    New York Strip

This is the simplest review to write, I Have Never had Prime Rib as delicious as the one we had tonight anywhere I have traveled. This is a show stopper, stand up and applaud for the taste, portion size, price , and the abundance of Au Jus perfectly seasoned. Now for the New York Strip, one word PERFECTION... shout out to the chef. Our waitress Brandy fantastic and has been a staple here for 18 years, truly cares about the customers. Fantastic desserts showcased on a tray, all baked from a local bakery and so very fresh. The only downside to me was the ambiance very dark and very spread out with empty spaces, but who cares when these steaks are better than any New York steakhouse. Highly recommend, definitely will be going back when I return to this area. FYI they have been doing Prime Rib since 1956.... They're the Masters!

We came here about 7pm on a Saturday night. We called ahead to see how busy they were and if we needed a reservation. No reservation was necessary. As we entered the parking lot, there were quite a few cars but were able to park easily and entered the building. The restaurant is located in what appears to be an old house. I know from living here years ago that this restaurant has been located here at least 30 years. It has always been a nicer restaurant for the area. We were promptly seated in one of the rooms, there were four total tables in our room but we were the only table seated which we appreciated due to covid. We could hear many other people in the building but were by ourselves in this room. We checked out the menu and made selections. Our orders were taken and arrived in a timely fashion. Everything looked good. Overall this was a good experience for social distancing and service, but the prices felt higher than what they should be for what you get. The best example based on what we ordered is the shrimp scampi - rice, about 6 shrimp, baked potato and side salad for $28.00.

Service was good, food was even better! I truly cannot remember what I had for dinner but I recall it being pricy, yet good. My favorite part was when the waiter hoisted several different desserts on a platter for us to see. We had their red velvet cheesecake.

Really good food. Server was great! Nice atmosphere. A little gem in Chambersburg. Potato skins are wonderful.

Our wait staff checked up on us routinely to make sure we had enough to eat and drink. I looked at the rest of the menu and a number of items caught my eye. The prices were also very reasonable. Will definitely be back. I was told that they also cater. I am guessing food and pricing would be top notch.

I nicely offered to tell him how to make them correct when he first brought the incorrect ones but he just grabbed our bills and said he'd be back. After the fourth attempt at getting them right he took off around the corner and our ladies heard him Say "JC!" Well the bills were wrong again. At this point he finally slowed down long enough to let me tell him who actually had what for dinner and he subsequently brought our correct bills with which he now slammed down on the table and said "if that's not right I'm going home." On top of that all 3 ladies complained their mixed drinks were weak. And one more thing, they add an automatic 20% service fee on your bill for a 6 top. Who does that? Maybe an 8 top but for just 6 people?? Needless to say we were upset and really disappointed with the whole experience. And there's no way I would have left a 20% Tip after that show of incompetence and incivility. We will not be back!

I had…read moreunusual work travel north of Hancock, MD and was visiting my parents in Lancaster, PA that night. I made a gigantic sideways U on the map from my home in the Baltimore area to Needmore area to Chambersburg including Hoss's for dinner to my parents in Lancaster. I asked my friend, who went to college at Dickinson many years ago, if he had any recommendations in PA for dinner that I can't get in MD. He recommended Hoss's. I rarely do buffets as they are unhealthy, but when in Rome, Hoss's was nearby, and I was game to try them out. I asked if I could view the buffet before I decide to eat here. Price is a bit high, but nothing crazy. Upon viewing the buffet, I determined overall a good looking buffet with both salad/cold foods & the hot foods. It's not a huge buffet like a Golden Corral, but far superior to that weak place. So, you order a steak or whatever off their menu with options for the salad bar & hot buffet section. I got the "Hoss's Choice" , which was the Steak Tips. It was the cheapest option, and I didn't want a huge steak as I was more interested in the buffet. Staff & server was nice and prompt with water refills. Much of the buffet items were good including the salad, chili, mac n' cheese, & soup. My steak tips came with a side of my choice, which I got the baked sweet potato. I think the baked sweet potato was my favorite. But the steak tips were solid. I remember liking the chili. Mac n' cheese was kind of weak. Majority of the buffet items were good, but there were a couple of things that were weak, which is standard for any buffet, even a good one. As if all the buffet food plus my entree weren't enough, eventually it was time was dessert. I got a couple of desserts like a mousse & ice cream with various toppings I added including Oreo, a liberal amount of caramel, gummy bears, & more. My sweet tooth was running high, and it was delicious too. If ever in Chambersburg or one of their other 28 locations, I'd consider Hoss's as a reasonable option.
