I could drive to Hmart at Beltway 8 and get some delicious Korean BBQ. Oh and on top of that the young lady up front didn't even know their own menu. Well, at least she was so cluess that she didn't ask me to pay. Going to Freddy's instead. Only coming here because I really liked the original Bonchon in NYC. Did not care about the one in Dallas. Bonchon Katy all the way! The food was great but the service is phenomenal. Came in and automatically was greeted immediately. I sat up at the bar and Ysabel the bartender at the time whos now manager made me feel at home. The whole bar was talkative and laughing, i had a great time. Ive became a regular here. Visiting from the Bay Area, I was excited to chow down at my favorite korean fried chicken joint. The service was meh, the place is decently clean, the chicken took more then 35-40 minutes to come out. I m not sure what the issue was but people who ordered after us got their food before us. Perhaps I came on a bad night, but my overall experience was very disappointing. Hoodadak is usually our number one place to go for Korean fried chicken, but we were looking forward to something different. We ordered the medium wings (20) and did half soy garlic and half spicy, the salmon avocado ball, pork buns and seasoned fries. The salmon avocado ball was super salty, over sauced and only had a few pieces of avocado. Our server was understanding and took off the order from our bill, although her attitude wasn't great about it. The pork buns were pretty good, but the wings were the tastiest out of everything we ate. One thing I found odd was having to pay a dollar and some change for a small cup of spicy mayo, but every place is different I suppose. Overall, the service was not fun, everything aside the wings were not as good, and it was just an experience I would not want to repeat again. I think I'll stay with hoodadak from now on. read more

Though some of the reviews had me nervous for what should be a slam dunk restaurant, I decided my need for KFC overwhelmed some of the complaints. So, I tried out the place at lunch instead of dinner or weekends; for whatever reason the service at restaurants in general I find to be better at these times. I had the lunch chicken plate, my wife had the korean tacos, we split an order of fries and an appetizer of these little fried shrimp things. Everything tasted great, the service was perfectly fine, and I saw a manager filtering around, delivering food, talking to people, etc. I plan on making multiple return trips. read more

My coworkers and I ate here Tuesday for lunch. One of the salads had raw chicken in it, the orders were wrong and one order did not come out until everyone was almost done eating. We live close by and have now visited here about 8 times. Early on, the service was slow which is probably why it is sitting with a lower star score than it deserves. We've now tried about everything and the food is truly delicious - but the chicken is the true star here. I don't really eat wings at sports bars, etc. but I dream of these. The spicy wings are so good it is almost criminal. They are crispy and spicy without getting sauce all over you. We got a visit from the manager and learned the chicken is never frozen and sourced from a local farm. They don't advertise that, but they should. My family always gets the bulgogi tacos and they love them. Give me some spicy pot stickers, a plate of spicy wings, coleslaw and a beer and I am all set. This is now one of my favorite meals. Give this place a try on a weekday or during the day on a weekend as it gets packed on weekend nights. read more

I am making my way through the Best of Houston. I was on the west side of town and decided to try this restaurant. I was not disappointed. You can order fried chicken in different formats. I ordered the wings and drums combo. I also ordered half soy garlic and half spicy. The batter was very crispy and not at all greasy. The chicken was piping hot. LOVE THIS PLACE! first off the manager victor is awesome, professional a real sweetheart and just in general a down to earth cool freakn dude! The staff is very friendly, prompt, courteous and catering to the customers the one waitress esmeralda is super sweet and my favorite waitress! This place has a variety of Korean style dishes that taste great. I highly recommend the chicken, the two flavors offered really tickle the palate. I would have to say my favorite is the soy garlic sauce it has a bold sweetness that compliments the chicken and will leave you begging for more but on the other hand if you love spicy, the spicy sauce has a kick that adds the perfect amount of heat which really takes the taste of chicken to the next level. The bonchon wrap with the bulgogi is marinated in the soy garlic sauce and is hands down my favorite for lunch. The parmesan fries are mouth watering. the bulldak has a bold savory heat with a subtle sweetness that makes for a dish that really hits the spot. The chicken fried rice leaves a wonderful impression and absolutely another must try! Lastly, I have to mention the salmon avacado ball. I have never been a fan of salmon because I dont like fishy tastes but after trying this I take bsck anything bad I have ever said about salmon. This appetizer is the perfect combination of fresh seafood, cucumber, and sauces that is delicately wrapped in thin cut salmon which is cooked by a tourch flame giving a smokey finish that transforms the dish into a melt in your mouth masterpiece that is surely to satisfy a seafood craving. The bar is pretty well stocked. bartenders are personable, fun and prompt to serve a variety of refreshing fruity cocktails, wine and ice cold beer to relax and unwind at end of the day. The cocktail menu has some great options I recommend trying any of the flavored sojus, they offer a flight with 3 flavor option samples or you can get 1 shareable portion in a flask craft....the pear punch is super refreshing and my favorite cocktail as well. I really enjoy my experience here at the Bonchon in katy. the ambience is fun, family friendly and also a very fun place to chill and unload at the end of the day. I loved the Dallas location. I use to live in Dallas. Heard they open a location in Katy but did not have time to try till this weekend. It did not taste the same. Kinda dry. Let me start by saying that the food is pretty good. I've been to this location several times and normally have great service and the food is served promptly. Today that was not the case. We ordered margaritas and it took them over 25 minutes to get them out to us. I would've understood it if the restaurant had been full but I would say it was maybe 3/4 full. Then they brought out our order of drumsticks and wings. Although we had ordered them spicy they gave us the soy sauce flavored ones. When we told the waitress she said they could give us a side of spicy sauce to pour over the chicken or we could have them make us a new batch. We opted for a new batch, BIG mistake, took another 20+ minutes before we received our food, by then we weren't even hungry. It's ridiculous that it took a party of two over an hour to receive their meal. My husband was very upset and will not return. There are just to many chicken places in Katy to have to deal with such long wait times. read more

Coming from a Korean novice, I tried this place out with a coworker who spent time in Korea while enlisted in the military. He steered me toward the Bibimbap (rice and vegetable bowl) with bulgogi (sliced ribeye steak meat) topped with an egg and sweet/spicy sauce. It was great! The whole time I was sitting there, I was thinking how much my wife would love this food! Served in a large, heavy, heated ceramic bowl, your food stays warm, although I did notice some of the rice toward the bottom became scorched. The sauce, probably my favorite part, is the perfect mix of heat and sweet! The meat was barely noticeable. Too bad they don't put more of it. Just 3 or 4 very thinly sliced tiny pieces. Thankfully we went for lunch, at dinner they raise the prices by a couple dollars per dish, AND charge a couple dollars EXTRA for the scant portion of meat! Overall I enjoyed it! read more

Went back yesterday. The owner was there and he was working hard to make sure everything was flowing and that customers were happy. We knew the chicken would take awhile so we ordered some edamame and calamari. Both were very good with the edamame having a little extra flavor other than just salt and the calamari being crunchy, with a good sauce and the meat itself being very tender not rubbery. The chicken came out and was great. Crispy and the sauces flavorful. The spicy one has heat but just enough to wake up your mouth but not so much you hurt or break out in a sweat. The soy garlic was also very good and it complimented the spicy sauce well. Will go back for sure. read more

I am not going to blast them yet, since they just opened. I stopped by on my way home in heavy rain, just to take some to go food. I was informed they did not do to go yet, so I sat down to a table and then ordered to go. This made absolutely no sense to me at all. Now my order was simple, wanted to kimchi pan cake, was told no we don't have now. So I ordered chicken nuggets, pickled radish, french fries, and kimchi cole slaw. Chicken came out in about ten minutes, waited another twenty for the rest. No fries, and no pickled radish. No from wear I was sat I could look in to the kitchen, I could see the waiters rearranging wings with there bare hands, not so good! I love the huge drumsticks here. The Lunch menu is a good value but dinner can get a bit pricey for what you get. At $6.95 for an order of the specialty fries, they should at least be freshly made and have not been sitting around. The popcorn chicken was way overcooked but I guess that's what we get for ordering popcorn chicken from Bonchon. Stick with the wings and go for lunch if you do. read more
