I got the lox and cream cheese bagel sandwich and while it was very good the price is insane for the area. I am from Miami and the lox and cream cheese sandwich at my local high-end scratch bagel shop is cheaper than this place. I would really reevaluate what you are charging because I can't fathom why a place in Dayton, Ohio would be more expensive than a place in Miami, Florida. It would really be a 5 star place but I had to deduct a star because of the pricing. Edit: Clearly the owners of this place have an attitude problem as seen in the feedback of this review and other review feedback left on this page. I am looking out for the customer base in the area with my comment, no need to have an attitude about it. read more

Who knew boiled bagels could taste like this? If you haven't tried these you need to run...not walk to your nearest Barry! Or maybe not, cause everytime I want these I am standing in line. Food is very good. Though bagels and lox are always a treat, we tried new dishes. They sell meats, including lox in 1/4 pound containers. Takeout. Pastrami, roast beef, corned beef. I heated the Pastrami in the steamer setting of my microwave. Put it between rye bread. Great. The roast beef was cooked perfectly with red showing. Had it cold. Another excellent choice. Great for what it is- essentially the subway of bagels. Choose you bagel, choose from some limited toppings. Tons of different bagel flavors and seasonal options. Breakfast topping Ana d cream cheese to go with it. The different steaming options are nice as well. Service was quick- lots of people ahead of us but we were in and out in about 10 minutes. These were the only NYC-style bagels that I could find in Dayton. It's busy and has limited seating so we got ours to go. All the classic water boiled bagel flavors and smears. Decent coffee and other deli type items. The bagels are on point and service is fast. We will be back. Often!! read more

Let me start by saying I know Barry's has excellent bagels. A few days ago I ordered a BLT bagel for the first time. Sadly it had essentially no lettuce or tomato but instead an inch thick layer of bacon. In my experience I prefer a balance of all three ingredients. I went to Barry Bagels and was very happy with what I got! I got a Eggel with meat and cheese and it was so good. I will definitely be getting it again! I also tried the Vanilla Cinnamon bagel with the maple brown sugar cream cheese and it was also very tasty! Definitely more on the sweet side than the Eggel but a great combination. I've driven by this place a few times and finally got a chance to stop in. It was late afternoon, so it was nice and quiet. I ordered the cream cheese with lox and plain cream cheese on an onion bagel. They even had capers to go with it. I was pleasantly surprised. My fiance got the chicken salad sandwich on onion. He wanted it on a plain bagel, but was told it would be about 10 minutes. I found it interesting that they were out of plain and remembered seeing another review about the same issue. My first review was a well deserved one star. I swore I'd never go back but we were craving a bagel sandwich and this place is on DoorDash. The two stars are for the price, a meat and cheese eggel for less than $6 is a good deal - if the sandwich is any good. That's where the situation gets unfortunate. I ordered a turkey and provolone on an onion bagel. The bagel itself had no flavor, definitely not what I expected from an onion bagel. The turkey was minimal....they did get the cheese melted though so kudos. I had to add my own salt/pepper/mayo to make it taste like food. I'm super disappointed yet again, I should stop expecting this place to be bagel cafe because it's clearly sub par to our old bagel shop. Went there because it was convenient. Wished I'd inconvenienced myself and gone somewhere else. Second time I've tried the place. No better than the first over a year ago. Server had an edge, poor listening skills, and seemed annoyed when I asked some basic questions. I guess paying customers, the people who make it possible for his employer to pay him, are a real irritation to him. I ordered an egg salad bagel sandwich. Thank goodness he asked me what portion of TUNA salad I wanted so I could correct him, otherwise I would have gotten the wrong thing. (Yeah, I guess egg and tuna do sound a lot alike.) Just the sandwich was almost $7. Talk about overcharging! Then, they have the nerve to put out a tip jar??? I think the tip is already in the price. The egg salad was beyond bland. Had zero seasoning whatsoever. Not even paprika, a basic in egg salad. It was watery, too. Never going there again would be too soon. Would have given it one star, but in all fairness, the bagel itself was good and merited an extra star. Even at that, not worth the time or the price. Very poor value. read more

I just reviewed Barrys a week ago, but this review is for our holiday family get together for brunch on Dec 24th. We ordered 2 dozen bagels and 3 containers (1/2 pound each) of different flavored cream cheeses. We also picked up 1/2 pound of smoked salmon. Oddly, this item is not on their menu but they do have it. Because it's not on their menu, I picked up 2 packs of smoked salmon at Whole Foods, thinking Barrys didn't sell the salmon by the pound. Please, Barrys, put it on your menu. We really enjoyed the smoked salmon as it was perfectly salted, and the slices easily separated. The packages found in grocery stores often come apart in chunks, rather than thin slices. The bagels were perfectly sliced. Due to weather conditions, the entry floor was very slippery, and I almost went down. Given my age it could have been a life changing accident. I recommend Barrys plan for these conditions. Sawdust on the entryway? My only complaint about Barrys is that getting through to Barrys is a runaround process requiring you to go through a central number, which is never answered, or using the "contact us," link, which also goes to a central number. Printing out the menu on the website gives you the basic information. I really wanted to order a prepared lox platter but I could only find it on the Door Dash menu. I prefer to deal directly with the store. If I wasn't already a Barrys customer, I would have gone elsewhere. I love bagels, for breakfast, lunch, dinner, or a snack. Great by themselves, as a sandwich, or generally part of a larger meal. But to be honest, since moving to Ohio a while back, I have not done a lot of looking for places like this that specialize in fresh bagels. Glad that I found this place (and glad that they were still open during COVID-19 outbreak). I was able to get all the varieties that I like and fresh schmeer. Barry Bagels, I'm a fan! While I wouldn't call myself a big sandwich person in general, Barry Bagels offers some pretty delicious bagel sandwiches and sides for a great weekday lunch. Of course you can just order plain bagels for breakfast, snacks, whatever works for you, but I have to give props to my favorite menu item: the honey roasted turkey sandwich. You can get any sandwich served on your choice of bagel (I usually have the honey roasted turkey on garlic, poppy, or honey wheat bagels) and fresh toppings. In striking up a conversation with an employee there I was told they get their produce locally from Dorothy Lane Market when in season. And you could tell as the leafy green lettuce and bright red tomatoes put the veggies at other sandwich shops to shame. You can definitely taste the higher quality in these sandwiches. I'm overall pleased with our experience at Barry's Bagels. The bagels were fresh and authentic (although there wasn't much blueberry to the blueberry bagel), the eggel breakfast sandwiches we got were better than fast food and the coffee was even good (creme brulee was our favorite). We went in on a busy Sunday morning with the line winding around the store so it was a bit of a wait. But where else are you going to get fresh bagels in Kettering other than Panera? My only observation (not really complaint) is that there is something to be said for illusion when it comes to food service and Barry's hasn't really mastered that. I appreciate that they want their food service line and fresh toppings visible but watching them make your egg sandwich in a microwave doesn't make it all that appealing, even if it tastes just fine and isn't sitting under a heat lamp for a half hour. I honestly think they'd do better with the old Bagel Cafe model where you place your entire order and then wait for your delicious food to magically be made, mostly behind the scenes. It also means less time waiting in a line before you have your first interaction with an employee. And speaking of Bagel Cafe, I see a lot of reviewers saying they were hoping Barry's would fill that void but it fell short. I have fond nostaligic memories of BC too (mostly skipping school to go on bagel runs for drama class), but you may notice, BC actually has a worse rating on Yelp than Barry's. BC bagels were bigger and their cream cheese selection better, I'll give you that. But I think Barry's bagels are chewier and more like what I get on the east coast. I go every Sunday and they never have anything anymore. Since local colleges are back in session they aren't making enough to keep up with demand. If you don't get there at the crack of dawn you won't get what you want. They don't wipe the knives between cutting the last person's food to cutting yours which transfers their mayonnaise or saucy toppings to my plain bagel. It's been sloppy the last few times, but when they do have bagels they are fairly tasty. We randomly found this place while out getting X-rays for my son. Staff was great and friendly. The one man let my boys see the bagels cooking and they loved it. My husband and I both got the hard salami bagel sandwiches which have a large amount of meat on them. Very fresh and delicious. My one son got a chocolate chip bagel PB&J and devoured it.
