The fan on my 2015 Lenovo ThinkPad E550 had been failing. I had previously purchased the part that needed to be replaced. Upon consulting with a number of computer repair shops who could not do it because the part needed to be soldered to the motherboard and that they could not do it and the stupid that could do it were quoting me prices ranging from $175 - $300. I thought with the good reviews that this would be a good place to take my laptop to have the fan replaced and a simple clean up. I couldn't have been more wrong. They fixed the fan after waiting two weeks for the part, but that was the only thing that was done correctly. My computer, which had no real issues other than the fan going in, came home with a variety of issues that had never existed until Boone got their hands on it. I can no longer save a Word file as a PDF, can no longer work from Dropbox, have numerous error messages, and the computer shuts off for no reason. Things that never happened until they touched it. I took it back in to have them fix these issues, but instead they told me all of the reasons that these things were happening and that it had nothing to do with them and that there was nothing that they could really do. I was extremely pleased with the service and help that I got at Boon PC. I got a dreaded virus/trojan horse and Boon was able to remove the malicious software and fix my computer w/in 3 hours. BoonPC has been fixing our computers for about 10 years now. The most recent was a week ago when my son's Dell Laptop's hard drive crashed. While the owner displays a great sense of humor, he is also a fine technician with solid diagnostic and repair skills. We followed his advice, bought a new 500 GB hard drive and a portable back-up hard drive at a local discount retailer. Then Boon was able to recover all the data, copy it to the portable hard drive and reinstate it on the new hard drive. All this with a smile and within 24 hours. My son is happy again. Boon PC was great throughout the entire process. I am new to the area and it was hard to find a good PC repair shop in the area. After a long process of going to various store and shops I came across one of 2 places. 1. A repair shop run by a technician out of their home that uses second-hand parts online such as Ebay with a low hourly rate (around $60). 2. A repair shop that has an actual business location / shop that has an in-house technician that uses OEM parts directly from the manufacturer but at a slightly higher per hour labor rate ($75- $150). Boon PC falls into the latter category. They do a free diagnostic on your computer when you bring it in and call the respective manufacturer to locate exactly the parts that you need. They try to find the cheapest possible parts from the manufacturer and get back to you within a couple days to let you know how much the parts are. I think that if you are able to get an official OEM part directly from the manufacturer for only a marginally higher labor rate that is a no question better option when it comes to computer repairs. They are really informative throughout the entire process and have a quick turnaround. For my specific problem I got a call that same day about pricing for a part they located through ASUS and had it delivered and repaired within three days. They charged $75 for labor and with the price of parts the repair came out to the same price as just the labor fee at other repair shops around the DMV area. I also did not want to keep having my computer opened and put back together multiple times shopping around to multiple places. For reference I went to about 6 different repair shops around the DMV area including Best Buy (which is a bit of a rookie mistake on my part because I didnt know the area). When it comes to repair stores / shops it is hard to find an honest place at a great price. I think Boon PC is one of those repair shops that is quick, honest, and a good value in terms of pricing. I will definitely recommend them to anyone that has a PC repair issue and I will use them again should any problems arise in the future (fingers crossed that I dont have any). read more

Because my battery was pretty much dead and I couldn't charge the machine, that tiny piece of metal made my machine useless. i found boon on yelp. i love yelp. i now love boon PC, too. i think of computers a lot like cars. they are machines. many, many people use these machines on a daily basis yet don't really understand their inner workings and worse, would be somewhere b/w hugely inconvenienced and totally stranded w/o them. i feel like cars & computers should be on those "life skills" lists in school curricula that are unfortunately still electives but will hopefully one day be required courses (think woodshop, home ec, etc). but for now i am with the masses who drive/use machines every day and don't know how they really work so we are at the mercy of mechanics and IT experts. it's kind of scary being @ the mercy of these folks. a lot of them are shady or just charge insanely high prices for simple work b/c they can. boon PC is NOT in either aforementioned category, thank goodness. i arrived @ boon around 3 in the afternoon and was out by 3:25 with a fully functioning computer that i'd previously feared for dead. not only was it painless, it was cheap (granted, the issue was very small even though it initially presented as a HD failure). and, i was also told to get down to my car quickly b/c that part of wisconsin avenue does not allow parking after 3:30 PM (for rush hour), and that if i ever have to come back they have free parking in the back. they saved my computer, and a potential parking ticket. awesome, friendly and fast service for a great price + helping me stay online and out of the DMV? I've used Boon PC for at least 5 different jobs in the last 10 years, and I've had great experiences every time. They've removed viruses, recovered data, replaced corrupted hard drives, replaced power units...you name it, they've done it for me. In my opinion, this is one of the best and most reasonable service providers (of any type, not just computers) in the DC area. They give you an honest assessment of our problem, clear any work with you in advance, allow you to purchase your own components (not trying to gouge you on sales commissions), and they get the work done promptly. In cases where I needed components, I just purchased them from Amazon and had them delivered directly to the business. The only problem I've ever had with Boon PC was during their transition between locations, but a quick check of their website explained the problem, and who among us hasn't experienced problems with the phone company? After deleting some files, I really wanted to take my business to this guy based on the excellent reviews here. I called him several times both on Tuesday and Wednesday during normal business hours. No answer. Because I needed those deleted work files desperately, I drove to the address listed here, on Wisconsin Avenue. When I got there, there was a sign on the door indicating he moved to Montgomery St.. When I arrived at his Montgomery Street location around 11am on Wednesday July 23, his doors were closed and locked. All that was displayed was a "Will Return" clock pointing to 10am (since it was already 11am, I guess he meant 10am the following day). When it comes to customer service, I find it's the little things really make a difference. The fact that there was no sign on his business saying "Sorry for the inconvenience, but we had to close today" and no voicemail are poor ways of doing business these days, I think. They're such easy fixes. Just to complete the story, I went to Advanced Computer Repair in Tenley, dropped my computer off around noon, picked it up the next day before closing. The price was a little steep, but Abraham found all my files. And he was very courteous, too, which goes a long way in my book. read more

Brought my computer here for freezing. They did some stuff that made it start back up and probably made sense but didn't fix the problem because it's freezing again the same way. I tried to ask the woman there what exactly was wrong with it and she gave me a long list of things they'd done, but got very defensive when I tried to nail down what exactly was wrong. She was really rude and turned it back on me like my idiocy caused the problem that they'd heroically fixed. I went by Boon's on Saturday to have him assess my aging laptop. He recommended a new hard drive and I decided I wanted some additional RAM. I purchased the needed items at Microcenter in Rockville. I brought the laptop and parts into him on Monday at 10AM. My laptop was ready for pickup at 5pm Monday, having been tuned up, parts installed and memory cloned. I brought my laptop in to PCBoon because the fan was overheating. The service was pretty fast and they cleaned my fan for $75 , which seemed cheaper than most. The hard disk on my laptop failed several months ago, and I kept putting off dealing with it for fear of being given the run around, being charged a fortune for repair, or being told that the data was unrecoverable. Finally decided to check Yelp for local technicians and came across Boon. He diagnosed the problem immediately, sent me on my way to a computer store with a recommended replacement part, then switched it in, re-installed my operating system, and recovered and reloaded all the data from my failed drive within 48 hours. I needed a screen replacement and had been having an issue with Flash playback, so I took my laptop in to Boon PC. They 1) Successfully replaced the bad screen with the one I had brought in. Good job. 2) Failed to make any headway on the flash issue. Fine, that's a tricky one. 3) Somehow managed to break my firewall. Ok, I can reinstall a firewall. 4) Gave me back a different power adapter than the one I had brought in, and asserted that they couldn't possibly have made a mistake, even though the wattage was wrong and the plug-point was different. Not ok. Now I need to buy a new one. In sum, I gained a part and lost a part. This is fantastic for a swap meet, but not ideal in a repair shop. Two stars because I never dealt with Boon himself, and he might provide better service than the others there. read more

Once again I relied on Mr. Boon and once again he came through solidly. Today my PS2 keyboard was not working on my desktop, but worked on a friends PC. Mr. Boon diagnosed it over the phone as a bad PS2 board, suggested I purchased an inexpensive one with a USB keyboard. Worked like a charm and he did not even want or need to look at my computer. All over the phone. Another time I had a bad power supply which he diagnosed. He sent me to MicroCenter and then installed a new one at minimal cost. A friend had a significant virus problem which Mr. Boon quickly and inexpensively repaired, saving all the data. I'm so happy I found this place. After dropping my laptop, I would generally have to hit the power button repeatedly for it to turn on. One day, it stopped turning on at all. I had not backed up the data. I looked online and found BoonPC. I was able to make it in just 10 minutes before closing, and handed over my laptop for them to lol at. It was an ultrabook and these tend to be harder to open and work on because of how thin they are. I was hoping they could at least recover the data. To my surprise, I got a call two days later and they had fixed my laptop, it was turning on and working just fine. I was advised not to drop it again :) read more
