After living in New York for over 10 years, I can say I definitely miss the availability of a good croissant in Dayton. Boosalis is a refuge for amazing pastries and good in general. We decided to drive over half an hour to get to this bakery primarily for me to try Kouign Amann. It is an delectable pastry of many flaky layers interspersed with sugar caramelized to a delicate crunch. First described by a Yelp friend, he even told me where the closest bakery was to get this fantastic morsel- thanks Omar. I was not disappointed! We got more to bring home. Besides that we got financiers, florentines, croissants both plain and chocolate, plus a baguette. While there, we had a delicious lunch made with boar's head meats and homemade bread. They also serve breakfast which sounds marvelous! It was once named the best coffee shop in Ohio! It sounds impressive, but doesn't do it justice although the customers rave about their coffee, too. Oh my! Got to meet the owner, Matt Boosalis, who wakes up at 3 to begin the baking process and uses the same recipes from decades ago. We tried this place since another bakery we frequent was closed today. Definitely for the best. We walked in and Mr. Boosalis himself had us sample a few items and explained the high quality ingredients and passion that go into his products. Everything we tried and walked out with was fantastic. If you like almond paste, definitely try the coffee cake. Great croissants, scones. The piece de resistance has to be the Kouign-amann. My first time in was with my mother-in-law for lunch. I cannot speak highly enough about my chicken salad sandwich. Everything, including the bread was homemade. As someone who usually doesn't like bread... I found myself finishing every last bite! The best bread I've ever had; delicious! Their pastries are made fresh and are delectable. I feel truly blessed (or perhaps cursed if I look at it in terms of watching my weight) that I live within just a couple miles of Bill's donuts and this marvelous bakery, Boosalis. Do you think scones are dry and unappetizing? Let Boosalis change your mind. Do you remember those pecan twirl things that came six to a package? Boosalis sells sticky pecan rolls that will blow those out of the water, especially if you visit early enough to get them warm. Their pain au chocolat (croissants with chocolate filling) are delightful, their coffee cakes are lovely, and their bread is great stuff. Oh, do you like cream puffs? Do yourself a favor and buy some. Don't balk at the price. They're worth it. I've never had a cream puff even half as good, anywhere else. Wow! Talk about a pleasant surprise. I had recently learned of this place through an article on the web which led me here to Yelp to read about Boosalis Baking and Café. My wife, her friend from out of town, and I all went there this morning to try it out after reading the rave reviews. It was one of the best experiences I have ever had at a restaurant. Immediately upon coming in, we were warmly greeted by an extremely friendly staff. They were very helpful in explaining their pastries and menu and gave us multiple samples of their products. They were all incredible. All of them were the best I've had in their categories. The scones, Kouign Amman, croissants, and sandwiches were delicious. My family will definitely become regulars and I'm excited I have found a place nearby that is so wonderful. Seriously love this little bakery/cafe -- don't be duped by the fact that it's stuffed into a corner of a lackluster strip mall, because once you step inside, you're in for a real treat. From the incredibly friendly staff (including the owner who made his rounds with all who were in for the morning) to the array of traditional Greek pastries, the only thing I could think about was when we could plan a trip back. After living in New Zealand for four years, we struggled with finding fresh baked goods that we loved. After seeing reviews on a local Facebook group, we decided to try Boosalis Baking and Cafe. When we walked in, it immediately reminded us of an NZ cafe. So many scones, croissants, danish and other baked goods to try. We had a pecan roll and cherry white chocolate scone wile we were there and grabbed a ginger butter scone and another pecan roll to take home. Mr. Boosalis came over and took the time to speak with us and brought us a sample of his butter croissant and this amazing thing called a Kouign-Amann. I chose Boosalis because of all the great reviews here, and then remembered that my daughter, who had been to Paris and raves about the baked goods there, mentioned a place on Alex-Bell where she could get similarly yummy croissants and baguettes. My friend and I loved our sample of Kouign-amann, along with the chocolate croissant, sticky bun, round loaf, panini sandwich and turkey cranberry sandwich. Matt chatted with us for quite awhile and I loved hearing about his heart for the business and community. I cannot wait to bring my kids here for their own pastries. This place appeared as if a mirage out of the desert of bland surrounding it. I was on my way back from Dayton, to Cincinnati, looking for a cafe using my Garmin. None of the places in downtown Dayton were open so I resigned myself to settle for Starbucks. I picked the location closest to I-75, and as I was approaching it, I noticed Boosalis and decided to take a look. I am so glad that I did. This place is a rare treasure. The owner, Matt, is a true gentleman and was beyond hospitable. He proffered many a delightful taste that drew us like moths to a flame, with no entreaty from him necessary. He makes some of the best bread that I have had anywhere. His croissants: shut up. They have a wide selection of food for lunch including many sandwiches, soups, salads, box lunches and a kids menu. They have many vegetarian selections including sandwiches and soups. They have a wine bar, wine tastings, and classes to teach you how to make bread. They cater as well. You can even fax in your lunch order for pick up using a printable form from their website. Oh and don't forget free wi-fi. The vegetarian options include a vegan ham & cheese, tofu salad sandwich, caprese, and hearty vegetarian chili with textured vegetable protein (similar in consistency to ground beef). I had the caprese sandwich. Please allow 8 minutes for them to freshly prepare and hot press your sandwich. Take that time to wander around the shop. They have a fine selection of drinks, cheeses, breads, pastries, olive oils, and other sundries. And if that doesn't convince you, how about a $5 glass of wine with lunch! The caprese was delicious. The cheese was flavorful and perfectly gooey. The basil fresh and the tomatoes perfectly ripe. Did I mention the phenomenal bread? The dill pickle is better than most but not the best. (I am a bit of a pickle fanatic) I feel like I tried just about everything they had to offer and went home with plenty to keep me itching to return. The cranberry walnut bread tastes almost like a brioche and is delicious. The kalamata olive and wheat is a great option for something a little less sweet. They had some bread sticks that had a heart shape at the top which were, again, very good. For dessert, I had their fresh made pastry filled with chocolate ganache and fresh made whipped cream. It was, as you may have guessed, sinful. I recommend taking the time to look around, taste everything and talk to the owner about his concept. He uses only natural ingredients and artisan techniques that take more time and create a superior taste sensation. The value is great because the prices are competitive with the other highly advertised chain sandwich shops, which of course, offer an inferior product. read more

I was looking for some breakfast in Centerville and stumbled on this bakery, am I glad that I did! Everyone working was super nice and friendly. I ordered an egg and cheese croissant and it was quite possibly one of the best breakfast sandwiches I've ever eaten. The croissant was warm flaky and crispy. The eggs were made fresh and were so soft and creamy while melted with the cheese, it was amazing. I also tried a coconut macaroon cause they looked awesome. I visited in July (2008) and what a gem of a place. The owner obviously has a flair and a passion about the food being served - ask him about the breads. Very good coffee too, much better than trudging across to the local Starbucks (and a better value as well). A real European bakery in the middle of Ohio... Update - It has been interesting to watch the rest of the country, especially in the foodie hubs on both coasts, become enamored with the Kouign-amann, while all the while having it available here - they have been serving the pastry here for at least two years (since 2013) now. So while the rest of the 'culinary' country has been 'discovering' the Kouign-amann, Boosalis Baking has been perfecting it. This place is a real treasure. read more

The real deal. I've been searching for a legitimate bakery in the area and this is it. No contest. Japanese and Korean grocery stores have a bakery inside just like this, with real breads and real pastries that taste good and felt good after you finished them. It's the standard in their countries. I did order something for else, a black and white cookie. It was reasonably priced at just under $3. I think you should try this bakery and form your own opinion about your favorite baked goods. The woman at the counter and another gentleman (owner I think) routinely walked through the dining area to make sure everyone was pleased. Then the woman at the counter accidentally broke a cookie and brought me the pieces to try. Coffee: Very good and cheaper than the big chains! Can have one free refill as well. Food: Amazing!! Had the cheese blueberry danish and coffee for breakfast which was heavenly. Studied there and stayed for lunch - ham & swiss on a homemade croissant with fruit cup and ginger molasses cookie. They really excel at the baked goods. All their breads, croissants, cookies, and pastries are made fresh in-house daily. Price: Very reasonable for such high quality treats.
