Great place. The Caesar Salad was the. Best I ever had. The trout was excellent. Great service, very nice decor.

Our server tonight must have been having a really bad day. He just could not get the three billls for our 3 couples correct. I nicely offered to tell him how to make them correct when he first brought the incorrect ones but he just grabbed our bills and said he'd be back. After the fourth attempt at getting them right he took off around the corner and our ladies heard him Say "JC!" Well the bills were wrong again. At this point he finally slowed down long enough to let me tell him who actually had what for dinner and he subsequently brought our correct bills with which he now slammed down on the table and said "if that's not right I'm going home." On top of that all 3 ladies complained their mixed drinks were weak. And one more thing, they add an automatic 20% service fee on your bill for a 6 top. Who does that? Maybe an 8 top but for just 6 people?? Needless to say we were upset and really disappointed with the whole experience. And there's no way I would have left a 20% Tip after that show of incompetence and incivility. We will not be back! read more

After our second round of golf for our 8 person outing, we chose this spot mostly because it has a very extensive bourbon, scotch and whisky list. But the food menu was also ambitious. When we arrived they had a table all set up for us. Our server was terrific. Very attentive. The food was really good. Several of us had the sea bass, which was delicious. The calamari appetizer I highly recommend. The place had a large aerial view of old Chambersburg, which was very unique and interesting. While we were there many other patrons arrived. Exceptional food, especially in a town with virtually no fine dining options aside from this gem. I had the pumpkin ravioli in brown butter sauce with pine nuts and grilled shrimp. It was lick the bowl delicious. The entree came with a house salad composed of spinach, spiced apples, feta, and pepitas in a light and smoky vinaigrette. Delicious. We visited for a wedding so we're not locals. However the atmosphere was nice and inviting. I ordered a manhattan and my wife a gin martini. Both were a little lacking. Mine needed more vermouth and the martini was doused with lemon juice instead of dry with just a lemon twist. The duck was recommended so we got it. I'm a huge duck fan and have had it often here as well as overseas. This duck was overcooked and dry. Maybe it was a bad day, but it wasn't great. Overall a nice place. read more

Absolutely one of the best restaurants I have ate at in my travels across the country. When I discovered this place in the middle of my travels I stopped eating dinner anywhere else. My first trip back to my hometown in 15 months since COVID-19 and I was overjoyed to have lunch at Bistro 71. My wife had the prime beef shoulder and I had the toasted cheese with tomato bisque. Both were excellent. I substituted the house salad for the fries. The dishes were flavorful with the freshest ingredients. The parmesan crusting on the bread with the melted goat cheese and provolone inside is cheese paradise. The tomato bisque is stupendous, what a great combination. My wife's beef was tender and wonderfully complemented with the aioli. The server was attentive and informative. Bistro 71 is a great restaurant. read more

This restaurant came highly recommended and didn't disappoint. The ambiance is quaint. They'd do well to upgrade their chairs to accentuate the upscale feel of the rest of the interior. The food was very good. We had the crab dip which was flavorful and creamy. It was seasoned very well but wasn't overpowering. Enjoy tasing the crab. The scallops were also cooked to perfection. They were paired with potato's which were an also seasoned (but not spicy). I had the sablefish which was mild but seared with a tangy risotto and carrots. I also had the side salad with the most delicious vinaigrette and cheese. I think I could go back just for the salad. They make a great lemon drop martini. It was just sweet enough and smooth. I compared Bistro 71 with The Tasting Room in Frederick. They are very similar. However, the food is better at Bistro 71 and the portions more generous and less expensive. So I really felt we got our money's worth. So I highly recommend Bistro 71. read more

We went to John Allison House last night in Greencastle Pa. The food was very good. However, they had a specials menu. On the specials menus was listed Prime Rib for 23.99. When we got our bill it had listed the i Rib for 25.99. We asked the waitress about it and she said there was a miss print on the specials menu. They would not correct our bill to reflect the price on the Specials Menu. We decide that we are not going back there again. There are other place we can get Prime Rib that is just as good. read more

I have found the fanciest, highest-end restaurant in little Chambersburg. It's Bistro 71, right in downtown. You'll find street parking and some lots nearby. It's a small spot with a dozen and a half or so tables plus a bunch of stools at the bar. The place is quite dark and very romantic. Bummer that I was here on my own. I opted for the hummus to start and while the hummus was tasty and spicy, the pita breads had been charred on the grill for a very smoked smell when they arrived. Warm is good, but smoky is not. Main course, the pork chop was a massive hunk of meat. Very nicely cooked and prepared with an unusual root beer reduction sauce drizzle. Sweet and perfect with the pork. Roasted vegetables on the plate as well. I'd also enjoyed the Caesar salad which was the right amount of dressing and very good shaved Parmesan on top. Totally would return to Bistro 71, especially if I can get my wife to join me in C'burg. read more

What in the hell happened, Yelp!? I rely on your reviews and this is what you give me!? Where to begin? Good or Bad?...Let's start with the bad and finish with the good. Cons: - Price - what in the hell did we just pay for? For sure not the location! For sure not the portion sizes! Where was the flavor? What were were served?... - Portion Sizes: 3 tiny carrots? Maybe 1/4 cup of risotto. And my Prime Rib - Where was the meat?! Not to mention... - Flavor: The flavor of the prime rib was not really great. Everything was bone! I couldn't even take photos of the meals because it was so disappointing. The salmon...strong fishy flavor. Not fresh. Which might not be fair because I am spoiled by seafood after living in Maine for 3 years...But again with the 3 tiny carrots and less than 1/4 cup of risotto... The items are WAAAAAAAAAAY overpriced for the portion sizes, taste, texture, and location. I cannot justify the amount we paid for the meal we had. I honestly would not care about the portions if the food tasted like it was sent from the heavens. But it wasn't. I really am getting tired of reading 5 star reviews about alcoholic beverages. Great dinner spot! I traveled to chambersburg for business and always look for non chain restaurants to eat. This place was fabulous. The french onion soup with beef tenderloin was sooo good and savory, came out piping hot. My husband got the risotto and i got the duck fat seared scallops. The portions were very generous and each dish was seasoned perfectly (not too bland or overly salted). I definitely will try new items if im here for business again. The only reason i took off a star was because the ceiling fan made the light flicker and made it very uncomfortable to read the menu. I felt like i was at a rave. read more
