From the moment she walked in the staff is kind and helpful. The atmosphere is that of a small sushi bar with a spattering of tables, feels very traditional. I ordered the sushi sashimi combo, which was absolutely amazing, I was so surprised it was better than anything I could've expected. I also ordered a spider roll and I won't be ordering another spider roll from them. It came absolutely drenched in eel sauce and mayonnaise, and when they saw that I was upset with how it was made, they offered to remake it for me which I allowed them to do and when it came back, it was definitely much better, but just does not hold up to most sushi restaurants so I will concentrate on the great aspect, which was the sushi and sashimi which was very fresh smelling. It had a good taste. The cuts were beautifully done. I would definitely go back and order their sushi and/or sashimi. The price was reasonable and again the staff was amazing and friendly so if you're out in the highway, six 529 area definitely give it a try.

I'm not ever disappointed whether I dine in or out! Thoughtful and attentive service. Always clean.

Omakase with mackerel- I love having many small dishes in one meal.

I don't know what took us so long to try this place. It is in a little corner of an unassuming shopping strip in front of Home Depot. We have ordered door dash and eaten there. We usually order an omakase for the adults and a udon for our kid. Omakase is pictured below and is just a deconstructed bento box- main meal, edamame, miso soup, tempura veggies and purple rice. It is a reasonable price for all the food (~$13-15). The udon has a good amount of noodles and the one we ordered had an anchovy broth. It was good. Service is really attentive and kind. Restaurant is small, painted with Japanese images with dim lighting. Nothing fancy, but a nice little restaurant to grab Japanese food.

UPDATE: During our latest visit on July 22, 2023, the cuisine was quite underwhelming and much worse than expected. The sashimi didn't even taste the same anymore. While it would be rash to pass judgement because of this, at the very least, it shows that Hikari has all the same problems as Asakusa in Fort Wayne: A place that can be good, but is wildly inconsistent. As such, I have to knock this place down to the tier of "below expectations". ---------- ORIGINAL REVIEW ---------- Cheap and good sushi in HOUSTON? No freaking way! So I used an UberEats promo to get myself an Avobomb and a sashimi combination on the affordable, fully expecting suburb-class sushi. After all, this summer's been hell on the sweats, and I really needed some cold food to cool my tongue. And lo and behold they actually brought me the gouda cheesefish (what I call good hamachi). The only other place I've been to in the U.S. that has gouda cheesefish is Sushi Ukai in the great Chicagoland. Now, is it the best sashimi I've ever tasted? Heck no. I'd be kidding myself to suggest that it's in the same class as Sushi Ukai or Sushi Hokkaido Sachi in Saigon. But the fact that it's even close is already quite commendable, considering how this set is like $2.25 per piece, UberEats sale notwithstanding. Each piece is also cut quite long and thin: Big, yet easy to digest, unlike the usual blocks of coldwater wrapped in protein fibers that so often adorn the prime real estate of American strip malls. You see, a good piece of fish should have its own unique, distinctly defined flavor. One may think that raw fish would taste like freshwater for the most part, which is true in any place named "Sakura" or "Fuji". However, in actuality: salmon should taste soft and creamy, tuna bold and savory, escolar smooth and buttery, octopus fresh and chewy, albacore sharp and sardinish, tai (red snapper) like nothing at all, and hamachi (yellowtail) for some reason tastes like gouda cheese. All of which describe the sashimi set at Hikari perfectly. A light down the infinite highway of Houston, indeed. ("Hikari" means light, by the way.) Oh, and uh, the avocado bomb is good too, I guess. It's one of those American-style over-engineered and deep-fried appetizers that I enjoy in a vacuum, but would rather not write much about. TL;DR Pretty good feesh.

I have been visiting this restaurant recently, and so far, I have almost ordered half of the whole menu, and everything is so fresh, tasty, and beautifully decorated with real orchids. My favorite so far. 100% recommended.

Surprisingly lovely, intimate, beautiful atmosphere for looking so bland on the outside! My husband and I went on a date here, and we spent 2 hours here enjoying the food and drinks and talking, it felt so relaxing and intimate. Lovely experience, will be coming back for sure.

Take a close look at the noodle from this bowl of ramen . This is from a bag that you can get from Ranch 99.

We came here on a Thursday night hoping to get a good Ramen noodle soup for dinner , we ordered the Seared Pepper Tuna ramen , to our HUGE disappointment they brought out the ramen noodle that we could of bought at Ranch 99 or HMART and cook it ourself at home . Unbelievable on how they can serve this. The staff was nice and courteous, no faults of their own for such bad foods. The ambiance is just average , nothing to write home about.

Lots of sushi options! They have a little bit of everything here too. I would absolutely come back here as well as the service was fast and the staff were very attentive. They have other options instead of just sushi too like fried rice, teriyaki bowls and more. It is small inside but comfortable. Went here with my husband for lunch and we were in and out in 45 mins.

The food is yummy and the staff is very smiley and friendly. Despite coming in a bit late they were very kind to us and did not rush us out. It's super cute and calm inside. It was a pleasant dinner for my party of three. Thank you Hikari!

Hot sake with a rainbow and tuna mango roll

This place is amazing! My boyfriend and I come here very often for our date nights! The ambience is romantic and lovely and the service is great! We usually order a large bottle of sake and I always order the tuna mango roll. Definitely give this place a try if you love good sushi.

Other than the semi aesthetic decor in the restaurant, everything was horrible... not even sure where to start. Katsu Ramen- "Shin" instant ramen packet with soft boiled egg and very thin katsu. I know because this is the ramen I eat at home. Salmon & Yellowtail Sashimi- tasted plastic. Sweet Shrimp (Ebi)- if you've ever had this somewhere else you'd know this was not fresh. Yakisoba- so salty that we couldn't eat it at all. Atleast they took it off the bill. Sky Diver- insides was very dry, a looooottt of sauce on the outside. Pretty much could only taste sauce and rice. Not sure how this place has such high reviews but I will give 2/5 for doing the right thing and taking off that inedible yakisoba... check still came out to $80 after tips.

Really good experience -- we'll be back!…read more We had a great time at Yamato. The place was clean, comfortable, and the staff were very friendly and attentive without being overbearing. We ordered quite a bit -- bento box, shrimp tempura, chicken hibachi, steak & lobster hibachi, filet mignon hibachi, and tonkotsu ramen -- and honestly everything tasted fresh and well-cooked. The hibachi meats were tender and flavorful, the tempura was crispy, and the ramen had a nice rich broth. Portions were generous too. Overall just a relaxing, enjoyable dinner. Definitely a spot we'd come back to and I'd recommend it to friends and family.

Place was clean and service was fine. Don't be fooled by the pretty presentation. The actual dish I…read moregot was pretty egregious. I ordered the chicken tempura bento box thinking it would be similar to chicken katsu. However I got 3 little 1 cm thick chicken breast slices drenched in batters and oil. It came with one deep fried broccoli, one deep fried sweet potato slice, 1 deep fried zucchini slice, and 1 deep fried onion ring. Very greasy, unappetizing and just tasted like I was eating oil flavored paper towels. The side salad was just iceberg lettuce with a chicken sauce, which wasn't terrible, however looked like vomit. Very unappetizing. Lastly the fried rice was super plain and just not yummy at all. I didn't say anything at the restaurant because I don't want to cause a scene, however paying $20 for this absolute abomination should be illegal lol Miso soup was okay just lacked more toppings (barely had tofu/green onion, seaweed Overall this dish would be perfect for people who are on a mission ti clog their arteries and have a heart attack as soon as possible.
