Fried Green Tomatoes (not recommended) Mac n Cheese and Brisket- Highly recommend!
    Dena B.

I have to begin this review by saying my husband is a big ole BBQ snob and he thought the brisket was some of the best he's ever had. We actually ate here twice during our visit to Gettysburg. One very cool feature is that you can also order from the neighboring restaurant, Upper Crust, which I did on our 2nd visit. The sides are a la carte, but they are plenty big enough for two to share. The mac n cheese and baked beans are really good. I would not recommend the fried green tomatoes, but since we're not in the South, I won't hold that against them! My husband wanted to try the sausage on our second visit, but he had to order the sandwich with no bread or toppings in order to get a small piece of sausage, according to him, it was worth it! Huge dining area, would be great for large parties. Service was excellent both times.

The place is huge and its very nice and clean. It seems to be an amalgamation of an ice cream place, a pizza place, and a BBQ place. I tend to be suspicious of places that try to do too many things. That said, I had the ribs and my wife had the pulled pork sandwich. The ribs could be slightly more tender and as they came out to the table they did not have any flavor. I ordered the dry rub and tomato BBQ sauce with my ribs and those were outstanding. My wife said her sandwich was dry and needed sauce. I gave her some of mine but I'm not sure what she wouldn't get sauce with her sandwich. The service was outstanding. The service actually takes the place from 3 to 4 stars.

Pulled pork sandwich with potato salad

Food was delicious but the pulled pork sandwich needed bbq sauce on it. It was a tad dry. The potato salad was okay. Nothing special. The peach cobbler was good but was more of a peach bread pudding. The waiter was very attentive. Good ambiance. Nice selection of food.

We returned this evening. Nas, our waiter, recommended the horseradish dill sauce with the brisket. Excellent recommendation. In fact, we've been here lots and I can say Nas is among the best of the wait staff. We will certainly return. I am addicted to the Brussel sprouts. Spouse loved the Syrian Limonana drink-very refreshing but still packs a punch.

Not a good choice in Gettysburg. Sub par food. Drinks were ok. Dried out BBQ. Friendly staff. Bad sign when the restaurant was empty at 6pm.

First off, service was dialed in: attentive without hovering, genuinely warm, and paced just right for a relaxed evening. Cocktails ("bespoke") can sometimes feel like an afterthought at places like this, but not here. The La Dulce Vida was excellent--balanced, not overly sweet, and actually worth ordering again (rare). We split the baby beet salad and honestly could've eaten two. Bright, fresh, and one of those dishes that makes you rethink how good something simple can be. Mains: duck à l'orange and steak frites. Both delivered. The duck had that perfect mix of richness and citrus, and the steak was cooked spot-on--though fair warning, it's a serious portion. The frites skip the usual cone presentation, but they're crispy and plentiful, so no real complaints. All in around $200 with tip for two, which felt fair given the quality across the board. This is the kind of place that doesn't try too hard--and gets almost everything right. Would come back.

The drinks were good and cheap, between the 2 of us we had around 8 drinks & the tab was $25 or $30. Which is relatively good for 2 people, in my opinion. Was I seeing this place through my own beer goggles for the night. Let's just get into it. When we showed up in the area we had asked about what nightlife was like in the area. With it being in the middle of a cold streak we were told about several places in town that would fit the bill to have a night out. We made the rounds in town and then found ourselves here for the remainder of the night. I think what drew us here was that it looked like a dive from the outside and allowed smoking. There weren't many people in here for a majority of the night, so we kind of got to observe this place with the regulars in it. That really allows to see how the locals are in an area. It was interesting to say the least. Once the drinks started flowing we started to feel a little more comfortable in here. We started talking to the bartender to find out what was good to do besides the typical tourist stuff in the area. She was wonderful with suggestions, telling us about other watering holes in the vicinity and even beyond Gettysburg. We had inquired about LGBT friendly places within a short car ride and were basically told to go to Harrisburg or a small town in Maryland. At that point, that's when things started to get a little weird. After outing ourselves, things got a little uneasy for us. We ended up meeting the owner's grandson. He was great and seconded the suggestions the bartender made. But when he introduced us to the locals at the end of the bar, we kind of wanted to not say much. It actually made us feel unwelcomed after a bit of sitting near them. Kind of like all eyes were on us. After a few more minutes of that, we paid our bill and made it out the door. So the thing is that it's a great bar, if you're a local. Or maybe even if it's crowded, so there are other people to focus on. We liked everything, the freedom to smoke, the pricing, the bartender, but the atmosphere changed at some point and flipped the script. Would we go back? Maybe if it was nicer weather wise out, that would allow more people to be in here.

First, half the tables were empty and there was still like a half hour wait. It just seemed not staffed enough, but once you're here (they don't take reservations) there's not a lot of places nearby to change your mind to. There is a small merch shop to browse as you wait. The tables are nicely spaced out. The Bavarian pretzels were great, but they only come with mustard and cheese is an upcharge, which I've never seen as a pretz connoisseur. It was an interesting thicker cream cheese-ish dip which required spreading with the knife. The website lists a "weekly steak special" but none was to be found when we went. So we got the gyro which was decent and the Philly cheesesteak which was extremely salty to the point of being almost inevitable. The homemade chips (the only non upcharge size) were thick and crunchy. Both sandwiches were around $20 which felt overpriced for the quality. Other sides were available for an upcharge, which seemed not worth it on the existing bill. The service was good, the bathrooms were nice, and there was plenty of parking. The food was just disappointing. If you're more of a drinker, you may be able to overlook that.

We all shared a fried pickle app. Fried pickles were standard with a house made dill type dip. Dip was good but portion could be a bit larger. Poutine was ok. I'm not a fan of cornstarch dusted fries-so there's that. The short rib was tender and plentiful. Oddly, though the short rib and the gravy didn't have a very beefy flavor. So the poutine was sadly underwhelming in my point of view. The portion is large enough to definitely share. My daughter's chicken thigh sandwich was good. She thought it was flavorful the sauce on. It was nothing to write home about. The house made chips were OK. My mom's cheeseburger looks really good. It was cooked just as she ordered. She said it was very tasty. It came with like a barbecue sauce on it, but she said overall was very good. They have a rather large drink menu with products from their distillery. The prices were not crazy. That skillet of poutine was $16. Total bill for three of us with fountain sodas an iced tea, our bill was $82. They have a bar it is somewhat kid friendly so give it a try.

It was weird, why couldn't I get that? I got the portobello panini. The flavor was ok, the mushroom was pretty touch but if I cut it with a knife it was okay. I'm used to Reubens being fairly tall, this was flat but filling and the flavor was fine. Just off to one side through a door is the hotel bar which looks nice but is so ornate that it stands out awkwardly from the more spartan surroundings. The rest room is a little bit of a hike through the hotel but that was really the only issue I had. The fact it was empty in the middle of the day, with tourists all around, and literally right in the middle of town made me wonder 'what do they know that i don't?' We ate downstairs in the cozy, candlelit Springhouse Tavern cellar, which has an amazing, authentic colonial atmosphere. The food was just as spectacular as the vibe. The French Onion Soup: Absolutely amazing. It comes piping hot with a thick layer of perfectly melted, gooey cheese on top. Built in 1776, it has been a family home, the first classical school west of the Susquehanna River, a stop on the Underground Railroad, and even a Civil War field hospital. Today, you can grab an incredible meal while surrounded by centuries of history. If you go, eat in the basement tavern. The atmosphere alone is worth the trip. I kicked things off with the Baked King's Onion Soup, loaded with perfectly toasted cheese and a surprise twist--shredded beef that took it to another level. I followed that with the Spit Roasted Chicken Dinner, roasted the old-fashioned way over an open fire until the skin was perfectly crisp while the meat stayed juicy and tender. Because apparently I arrived with the appetite of all 19 Dobbin kids, I also ordered the Dobbin's Hot Beef Sandwich. Tender roast beef on a buttery brioche roll with rich au jus for dipping? Absolutely demolished it. Then came the roast beef club with Swiss, bacon, lettuce, tomato, and mayo, plus not one... but two sides of potato salad. Pro tip: dip the potato salad into the onion soup. You're welcome. The Dobbin House proves that great food never goes out of style. They say you can't eat history... but after this meal, I'm pretty sure I did. If these walls could talk, they'd probably tell me to slow down next time.
