My A - Z restaurant quest continues at this Speedway cafe, bakery & market. Decided to support local this Valentine's Day & enjoyed the Saturday night British Invasion menu. The fish and chips really hit the spot and it was even rainy outside, mimicking typical England weather. The fries needed salt and there was none provided on the table so just a pinch when frying them would have helped. The star of the show was that Sticky Toffee Pudding. Warm, gooey, and sweet with just a hint of spice from the gingerbread cake and bayleaf caramel sauce. The pomegranate seeds added a fun touch and the whole thing was topped with ice cream. So good! I thought the service was good - the seating is pretty cozy with your neighbor, so be prepared for that if it's busy. The cafe are was really cute & I'd like to go back for brunch sometime. read more

I went to my granddaughters baby shower here, and wowie, it was fabulous. The decor is quaint, vintage and funky! We had the party room and it was perfect for brunch. Unbelievable service, surprising how fast the drinks and food came out. I think there were about 26 of us, and they handled it with charm. The pastry bar was an absolute feast. We had a great brunch here a few weeks ago. Our server was so friendly and fun to talk to. The food was delicious and came out quickly. This might sound crazy, but one thing that really set Borage apart from other restaurants was their water! I'm not from Indy originally and hate drinking tap water here, but theirs is definitely filtered. After brunch we went over to the market area. Lots of yummy looking pantry items and other treats. Pretty hip breakfast and brunch spot. They have two areas one for dining and another more like a cafe order and pick up. We got some specials they had for the week (can't remember what they were) but they were so good. If they had a sampler for all their dishes I would bet that. Also do have beers and specialty cocktails. 100% recommend their espresso martinis for breakfast. Service was good, nothing outstanding but we did get treated kindly. read more

Another amazing brunch experience at Borage. We brought new friends today and they LOVED everything as much as we do! The veggie frittata was delicious, and the dressing on the side salad is THE best, and usually available in the market. The whole vibe is welcoming, inviting and adorable. (Except to I. C. Tried the elite croissant, blueberry lemon matcha, & cinnamon roll. Everything was great and fresh! they have some interesting menu items so excited to try everything They have a restaurant side and a store front side, restaurant side being closest to the road. Farm, meet table! Brunch dishes here are as fresh as can be and make use of many locally sourced ingredients. Everything I've consumed at borage is thoughtfully curated and utterly delicious. The maple fennel sausage included with the breakfast plate is divine - along with the hashbrown. Be aware that their hashbrowns are not just shredded potatoes, but made rosti style in a patty with a perfectly crispy exterior and fluffy interior. The fried to order donuts are also a must try. Take some baked goods home with you as well - the coffee-soaked tart cherry toffee chocolate chip cookie is one of my favorites! read more

Cozy spot for brunch with cute decor and ample seating inside and outside! Downside is the wait. Staff is friendly but not as attentive with water and coffee refills. Food was pretty good with a lot of unique items on the menu (but a bit salty for my liking). Still recommend checking out and I think it should only get better with time. Love this new spot in Speedway! A cute little diner and market with a coffee shop and bakery counter is just what the west side needed. We've been several times now and never disappointed with the baked goods and coffee selection. Their traditional breakfast plate is great for those (like me) who prefer a basic breakfast spread. The tofu egg substitute is a very interesting take if you're vegan or trying to watch your cholesterol (but you probably shouldn't order the traditional plate since most other things are fried). The breakfast sandwich is good, but on the greasy side. One of the highlights is peaking in their bakery case to take home a sweet treat or splurging on a pint (or two) of Circles Ice Cream. My favorite is their cornbread + honey! Tip: reserve a table ahead of time or be willing to wait a while during brunch time. read more

Have eaten at this place about 5 or 6 times. Food is delicious and creative, with great variety--from delicious straight ahead burgers to 'chicken liver mousse dirty not rice.' The chef is especially good at working sour, acidic notes into dishes like the dirty rice. Breakfast is also very good. I've also had the chicken sandwich, the frittata, and the turkey sandwich: all very good. The vibe is relaxed and friendly. The service can be a little slow but that's kind of part of the vibe. Good cocktails. Bright, colorful decor. Lively but not deafening. My favorite new-ish restaurant in Indy. read more

Their sausage gravey bowl is 10/10 still amazing. My previous reviews were about that being good... Unfortunately It stops there though. Been there 4 times, the bakery is something people rave about but to me and my family it's very average and low standards, just big portions for big money and they mask the lack luster bake with sugar toppings. But if people like it then congrats it's not for us. The other foods have been just okay. Their gooey sandwich wasn't melted or gooey. The cheese was cold and so was the meat inside soooo what supposed to be gooey? Service here has never been pleasing. It's always just OK or lacking every single time. Like they hate being there. IDK it's just one of the worst in Indiana we have consistently had experience with. Only thing I will be doing from now on is that chili biscuit bowl to go. That is worth talking about. I've been here 3 times and only for dinner which is served Thursday-Saturday. The decor is eclectic and welcoming I love that there is an option to sit at the bar but instead of looking at bottles and drinks being made you get to see the chefs plate up mouth watering dishes. I have enjoyed all of the things I ordered but a few of the stand outs are the mushroom appetizer and the Friday night specials the burger and the fish sandwich. The burger is absolutely delicious and is what the Big Mac wishes it was and the haddock Sammy is light and crispy and will make you forget about any fried chicken sandwich. First time to this establishment and was very excited based on the reviews. However, it was all wrong from the start. Understaffed front of the house, loud rap music, and employees dressed like they were going to clean out the attic and not serve me a meal. I love open kitchen concepts, but only when they are cleaned and organized. The oven here has not seen a scrub down since they opened. Add in long waits, pricy food ($23) for a simple breakfast and drip coffee and it all adds up to a HARD PASS. Save you money and head elsewhere. read more

Borage is an expansive space with a market/cafe attached to a sit down dining space. There is not a ton of cafe seating but I saw a few folks hanging out there when I visited on a weekday. The pastries are wonderful and have some unique offerings. I tried a traditional cinnamon roll (yum!) but also a cherry cheesecake croissant and coffee flavored chocolate chip cookie. All top notch! I also ate brunch on the diner side. I was excited to try the crispy potato cake side but it was pretty bland. The best part was a homemade jam that was minty and fresh. Overall, the breakfast plate was pretty standard diner fare; I'll order something more adventurous next time. There is plenty of parking and the restaurant was not too loud or crowded at lunchtime so it worked well for a quick in and out business lunch. I'd like to come back and linger for a girls brunch. read more

We have been to this restaurant several times. This morning we went and was disappointed we waited 45 minutes to never receive our food. We asked to just pay for our coffee order . We didn't make a scene, but know one apologized. Very disappointed considering that we have family who also owns a local restaurant business. The gallery walls were adorable. The fun paint colors and cute tile was lovely. The lights were also super bright so we felt like we were under a spotlight when seated. The waitress was very kind! It did feel a bit rushed and she probably didn't mean anything by it, but it doesn't feel right for a waitress to ask us what we'd like for dessert before we even finished eating our entrees. The market side had live music which we originally thought would be on the restaurant side so that was a bit disappointing. Overall, it was a lot more casual than expected and I wish we had gone for breakfast before trying it for dinner. Drinks: The daiquiri was delicious. It was creamy, fruity, nutmegy. Everything I wanted and the glass was adorable. The not so fancy was quite odd. It sounded unique and fun on the menu but the flavors just didn't go one bit. I'd steer away from it. Food: The haddock was crispy until the very last bite. It was honestly the best fish sandwiches I've had in Indiana. The bun was perfectly buttered, toasted, and smeared with sauce. The pickles were delicious. The slaw wasn't too mayo-y. There was SO much fish on it. $18 was super reasonable. For the burger, the sauce was smothered on, so the bun got a bit mushy toward the end but that's to be expected. The flavors were great. I liked that there was lettuce on the burger because I feel like smash burgers often don't have any lettuce or tomato. Another fabulous experience at Borage this week. This round, I opted to sit on the market/coffee shop side and enjoy a latte while working. It's hard to beat the views of a bustling coffee counter and bread being baked behind the kitchen windows. The energy was perfect for cranking through work. My seasonal latte, the Heat Miser, was a delightful mix of cinnamon and chocolate. I picked up turkey sandwich and the INCREDIBLE espresso soaked cherry toffee cookie before hitting the road. Note that they also have some fabulous premade meals like chicken and dumplings and so on. The service was friendly to top it all off. Can't wait for my next visit. read more

I i've been waiting to try this place for months since they opened. Several said it reminded them of Wildwood market, which was a favorite of mine. I finally made time to pop in on a Thursday morning between meetings and upon pulling into the parking lot knew it was a place I was going to love. The murals on the side of the building are beautiful, as was the interior. Parking was plentiful! Sat at a sweet little table in the market area, and there were about 10 other diners there at the same time -- journaling or working, some were having meetings. But it was very quiet and just an overall lovely space. I picked up a goodbye Earl latte and requested that it be just a little less sweet than how they typically make it. And they nailed it! Also, the presentation was gorgeous. I treated myself to an early lunch of a breakfast burrito. It was delicious. And before I left, I grabbed a few essentials for the next couple of days. A bag of fresh spinach, atake & bake pizza, house made hummus. I can't wait to return and will bring others with me when I do! My next visit, he'll probably also pick up a couple of gifts because they have the sweetest selection of household items from towels and sponges to dishes to journals. Really lovely items! read more

This is not your typical Midwest breakfast joint. The food is freshly made to order with a twist on a lot of the classics. Be prepared to challenge your taste buds in a good way. Arrive with an open mind and you won't be disappointed. The pastries and breads are made in house and are absolutely worth every calorie. The cinnamon roll was the best any of us has had and it was served cold. If you order, you may want to ask for it to be warmed. I had a lovey chai latte and it was delicious but next time I'll order extra hot as it was warm but chilled off quick. We ordered the donuts for the table and they were delightful. I had the gooey gobbler and it was tasty and very large - no additional sides needed. Staff were friendly and warm. Very welcoming atmosphere. I'd choose to eat outside next time as the music inside was too loud and clubby for my taste for brunch. The art work inside is amazing and a treat by itself. Delicious food in a cozy atmosphere. Be prepared to wait for a table during brunch hours on a weekend, but it's worth it! We started with a cinnamon roll with lemon cream cheese frosting for the table, which is a necessity. My daughter got the loaded biscuit bowl and loved it. The portion was large enough to take (messy) leftovers home. I had the breakfast sandwich and chose to add rosti, which I thought would be on the sandwich but came on the side. No biggie, it was still good as I shoved it between the sandwich layers. Coffee drinks were yummy and service was top notch. If you want to experience where we should be at in our foodie endeavors, please experience this place! Yesterday I had the pleasure of taking my son and daughter to brunch there. I thought it would be the perfect place to celebrate my oldest getting a new job. It did not disappoint! Every aspect of the outside and inside of Borage is eclectic and inviting. Bright floral murals, comfortable seating in the cafe inside and out, and a view of wild flower gardens that I hope will continue to mature and grow with this wonderful business. I don't write a lot of reviews, but this place is worth sitting down to. We ordered one of their specials, the French Toast Bread pudding, a breakfast biscuit bowl, and my younger child ordered their cinnamon roll with lemon cream cheese icing. Their signature espresso and matcha drinks were on point with beautifully curated flavors. As our food arrived we were told that they were out of cinnamon rolls but presented not one but two complimentary replacements. Their pumpkin chocolate chip Basque cheesecake, and chocolate croissant big enough for two. My child was so looking forward to the cinnamon roll, but her face lit up at the sight of both items. It absolutely made her day. Our brunch was lovely, and Olivia was the perfect server. So calm and attentive. Even noticing that my daughter's chai was not being consumed and offered sweetener. I was blown away. It's the first time a server has ever noticed my sugar baby's need for a sweeter chai. I was so glad that it then was drank instead of wasted. Just a small touch, but so intuitive. Olivia, you're the best! It gave me a moment of "Unreasonable Hospitality" that I think Will Guidara would smile about. The marketplace with exposed kitchen and spacious coffee bar was a feast for the eyes and palate. A wonderful mix of local wares, culinary treats like house made stocks and pie shells, fresh fruit and veg in mismatched vintage bowls, and house plants in all sizes just to name some of my favorite bits. This area was so fun to explore, and had a sweet seating area with vintage lounger and repurposed bench seating options. Staff on both sides were kind and relaxed which I much appreciated. A welcome change from so much of the city. I will gladly continue to come out from the south side, winding along 16th street to Speedway to grab more of their beautiful pastries and cold case offerings. They are doing it right over there. I want to love this place, and for the most part I do enjoy it, with that being said the exhaust in the kitchen situation is not good. I know it's probably an issue they know about and I'm not trying to be mean because some things can't get fixed easily or promptly..My eyes were burning through out whole meal, and if you have to go anywhere else after bring a change of clothes. It's been well over a hour since we got home and we still smell. However I did notice that back by the bathrooms the smell and smoke was way better. Flowers and herbs growing, chalk painting done on the sidewalk by kids, benches and last but not least the beautiful painted flower murals on the walls outside. They have a cute walk up window to order from also! When you walk inside the to the left is the dining area with a bar. To the right is the bakery with a great view of them making the pastries. They were making lemon cream cinnamon rolls when I was there and goodness they looked amazing!!! As I was getting ready to order a fresh batch of them arrived at the case. You better believe I ordered one! It was warm and delicious!!! The vanilla late was perfection! So good! The market was so cute! Local honey, fresh flowers, comfy seating it all works. I like how they added color into the space. They used the little Welch's jelly jars for little flower vases. They were cute. All the little touches people do notice. Tonight we started with fried green tomatoes (sorry no pic), our 8 year old loved them as much as we did! The Burger of the Month was incredible with bacon jam, cheddar, spicy pickles on sesame.
