Wow, so good! Pros: Nestled in a valley below Tuscarora summit off of route 30 east of Breezewood is a restaurant whose food is so good, I could only imagine just how huge this place would be in a bigger PA town. The lunch menu was full of apps, burgers, salads, and wraps, making a decision difficult. They also had specials to make it even harder to choose! So much of their food is made from scratch, from their mango salsa and freshly-made tortilla chips to their homemade ranch dressing. Had a large lunch crowd of locals, which is always a good sign. Wait staff was above and beyond good. Cons: Other than wishing Annie's was closer to home, their homemade chili could have been a wee bit spicier. Summary: take the effort to drive 20 miles from Breezewood you will not regret it!

The service is good. The place is a bit expensive, but the food is good. Been the there four times now and never a problem.

This is a follow up review. My wife And I stopped here for lunch on a Saturday in October. We shared the crab dip in bread bowl appetizer....not the best I've ever had but a solid B+ or A- We both ordered the Steak Salad. It was quite different from other steak salads I have had in the past (heavily covered with salad toppings) but still quite tasty and enjoyable.....and the portion size was very large. An added plus was the Boyer Winery special "pop up" wine sale event with a full array of wine sales by the glass or the bottle on the the day we dined.

Sushi bowl

Food was amazing! I had the Sushi salad, omg was fabulous!! People there so nice and very personable! Just a lovely atmosphere!!

They also have tea and beans to purchase, as well as some other items. They even have a cooler with some fun things to take home. At first we thought it was just a typical coffee spot, but the menu proved us wrong. They do have typical coffee menu with some delicious coffee! But they also have an AM and an PM menu with some super creative options for food. We actually were in town for 2 nights and went both days! The baked goods are drool worthy! You will want one of everything. We tired the lavender blueberry scone. I don't like scones. I always think they are way too dry. These things are not! They are massive and full of flavor. Super tender too. We also got the coffee cake. This was just okay. I would opt for something else unless you ask if it was made that day. Just meh. It was a huge piece though! Super nice staff and very efficient. You can tell they make their food as it is delicious. This isn't a heat it up kind of place. They are cooking. Their baked goods are absolutely amazing! The portions are monster sized. You will need a to go box. We ordered coffees - delicious. Grab some beans to go! Then, we ordered a smoked salmon bagel with capers, pickled red onions, and flavored cream cheese. This was absolutely delicious and HUGE!!! Tons of salmon, the flavors were terrific! Also ordered the pork belly Benedict and it was just as good. This is served on two homemade lard biscuits. Like seriously??? Absolutely delicious! Can't recommend both of these things enough. We were going to come for dinner, but didn't realize they were closed. Apparently they have an incredible fish and chips that's to die for. This place is awesome!!!! Prices are reasonable too!

We came here for an early breakfast, and we ordered: +a Steak & Ale Pie - this was just not great; it was requested for this to be warmed super hot, but it came out almost room temperature; the gravy itself inside was not tasty, and the only thing that was edible was the side of arugula salad +a Sausage Gravy Hand Pie - this was actually not warmed correctly and came out cold +a Strawberry Scone - unfortunately, this was one of the driest scones we've had +a latte with almond milk +and, a Cinnamon Bun Latte with whole milk - the drink was okay, but could have been served extra hot We felt the prices did not match the quality, as it was pretty pricey; don't forget to ask for an itemized receipt, as the total can be a shocker! The staff were super friendly, and the space is farmhouse-/rustic-chic; loved their paintings! Plenty of street parking is available. +improperly heated items +friendly staff +well-decorated space +ample street parking

We had such a great experience at the Union Hotel! We stopped in for dinner while staying overnight…read morethrough Harvest Hosts, and the service alone made the evening memorable. Our bartender was fantastic--friendly, attentive, incredibly welcoming, and even helped us get connected to Wi-Fi while we were there. Just genuinely excellent hospitality from beginning to end. The food was great too. I ordered the Hawaiian pulled pork sandwich, which had pulled pork, spicy pineapple coleslaw, chipotle aioli, and goat cheese. The goat cheese especially made the sandwich for me, and I would have happily taken even more of the slaw and sauce. My husband had the smashburger and said it was absolutely worth the $18 price tag. And the fries! Perfectly crispy, and the balsamic ketchup was ridiculously addictive. We finished with the cinnamon-sugar fried ice cream cannolis, and they disappeared in about five minutes. Crunchy cinnamon-sugar shell, cold ice cream, chocolate, whipped cream, and strawberries--and even the strawberries were delicious, not just decoration. We decided to eat downstairs in the bar area. It had ha nice cozy low key atmosphere. Which was nice. We also felt like we were well taken care of there. Great food, wonderful service, and the kind of hospitality that makes you genuinely want to come back. Definitely recommend stopping by.

Below the Union Hotel is a tavern called Mona's which is connected and an addition to The Union Hotel restaurant/12 room hotel. There's parking along the Main Street, as well as lots of spots in the back of the building. You can enter from the main entrance of the hotel and take the elevator down or you can head down the steps in the back to enter. Doesn't matter which way, just get here. We were absolutely blown away by the quality, portions, flavor profiles, and service in this little gem. We sat at the bar and were greeted immediately by a super friendly bartender named Matt. He was very attentive, friendly and welcoming. He was always checking up on us and making sure that we were always good. Service was fabulous. There's a timeline of the history of this historic building on the back of the menu. We ordered two drinks. One was an apple cider margarita and the other was a strawberry gin fizz concoction that was amazing. Both of these drinks were delicious. If we weren't driving and staying in the actual hotel above this tavern, we would have tried several other ones on the menu. Lots of creative choices that looked to be tasty based on the mix of ingredients. For the food - the menu was enticing and extensive. Lots of creative things happening here. The app we decided on was the Parmesan crusted Brussels and boy did they not disappoint. Absolutely delicious. We opted for The French Dip with fries and some magical au jus and a Union Smash burger with fries for our meals. Both are highly recommended!!! The burger was served on this delicious cloud of brioche bun and stacked high with two patties (perfectly cooked), pickles, dijonaose, and cheese. The French Dip had the most magnificent crusty roll and tender meat. Then there are these amazing Parmesan parsley fries that are perfectly cooked and served hot! We could have eaten an entire plate of these. To go boxes were needed. Big portions. We couldn't fit dessert! The bill does come with some tasty Andes mints. Prices here are extremely reasonable! I can't stress enough about how absurd it is that this small town has such a hidden treasure of a place where the food is beyond amazing. This place is a full package. If you live anywhere within an hour or even two, come here!! You won't regret this decision. Scrumptious!!!!

Just had four delicious appetizers and a Buddy Lou Root Beer and it was just over $30 (BTW- for all the people complaining about the price, it is printed next to the meal on the menu) Another great visit to Buddy Lou's!

Since starting the Washington County Ice Cream Trail, we have come to Buddy Lou's once a year, 3…read moreyears in a row. Each year we stop for dinner and Ice Cream. I'll start by saying I do like the unique style of this restaurant. Design wise. They use to have a "booth" that was basically a literal couch. It was sooo comfy and I loved it. Unfortunately they did get rid of it about 2 years ago or so. :( They are extremely dog friendly and have an additional restaurant downstairs "Dog-on-dining" (haven't tried that out). Which personally, I also love. Year 1: Good, friendly, fairly fast service. Good menu variety. And the food tasted good as well! Really no complaints! Year 2: We sat at a table right by the bar. The bartender was our waitress. (Important note because we could see her basically the whole time and what see was doing) and respectfully she wasn't that busy. But it took almost 20 to 30 minutes for her to even come to the table and get our drink order. So we ordered our drinks in food at the same time. Food came out. It was okay, something's tasted better than other things. But for the price and how long it took, I don't think it was really worth it. While eating, I needed a drink refill, again I can see our waitress behind the bar. Not doing nothing but from the time our food was dropped off to the time we finished eating, she didn't come over to check on us. Which was annoying. When she did come over she was nice and friendly, but not really apologetic because I don't think she knows how slow her service is. Year 3: okay 1 good trip - 1 bad trip, so we needed a tie breaker. Again sat at a table near the bar. They had 2 host, and 3 waiters working and probably 7 to 8 tables??? Spilt between the 3 of them. So not very busy. Fortunately, this time the host got us our first round drinks (soda). About time our waitress came over, id say we were there for about 10 to 15mins. We ordered wings as an appetizer and our meals at the same time. Again I think it took 20 to 30 minutes for the wings to come out. In that time, our waitress did not check on us. Didn't say "sorry about the wait" "wings should be up shortly", nothing. And yet again i can see our waitress and other staff standing behind the bar. Which okay whatever but check on your table before having a chatting session? Food came out, shortly after that. I got a chicken sandwich that was a little extra crispy lol and my boyfriend got fried catfish? I believe? I will give credit, the wings were good and had a nice crispy skin. The main meals were both just alright. But again for the wait and the cost ($70) it's just not really worth it. After finishing the meal, we waited 10 minutes and then had to go find someone else to bring us our check. I wasn't trying to be there all night... FINALLY! We get to go downstairs to the Ice Cream Shop (which is why we came in the first place) at 8:05 and they were "technically closed" - pretty sure the restaurant closes at 8:30 but okay whatever. The girl kind of offered to still scoop us some Ice Cream but at that point I'm over it. So we got our Ice Cream Stamp at left. Already decided next year will be a strictly Ice Cream Only trip. Such a shame because it really is a cute place. But I don't like paying $70-$80 to basically be ignored for a hour and a half.
