Booby's is your basic Greek-owned fast food place (really, it's a step up from fast food). This is my go-to place for gyros. But I've tried a number of menu items - burger, steak sandwich, salads, soups - and they're quite good. Plus, they have a really broad menu with things like pepper & egg sandwiches, and char-broiled salami sandwiches (seriously). Things are made fresh, so expect a wait during the lunch or dinner rush. The dining room is pleasant enough; you can expect to see young un's dining with parents and seniors here. I was looking for a cheap dinner place in the area, and Yelp research directed me here. I can say that it met expectations, so thank you to the previous reviewers. The steak sandwich was highly praised, so I wanted that. Good luck finding it on the menu: It's in small font under the dinners section. Maybe it's so popular that they don't need to advertise it. $10.95 for the whole shebang, but that's substituting onion rings for the fries. When I got the tray, I wasn't sure that I could eat all of it. The sandwich is immense, but it doesn't come with anything on it. I thought, "Geez, how boring." But it was really good; it must be the sauce. The steak was decent quality, and the bread also very good. I threw a few onion rings in the sandwich for good measure. The onion rings were disappointing; I liked the fries but I'd have preferred them crispier. The cole slaw was a bit too sweet, but they give you a nice big cup of the stuff. Dessert bonus: they have chocolate malts AND rice pudding. Naturally, I ordered both and took the pudding home. I saw the guy making the shake with either mix or soft-serve from a machine, but it tasted decent. You could feel the grains of malt powder in there though. $2.65 for a 16-ounce shake is a good deal. B. The pudding was next day's lunch dessert. They dust it with cinnamon but it has no raisins. The sweetness level was good, but the rice grains were hard and too overbearing. Worst of all, the filler (or whatever you want to call the smooth part of the pudding) was too thick and custardy. C+ for the pudding. Simple yet good approach on every dish is what I think of Booby's (yes, that's the name of the place). I was looking for a place to feed my son before he goes back to his dentist which is not far from the restaurant. I have never been to this place but their huge sign said "Ribs and Chicken Dinner"for I forgot how much... Well, they got me at "ribs". So I decided to give it a shot, plus, I'm bad at directions so I didn't want to go further away from the dental clinic:) My son ordered spaghetti with meatsauce and an additional order of meatballs. This comes with a choice of soup(he chose creamy chicken) and bread(with butter on the side). I ordered grilled chicken sandwich. The guys at the counter will give you your receipt and they will call your number when it's time to get your food from the counter. The spaghetti is served on a big plate and it was delicious. The meatsauce was tasty and not too heavy while the meatballs did not disappoint us too. I tried the cream of chicken soup, it had the right creaminess to it and there were pieces of white rice and chicken. Moving on, the Grilled Chicken sandwich was very satisfying. The chicken was big and cooked well. Overall, based from what we've had, I would like to believe that the other items on the menu are just as good as what we've tried. Mind u he only waited 2 minutes and 15 seconds at the door (have the video on RING to prove it)!! When I answered he yelled at me and told me he has better things to do and he is busy!!! Well... I tried apologizing after I stated I was in the basement with my daughter and was trying to rush up the stairs!! Then he went on to yell and scare my son by saying "WHAT IS YOUR DOORBELL BROKEN OR SOMETHING"??? In a loud very mean voice! Meh. This was my first trip there even though I grew up just a few miles away. I had the steak sandwich, which I expected to be better based on the price and reviews. It was tough and flavorless. After I tasted it and realized I couldn't eat it dry, I asked if they had a horseradish sauce. She looked at me like I was green and told me there was bbq sauce in the ketchup squeeze bottle on the table. I repeated the question about horseradish sauce (the only thing that I thought might at least make it mildly palatable), and again she pointed me to the bbq sauce on the table. Oh, boy. I squirted some on, but it didn't help much. I ended up taking half home, and also had half a steak sandwich left over from the restaurant where I'd eaten the previous day (Howard Street Inn). I heated them up and ate them at the same time -- The other one was much more tender, on better bread, and overall just a much better experience. Oh, and it cost less, too. My young adult son was with me, and he had the ribs. He said they were okay but unremarkable. Yesterday we stopped into Boobys to celebrate a closing on a real estate deal and I had suggested this place remembering there incredible steak sandwich hoping to share my experience with my friend. I come from a Mediterranean family and I know a LOT about food so I am a critic on quality especially since the supermarket industry has been tattooed to my veins I purchased 2 steak sandwich dinners . I have had chicken rice soup my whole life so I know what I'm in for when i am offered this soup. Unfortunately it was like a thickened flour base that had no taste. I would say a thickened jello pudding named avgolemono.( but not even close) So I placed the cover on the soup and said well this is not good not a big deal. I reach for my steak sandwich and notice that they served my $28 Steak dinner sandwich on an 8 inch paper plate( PAPER PLATE). I'm sorry if a customer is paying over $25 for an entree the fries and sandwich should be presented well onsidering your fabulous reputation as a fast food establishment. Now I understand times are really hard to find workers but there were 4 son in laws and sons all just walking around in there service area not willing to want to help work. So I take it they fired the help and ditched the plates for plastic plates. The steak sandwich had no sauce and was not even tenderized. I would say i had enough of my food experience and was ashamed. I told my client I am really sorry for the poo ervice and terrible quality. Initially I wanted to go to Gibsons but he needed to be closer to his next location so we chose this place. My client told me to go and ask for a refund or even a partial refund or a raincheck of some sort so we can at least try coming back to give it another chance. Food is fine. Steak sandwich is decent, but for the money I'd order something else. It's well cooked and tenderized, so it works. Steak itself is kind of bland, but their tangy bbq sauce on the side is the missing element. Burgers are decent. Unless you really like crinkle cut fries, the fries kind of suck. Cole slaw is kind of soggy and sad. I'd probably opt for other sides if I came back. The people working the counter aren't rude per se, but they aren't exactly friendly. Witnessed one very gruff interaction with a customer over where they left a tray, felt kind of off. Also feels like they're very concious of costs, which I understand, but is strange when it appears in weird ways. Felt like I had to beg for an extra small container of sauce, and the to-go bags don't include napkins or utensils for food that required it. Prices aren't exactly cheap for the food either. All in all it's a fine place to eat if you're in the area, but with a dozen similar restaurants a short drive away, it doesn't really have anything special going for it. read more

I've eaten here several times over the past few weeks and in the area this is a solid choice. I give them a star just for putting BBQ sauce on the table. It drives me nuts when restaurants are stingy with BBQ sauce or even worse, want to charge for it. Hmmm, I can get a gallon of ketchup for free, but an 1oz of BBQ sauce is 50 cents? Steak (skirt) sandwich is pretty good and @ $10 for a nice portion with 2 sides is a great deal. I read some reviews that the price puts it beyond a "typical lunch"; so buddy go get a value meal. The chicken kabob is pretty good as well, but the stated 15min wait became 20. So if you are in a hurry, get something else. If you have the time, get one and you will not be disappointed. I have been going to Booby's since I moved to the Chicago area in 1963. The last time I went there the steak sandwich dinner was $16.99. Today it was $19.99 plus tax which made it $22.24. I asked for grilled onions and a baked potato and soup. When I got home there were no grilled onions and the steak was hard to chew. There was just a plain baked potato with no sour cream or butter like there usually is. I am never spending that kind of money again for a terrible meal. I won't be back. read more

They are known for their steak sandwich and well, it's good BUT, it is not good enough to put up with the bad attitude. They are literally the rudest people, so don't expect a "hello", "thank you", or "come again", they take your money and act like they are doing YOU a favor. There is one little short bald guy who is constantly using profanity and yelling-I mean he says some of the most rude and inappropriate things and yells loud enough for the whole dining area to hear; it is so awkward and uncomfortable to eat in an environment like that. As far as the restaurant itself, its a bit old fashion looking (1980's wooden salad bowls and mauve banquet chairs) and the food (other than the steak sandwich) is so-so. I have been going here for 40 years, and the 1 and only reason is the steak sandwich, it is really good, and hasn't changed in that time. I get it with fries(crinkle cut), or sometimes rice. You get a really big sandwich, 2 sides, and a drink. The rest of the menu is just like any other fast food place, maybe with the exception of the Greek chicken. The one thing I really don't like here,is the staff, they act as if there doing you a favor taking your order, they are very rude at times, and I wish they had a drive thru, so I don't have to deal with them. I swear to god, the driving force that made me go here is because the friend I went with thought it would be hilarious if his "check-in" was at Booby's. Because he's apparently 12 years old. Booby's filled a need for a quick, casual and inexpensive dinner. We both got their famous steak sandwich, which comes with fries, baked potato or rice, and soup, salad or cole slaw. It's a good amount of food for the money. A steak sandwich runs just over $10. This place was quite the hot and happening spot for senior citizens. It almost looked like a high school cafeteria with different cliques eating and talking about everyone else (except with octogenarians instead of 'tweens). The food was decent. They don't ask what temperature you prefer your steak cooked, so I was a little nervous that it would be horribly overcooked, and while it was cooked more than I prefer, it wasn't bad. It was tender, well-seasoned, and huge. I chose fries and salad as my sides and the salad was nice and fresh and the fries were crinkle cut (my favorite), piping hot, but nothing you haven't had before. All of the food is made to order so you may have to wait a few minutes. Their menu is extensive and as I mentioned, reasonably priced. They had special full slab ribs for 14.95 include 2 sides , it was delicious. I got the rice & soup as my sides.
