Update a year later & I finally got to eat here!! I went straight from the ferry to the area and ordered a conch sandwich and lime aid. It took about 20 min for the food to come out but was damn tasty! I'd like to go back while I'm here to try other items on the menu as well. Tried to go here twice! Once midday and the gate was blocked so we went back at 8:45pm after checking the hours which says open till 9:30pm. There were a few people at the window but the opening was blocked again. I went under waited for the people ordering to finish & asked if we could order? I was told " No, Sorry were closed." I replied " I thought you were open til 9:30?" His reply was " the boss called & said to shut it down." What?? I am seriously disappointed that the service here apparently opens & closes as they wish. You couldn't take one more order since I asked nicely & nobody else was waiting? I hope you boss man reads this. read more

Delicious little seafood shack unassumingly in a parking lot of Key West. For how hot it was, it wasn't uncomfortable to be eating in the outdoor shaded areas, and it was fun to watch the wild roosters walk around the ground waiting for you to drop your food. We got grilled market fish of the day with french fries and a side of cole slaw, and the lot combined was enough to feed 2 people. A friend recommended this place for "the best fish sandwich" in all of key west, and since we were actually near at lunchtime one day we stopped in. VERY casual outdoor place, with roosters roaming around a walk up window to order. Bathrooms are decent but not great. Fans to cool down tables, but more are needed. We ordered the "famous" grouper fish sandwich, fish tacos, onion rings and fried pickles. Plus the key lime lemonade. The sandwich really is incredible. Soft and fluffy bread, delicious sauce, crisp lettuce and perfectly fried fish. The tacos were also good, although they are served on corn tortillas so that taste battles the sauce and fish. As I was getting ready to leave for Key West, a coworker recommended BO's to me. It was funny because she actually warned me that it looked super sketchy as to not be afraid/that it was okay to eat there. I was like "where is she sending me?!" I bookmarked it on Yelp and kind of forgot about it. However after I was strolling around near all of the boats and sipping on a coconut, I was walking towards Caroline St and approached a hidden area under trees and thought "does a homeless person live here?" But as I got closer I found out that it was actually an establishment and then sure enough saw the BO's sign. I giggled to myself walking by because I was thinking "ok yeah now I definitely see what my coworker was talking about!" I walked past it and saw a few people in there dining. I actually crossed the street but then thought that I should at least stop to get a bite. I wasn't really hungry at all but it was 12:30pm and I was on my way to Smathers Beach so I figured I should get something before I head down there. I approached the menu board but knew I wanted fish tacos. However I was not that hungry so I didn't want the whole meal. I asked her if I could just get tacos only. She worked it out that I could get two tacos and it cost about $10. I appreciate that she did that for me! I took a seat at the bar seating area which overlooks Caroline St. I was by myself so I appreciated that I could just sit there and people watch. Within five minutes, my tacos came out. I could tell by taking one look that I wouldn't even need the extra sides they gave me (salsa, sour cream, guacamole), because they looked so amazing. I took one bite and was sold!! The warm corn tortilla was excellent and you can tell that these are very authentic tacos. I got the grilled fish which came with tomatoes, cheese and a sauce. I actually didn't even ask about the sauce but I think it was a chipotle cream. Delicious! I would definitely recommend BO's for a lunch in Key West. Oh man...when I came here over ten years ago, I couldn't stop raving about how their Grouper sandwich was the best I've ever had. Since then, I have been here five more times in all of my visits throughout the years. I can not believe how much it has changed. Now, I was just here MAYBE 2 years ago and when I came a month ago with my family, my jaw dropped at how much they had raised their prices. Look, I get it, everyone needs to make money. Seriously....$20 for a Grouper sandwich?!?! JUST A SANDWICH! That's insane! They should at least serve some fries or chips for that price!! Just about a year ago it was $17...that's a 3 buck hike up. No way. The sandwiches themselves were good, but not $20 worth good for bread, shaved iceberg lettuce, and a piece of Grouper. Nay. Needless to say, for the four of us we paid almost $100 for just sandwiches and that wasn't even including drinks on top of that. I will not be coming back next time and I will stop recommending it. We stopped in at BO's Fish Wagon for lunch yesterday, specifically a grouper sandwich. It's certainly a place with much character and charm. The grouper sandwich was a large portion, seasoned, and fried perfectly. My wife had the fried conch and thought they were okay but not great. We enjoyed the outside seating facing the street and being away from Duval St. The lunch crowd was steady and the owner and wait staff were friendly and working hard at getting the food out. This place is a dive in the realist form of the word which honestly are my favorite and BO's didn't disappoint! It's a little shack with a pick up out front and you might pass it if your not paying attention. There is a paid parking lot right behind it but we ended up just pulling up by the side and picking up food due to there not being much seating and it being super hot. Let me start off by saying I'm not a fish eater. Never been a fan, probably because where I live the fish isn't fresh. With that being said my boyfriend ordered the grouper sandwich which I decided to try. IT WAS AMAZING! I don't even like fish! It was soooo fresh and not fishy tasting at all. I ended up eating half of his sandwich and trading it for half of my burger lol. I had the burger which was juicy and a lot of it. Both sandwiches came on Cuban bread. My burger came with cheese lettuce onions and some kind of sauce. The grouper sandwich came with a good amount of grouper lettuce and some kind of tarter sauce. They do not come with sides which would be nice but we just got a large fries and were able to share it. I've read some reviews complaining about the price which I get but the prices were no different for me from any other place I went on the island. The fish was fresh which obviously increased the price and they base the price of the sandwich on whatever the market is charging them for the fish which obviously makes sense as well. Very cool looking spot. It's an outdoor dive restaurant with a total key west vibe. You walk up, order and then wait for your number to be called. Based on the reviews I was expecting a hidden gem but unfortunately I was disappointed. No one in our group ever ate here before so we decided to just order the fried calamari and conch fritters then go from there. The conch fritters were mostly breading and a bit over done. The fried calamari was definitely straight from a bag. Quality that you can buy at Publix and bake in your oven. The sauce that came with it, which I'm guessing was supposed to be tartar, was mostly mayonnaise. The food here was extremely overpriced. At least if you're going to over charge people give them good quality. Give it a try. Maybe we picked the two most awful things on the menu but I don't think will be returning next time that we're in town. read more
