It was a plate of cold, unseasoned sauerkraut with 2 small pieces of chewy pork accompanied by a lump of instant mashed potatoes. It was disgusting. Sister and I were traveling, wanted something close to I81. I was skeptical based on the 3.5 stars...but we stopped, took a chance. The table we were seated at was dirty, place wasn't busy, strike 1. Waitress arrived, took our drink orders, and disappeared into the great beyond. When she finally showed up again, hands full of dirty dishes, I quickly said "we're ready to order when you have a minute". I got a look of disgust from her and she replied snappily, "I'll be back in a minute, my hands are full", the welcoming vibe pouring from her pores. I looked at my sister and rolled my eyes, and said something about the 3.5 stars are already giving them credit, as the cleanliness and attitude are not deserving of even that. She must have heard me because when she came back to the table, her sticky sweetness was flowing from her gums. Aside from that, the food was really good. I got a western omelet with wheat toast and home fries, though it was more like hash browns. My sister got 2 eggs over medium, home fries and white toast. The wheat toast was very light in color, I had to check to confirm it was wheat. If you're looking for A good breakfast, I can recommend this place. If you're looking for friendly service, and a spotless table, this isn't for you. Another bonus...you can pay ur bill on your mobile so no need to wait for the waitress to take the payment. Food was good, especially for the price! Steak was a little more on the fattier side, but the flavoring was great! We all enjoyed our food! Coffee was good as well. Our server was nice and on top of it. This was our first time here & it was a great experience. Definitely have a returning customer. Parking lot has a decent amount of parking which is nice! This place has been through three name changes in the not too distant past. It started as the Chambersburg Diner, then New Chambersburg Diner, and most recently , Sunrise Diner, the same owner as the New Chambersburg Diner but with an added partner. It's a nice, spacious place with comfortable seating if you get past the fact that the booth bench seat in much lower than other places making it more difficult for a 5'11" person to be level or ideally able to have the arms easily reach the food and tabletop. The service was very nice, patient, and accommodating. The menu is typical diner food, a good variety for most people who eat the normal American diet but very poor variety for people looking to eat healthier and avoid unnecessary disease and premature death. Sure, you can ask the server to omit the meat and/or dairy ingredients they add, but you still pay for it. Not a good financial decision in my head - paying for something I don't get when the food establishment gets 100% gross profit from my wanting to eat healthy. I tried the plain English muffin toasted and it was very disappointing and clear it was mass produced garbage with no taste and just tasted like paste. I ate just a few bites and spit it out, yuck! Not much on the decent sized menu for a person trying to avoid being overweight, get cancer or a cardiovascular disease, etc. to choose from, so I ordered the French onion soup minus the croton/hunk of bread at the bottom and minus the glob of melted saturated fat, aka cheese. The crock came out and was surprisingly small, maybe the size of a cup at best. It cost $5.99 while the other soups in a cup cost $3.50. At first sip, I quickly found it was overwhelmingly salty, which overtook the broth taste. I tried a spoonful and confirmed it was indeed horrible! Way too much salt. If not for the heavy handed salting, it could have been a decent tasting soup. The fact that the owners haven't yet claimed this business on Yelp despite changing the name months ago is interesting given the last two names had less stellar reviews here. Maybe ignoring actual unbiased reviews from actual customers could help them improve and succeed this time instead of keeping the head in the sand. The better choice is right across the street at the Trojan Diner. One need only look at how many cars of customers are there versus here at anytime to see which people think is best. The prices here are slightly more expensive in nearly every category of food than other places and even higher for some items but not to the point it would prevent me or others from being a customer. If you don't mind slightly higher prices, less than healthy food (but in all fairness, the same unhealthy food most places serve too), and at least in some cases, overly salted food, while accepting the fact that most diners are using more and more mass produced, less tasty food items to keep rising costs in balance, then this place may be of interest as it's a good atmosphere with good service and an okay price. I may return here in the future when in the area again to give it another chance. Meanwhile I cannot recommend the place. read more

I would not recommend this place. The food was unseasoned and overcooked. The waitress was a laugh. First she I didn't have a pad to take our order. Then she came back with a pad but no pen. Yes I can stereotype this place and guess it was not going to be five stars .service was actually pretty good. They were very attentive. And friendly. Portions were decent for the money. Flavor on what I ordered was average are a little above. (It's a dinner ) I will be back I and been to many places 10 times worse than here . It is worth trying.4 stars maybe pushing it. The manager of this restaurant refused to seat my husband & I with my service dog (seizure response dog). We had forgotten his service vest which is actually not required by law, but I always wear it on him, because it makes things simpler. The manager immediately became irritated & told us we couldn't stay because the dog did not have "markings". I explained that Federal law didn't require a vest; however, I did have his certification card. She refused to accept this card also stating it was "borough policy" that the dog had to be marked. I went to my car and retrieved cards that I carry that explain Federal law on service dogs in public places. She refused to take it and stated "I don't want that." She embarrassed both my husband & I in front of the other customers in the way that she handled this situation. We had to leave and driver further to find another restaurant. The sad part was that my husband has cancer and his appetite comes & goes due to chemo. He was hungry this day, so we wanted to enjoy a nice breakfast before his appetite disappeared again, and she turned what could have been a nice breakfast into an embarrassing situation because of ignorance of the law and refusal to be educated on the law. I really liked this restaurant at first. I went there for a couple of years. Last 4 times, service and food was really terrible. The last time "for breakfast", it came out in 3 different sections. The Server yelled at me saying it wasn't her fault, go blame the cook. I stopped eating at this point left a $5 tip and a $20 with the cashier. I had mentioned before to the owner about cold eggs and fried and he looked at me like I had just kicked his dog. I didn't want compensated, I just wanted better service and a meal that was eatible. Stopped here Saturday morning for breakfast on the way through Chambersburg. The thing that stood out the most to me was the service. Our waitress, Linda, was outstanding with her service. Coffee cup was never empty and empty plates never stayed on the table very long. She was pleasant and personable and always attentive to her customers needs. Food was good and wholesome. The service was very unprofessional. After my Uber eats delivery order was cancelled, the manager and a waitress attempted to prevent me from leaving the restaurant and called the police on me for not taking the food and tried to make me pay for it. This was an issue to take up with Uber and I explained that to him. I also attempted to resolve the issue with customer service. In the end the police explained to them that it wasn't anything I was responsible for and to contact Uber. In the end I was banned from the restaurant and totally humiliated, but I do not plan to return to this place EVER. read more
