My Windows computer was restarting constantly and couldn't be used, so I took it to the Computer Technology Center. It had restarted so many times that some security feature was preventing all logins. First, they had to solve the login problem by cracking Windows security. Then they ran diagnostic tests that revealed RAM faults, requiring a new motherboard. In a few days, the new motherboard arrived, and now the computer is back home and working perfectly. This is the same sort of experience I've had before with the Computer Technology Center, so I was not surprised. Their office is open--they don't take your machine to another room. They'll do the diagnosis right in front of you. If the repair is simple, they'll make the repair while you watch. This openness gives one great confidence in their work. My five year old Dell laptop was running extremely slow. I found an Ultra Viewer app which I did not add, so I was probably hacked. I called Michael and met the next day at his office. I was mentally prepared to toss the laptop and buy a new one, but Michael asked to keep overnight. When I returned the next day Michael and his technician Sheyhan had replaced the hard drive, reloaded my documents and photos after scanning for viruses, etc. Even helped me get a feel for new software. I brought my Lenovo laptop in after it shut down seemingly out of nowhere. Mike initially took a look at thought it may be an issue with the jack and charging the laptop. He told me it may take a few days but he'd have it back to me once the jack was replaced. He called 4 days later letting me know that the jack was not the issue and he needed to investigate further. He and his team then went through diagnosing the issue and swapping out the motherboard not once, but THREE TIMES because the first 2 were causing errors. They did not give up on fixing the problem, and continued to work to find a solution. When I picked up the laptop, it started up EXACTLY as I had it when it shut down. Even when I logged on to the internet, the same tabs opened right back up. I could not believe how seamless it was. And, although it took longer than expected, Mike still charged me the original quote that he had given me. Highly highly recommend them for computer issues! I was trying to perform a system restore via safe mode and Windows 10 locked me out for some reason. I tried multiple methods of trying to login but the system wouldn't take my password. Several people said it would be easier and cheaper to just do a clean install of Windows 10 and to transfer the data out to another hard drive. I prefer not to do that but I gave up on trying to fix the password issue. I brought the PC to CTC with that intent but they said they would try to fix the password issue with some software before they'd consider a clean install. 3 hours later, Michael said he fixed the issue. I owned a business computer services company years back so I know better than to go to these chains who are generally not well-trained in trouble-shooting. That kind of service takes time and is not high profit. Replacing computers or major components is much less labor-intensive, thus higher profit. I had spilled a large glass of water on my laptop and basically transformed it into a desktop, because it would no longer run on the battery. Mike tried to save me the cost of buying a new battery, but in the end, it was necessary, and even then we were not sure that it would solve the problem, but it did. HIGHLY RECOMMEND I had a hard drive failure on my Lenovo laptop. As recommended on a google group I took it to a computer store in Gaithersburg, MD. After leaving it for a couple of days I get a call saying that the HD is fried and they don't see any data at all and they charged me $35. Though I had a backup of the data I wanted to make sure I didn't lose anything. I lost all hope. Then I was referred to Computer Technology Center by Sean (three stores away from CTC), BTW who is a great cell phone repair guy. Michael took my laptop and told me to callback the next day and said he will have an status update. I was amazed by his confidence. Well I didn't get a call for a couple of days and I lost all hope all over again. On the third day Michael called and said I had lots of data on the HD (Pics/Videos/Files) and the data recovery has been going on for a few days. Finally he determined that it was a bad HD and replaced it with a brand new one and restored all data (I repeat all data) from the old one. What a great job Michael. I started having problem with my HP Chromebook and called around to see who can service it. Surprisingly, all of the computer repairs shops I called said that they do not fix Chromebooks. Michael at Computer Technology Center is the first to say: "Bring it over, I'll take a look!" For sure they were able to reinstall the operating system and make it work again. I since brought the Chromebook there again because the screen wouldn't even turn on. Mike reassured me that they will take a look to see if it is worth it to fix it. After spending hours and hours trouble shooting, it was fixed. But since I had brought the Chromebook in before, he charged me very reasonably rate for having spending many hours on it. The manager is incredibly cranky and refuses to listen to reason. Kept on insisting that it has to do with my hardrive in my imac and not some other hardware problem. Not to mention he is a douche bag and does not have any patience with his customers. You are better of taking your system to Micro Center a few miles away or some other experienced repair service that has the proper equipped knowledge and better customer service. Great service and value! I really don't understand how he keeps his prices so low - Mike (the owner) is great. The store is in a convenient location and I am guessing high-rent. But service is super friendly, fast and incredibly reasonable! I am not a high maintenance customer, as I would rather have "almost perfect" and "cheap/reasonable" rather than "perfect/like new" and expensive. Mike at Computer Technology delivers in spades. I work in DC but live in the boonies - and I go back and forth to Computer Technology Center from the Rockville Metro/MARC on foot (lt 1 mile) for my computer repairs - he has fixed a Dell 2 in 1 for me as well as a higher-end ASUS for my wife (two different occasions both HW and SW) . He also did a quick fix on my old spare Netbook that didn't quite work 100% (and I never bothered to let him know) , but the repair cost was something like $20 so how could I complain?! My laptop began starting with error messages. Not satisfied with where I had bought and been taking my laptop for service, I Googled other computer repair businesses in or near Rockville. I found Computer Technology Center, which had good reviews on yelp! I went there, and Mike diagnosed that I needed a newer technology hard drive. He said that my laptop would be ready by noon of the following day. He called later the day that I took the laptop in and said I could pick it up yet that same afternoon. He also spent considerable time troubleshooting problems that I had in editing events on the yahoo calendar. Although the problem appeared to be a "corrupt" calendar, Mike suggested a workaround that allows me to at least now edit calendar events. This is likely the best computer repair place you will find in the world. The service is concise and to the point. Their only concern is fixing your computer, and giving you the bottom line price. They tell you--this part costs this much, new or aftermarket, and will guide you properly. I wanted a new replacement part, he said "no, there's no need". I have no idea, i trusted him and it works like brand new and saved me an extra 70 dollars on one part alone. he fixed a cosmetic problem with my touchpad mouse button FOR FREE!! That's not to say he can always do that, but it was a minor fix and he just did it without even mentioning it. He charges you the exact cost of the parts, plus so little for labor that you almost want to offer more money. Instead of giving him extra money for a job done fast, properly, and with gusto, i offered to write an honest review of my experience. I cannot tell you how happy I am with my experience. Mike is a great man for working so hard and being so generous, I greatly appreciate his service. Don't worry about him being curt with you, he only wants to fix your computer as fast as possible, not hang out with you while you tell him how you broke it and what you were thinking about while you broke it. I was getting unhelpful windows errors when trying to upgrade an old desktop to Windows 10, and Mike at CTC was great at figuring it out.
