Big open space, cold craft beers, free pool, Skee-Ball, basketball games, and enough TVs to make sure you didn't miss a single goal. The wood-fired brisket pizza? It was... okay. Solid effort, but it wasn't lifting any trophies today. The wood-fired wings with buffalo sauce on the side were a better play. The calamari was decent, but the heavy wood-fired flavor tackled it a little too hard. Now the real MVP? The Syrian gyro. Absolute world-class performance. My worst restaurant experience :( It's such a big restaurant and it was super busy on weekend. We decided to stopped by to get a lunch and we ordered BBQ since we would love to try it out. We ordered the Medley meat BBQ and am not gonna lie, they were terrible, except the hot link that came with the BBQ set. The brisket were really dry and hard, the ribs were over seasoning and not much meat but fat, pulled pork or maybe chicken ( I'm not sure ) was really bad. Stopped in here a couple weeks ago when we were in Gettysburg for the weekend. This was the second time we ate here and I have to give this a mixed review. The first time we came here, last fall, we ordered pizzas for the table (there were four of us) and we all loved the food. Pizzas were bar pies and were pretty good (coming from a pizza snob). The drinks were a little pricey, but the service was great and we love the atmosphere. This most recent trip was not as good. We both wanted to try the bbq this time and were seated on the 'other' side. We were very confused as there was no BBQ on the menu, only to realize when the waitress came over that we didn't get the BBQ menus. We placed an order for drinks and looked over the menu, eventually we both chose a one meat combo - wifey ordered the brisket, Mac and cheese and cornbread and I had the ribs with baked beans and cole slaw. We also ordered an appetizer of hushpuppies. The sides were all fantastic...the Mac n cheese needed a touch of salt, but otherwise they were great. The hushpuppies were missing something-not sure if they put the sweet and spicy chipotle drizzle on them. Neither of us loved the meats. The brisket was tasty, but very fatty (yes, I know brisket has a fat layer, but this was very fatty). My ribs were a bit tough...again, they tasted fine, but they needed a little more time on the smoker (I'm not a fall off the bone guy, but the bite on these were a bit too much). Additionally, it too WAY too long for us to get our drinks...arrived about three minutes before our food was served. I'm sure this was a one-off, bad day, because I've heard great things about the bbq here. We're gonna stop in again next time, hopefully to bump up the rating. read more

Ambiance, great. Basically no walls or windows facing the street. We were placed right next to the sidewalk inside. The cool air that circulated from above us was nice in the humidity but cool enough to make our pizzas cold quickly. We waited so long for service that a rouge waitress noticed and came over to take our order. Thankfully because we sat there with no recognition at all for about 25 minutes. Stopped by The Upper Crust in Gettysburg recently for lunch and had a great experience overall. The open-air seating was a really nice touch--perfect for a relaxed afternoon. We both ordered pizzas, and while the center of the crust was a little on the softer side, the overall flavor was excellent. You can tell they put a lot of care into the ingredients and combinations. 1 Star -- Easily the Worst Dining Experience I've Ever Had Unfortunately, this was one of the worst experiences my wife and I have ever had at a restaurant, and the problems started almost immediately. When we arrived, we were told it would be about 10 minutes before a server could take our order. No big deal. We decided to order drinks from the bar while we waited. There were only four people sitting at the bar, yet it took approximately 20 minutes for the bartender to acknowledge us. We actually had to get the bartender's attention rather than being approached. After finally getting our drinks, we had to ask the person checking guests in whether we were supposed to order our pizza at the counter or if a server would be coming to our table. She told us she had forgotten to put our table in, but assured us a waitress would be with us shortly. At this point, we had already been there about 50 minutes. Throughout this entire ordeal, there was a middle-aged man walking around bussing tables. He passed our table several times, clearly seeing that we were sitting there waiting. He never made any effort to find out what was going on or help resolve the situation. As it turns out, he was the manager. Finally, after approximately an hour, a server came to our table. To her credit, she was pleasant and took our order. At some point, we were given a complimentary pizza. Unfortunately, it appeared to be a pizza that had been prepared for another table and was simply brought to us after someone else apparently didn't want it. It was cold, but by that point we were starving, so we ate some of it anyway. Our actual food took another 20 minutes to arrive, which, at that point, wasn't particularly surprising. We also ordered a few beers that never arrived. We eventually noticed them sitting at the bar and had to ask the bartender if they were ours. They were. So, we ended up having to retrieve our own drinks. My wife and I ordered a pizza with pepperoni, sausage, and mushrooms. When the pizza arrived, it had bacon instead of sausage. I explained to the young man who delivered it that we had not ordered bacon and that the pizza was supposed to have sausage. His response was that they were out of sausage, so they substituted bacon without asking us. That was the point where I asked to speak with the manager. And, ironically, the same middle-aged man I had watched walk past our table repeatedly was the manager. His first response was essentially, "I took this place over four months ago and had to fire a bunch of people, so what do you guys want for free?" I tried to explain that I wasn't looking for something free--I wanted him to understand how unacceptable the entire experience had been. Instead of listening, he repeatedly asked what he could give us for free. I even asked about the games advertised on the restaurant's website and why they weren't working. He told me he had unplugged them because, according to him, "all the soccer families stole stuff." I found that comment particularly disappointing, especially given the implication that customers should somehow be viewed with suspicion. I told him again that I didn't want anything for free; I simply wanted him to listen to our concerns. He said he would figure something out and walked away. When we eventually received our check, he walked by and proudly announced, "I took the most expensive pizza off the bill!" Ironically, that was the pizza with the most expensive topping--bacon--which we never ordered in the first place. To be fair, our waitress was pleasant, and I still left her a 20% tip. I normally tip more, but the problems we experienced were not her fault. The real failure was the management and the overall operation of the restaurant. This experience was embarrassing from start to finish. Poor communication, extremely slow service, incorrect food, missing drinks, questionable substitutions without asking, broken amenities, and, most importantly, management that seemed more interested in offering something "free" than actually listening to a customer's legitimate concerns. I would strongly recommend avoiding this restaurant, at least until there is a significant change in management and operations. One of the worst restaurant experiences I have ever had. read more

Visited family in PA and we went to the upper crust. It was my second time in years and well it has definitely changed. We were a party of 5 and we seated ourselves. It took a while for a server to come tend to us. Even though our server was friendly, she wasn't as attentive and the place wasn't busy. The restaurant is spacious so it's good for a big group, they also have a couple tables of pool which is fun but it does get very warm during summer. Their arcade area is FREE so that's a plus. The food was okay. The fish and chips were flavorless, the Korean bbq wings tasted good but were soggy, the chicken burger and the brisket sandwich were great. Come for the free arcade games, and while you're here, grab some food and drinks! This place is massive--easily able to seat groups of 100+--so our family of 21 fit with no problem. The highlight for us was that the kids could enjoy the free arcade games and burn off some energy after a full day of historic tours. They had basketball shooting games (though many balls were a bit deflated), two large shuffleboards, a pool table, four working skee-ball lanes (and one out of order), plus a semi-working air hockey table that just needed a puck. Our server was friendly, but service was very slow. It took 15 minutes just to get our drink orders, and we waited 45 minutes before the first item of our food arrived. We know large groups take more time, but simple steps--like giving everyone water right away--would make a big difference. As for the food, opinions were mixed. Some in our group enjoyed the pizza. I found the "Light & Bright" salad to be exactly as described, and I loved the pine nuts and blueberries. The meat pizza was only slightly better than a $2 Sam's Club slice, while the pepperoni pizza was much better, with tasty dollops of ricotta. Let's start with the good. I love the vibe of this place. The open kitchen with the three big beautiful brick ovens and piles of wood everywhere are unique to the area. Great place to get together with friends and enjoy some pizza, beer and games. The downside: the pizza is inconsistent. We ordered two Margherita pizzas that came out completely different. One was very crispy and charred with not much cheese. The other was floppy with more cheese on it. The flavor of both was just ok. One was a little heavy on the char, the other was heavy on the salt. My daughter and I like to find non pizza chain restaurants and this #68. We ordered drinks, the pepperoni, mozzerella cheese sticks and these mac n cheese stuff balls. The appetizers were good. The pizza (the pepperoni) was just average. The sauce was not spicy barely any taste and the cheese seemed off. My wife and I first visited The Upper Crust shortly after it opened, and I will admit our experience at that time was less than positive. Recently, after spending the day at the Gettysburg Wine Festival, we decided to give it another try, and I am very glad we did. The Upper Crust has now become one of our top dining spots in Gettysburg, and we are already looking forward to our next visit. That said, I am giving the restaurant four stars instead of five because I find it to be on the pricey side. While the food is fresh, flavorful, and beautifully presented, I do think the prices could be a little lower to allow room in one's budget for an adult beverage or dessert without pushing the tab too high. We started with the Light & Bright Salad--a delicious mix of Bibb lettuce, greens, toasted pine nuts, fresh berries, pickled fennel, and a red wine Dijon vinaigrette. It was fresh, vibrant, and flavorful, but at $12 each, $24 for two salads felt steep. For our main dish, we ordered the Margherita Pizza, topped with tomato sauce, fresh mozzarella, and basil. It was well-balanced and satisfying, though again, $17 felt a little high for the portion. By the time taxes and tip were added, our total was just over $50 for the meal, which feels expensive in today's economy. Even with the pricing in mind, the quality and taste of the food speak for themselves, and The Upper Crust has won us over on this return visit. As a family we loved this restaurant. It is opened to outdoors but the temperature was still cool because of the big fans. We went in hungry and ordered a few appetizers, pizza, beef brisket and a burger. The brisket was on the fatty side but was juicy. The wings were nice and crispy. The pizza was great. My son and I were playing shuffleboard incorrectly while awaiting our food and the manager Jacob came and introduced himself and actually showed us how to play. My son loved the restaurant and wanted to eat there the next day as well and told me I better mention Jacob in my review. Jacob also hand delivered our pizza to us, we were very impressed by him. We were very disappointed with our most recent visit. Our intention was to order food from the ribs place that adjoins the restaurant. That's usually possible but wasn't on the particular night we went. Apparently the ribs staff was working with a group of trivia players. I ordered wings & only ate a few of them. The good thing about this restaurant is the variety of pizzas and the handmade crust. It really hit the spot! Unfortunately, it's not worth the hassle of the experience of the restaurant. For instance, they serve ice cream. Okay, they say they serve ice cream. It's on the menu! But in reality, you actually have to leave the restaurant and walk down the street to another restaurant and get it yourself. Not a joke! Our service was also quite poor. My dad, one of the most patient people you'll ever meet, eventually got fed up because our waitress disappeared when we were ready to go. We ate dinner at this restaurant last night and you should stay clear. We ordered barbecue chicken, ribs, and sides. The green beans were burned, the coleslaw really had very little flavor, and the baked beans were straight out of a can. The barbecue was OK. There are better places around & you should try them. Stopped here for lunch while staying in town. Located across from our hotel, so it was a no-brainer to come here for lunch. First, one thing to mention right off the rip is there is plenty of room here. I would say it's probably the largest seating restaurant in Gettysburg. I want to say there were 60 tables? as well as a bar area, and a small arcade in the very rear. There are 3-4 ovens with cooks wheelin' and dealin' pies to push back the crowds. We were sat immediately and ordered drinks. Obviously, being a pizza place we split 3 pies as they were 12" in size. We got: Margherita: Not the best I have ever had, but the lack of enough basil leaves was troubling to me. Spinach: White pizza pie with spinach on top and balsamic glaze. Would have liked this to be leaves added at the time of serving - instead the spinach was wilted and just seemed off. Pepperoni: Was good overall - but something again was very pedestrian. The wings tasted like nothing, I asked for more of the sauce thinking that might help but it was worse. I was given a cold cup of something that looked like apple butter. I decided to keep it simple for the entree. They have 3 woodfire ovens and it is a pizza place but the pizza was a no-go as well. After the dirty water glass & bug in my drink. Loved this restaurant. First thing it is HUGE literally about 20,000 sq ft. The set up is really nice. The front wall of the restaurant opens up like a garage door I would say about 3 garage doors in length. They have booths and tables up front. In the middle are the wood burning ovens they cook the pizza in. We order the white spinach pizza with spinach, pecorino, mozzarella, goat cheese, balsamic reduction and evoo ( extra virgin olive oil ). So Delicious!! My husband had a York mixed drink and I had a glass of the Pinot Noir - Parducci, Mendocino County, California. Really nice red - to me a mix between a soft and sharp wine. HORRIBLE! Tried to get seated with my PTSD service dog, they turned us away. Red headed female, maybe manager, was extremely rude when she ordered me to leave. When we first got in there, I asked the hostess to seat us as far away from people as possible, so as not to offend anyone. I've got full credentials for my dog, certifying him as my service dog.
