nice, quick friendly service by the cashier. Food was fair. conch fritters were big and hot and had some conch in them. But $6 for 3 of them was a bit rich. Also got a shrimp skewer for $9. 6 teeny tiny overcooked until hard shrimp on a stick.
