I've been to the Tempe Bonchon location many many times since they have opened. I've always had positive things to say about bonchon and never have been disappointed. Service and food was always amazing. However last night when I went, I could tell things have changed. Upon walking in, we were not even nicely greeted (mind you there was about like 3 other tables there at the time, so they were not busy at all). Instead our server Joshua directed us to a table and gave us menus. Okay no big deal, however after that is when everything was just going down hill. We ordered chicken and the wait was VERY long. Not a big deal but then we noticed other tables that came in after us started getting food before us. One of the workers noticed and pointed out to the kitchen that our food has not been out for awhile. After awhile it finally came out. Once the food came, I can just tell it was not the same as it was before and let our server know. Our server Joshua was the worst server I have ever had. He was not attentive at all and was even on his phone a few times instead of filling up our waters. I appreciate who I believe is the manager for coming out to talk to us and trying to make things right though. I'm just very disappointed with my visit last night. I used to come to bonchon regularly but so much has changed now. Hopefully they can get back on their feet and make dining there enjoyable again. read more

I'm not a big chicken fan, but I will light up for Bonchon. The sauces and texture of the Korean fried chicken are mouthwatering. The food came out very hot, which I greatly appreciate. We also ordered fried rice, but honestly I just needed the chicken. The space is clean and has a handicap friendly layout. There's a lot of parking and the staff are friendly. My first time here! The chicken was amazing! We got the chicken tenders - spicy and soy garlic. The spicy was pretty spicy But still yummy! We also loved the radishes side dish, but wish they filled it up more. The service was really nice and attentive as well. My only complaint was the fried rice wasn't very flavorful. This is my first time here. I've heard all the comments about this place from my friends who love this place. I got the chicken strips, the traditional wings, and the steamed bun with pork. I really enjoyed the spicy flavor which actually got me asking for more water and ranch. The spice lingers but it tastes really good. The soy garlic is an okay flavor over the spicy flavor in my opinion. My newfound favorite dish is definitely the steamed buns. I'm definitely going to be coming back for those! This place is really cute and small. The servers are super nice. They also serve alcohol and other Korean dishes. It was a really great experience. They have amazing customer service and the food was fantastic.

My first visit was "meh...it was okay," but the 2nd visit was, "damn...this is so yummy!" Maybe after a few months the "wok is seasoned," so my hubby likes to say. The salmon ball is a must, kinda messy when you break into it, but who cares... it's like a gigantic sushi and I love sushi. We ordered the sweet crunch and garlic soy Korean Fried Chicken and my kids loved it. It was a shock cause my son doesn't care for Korean food, so to see him eat that up was a relief for me. He jokingly said, KFC really should look into making Korean Fried Chicken, it's the bomb and I agree. The only drawback was the Takoyaki which the middle was a little too mushy than ones I have devoured in the past, but the taste was good. I have been to other Bonchon locations and the food is always great. The fried chicken and daikon side is always our go-to. The experience at this location was lacking compared to our other experiences. We came with friends and ordered various dishes (chicken, bulgogi, fried rice, etc). Everything came fairly quickly (10-15min), except for our chicken. At around 20/25min our chicken still did not come and our friends were finishing their food. When I asked about it, they stated that they were backed up and that there was still a ticket ahead of us. After about another 5 min we got our food, but apparently they ran out of rice and our friends already had finished. I understand things happen, but proactive communication and empathy would have at least kept us in the loop. read more

I was so excited to have a KFC place close by. However, both times (once there and once take out) we've had it, it is just okay and I was a bit disappointed. The japchae was good! Lol. We love this fried chicken so much but the size/ portions of the chicken vary a great deal. Sometimes they are huge and other times on the small size. Husband gets the spicy drumsticks and I get the soy garlic chicken tenders.( they are not really tenders but pieces of chicken breast. We will keep coming back but would love some consistency. read more

Freaking incredible! First time trying this place, today. Curbside pickup was on time. the gal that dropped off the food was nice and pleasant. I'm sitting in the in n out drive thru to get food for my son...and I couldn't resist. Took a bite of their seasoned fries. I kind love that they just threw it in one of those brown paper bags, and you can see the oil stains... I dunno...rustic??? But they were soooo good! The drive thru line is hella long... okay might as well grab some spicy wings and drum combo. Omfg... this place is crazy good. So flavorful. The crunch and the sauce...and the tender meat inside that isn't lacking seasoning once you get past the outside. I even ate the kimchi with my fingers, cause why not!?! Damn, first time ever I enjoyed being in line at a drive thru, cause I had my Bonchon with me!!! Gotta wipe my hands, I'm up to order... can't wait to break into the rest of my order at home!!! Wings were good, the batter not coated too heavily, sauced nicely, not too hot, not too much. The small cubes of pickled daikon that come with are a nice contrast and serve to cleanse the palate. Fried chicken is not a food I usually seek out, but my roommate brought home some spicy wings from Bonchon a few weeks ago and OMG I was instantly addicted. Ten stars for the wings themselves - they are perfectly crispy, not at all greasy, and easily double the size of wings that you would get an any other place. We ordered the large combo platter for our party of four which also came with the biggest drummies I've ever seen (seriously where do you guys find these chickens?!) and ended up taking half of them home. FYI they're perfect after 4 minutes in the air fryer at 350. We also had the pork belly buns, bibimbap, the japchae and the Korean tacos, which were only okay. You're really coming here for the chicken. The servers here are always smiling and super helpful, and I love that they give each person their own little cute waste basket for the bones. A little warning though that the hot and spicy wings definitely have a kick to them, not for the faint of heart. They also have tower station available, which is one of my favorite IPAs. I try not to make a habit to splurge on fried food too often, but Bonchon is definitely a contender for when you're ready to indulge. read more

I don't mind a bit of a kick but this was over the top for me personally, ( but to each their own). And the main dish sides are ridiculously small! Ordered the 12pc wings half and half. They were very crispy and delicious. We also ordered the spicy chicken tacos and they were a hit. My son (20 mths) usually opts for fries over anything else however he only ate 2 fries and devoured the boneless wings (plain). They don't have a kids meal so I ordered half plain and half spicy for me to take to go. We will definitely make this place a part of our monthly dinner outing. read more

The bulgogi is mediocre. It is flavorful but such a light seasoning. Its definitely not salty. I have come by twice. I always usually order to go because it is usually packed and there is no place to sit. The Korean fried chicken is perfection. Its fried to perfect crispness and seasoned well. It's so good!!! I would have given them a 4 star but the guy who works at the counter lacks swiftness and customer service. There were several to go orders. They were ready but he did not let me know my order was up. I had to go ask him since 20 minutes had passed by. I asked if my to go order was ready. He was like here you go. Went to try this place on Valentines Day. Not super busy when we got there, but the place got super packed once we ordered about 15 mins after arriving. Food was decent, they offered a different style of food. Chicken katsu was a bit over cooked and I got the seafood Udon noodles. The noodles were nothing special and the seafood was fairly tiny pieces of shrimp, scallops, and squid. We had bulgogi tacos that were pretty good. Nonetheless we may be back or may not. read more

Wow! Total ripoff. 12 boneless (literally popcorn chicken) and 6 potstickers for $25. To go. Did not include a drink or dipping sauces. The chicken pieces were literally the size of a nickel and about 1/2" thick. The potstickers were frozen. My buddies were still cold inside. Korean fried chicken is an essential part of my happiness. Everyone seems to loveeee bonchon so we had to stop in. We called for a pick up order, the man on the phone was very nice and told us the food would be ready in only 20 minutes. Once we got gone with the food, I was so excited to rip open the box. Everything smelled amazing. We ordered a medium boneless wing with half soy garlic and half spicy. I was kinda disappointed with the quality of the boneless chicken. It wasn't very crispy and just seemed it came out of a frozen bag and was put in the fryer. Most Korean fried chicken I've had is very crispy, not cut into uniform sized chicken nuggets and drenched in sauce. My chicken was more on the dry side with the sauce which was disappointing because both sauces had a nice flavor. We also got the bacon kimchi fried rice. This was surprisingly delicious and a very large serving. Although the boneless chicken just didn't cut it for me, I would be willing to try the bone in wings since the sauce was so good. read more

Had 3 dishes of varying degrees of quality. Here we go; Garlic Soy Wings - Got the eight piece wings at lunch with white rice. The big winner. Nice large pieces were perfectly crisp, with tender juicy meat, and a nice sweet/savory balance. Further, the white rice was done perfectly, pillowy steamed rice with just the right amount of stickiness. This lunch special @ $9.95 was a very good value. Fried Rice with Bulgogi - A very tasty dish. The bulgogi pieces were tender, there was a fair portion of them in the rice, and they added a punch of flavor to the rice. The rice was cooked properly and the egg and peppers in the rice were in perfect proportion. It was a nice value on the lunch specials for $9.95. My only criticism is I think they could have had a few less onions and cooked them a little more thoroughly to balance the dish even further. Had these been the only two dishes we ordered, we'd be looking at a 4.5 star quality review. However we also ordered the Tteokbokki. Tteokbokki - I will start by stating if you want an excellent version of this dish, drive over to Mesa and have a spectacular version @ Drunken Tiger. Bonchon's version was disgusting. The sauce lacked any finesse of flavor other than slight after burn. They topped it with some of the worst, grocery store quality processed cheese that added off putting flavor and texture to the dish. The rice cakes were improperly cooked, a chewiness of unpleasant texture, and lacking any flavor in the dish. What makes it a 3 star review was a combination of the last dish and the way the restaurant handled it. They did the right thing by asking how the food was. I was gushing with compliments about the quality of the wings and the fried rice. However, I then informed them my opinion of the Tteokbokki. Were they apologetic and perhaps even offered to replace the dish with something else? No. The response was, "Well, some of the dishes are hit or miss." Huh?!? Where in the restaurant world is that an appropriate response? Indeed I was charged in full with nothing attempted for customer satisfaction. Adding further insult to injury, when I tried to use my credit card, I was informed systems were down, I was brought a written out bill on torn notebook paper, and they wanted me to write down all of my credit card information to charge me later. So instead of getting my 3x points, I paid in cash, and went on my way. Get the wings, get the fried rice, avoid the Tteokbokki at all costs, but beware, when they don't deliver, they are uninterested in rectifying the situation. read more
