Excellent tasty meats. The beef is especially tender. The fact that it's halal means the meat is humanely processed-- a big deal nowadays. Great for families, birthdays at the hibachi table. What a fun night at Bonsai Fusion Japanese Steakhouse. Wednesdat night we arrived and asked to be seated at the bar so that we could enjoy our dinner and the Astros baseball game. Although the bar was quite full they made accomodations for us. We ordered a really nice bottle of wine and ordered appetizers, sushi and sushi rolls from the Happy Hour (All Day) menu. Terrible new chef- I have been here more than a dozen times and always get hibachi so its safe to say I KNOW HOW THINGS ARE SUPPPOSED TO BE DONE. We got a new chef on this trip (Eller Villareal) and I immediately told him I wanted mild fried rice but my husband wanted his rice spicy. So he goes and gets a bottle or sriracha and puts it right by my husbands plate. Ok?? I thought maybe he didnt hear me so I said again my husband wants the chile oil in his rice. So he says they have to do that in back. Huh? My husband then says we always get it done this way so the chef says yes but they chile oil is in the back kitchen. Ok? So does he wants us to go get it? So he asks waitress to get and again he puts it by my husband. This time I'm just annoyed so I leave it alone. Next he starts our meat, shrimp and vegetables. He focuses on meat and the shrimp is on grill the whole time. Now shrimp is supposed to be appetizer and doesn't take long to cook. Well we got shrimp AFTER steak. It was rubbery and over cooked. Secondly they give these two sauces with meat. We got our meat and i asked waitress for sauce and she says chef has the sauce and tells him to give. Well it took another 20min after he done with everything to give us sauce. For 2 of us its $60 total to have ribeye hibachi which is a nice chunk of change. I grew up in Cypress and have been going to Bonsai for over 20 years. Today was the worst experience, service wise, I have ever had at Bonsai, or any restaurant honestly. 1. Waitress didn't know what beers they had and looked it up on her phone (?) even though the fridge is right there. Also there was difficulty making my lychee champagne. 2. Once the sushi came out, had to wait for someone so we could ask for napkins, chop sticks and soy sauce. 3. Once my food came out, had to wait for someone so I could ask for a fork. 4. I asked if they could turn on the TV as we were sitting at the bar in front of the TV. I asked if they could turn on a sports channel. Waitress had difficulty figuring out how to work the TV and then put on some animal channel showing animals eating and being attacked. I asked the waiter if he could please change it to something sports related. Waitress goes, "WHATTTT DON'T CHANGE IT." I said, "I specifically asked for a sports channel and do not want to watch dead animals while eating." The manager ended up coming over to change it because nobody knows how to work the TV. 5. Speaking of that, 90% of the time the waitress was sitting at the end of the bar, on her phone texting, with a sprite and a drink umbrella. Even when customers came in she did not put away her phone. This was right in front of where the manager sits. I do not know why a manager would allow such unprofessional behavior. I have worked at a few restaurants and that would not be allowed. 6. We ordered two pieces of sushi off of the happy hour menu but received two entire rolls so the order was entered in the system wrong. Not a huge deal...but definitely made our bill higher than originally expected. 7. THE KITCHEN MUSIC. OMG. It was blaring. When a song would end, I could hear the TV for 2 seconds, but once the next song came on, you don't hear anything other than the most annoying music in the entire world. 8. When we asked for the check, the waitress gave it to us and stood there until we put up our credit card. Felt rushed and awkward. Even more awkward was after my boyfriend signed and tipped, he kept the check next to him at the bar. The waitress kept coming over and asked us if we were all done because she likely wanted to see the tip. Again, unprofessional. There were a ton of other small things but these were the 8 that bugged me the most. I know the waiter and waitress are probably new, and definitely need a lot of training, such as providing soy sauce and chopsticks with sushi, napkins, fork etc. without having to be asked. I want to give props to the waiter for definitely trying his best and putting in a tremendous amount of effort. I cannot say the same about the waitress. Management, you need to step up, train your staff and get rid of people who make someone who has been going to your restaurant for over 20 years never go back again. read more

Stopped and had dinner here while the hubs and I waited for our girls to get out of a concert. We were a little iffy at first from the look of the outside but man I'm so glad we stayed and tried it out. We asked for hibachi seating and got a table to ourselves. I wish I could give this review no stars! We went in a group for a nice hibachi dinner for my best friends birthday. The service was horrible. They forgot to give us our soup appetizer. The waiter never came to check on us. I had to get up twice to ask for him. The cook didn't perform the show and we had 2 first timers. The portions were small from the salad to the veggies the chicken/steak. They didn't even sing my friend happy birthday. From beginning to end this place is horrible! Don't waste your time or money. Go to Shogun! The portions are bigger, the quality is better and it's even cheaper for hibachi! When I asked for a manager they said she's busy and it took 15 minutes for a young girl who I don't believe was the manager to come talk to us. She told me the cook has been complained on for not doing a show times prior. She said she would discount our meals. She came back a few minutes later saying the cook told her he did a show for us. I had her bring him out to lie to everyone's face. The girl told me there was some circumstances where she was not able fire that cook so they have to deal with him. We got our tickets, there was no discount and the gratuity was added. We waited 30mins for 10% off. The staff continued to apologize but given how the girl acted and handled the situation, she was not the manager. Ive been going to hibachi dinners for my birthday, friends birthdays and special occasions for over a decade. This was one of the worst experiences I have had. Ordered through ubereats and we could not have been more impressed. We had the salmon roll, spicy tuna roll, copperfield roll, Stay at home chicken special and chicken yakisoba. Everything was ridiculously good. The rolls came separately packed from the warm food and they were still a little chill and the warm foods came hot. The stay at home chicken special was incredible- chicken, veggies, fried rice, and salad with ginger dressing. I ordered from this restaurant on DoorDash, and the food was delicious. I ordered the steak hibachi, and the steak was good, vegetables were amazing, and rice was perfect! I also ordered the rock n roll sushi and the taste was okay, but there was barely any crab and was majority rice. Also, it was not sticky enough, and fell apart very easily. What a gem of a place! Such a fun and clean environment that does take out and hibachi style cooking right in front of you! This is my favorite hibachi place is HOUSTON. I have been to many, and I don't just eat zabiha so for al you zabiha only eaters out there, this place is a dub for you because the quality of there meat is unbeatable when compared to the others. I usually get the ribeye and chicken and my wife gets the filet and chicken, both are amazing, both served with fried rice and there house sauce is perfect with the rice and meat. Great show at the hibachi grill, the waiter was extremely lacking however. We had to ask for several things two and there times. Food was delicious though hence the four stars. I love the fact that they had tuna on hibachi menu. We will definitely be back, I loved it. This is always our go to place for hibachi, we have of course tried others but see no reason not to continue to come here. Our first stop was the hibachi place in town center, but they had an hour wait so we came here. The music leaves a lot to be desired; the very first song we heard tonight had the phrase 'bet she doesn't f*&k like me' and had the 'f bomb' a few more times. Disappointing. But again food was good and plentiful and the grill show was par for the course. Also business seems to have picked up noticeably since we first started coming in a few years ago. Good to see. My sister told me about how good this place's hibachi is, so I had to try it for myself - turned out she wasn't kidding. In my opinion its better than Benihana in terms of quality and affordability. Speaking of the hibachi here, you just cant go wrong with the fried rice and steak. The chicken is pretty good too. Few words of advice: always pick the filet mignon steak over the regular steak! It's just so much more tender and flavorful - but that should be common sense to a steak lover. However, the best thing about having the filet mignon instead of the regular steak here is that both are priced equally (and I'm hoping it stays that way). Be careful though! They run out of it fast. It happened to me once when I convinced my whole family to come try it. We were pissed, but they made it up to us with extra food! I can't forget to mention that our hibachi cook was very friendly, funny and entertaining so we had an overall pleasant dining experience. The next couple of times I skipped out on the hibachi and had the "chicken teriyaki bento box" for dinner, in which they give you a soup appetizer (make sure to get the onion & mushroom one!), followed by your bento box with tender chicken in a delicious teriyaki gravy w/ mushrooms and bean sprouts. Sides include fried rice, salad, fried vegetables, and an egg roll - all this for $10.99+tax!! I can relate to some of the low ratings as we quit coming here a few years ago other than take-out. The hibachi side was too expensive and not very impressive, and the restaurant side was dark and dingy and the seats were worn and dirty. But today when I went to pick up my take out, it looked and felt much nicer. The dirty seats have been replaced and the overall feel of the restaurant side was vastly improved. They told me their next step is to get rid of that huge useless space near the entrance that is never used for anything. Nicer furnishings, nicer lighting, just overall a nicer feeling and we will give dining in another shot. The take out (combo fried rice) was great as always. They always give us some of that white sauce for the rice which we really like. If I'm waiting, they always offer me water or tea. We have never experienced rudeness there from anyone. Once we got seated the server did a great job on changing our experience. The food was delicious and the chef tried to make us laugh. We were just too hungry to laugh. Honestly this restaurant shouldn't get 1 star! This establishment is horrible. They make your order to just sit and get cold despite asking for a specific time. Ended up here on a total whim. Originally wanted to get Mexican food, but both spots had been permanently SHUT DOWN! So my husband found Bonsai Fusion on Yelp and we were beyond intrigued by the pictures and the fact that the food is halal. We were not disappointed! I ordered combination fried rice which includes beef, chicken, and shrimp. I asked to make it spicy, and it was just perfect. My husband ordered the Teriyaki Steak which comes with steamed vegetables, grilled shrimp, and rice. For dessert we ordered fried ice cream which was great. Keep in mind, this place also has an extensive sushi menu, but will definitely have to try it out next time. Drove all the way out to Bonsai from the med center and it didn't disappoint. Came with a group of 10, so we all were seated at one hibachi table. Server took long to take our orders and the hibachi chef took even longer to come out but once the chef came, he was awesome. He did the typical tricks with some added ones I'd never seen before and I've been to many different hibachi restaurants. Portion sizes were good. Prices were decent considering the meat is halal.
