Quaint little bakery off of Alex Bell road, sort of hidden on the eastward facing side of the front row of shops. Good assortment of items, all made in-house. In addition to the pastries, they have true breakfast entrees like egg sandwich and french toast. I was also pleasantly surprised to see they have sandwiches and paninis for the lunch crowd. We tried a mix of things including an egg, cheese and bacon breakfast sandwich on a croissant, a ham and cheese croissant, half cherry half cream cheese danish, and a morning roll which is similar to a cinnamon roll. They don't have iced coffee or specialty coffee drinks, but do have drip coffee. Otherwise, all bottled beverages including water. We ate inside, and there are plenty of tables. We noticed a lot of people getting things to-go. The pastries were pretty good, but based on the reviews I was hoping it would be some of the best I've ever had, and that just wasn't the case. I would like to come back for lunch and try one of the paninis. Overall, very good assortment so there is surely something for every palate.

I have heard great things about Boosalis Cafe for a long time and finally went there for coffee and pastries. There was quite a selection of delicious looking pastries to choose from so it was hard to narrow it down to two items! We ended up splitting a piece of coffee cake and a cherry & cheese danish which were both quite good. However, I was disappointed with the atmosphere of the bakery. For a high end bakery that calls itself "a sanctuary for those who appreciate the finest artisanal pastries and gourmet treats" I would expect more than plastic tablecloths and paper plates. The baked goods were very good so I probably will return, but only for carry out.

The pastries were so flaky and delicious. My husband and I shared the Kougin Amann and it was incredible. It was so tender and sweet. We also split the chocolate croissant and it was very good but I wish it had more of the tasty chocolate inside. We split a cranberry walnut bread turkey sandwich and it was also very good. We also took home 4 different cookies and so far so good! Order at the counter and they will bring your sandwich to you. The bakery was very clean and not loud at all. Perfect pastries for our afternoon lunch. I will definitely come back!

I don't recall how I originally learned about Boosalis; I think it was on some award list of best bakeries perhaps? Whatever the reason, I had it on my list of places to try when I was in Dayton early last year, but I wasn't able to make it there that visit. This time around, I couldn't miss out and went in on a weekday morning. Inside, I was greeted by a number of customers sitting around, eating pastries, and sipping on coffee. The pastry case in front was fully stocked with some very delicious looking croissants and other delights. We had a tough time deciding what to get - we wanted to try everything, but we didn't have the stomach space! After pondering for a while, we made our decision. Chocolate Croissant ($3.65) - Two small chocolate batons are baked into this pastry at the bottom, as is tradition. They are not too sweet and add a very nice cocoa richness that works well with the croissant. The rest of the croissant is buttery with well laminated layers that meld together but are also fluffy. The top few layers are crispy and well browned. They flake off easily in buttery flecks. I found this croissant to be pretty cheap for a chocolate croissant from an artisan bakery and overall found this to be a solid chocolate croissant in general. (4/5) Kouign Amann ($2.85) - This kouign amann is pretty small - around 2 inches across. There's melted caramelized sugar surrounding the edges and in a layer on the bottom. Additional sweetness from pearl sugar is added right in the center of the pastry. The pastry is very well laminated, with distinct layers that peel off easily. The dough seems to be salted a bit and has a somewhat bitter flavor to it. It doesn't seem like the dough itself is sweetened at all, so the middle portion is buttery, but not sweet. it's not nearly as buttery as the chocolate croissant though and there's larger air pockets compared to the croissant. There's a good crunch on the outside from both the browned dough and the sugar on the outside. (4/5) I can see why Boosalis Baking and Cafe is popular. Both pastries we tried were solid and I can easily recommend the place if you're looking for something nice for breakfast or just a treat for yourself.

Wow! We've driven by this pastry shop so many times but yesterday we stopped in. We told the server it was our first time in and she walked us through all their delicious options. She started with Kouign Amann - their specialty. And yes! Especially delicious!! We bought several pastries and a savory croissant (egg, ham and cheese). They have about 10 tables inside and some cute setups outside as well. We'll be back!

    The best croissant ever!

I've been coming here for about 3 months after finding this hidden gem of a bakery, and it's still amazing. They remodeled the entire store, and it looks so spacious and clean... The staff is amazing, with the best customer service I have had in years. So far I've had about 15 things off their menu, and literally nothing compares to the quality of food here! If you need a recommendation to try it, do it, and you won't be disappointed with anything you buy. By far "the" best bakery in Dayton, and most likely the state of Ohio.

My sisters and I went to Vals bakery for breakfast on a recent birthday trip. We heard great things…read moreabout the bakery, and I had it on my bucket list for quite a while. I was even more drawn in by the fact that they specialize in Matcha drinks. I think we ordered about 1/3 of the desserts in the display case. One of my sisters is gluten-free, so she got a gluten-free cinnamon roll from a bakery they they partner with to supply their gluten-free desserts. I forgot to take a photo of the name cards, so I don't remember exactly what everything was called. We tried the raspberry Matcha croissant, the cozy croissant, a honey croissant cookie (basically a cookie made of croissant dough), a cinnamon roll, focaccia, a strawberry mascarpone croissant, a Caprese danish type pastry, a garlic cream cheese danish type pastry, a banana bread iced chai latte, and a strawberry Matcha latte. The pastries were all 10/5 stars-- truly. The Caprese one was topped with the best pesto Ive ever had. The garlic cream cheese one could be eaten for breakfast every day. The loxxy croissant was stuffed with smoked salmon and cream cheese and was so tasty that my sister who doesn't eat seafood, liked it and said she could eat a whole one herself. Everything bagel seasoning created a crunch on top that was just perfect. The strawberry mascarpone was a personal favorite for me. It just was so perfectly executed and the flavors we're all on point. It had strawberry cheesecake vibes, but the filling was lighter since it was mascarpone. The raspberry Matcha croissant was actually one of my least favorite items, though I did still really like it. It seemed like it was filled with both blackberries and raspberries, but I didn't mind. It was just significantly sweeter than the other desserts and maybe a bit much for me. However, I finished it the next day and really enjoyed every last piece of sugar. I'm thinking maybe in contrast to the other items, I just wasn't liking this one as much, but when it was standing on its own, it was great! The cinnamon roll was everything a cinnamon roll should be! It was even better because they warmed it up for us. The honey croissant cookie was simple and satisfying. I would eat those anytime. Sometimes it's nice to just enjoy a more simple dessert. The focaccia was some of the best any of us had ever had. I tried my sister's chai and thought it was really good, albeit too sweet for me to have ordered myself . Sadly my Matcha was too sweet as well, so I'm not sure I would order another. I was disappointed about that part since it's something the bakery is known for. The outside and inside of the bakery are both really cute! Everything is decorated nicely. They sell a little bit of boutique style clothing and some branded goods near the front. The staff taking our order were honestly not the friendliest, but I will chock that up to us being annoying, taking too long to decide which 10 items we wanted. We let everyone who came in after us go before us, but I'm sure we were still annoying. The staff who took over later in our visit when we went back up to order even more drinks and pastries were very friendly! Overall, a fantastic visit. I am sad to not live closer, but actually that's probably a good thing for my wallet and pant size. If you are in Dayton and considering a visit to Val's bakery, do it. Truly, no way you will regret it!

The food and drinks definitely lived up to the hype: * Coffee: Solid - I had a regular latte (breve) with an extra shot. * Caprese Croissant: Absolutely delicious. You can tell they use high-quality, fresh ingredients. * Matcha Croissant: The matcha itself was overly sweet which is part of the outer coat of the croissant. The inside was filled with cream and jam that balanced perfectly--you could actually taste the fruit and cream without it being overly sweet. A quick note on sweetness: I don't typically eat a lot of sweets. If you have a major sweet tooth, you'll definitely enjoy these.

So we just walked in, and the host was kind enough to let us sit at the little bar area near the window. I like their ordering system. You have many options --- go up to the cash register and order there, order from the server who comes by your table (or in our case, bar), or use your phone by scanning the QR code. And if you use your phone, each person in your party can do it themselves on their own phone. Regardless, it all gets added to the same order for the same table. Pretty slick. At the end, when it comes time to pay, the app lets you split the check however you want, and you can even see the name of the person that ordered each item. The food was incredible. It's not cheap, and the portions are a little smaller than some might expect at an Italian restaurant. But for us, it was filling enough. I personally had the raviolo, which was delicious. Little did I know that in Italian, "raviolo" is singular while "ravioli" is plural. So I got one giant raviolo on my plate (see picture). I didn't care much for the runny egg yolk on top, but it was as advertised on the menu. All the other food orders were amazing, especially the desserts. I'd definitely come back once my food budget resets.
