The sour dough rolls were good but the fridge-cold butter didn't melt well. Salad was fresh but I'd ask for the dressing on the side as there was a lot. The haddock was fine - though a bit over cooked - with shaved Parmesan. The mixed veggies were ok. I was a bit disappointed for the price and ratings I saw. Beautiful restaurant! The restaurant has a very cozy atmosphere. The staff were all very attentive to us from the moment we arrived. The menu for lunch was simple and offered a wide selection of food. They have all of the normal lunch fare such as burgers, wraps, sandwiches, and salads. They also have entree items to choose from. Our server was very polite and we were never in need of anything for our meal. Even refills took no time at all. The food was cooked perfectly for our party of five. No complaint whatsoever. One point I would make is that it is not what some might call inexpensive. The two dollar signs on the Google search is accurate. However it was in no way overpriced! The food was exceptional and the entire experience was wonderful. If you are in the area, make a point to eat here for lunch or dinner. I am sure will be glad you did. read more

We went there for my daughter's birthday, and it was beautiful, we all had something different and it was all delicious, I don't know what they did to their French Onion soup, but I have never tasted something so deep and intense, it was Amazing my 10 year old ate an entire bowl of it by herself and loved it, as did I. To celebrate our 15 years together, my girlfriend and I chose to try the Copper Kettle. After living and working in the area for over eight years, I had never been there. Upon arriving, the newly remodeled interior teased an elegance that unfortunately the kitchen was unable to fulfill. I can't fault our server Whitney who provided above par service, nor can I blame the bartender that made our expertly crafted drinks. It tanked the moment we began to receive our food. For an appetizer, we chose the queso dip. To their credit, the flour tortilla points were deep-fried perfectly. Not to their credit was the queso itself. It should have been the star and yet was the nemesis. What we got gave me a flashback to my twenties when 7-Eleven nachos were one of my four food groups. The bowl with the cheese was obviously put under a broiler to brown the top. The result was canned nacho cheese hiding under the crusty exterior. The sad thing is they didn't even attempt to hide their treachery by, for instance, mixing in some canned chopped chilies and to add insult to injury, it was cold on the bottom. I didn't burden our server and the travesty continued. I ordered the prime rib which according to the menu was "...hand-rubbed with our own blend of spices and served with au jus." and what tasted more akin to Montreal steak seasoning and canned au jus. Our sides were a baked potato and the special mac and cheese. I consider myself a foodie and decent cook. I have dozens of times made macaroni and cheese as well as boxed versions. What we received was a travesty to even box versions. It was simply macaroni tossed in some really bad squeeze cheese. It had little-to-no cheese flavor and looked entirely synthetic. With so many great restaurants in Chambersburg, I'm not really sure where they think they're going to go with this. So much wasted potential. read more

First, let me say that I am not reviewing the food from the Copper Kettle, as our visit didn't last long enough to get to try anything from the menu. In fact, our server took our drink order and disappeared for 22 minutes before we left. Allow me to explain... Yes, it's Covid time, so things aren't to be as efficient as usual, so my wife and I try to carry extra patience with us when supporting local businesses. On this particular Saturday night, we had reservations and were promptly seated in a room separate from the larger dining area. A bit odd that we were the only patrons in the room, even odder that only nails were on the wall (no decor), but we were greeted by a server within minutes and she promptly took our drink order. She then recited the specials for the night and mentioned that two sides came with the entrees. When I asked about the options for sides, she said, "I'll wait til I bring your drinks back. Customers always forget their options, so I end up repeating myself." OK, I thought. Odd, but OK. A few minutes later, an employee came into the room and bussed a nearby table. We small-talked and then she left. A few more minutes passed and then another few more minutes and then another. At the 20-minute mark, my wife and I decided to give our server a couple more minutes to return with our drinks. My wife even went for a walk to see if she could find our server--no luck. At the 22-minute mark, we decided our patience had run dry and promptly left without drinks and without food. A couple days later, I reached out to the Copper Kettle via email to express my concern with our first visit. I complimented them for their high ratings and the referrals I had received from friends. Then I gave a brief version of our experience. To "Billy"'s credit, he got back to me within a day or so and apologized sincerely for our poor service. He also offered to send a gift card if we were willing to give the Copper Kettle another chance. Of course, I said. I'm always willing to give second chances. Nine days passed and we still didn't receive a gift card. I wrote back to Billy and explained that while I appreciated his offering the card, I still hadn't received it. He said he was certain he had sent it but, just in case, he'd drop another one in the mail. That was October 15th. Today is the 28th, and I still don't have a gift card. Maybe it's still the mail (somewhere along the 20-mile stretch). Maybe two gift cards disappeared somehow--who knows? Nonetheless, despite the great reviews of this establishment, I wanted to share my experience with our visit and the follow-up that never followed through. read more

Oh my goodness!! This place is at the top of my list!! Our first time here. I got the salmon special and the salmon was cooked to perfection. A light crust on the outside and tender and moist on the inside. It was served over veggies that were also cooked perfectly. My compliments to the chef! Hubby got prime rib. My husband and I have made this our favorite spot in Chambersburg. The food is delicious and worse every penny. It is a little pricey for a small town. But once you've eaten there you will understand it's worth it. The chef is phenomenal. If you're lucky you might just get some bread pudding! Very disappointed with my meal. It has been several years since I visited this restaurant and I remember a much better place. My Ahi Tuna appetizer was less than appetizing; poorly done. The chicken was dry, chewy and bland. Can't say I was impressed at all. My husband had an Alfredo dish which was again bland and tasteless. The couple we went with also complained about their meals as well; one was the prime rib which is what their specialty is supposed to be (I don't think so). Definitely not worth the price which is in the $$-$$$ price range. The only good thing about this restaurant was the wait staff. We had a waiter who was excellent. When we got there the host was professional and sat us in one of the 4 front dining rooms. It had pictures of tall ships and nautical items. The room was clean as a hospital but warm and inviting. The wife got Lobster Bisque and I got the snapper soup (turtle) and a crab cake. Just to see what the wife would be getting for her main. The wife about launched out of her seat at the flavor of her bisque and had me try it. It was SOO flavorful! I ate my Snapper in 40 seconds flat! It was one of the best Turtle soups I have had. I got the house cut Prime Rib medum. It was out of this world! Juicy and tender great flavor and the sauteed mushrooms were great as well. The wife got the sirloin and crab cake, medium as well. The sirloin was flavorful and the crab cake. . ohhh the crab cake! The crab cake is at a 2:1/8 ratio crab:breading. nice chunks of crab and great plain or with butter and/or lemon! For desert I got a piece of chocolate fudge cake and an Irish Coffee. The wife got a slice of inhouse lemon marange pie. My cake was moise and sooo full of chocolate goodness. The wife's lemon was delicious as well. the leamon cream addition to the pie set it over the top as did the house made whipped cream!! You can't go wrong with this place. I've been going there for 30 years and stopped back in again last night. The bartenders know how to make great drinks, including my favorite the Moscow mule. Last night I had the New York strip it was perfectly cooked the kettle fries were wonderful, and the dessert was delicious. Although I don't eat seafood my friends had the crab cakes and they absolutely loved them. It's become more casual now and they have done a lot of redecorating which makes it look so much more updated. I will be back in here again real soon. I had the complete and utter misfortune of dining at this horrible establishment this Saturday evening. I was with a few friends and we received horrifyingly rude service. The food we ordered was similarly vile - the buffalo calamari tasted like a mouthful of flour and the stuffed haddock I ordered was still a bit frozen (it appeared to have come from some sort of package). My friends were also displeased with their chicken alfredos - very sour. The worst part was that the bill was over $30 per head AND the restaurant still tacked on a mandatory 20% gratuity. Let me preface this by saying I wasn't starving hungry when we got here. It's an old place with charm-white tablecloths, small rooms, quaint. Feels a little fancy, but really isn't pretentious. We started with shrimp nachos. They were good. Could've used more cheese I thought, but it was a big plate full. I ordered the crab cake, and hubby got a New York strip with crab cake. The crab cake was good, but I thought a little small. Hubby's steak was exceptionally delicious. We both got these potato wedges which were really good. One complaint I have is that when Hubby was asked if he wanted onions and mushrooms with his steak, and he did indeed get them, they were $3 extra for each. Why? Just why? Onions are cheap, and maybe I am too, but they should be gratis. That's my main negative, but it's those little things that get me. Overall, food and service was great. We really enjoyed our dinner last night, which was Veterans Day. We tried the snapper soup, which was very tasty and a nice option that you don't see on every menu out there. We also had the crab stuffed mushrooms, which were excellent. Both of us got prime rib with Greek salad as a side. The prime rib was cooked perfectly and delicious. I will say just a tiny bit over salted on the au jus, but I loved the presentation and the horseradish. My baked potato was a bit boring and served with butter and sour cream packets on the side. My husband's au gratin potatoes were really good. A few little notes, the service highlight was Billy, the assistant manager. He made our experience very good in the service department and we really enjoyed the opportunity to chat with him for a minute or two. Without him, service wouldn't have been as good. My salad came out with no dressing, which was quickly rectified, and we ordered tiramisu for dessert and got pumpkin cheesecake, but it smelled great so we ate it anyway, and we weren't disappointed. We will definitely be back because of the attention to detail and the freshness and quality of our meal. We are looking forward to our next visit. read more

Wow... Wow... Just Wow... you know we have those posts where we don't want to put any stars but have to... this is completely the opposite... I would love to give this place more than 5 stars! It was absolutely phenomenal! From the service to the food, to the ambiance... just almost perfect. Angelo, the manager/owner (?) was there to greet us as we walked in to the door, took right to our seats in a little dining area with one other family there. The restaurant itself is separated in to separate rooms... it must have been a home before or something; really quaint; and it looked like it went pretty far back. Anyway, not long after we sat down, our server Kylene appeared and gave us our menus. She was so delightful and sweet, it was infectious. She was extremely well spoken for someone who seemed so young, and she knew her menu inside and out to include all the drinks (wine, beer, and specialty). The timing of the service was expert which was SO great as it gave us time to actually enjoy one part of the meal to the next. So up first was the appetizers... I chose a bowl of the Lobster Bisque (my favorite soup in the whole world), and this I think was the best I have had to date. My BF who isn't really a fish fan, really liked it too. We also got the potato skins... oh, wow... Definitely the BEST potato skins we have ever had! They were cut in to nice size rounds and were fried to a perfect level of crispiness and topped with cheese, sour cream, and bacon. They were in a word - amazing. On to the food... after a very difficult time deciding for me, I ordered the Baked Halibut with jasmine rice and asparagus. My boyfriend ordered the 16 oz Prime Rib. Both entrees came with two sides. For mine, I chose the asparagus because I wanted extra and wanted to share with the BF. I also ordered extra jasmine rice because that's my favorite rice. My fish had a great cook on it and was covered in spices and cheese. The asparagus sadly was very saggy and didn't taste very fresh at all. I was expecting a couple of nice sized fresh stalks... these looked like they came out of a can. Disappointing but the rest of the meal and experience was so great that I overlooked that aspect. The rice was great; its jasmine rice after all lol. My BF's prime rib, he realized after he ordered it, ordered the wrong cook; he meant to order rare, but got Med-Rare... I was astounded! You never eat Prime Rib Med--Rare!!! LOL BUT, again, this was A-MAZING. I think it actually tasted better than the last prime rid I had which I ordered Rare at another restaurant last month. It was excellent! He has a salad and mashed garlic mashed potatoes with his- best prime rib dinner I've tasted in a while. Kylene also recommended the Gorehead Beer (??) wow, it really was excellent! It's a beer apparently brewed for PA. Sadly we had no room for dessert and knew we would not eat it if we got it to go but it looked great! Angelo also was seen several times roaming the rooms checking in on his guests... he came in to our room a couple of times to check in on us, see how we were doing, how the service was, and how the food was... that was refreshing to see. We took my boyfriend's mother here for her birthday. None of us had been here before, and we were absolutely amazed by how good our experience was. We had a party of 8, and were seated in a private room. The service was great, and the manager stopped by to ask us how everything was and let us know he was going to pass our compliments to the kitchen staff. The food was fantastic. I had the lobster cakes, but tried bites of their famous prime rib as well. It is rightfully famous. Absolutely delicious. It's pricier than the rest of town, but for the superior quality of food, the overly generous portion sizes, and the atmosphere make it more than worth it! We absolutely will be back! In town for a meeting and wanted a good steak. This place had mixed reviews so I gave it a try. It is in an old house - very easy to miss! It was a Monday evening and I was dining alone. Seated quickly and took my drink order. Started with a cup of French onion soup. It was VERY good! They had a special for November - prime rib for $19.99. I almost ordered it, but went with a ribeye cooked medium. For sides I had mashed potatoes and creamed corn. The food came out quickly, just as I finished my soup. The ribeye was HUGE and was cooked a little more med well than medium, but was still very tender and juicy. Some reviews complained their steaks weren't seasoned well. If it's a good cut, it doesn't need much - which was the case with my steak. Just a little salt and pepper. I saw the dessert tray and everything looked delicious, but I was pretty full already. This is not an Outback or Texas Roadhouse. The steaks, sides and service was on point. My soup, entree and iced tea came to about $35. Well worth a great meal! My husband ordered the cowboy steak which was a ribeye with cheddar cheese melted on top and BBQ sauce. He said it was good but the cheese added nothing. I had the ribeye and crab cake. The ribeye was cooked correctly but lacked flavor. The crab cake was FANTASTIC and I wished I had just ordered the two crab cake dinner. I mentioned it to the waitress very politely as I normally don't complain but this steak should have never left the kitchen. I got 3in x 4.5in of meat for $31. She tried to explain that it's a fatty cut of steak and that's normal. I thought she was bringing a desert to make up for it but I found it on my bill in the end. Ultimately, she acted offended for me bringing it up and avoided addressing the situation or me. Very disappointed. They have a nice menu with good stuff on it.
