Western omelette
Katy R.

We came here for breakfast and were not disappointed!! They have a nicely sized and appropriately priced breakfast menu and everything we ordered was delicious!! I had the western omlette which came with a choice of potatoes and toast. I ordered home fries and (at least in Maryland) home fries are typically diced and browned cubes of seasoned potatoes, and as you can see in the photo I did not get what I thought I was ordering (they're sliced and not crispy) but they were still decent. The staff was not all that friendly in my opinion and that could be improved. (We had no silverware and after waiting for at least 5 minutes with our food getting cold we asked a random server for some. She looked at my waffle and goes "oh come on just pick it up with your hands" it might have been a joke but she never laughed or anything and considering it was our first time here, I also had an omelette, and we had been waiting for a long time to get the silverware it was kind of off-putting. We were both like what the heck?) But overall I would definitely return when in the area as it was the exact kind of place we were looking for.

Overall, this was a really great seafood boil spot. Nothing like it anywhere near as far as I can…read moretell. I would absolutely come back here again. We ordered hush puppies, sweet potato fries, fried calamari, fried shrimp, chicken tenders, 1 dozen raw oysters, snow crab legs, clams, mussels. The sweet potato fries and hush puppies were solid, pretty much the best standard version of those you could hope for. Very well executed. The fried shrimp and calamari were cooked perfectly and not overcooked/rubbery, and is definitely a good sign that the kitchen knows what they're doing with seafood in a fryer! The raw oysters were massive and fresh. They only provided lemon and cocktail sauce, so it would be nice in the future if they could also provide horseradish and hot sauce... maybe a vinegar, soy sauce, or ponzu too. The snow crab and clams were really good. The mussels were slightly overcooked, but dipping it in the plentiful sauce from the bag more than overcame that shortcoming. We all got the 88 sauce with medium spice. The sauce is crazy good! We are pretty comfortable with spice and so the medium didn't challenge us, but did introduce a very enjoyable uncomfortable level of spice. Lastly, the potatoes and corn that cooked in the bag with the sauce and juices were really good as well. The service was prompt and friendly. When you are ready to order, they do not come to your table, you need to go up to the register and place your order. That's a good time to grab all of the utensils you'll want, including any extra condiments they have up there. Overall, in spite of the slightly overcooked muscles, I'll give this place five stars. Love to see this type of restaurant come to the area. My family and I will definitely be back in the future!

My wife and I were in Chambersburg, PA, for a funeral and were meeting some family for dinner, so…read morewe decided to try Bistro 71. We were originally supposed to be seated outside, but when we arrived, the hostess suggested we eat inside since rain was in the forecast. We were seated upstairs, which turned out to be very nice we actually had the entire room to ourselves. If you order the Beef Wellington, I have one recommendation: ask them NOT to cut it in half before serving it. They cut mine open, and as you can see in the picture, it looked absolutely amazing and juicy. Unfortunately, once it was cut, the juices ran out of the beef after a few bites, and the meat started getting a little dry. I think it would be much better to receive the Wellington whole and cut into it yourself, starting at the end so you keep those juices inside the meat. Our server was very nice and greeted us shortly after we were seated. We ordered drinks and an egg roll appetizer that was one of the specials. The egg roll was very good, and the salads that came with our meals were also excellent. The dressing was especially good. For dinner, my wife ordered the chicken special, which was chicken served over mushroom rice with a very good sauce. She really enjoyed it. I ordered the Beef Wellington and when our meals arrived they both looked fantastic. My wife's chicken smelled wonderful, and my Wellington looked amazing. It was also much larger than I expected. The Beef Wellington was honestly one of the top five I've ever had. The pastry was cooked perfectly, and the beef was a beautiful medium rare and very tender. The potatoes were good as well. I wasn't as impressed with the green beans, but that was really the only part of the meal I didn't care for. I do think the Wellington could have been even better with a demi-glace or another good sauce on the plate. The beef itself was excellent, but a good sauce would have taken the dish over the top. Our server was very pleasant, but she wasn't as attentive as we would have liked. I'm not sure if that was because we were placed upstairs, but we could have used refills on drinks quite a bit earlier than we received them. Since we were the only people upstairs, we had to wait for her to come back up to check on us. Still, she was very nice, and I don't want that to take away from what was otherwise a very good experience. Overall, we really enjoyed our dinner at Bistro 71. The food was very good, the upstairs dining area was comfortable and quiet, and the Beef Wellington was definitely the highlight for me. I'd order it again--just next time, I'm keeping that Wellington whole until I cut into it myself!
