If you're in Gettysburg, Jamilie Syrian Kitchen is a must-visit. Since opening in late 2024, the owners have done a beautiful job honoring their mother, Chef Jamilie, by serving authentic food that feels like a home-cooked meal. The menu is full of highlights, but here are the essentials: Hummus: Incredibly smooth and fresh--truly some of the best you'll ever have. Kebbee: Perfectly crispy on the outside with a savory, spiced filling that is pure comfort food. Cheese Borak: These golden, flaky pastry rolls are light, crispy, and the perfect upgrade from a standard cheese appetizer. It's a warm, welcoming spot with a great story and even better food. I can't recommend it enough!

My dad and I called to make a reservation here before a Friday evening event at the Majestic. Very easy to locate and to park nearby in the parking garage. The place was pretty empty when we first arrived around 5:30pm but when we left nearer to 7 it was packed. Gettysburg doesn't have many restaurants like this so it's a welcome addition. Overall I enjoyed the food, and while there are some things to work out I think they will get there. The cocktails were delicious, but I would have gone for a glass of wine had it not been obscenely expensive ($15 and up for a glass). I would recommend that you get the plain hummus. For the main entrees, the chicken was excellent. I would not get the Kafka Kebab again. The main issue and why I removed a star was for the service. The place is pretty big and there were only 2 wait staff. It took over 30 minutes for us to get our check - we had finished and were just sitting there. Once this issue is worked out I think you'll have a great dining experience!

Great new restaurant in downtown Gettysburg, just off Lincoln Square. Authentic Syrian food and a fully stocked bar. We got several appetizers and they were enough for a meal for two. Labneh is a must-try appetizer. Many vegetarian options, too. Great date night restaurant - we will definitely be back again soon!

Straight up five stars, no doubt in my mind. We had the cheese rolls as an app and they were transcendent. Honestly one of the best things I have eaten in my entire life. It was like a creamy mozzarella with a pita crust with just enough crispness. I also had the "mixed grill" and every meat was tender and perfectly seasoned, the rice was perfectly cooked and flavorful. The waiter was very attentive and the owner or manager came to check on us and answer some of our questions about the food. It was clean and quiet inside and had a traditional American bar feel. I look forward to going back whenever I am in town. It was lovely.

crumbs and pieces of food all over the ledge and floor

We have been here 3 times. The food is excellent. The reason I give it 3 stars is because the place is not clean. The last time we went, I noticed it was bad but we decided to try again and it was worse this time. We went at 3 in the afternoon before a movie at Majestic. There were only 2 other people in there. We first sat by the window but the window sill was so dirty that we moved to another table. We almost left but didn't have time to go anywhere else before our movie. I would hate to see what the kitchen looks like!

    Nice Bar also

Lovely spot, lovely dinner. My recommendations: 1) tabouli salad, lemony deliciousness, 2) falafel, so good (take note cava), suggest over hummus instead of greens, and 3) kafta (beef&lamb) kebab, melt in your mouth. Overall, loved the service and atmosphere. Don't skip the Arabic coffee. Will 100% be back with others.

We went here last weekend for the first time and it was excellent! The food is authentic and seasoned perfectly. The service was also fantastic and our waiter was very attentive and patient when we continued to order additional items to try. Parking is also easy with the parking garage right across the street. 10/10 i will definitely be back the next time I'm in the area.

Jallab Old Fashioned and Rosewater Lemon Drop Martini

Finally made it to Gettysburg to try Jamilie and we came away very pleased. We didn't have a reservation and there would have been a wait so we grabbed two seats at the bar. The two house special cocktails were a thumbs up. We ordered the Veggie Mezze Sampler along with the Kibbee and Makenek. It was all outstanding, lots of flavor, fresh and super healthy. The best Middle Eastern food we have had in Central PA.

Delicious and wonderful food!! Highly recommended! Our server Jeremy and the general manager Antone were extremely accommodating, friendly and welcoming! We will be back again soon!!

The only food we ordered was the wings, which were also delicious. Our only complaint was the bar staff eating in plain sight of customers behind the bar, including eating chips with their hands and then mixing and serving cocktails without washing their hands. The bar was not busy at the time, so the staff should be afforded the opportunity to take breaks for eating rather than eating while serving. I will return because I loved the atmosphere and the menu, but hope the staff pulls it together to elevate the restaurant to the level comparable to their menu.

First off, service was dialed in: attentive without hovering, genuinely warm, and paced just right for a relaxed evening. Cocktails ("bespoke") can sometimes feel like an afterthought at places like this, but not here. The La Dulce Vida was excellent--balanced, not overly sweet, and actually worth ordering again (rare). We split the baby beet salad and honestly could've eaten two. Bright, fresh, and one of those dishes that makes you rethink how good something simple can be. Mains: duck à l'orange and steak frites. Both delivered. The duck had that perfect mix of richness and citrus, and the steak was cooked spot-on--though fair warning, it's a serious portion. The frites skip the usual cone presentation, but they're crispy and plentiful, so no real complaints. All in around $200 with tip for two, which felt fair given the quality across the board. This is the kind of place that doesn't try too hard--and gets almost everything right. Would come back.

Was I seeing this place through my own beer goggles for the night. Let's just get into it. When we showed up in the area we had asked about what nightlife was like in the area. With it being in the middle of a cold streak we were told about several places in town that would fit the bill to have a night out. We made the rounds in town and then found ourselves here for the remainder of the night. I think what drew us here was that it looked like a dive from the outside and allowed smoking. There weren't many people in here for a majority of the night, so we kind of got to observe this place with the regulars in it. That really allows to see how the locals are in an area. It was interesting to say the least. Once the drinks started flowing we started to feel a little more comfortable in here. We started talking to the bartender to find out what was good to do besides the typical tourist stuff in the area. She was wonderful with suggestions, telling us about other watering holes in the vicinity and even beyond Gettysburg. We had inquired about LGBT friendly places within a short car ride and were basically told to go to Harrisburg or a small town in Maryland. At that point, that's when things started to get a little weird. After outing ourselves, things got a little uneasy for us. We ended up meeting the owner's grandson. He was great and seconded the suggestions the bartender made. But when he introduced us to the locals at the end of the bar, we kind of wanted to not say much. It actually made us feel unwelcomed after a bit of sitting near them. Kind of like all eyes were on us. After a few more minutes of that, we paid our bill and made it out the door. So the thing is that it's a great bar, if you're a local. Or maybe even if it's crowded, so there are other people to focus on. We liked everything, the freedom to smoke, the pricing, the bartender, but the atmosphere changed at some point and flipped the script. Would we go back? Maybe if it was nicer weather wise out, that would allow more people to be in here.

I'm used to Reubens being fairly tall, this was flat but filling and the flavor was fine. Just off to one side through a door is the hotel bar which looks nice but is so ornate that it stands out awkwardly from the more spartan surroundings. The rest room is a little bit of a hike through the hotel but that was really the only issue I had. The fact it was empty in the middle of the day, with tourists all around, and literally right in the middle of town made me wonder 'what do they know that i don't?'
