Fried fish sandwich with a side of their homemade chips
Cianah H.

Since I'm a ShipU alumni, ugrille was always a go to for cheap drinks and good food. This past Saturday, we were in town helping my brother move out of his apartment, and it's sad because that'll probably be my last time coming here. The service here is always phenomenal! So polite and patient! Here are a few of my recommendations: The fried fish sandwich (easily my favorite and a good amount of food for the price!) Ham and cheese panini Mozzarella sticks Pink penguin cocktail Orange crush (idk what they put in their orange crushes but they're like the best ones I've had!)

Seafood lasagna

Great place locally. We had a group of 8 adults and everything was done to perfection. I really enjoyed the fried green tomatoes as an appetizer

a glass of beer on the bar

Pleasantly surprised when I found this place on a business trip. Just had the sirloin with salad and broccoli, plus a Sam Adam's and everything was great! Nice vibe and great service at the bar. Plus they do nightly specials so I'll definitely be back

French Onion Soup at University Grille in Shippensburg
Bruce K.

Fancy dinner in downtown Shippensburg, the University Grille is the hotel restaurant and so it's dark and warm. Higher end meals, which I'm fine with. I had the French Onion soup to start and it was topped with a thick layer of those fried onion string things. I've not had that before but it was easily lifted and set aside. The thick layer of cheese was melted, the soup was thick and it was hot. All good so far. Main course, chicken parmesan. A layer of angel hair tossed with marinara sauce and then topped with some chicken breast that was then topped with melted cheese. It was good. Large portion, tasty. Nicely plated. Some extra shredded cheese would have been better, but that's just me.

Filet mignon and baked potato.

We were here a few times for appetizers and drinks with friends. Prefer small plates here vs. dinner.

Very average. Typical for small town. Service was pleasant, but food is like stepping back in to the 70's.

My wife had the fish and chips. Food was good and plentiful. Service was very good, ate with some old friends, there was no rush, they gave us plenty of space. The menu is varied, specials are not typical fare, but also do not become science projects like so many "creations" do. The food is left to speak for itself. Affordable. Two small criticisms, can be loud in certain areas. They are very accommodating in moving you. The parking lot. Walking over the bridge can be an issue with cars. Worth the trip.

The broth is rich and deeply savory, the cheese pull is perfect, and the crispy rings add a texture you never knew the classic was missing. The pork chop remains the star of the menu--huge, expertly seasoned, and cooked with precision. It's widely considered the best in the city, and honestly might be the best in the state. Juicy, tender, and full of flavor, it's the kind of entrée you end up recommending to friends for weeks. Their octopus is another standout, prepared with surprising delicacy. Tender, not chewy, with a perfect char that adds just the right amount of smokiness. It's balanced, refined, and one of the most memorable small plates you'll find locally. And don't leave without dessert--the crème brûlée is phenomenal. Silky smooth custard under a flawlessly torched sugar crust that cracks just right. Simple, classic, and executed perfectly. Between the inventive dishes and the warm atmosphere, The First Post remains a must-visit for anyone who loves great food done exceptionally well.

TBH, IT'S ABOUT HOW YOU TREAT PEOPLE…read more.. If you work there you have to listen to Tom disrespect his wife Athena and the other employees and sometimes he'll go off swearing in Greek. He's not really a good person. He lost 2 really amazing chefs and THEY WERE CERTIFIED, not the I run the kitchen so I'm a chef type of guys. One was named Nick and I'm not sure what he ended up doing down the road, I think he went back to Snappers honestly, and the other guy was Tony and he went to some Italian Restaurant where things seemed to be much classier. They also had this badass bartender named Tom who had an outgoing personality, so much so that he could light up a room. Things were a lot better when Gus was around. He was an elder Greek man that would come into the bar and order one shot and one beer and he'd sit there for a good bit of time just soaking in the ambience. He'd then come back to the kitchen and bring A REAL, LIVE SKINNED GOAT into the back of the building and chop it up. I've never seen something like that until him, and he was one of a kind when it came to culinary arts, not just having a knife in your hand. He was a master like no other. There is an ongoing pattern in these comments. We all see what we see. You'd be better off going up the street to Sals and get yourself a 10 or 11 dollar sub and it's like 1ft and a half long.
