Cute lil cafe & the aromas of fresh pastry were intoxicating. Service was friendly and prompt. They've been in business for a few years, so I was surprised when they handed me a paper cup with hot water and a tea bag. After I chose a seat, they brought out my breakfast croissant on a paper plate. I wish the cheese was melted, but the sandwich was really good. The croissant was impressive-it tasted like I was back in Paris. It just felt like I was in my hotel lobby having breakfast with all the paper products. I opted for an assortment of to go pastries to try--almond croissant, lemon blueberry scone, and coffee cake. They were all pretty delicious, except the scone. The coffee cake was the best. I got a surprise bag from this bakery that came with multiple different types of pastries in the bag. I only got the chance to eat a few of the goodies I had but what I did eat was pretty good . I received some sort of apple danish which was so soft and pretty good . Then there was this pastry called Kougin Amann, which kinda reminded me of baklava without the peanuts and the glaze. But it was soo good it was in the size of a Muffin. They gave us two. There were also other parties in there that I didn't get a chance to even get too but there was a cinnamon roll and some pastry with strawberries and crème in the middle. 10/10 will definitely have to come back and get some more pastries and goodies read more

Quaint little bakery off of Alex Bell road, sort of hidden on the eastward facing side of the front row of shops. Good assortment of items, all made in-house. In addition to the pastries, they have true breakfast entrees like egg sandwich and french toast. I was also pleasantly surprised to see they have sandwiches and paninis for the lunch crowd. We tried a mix of things including an egg, cheese and bacon breakfast sandwich on a croissant, a ham and cheese croissant, half cherry half cream cheese danish, and a morning roll which is similar to a cinnamon roll. They don't have iced coffee or specialty coffee drinks, but do have drip coffee. Otherwise, all bottled beverages including water. We ate inside, and there are plenty of tables. We noticed a lot of people getting things to-go. The pastries were pretty good, but based on the reviews I was hoping it would be some of the best I've ever had, and that just wasn't the case. There was quite a selection of delicious looking pastries to choose from so it was hard to narrow it down to two items! We ended up splitting a piece of coffee cake and a cherry & cheese danish which were both quite good. However, I was disappointed with the atmosphere of the bakery. For a high end bakery that calls itself "a sanctuary for those who appreciate the finest artisanal pastries and gourmet treats" I would expect more than plastic tablecloths and paper plates. The pastries were so flaky and delicious. My husband and I shared the Kougin Amann and it was incredible. It was so tender and sweet. We also split the chocolate croissant and it was very good but I wish it had more of the tasty chocolate inside. We split a cranberry walnut bread turkey sandwich and it was also very good. We also took home 4 different cookies and so far so good! Order at the counter and they will bring your sandwich to you. The bakery was very clean and not loud at all. If you've heard the "hype", believe it! This bakery is an unsuspecting gem. I have ordered several bacon egg and cheese croissants over the last year; the quality does not change. It is by far the BEST b.e.c croissant you can get in the Dayton area. The lamination on the croissants is unreal ( you hear that croissants should have layers, didn't understand until I ate here). I generally order 10 minutes ahead and the staff has it ready by the time I arrive. The kouign-amons are perfect glazed bites and the danishes are as yummy as they are beautiful--blueberry is my personal favorite. Admittedly, I prefer to make my own coffee in the mornings. On a day I was crunched for time, I was able to try their Ethiopian blend... go figure it was also amazing. read more

I don't recall how I originally learned about Boosalis; I think it was on some award list of best bakeries perhaps? Whatever the reason, I had it on my list of places to try when I was in Dayton early last year, but I wasn't able to make it there that visit. This time around, I couldn't miss out and went in on a weekday morning. Inside, I was greeted by a number of customers sitting around, eating pastries, and sipping on coffee. The pastry case in front was fully stocked with some very delicious looking croissants and other delights. We had a tough time deciding what to get - we wanted to try everything, but we didn't have the stomach space! After pondering for a while, we made our decision. Chocolate Croissant ($3.65) - Two small chocolate batons are baked into this pastry at the bottom, as is tradition. They are not too sweet and add a very nice cocoa richness that works well with the croissant. The rest of the croissant is buttery with well laminated layers that meld together but are also fluffy. The top few layers are crispy and well browned. They flake off easily in buttery flecks. I found this croissant to be pretty cheap for a chocolate croissant from an artisan bakery and overall found this to be a solid chocolate croissant in general. (4/5) Kouign Amann ($2.85) - This kouign amann is pretty small - around 2 inches across. There's melted caramelized sugar surrounding the edges and in a layer on the bottom. Additional sweetness from pearl sugar is added right in the center of the pastry. The pastry is very well laminated, with distinct layers that peel off easily. The dough seems to be salted a bit and has a somewhat bitter flavor to it. It doesn't seem like the dough itself is sweetened at all, so the middle portion is buttery, but not sweet. it's not nearly as buttery as the chocolate croissant though and there's larger air pockets compared to the croissant. There's a good crunch on the outside from both the browned dough and the sugar on the outside. (4/5) I can see why Boosalis Baking and Cafe is popular. Both pastries we tried were solid and I can easily recommend the place if you're looking for something nice for breakfast or just a treat for yourself. read more

Boosalis Bakery in Centerville is well worth the hike. A solid five-star experience, earned in every way. The staff is incredibly personable, happy to chat, and eager to share their knowledge. We walked in thinking it was a new spot, only to find out they've been around for years. No idea how we missed them before, but we won't make the same mistake again. I've been to France several times, and Boosalis comes the closest to capturing that experience Stateside. The croissants are ridiculous--you can hear them before the first bite, layers shattering, then the butter melts as they dissolve in your mouth. Absolute perfection. We didn't hold back, trying croissants, muffins, sweet and savory pastries, the whole nine. I asked the young lady behind the counter if I had overlooked something, something a first-timer might not think to order. She thought I meant she forgot something, but once I clarified, she lit up and said, "Oh, absolutely--try the Kouign-Amann." No clue what she just said, but I told her to put a couple in the box. Think of it as a European mini croissant, packed with flavor in a way making you wonder why it's not more common. A couple of Danish and a pumpkin muffin rounded things out, and not a single thing missed the mark. Every bite was fresh, flavorful, and clearly made with serious skill. If you want anything more on the sandwich, speak up because they don't offer. They don't offer ice with drinks and they don't have it if you ask for it. I asked for decaf and was given a cup to fill myself, which is OK - that's normal, but they don't offer decaf and didn't tell me that. So I got a half cup and stopped there. The bakery items look beautiful and there is a reasonable variety. So it's a good stop if you want regular coffee and a pastry and nothing more. The dining area is a little spartan but the folks were friendly, the service was good, and the sandwiches were tasty. Of course, you can't beat the fresh bread!
